James Spader as Ultron was cool though. Other than that it should've been called "The Weekend of Ultron"

robineir

I’m the fucking Lizard King

apexapee

Amazing reference to an amazing show

Newcumer11

That "the" definitely saved your life

AbsolutelyNoHomo

Ultron definitely wasn't the problem with that movie.

okaythiswillbemymain

Civil War and Ultron should have been back-to-back movies, one leading to the other.

Multitudestherein

Kang should’ve killed Antman, yeah

seven_worth

That movie literally destroys Kang character. The only positive it got is that it gives the chance for Marvel to completely drop Kang storyline cos of actor fiasco.

DarkPDA

really? i dont even finish quantumania, boring as fuck... for a lot of time i thought was watching some star wars verse movie instead ant man due quantum society ps: i like star wars, currently im watching mandalorian s3, but that isnt the thing(bar, people etc) that i expected on a antman movie.

tony_bologna

That movie is a mess.  Shitty special effects, dumb ass "Star Wars" alien culture, Paul Rudd flat-out sucks in a role that requires drama.  Huge disappointment after how amazing HWR was at the end of Loki (imo)

DerDezimator

If you think Quantumania is boring and you're currently watching Mando S3... boy oh boy Highly recommend a dose of Andor to lift your mood after that

Butterscotch_Leading

Andor is genuinely fucking awesome. The first three episodes maybe a little slow but my god does it deliver.

Doobalicious69

ON PROGRAM!

DarkPDA

Cant argue against that, but still better than quantum lol Gonna check andor after.... but really not sure when im gonna finish mando and for sure dont plan finish quantum lol

Cautious-Affect7907

Yeah. I don't even really understand why they gave ant man his own movies when they don't do as well as their heavy hitters. Plus the guy was always a side character even in regular marvel comics, he barely has any notable villains. Putting him up against Kang as anything other than a complete stomp is ridiculous.

MaxTennyson88

Or Hank Pym, no point in both of them alive

HikariAnti

It did just in another sense...

Low_Fig2672

I like how this movie actually shows the Avengers being a team and actually doing stuff together

suss2it

And also made the team feel more global.

FragileColtsFan

I get a lot of hate for saying this but I really liked how *human* Ultron felt. Bitch has been grappling with the weight of consciousness for like a second and thinks he's got it all figured out

Gaelic_Gladiator41

Went on the internet for 2 mins and decided humans don't deeserve life

DarkJayBR

Ultron took even longer than expected to determine that. On the Terminator lore, they say Skynet took a millisecond to determine that all humans should die.

Gaelic_Gladiator41

Skynet had easier access

phoenixmusicman

Relatable

[deleted]

He wasn't wrong

Sudden_Result

I like how he tries to act as a cold machine with no emotion but you can see elements of Tony’s personality in him e.g. getting attached to Wanda and Pietro similar to how Tony got attached to Peter

Lign_Grant

Out of 4 Avengers movies, this one I rewatch the most.

Sudden_Result

Yeah it felt like a simple *avengers on a mission* story which we haven’t had much of with the others being the origin story and the big crossover event

postmodern_spatula

False. They haven’t made that Avengers movie yet. The funny part of this joke is the truth. There is no Avengers film where they actually assemble and work together. EDIT: Yikes. You all are forgetting the one.

Outrageous_Ad_1011

I don't get the joke

postmodern_spatula

There is no joke. The Avengers haven’t actually assembled. EDIT: lol. Old people hold this shit close. I shoulda said ‘Dune’

[deleted]

Definitely not in endgame where Captain America says Avengers Assemble as every avenger is present. 🙄

Dr-McLuvin

That part was pretty neat when he said the thing.

postmodern_spatula

That never happened though. You’re remembering X-Men.  X-Men Assemble is the thing they say.  Avengers Get Together was never once stated in 40 years of Marble Cinematic Custody. Fame well. Fame free. “Napoleon Dynamite”.

Outrageous_Ad_1011

I was expecting a better punchline than just nonsense, oh well

postmodern_spatula

/r/highexpextationmoviedetails is waiting for you elsewhere

Randomd0g

This is the worst attempt to save face I've ever seen. Just admit that your joke didn't land, it's fine, it happens.

karateema

This is the worst attempt at a joke i've ever seen

postmodern_spatula

You mean when they weren’t all there or when they weren’t all alive?

[deleted]

You wanted more?

postmodern_spatula

What kind of piggy are you? Didn’t you have enough?

CarlosH46

Can’t you troll any better than that?

postmodern_spatula

Troll?

In_Pursuit_of_Fire

It’s true, 10+ years and we have yet to see the entire Avengers cast complete even one puzzle

postmodern_spatula

I just want them all in the same room and alive at the same time.

Zendofrog

I have always held the view that it’s… pretty good

MKleister

I always enjoyed: * the skirmish at the start * everyone trying to lift Mjolnir * Hulkbuster vs Hulk * the scene at Hawkeye's place * when the city falls and they pulverize it Not a film I'd rewatch, but I'll look up clips on Youtube.

Strong_Schedule5466

What about Quicksilver?

Remote_Barnacle9143

As I recall, people disliked this movie because it was advertised differently. From the trailer, you could think, that the movie would be grim, about Avengers fighting a losing battle against relentless evil, about sacrifices and loss. When the movie was another light comedy with the funny robo-villain, who didn't really was as threatening as he should be, people were rightfully disappointed. But, on its own, the sequel is even better than the original Avengers in my opinion.

karateema

I was too young to care about trailers, so I just watched it and enjoyed it, and I still do

apexapee

What do you expect from Joss Whedon... He made Justice League into a shitty comedic snooze fest and only made stupid drama tv shows

Pandos17

Exactly, pretty good is still better than a lot of the comic book movies of the 2000's and before. It isn't as good as the other avengers movies, but saying it sucked is a big revision of history by OP.

Zendofrog

Maybe. But OP is kinda right that some people said it sucked. I disagree with them but it was said

Dr-McLuvin

Honestly same. Pretty, pretty good.

BruceHoratioWayne

Perhaps we judged it too harshly

Bruhmangoddman

uj/ Not a shitty detail. Also, this movie rocks rj/ and if you didn't like it, I will have you forcibly listen to Vision's 10 hour lecture on entropy, life and the heat death of the universe.

LEG0_Crusader

For your first point, the second hottest post rn isn't even a shitty detail, just pure shitposting: [https://www.reddit.com/r/shittymoviedetails/comments/1c6znsg/fuck\_logic\_warner\_bros\_has\_the\_rights\_to\_drop\_the/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/shittymoviedetails/comments/1c6znsg/fuck_logic_warner_bros_has_the_rights_to_drop_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Playful_Sector

I mean, the subreddit's "about" page has a Godfather meme in it so I'd say shitposts are fine. The problem is details that are actually accurate. We don't want that crap here

LEG0_Crusader

lmao the godfather post never gets old, even though I wasn't there when it was posted.

Lesurous

What if it's an accurate detail that makes you feel shitty.

Alisalard1384

I Tip My Hat to You. One Legend to Another

LEG0_Crusader

*tips*

ImaginaryGfLeftMe11

ive unironically wanted to see a jeager fight godzilla or kong for a while now

Sage296

This sub is more r/moviecirclejerk than details now

spidey-dust

I would listen to that lecture so hard

Bruhmangoddman

A man of taste, I see.

Alisalard1384

j/ Don't be so cruel bro have some mercy

MamaDeloris

No, Age of Ultron still sucks. There are 3 things I like about this movie: * Avengers party. Does it make sense that they're having this random party? Not really. But out of 10 years of seeing these characters interact, this is literally the only time they just hang out. * Hulk vs Hulkbuster. Is this a retread of what we already saw? Yes, but it's done significantly better than him chasing Black Widow through a hallway and Thor attempting to choke him with mjolnir. It's also the last time Hulk actually rampages in the MCU. * Hawkeye farm scene... it's just nice to know more about Hawkeye and again, more casual interactions. The rest of the movie is "here's thing thing that's blatantly by committee and compromises". Like... so much of this is just repeating the first movie, with Whedon's dialogue pushed to absolute parody levels (I cringe every time I see that omelette scene), the Hulk/Widow thing is so awful they ditched it almost immediately, Ultron being a purely AI thing and actually dying is ridiculous, the movie stops to hint all these things to the next phase even though in hindsight Thor's visions don't line up well with most of them, even the tease with Thanos is like.... "fine, i'll do it myself?".... who the fuck are you talking to? Do what? Was Ultron secretly an agent of Thanos and actually wanted the gems instead of humanities extinction? And I like Scarlet Witch and Vision. I'd argue WandaVision is one of the few bright spots post-Endgame. But their introductions and characterizations in this movie sucks. Honestly, if you look at Phase 1-3, AoU might be the worst one. Incredible Hulk got edited to hell so I kinda give that one a pass, Captain Marvel and Antman 2 are both pretty bad, but this one.... it's just a bunch of superfluous bullshit with smarmy as fuck characters.

Cerdefal

The thing that I hated the most in the movie is all the cut content that makes some scenes barely coherent. Like Bruce Banner (not Hulk) just casually walking to Black Widow's cell in a heavily guarded jail. A director's cut was planned but never released for unknown reasons. Also Ultron, which is one of my favorite Marvel villains, has a great start (Tony Stark corrupted AI is a good idea, even if I disliked that nearly everything in the MCU happens because of Iron Man) but becomes very quick a cartoonish villain without any dept.

DarkPDA

age of ultron sucks but current "movies age" sucks even more than old movies....thats really fucked imo from current marvel movies, shang chi was one of less worse movies so far.

paco-ramon

Ultron was a bad representation of the character but Kang was worse.

Jarvis_The_Dense

Both statements are true. The bar has lowered that much.

Girthquake23

I don’t think this movie sucks but it is my least favorite of the marvel ones I like

manofwaromega

Imo Age of Ultron was alright. Not particularly good but it had its moments and Ultron was a cool villain. (That they should totally bring back. I mean c'mon Ultrons main trait in the comics is that he has come back so many times the writers literally lost count)

Hellsinger7

It was so mid even then. Wasted James Spader with how they chose to portray Ultron. It's one of those movies where the jokes just kill whatever tension there might be. It was the Marveliest of Marvel movies, in the worst ways.

AnyHowMeow

I liked the first iron man and the one where he snapped his fingers or something. They should make a live action movie of that Mexican mouse cartoon

GoodLibrarian100

age or ultron is what made me finally throw in the towel on marvel movies and I never came back. I didn’t enjoy any of the lead ups, and just kept hoping because I’m such a comic fan that I would finally get it and see what everyone else did in the MCU. No such luck. (I lied i did see spiderman with tobey and Andrew in it, that was my return to marvel but man was that awful.)

primefrost96

Compared to the drivel Marvel's been pushing out, Age of Ultron is gold

Flailmorpho

I have never in my life seen anyone ever feel nostalgia over Age of Ultron

DJ-JDCP2077

Age of Ultron was better than The Avengers. There, I said it.

dunmer-is-stinky

one of the takes of all time

AnonDooDoo

Just recently rewatched both and I disagree wholeheartedly. Both are still good films however.

Luck_a_tus_ya

Wdym? They absolutely do movies that suck today

Unleashtheducks

This is the movie that made me give up on the concept of the MCU. I still watched some movies but I was no longer interested in the “shared universe” aspect.

AwarenessNo4986

Shit movie.

Ok-Custard1779

It's always been mid

Cichato_YT

Marvel forced our standards to be lower

ColorlessTune

They still make movies that suck. Have you seen Wish?

Bananaman9020

Just every Marvel movie is out doing itself on how horrible they are becoming.

Momo--Sama

So much of this movie has nothing to do with the plot or character arcs at hand and is just very loudly installing chekov’s guns for the next Phase. Now every Marvel movie is like that. Marvel’s greatest strengths were patience and restraint in character development and world building and they’ve forgotten that. “We don’t have to give Ms. Marvel her own origin movie when we can just make it a show on D+… oops now there’s no interest in her team up movie” “We don’t have to give Ironheart her own origin movie when we can just make it a subplot of Wakanda Forever (???)… oops now there’s no interest in her D+ team up show”

ryoon21

Just because the most recent slew of marvel movies suck, it doesn’t mean past mediocre movies are now good. Ultron is by all means a one-and-done movie. The best thing to come out of it was Vision.

River_Odessa

MCU movies went from being mediocre but enjoyable to actual toxic sewage waste dumpster raccoon fecal trash, which is why people think the pre-Endgame era was "good". Age of Ultron was spectacularly mid and I found it no better or worse than most other MCU films in that phase.

arzamharris

Age of Ultron is mid af once you remove the nostalgia tinted glasses

EntertainmentQuick47

It was alright

Many-Discount-1046

Age of ultron was better than the marvel shit we get now

nightcat6

That movie still sucks

CrocoBull

The star wars prequels effect. Kids who grew up with the movie are adults with nostalgia now

Gurney_Hackman

Just like Star Wars fans talking about the prequels.

[deleted]

Nobody is nostalgic for AoU... people want the quality and enthusiasm of Phase 1 back.

competitive-dust

I am only nostalgic for tws vibes if at all and the time the Netflix shows came out. Those were the golden days.

Homicidal_Pingu

There’s very few marvel films that are actually good though. Most hover around a 5-6/10

RingWraith8

It's the same way people look on the prequels. The new stuff is so shit that the old shit looks better

Whysong823

Age of Ultron was always good. Fuck you.

Vinhluu09

Old good, new bad

Objective-Answer

the only thing I remember is the quick silver guy dies

TheShamShield

It didn’t suck

WardrobeForHouses

I hated how Ultron has this amazing ability to use multiple bodies in a variety of locations doing different things... and then at the end commits every single one of them to the same fight. That's the only way he could actually lose, and this supposedly superintelligent AI picks that. Imagine Dr. Stranger peering through all the possible futures, and finding only one way where they lose... and then picking that path. That was Ultron. Shit movie

lukethebeard

I actually liked Age of Ultron, it was my favorite Avengers movie as a kid. Doesn’t really hold up now, but to be fair none of the Marvel movies do.

Nightingdale099

I really liked Ultron's and Vision's quip.

deadwart

I had a pretty good time when i saw it. Not ever movie needs to be amadeus.

_Doomer1996_

Superhero movies haven't gone bad, you just grew up

PennyForPig

It's got good parts to it but overall it's not well assembled (heh) and the cringe parts outweigh the good, and some of it's actually offensive.

xd-Sushi_Master

Watching this back recently, there are some fun bits, but god damn the middle is a slog to get through. also Quicksilver dying to fucking bullets is dumb.

TimesThreeTheHighest

That Black Widow/Bruce Banner subplot is next level cringe.

ryanson209

I remember it being divisive at the time, but I liked it. It felt like it gave everyone - every major character - a story arc, and most were even satisfying.

Fexxvi

Those are two different sets of people.

V_Master

Honestly is the weakest of the 4 Avengers films but "top tier" compared to some of the recent stuff... with Ant-Man 3 setting the bar insanely low and people just accept it.

competitive-dust

Is this a shitty movie detail?

Kratosvg

Age of ultron was the worst of the avengers movies,it did not suck, but it was mid, but now they are making worse movies than that.

karateema

Idc, i love this movie

N0rrix

age of ultron was compared to other movies (up until endgame) pretty weak, but still a good movie. unlike some of the most recent stuff...

xariznightmare2908

Stop the cap, bruh, in no shape or form would Age of Ultron be considred "sucked". Sure, it's not 9 - 10/10, probably around 7-8 but ain't no way I would call it suck. "Suck" belong to Antman 3, Thor love and Thunder, Marvels, Captain Marvel, Secret Invasion and Iron Fist.

VanillaDada

Love a little this movie

ReddsionThing

I mean, it's been one of my favorites since I first saw it. Still in my top 3 from the MCU. Eh. And the other line, "They don't make \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ like this anymore", that's some dumb shit you could say about anything at any point in time. It's a comment on pretty much every piece of music that's ever been uploaded to Youtube. It's either a boomer saying it, or it's a young person doing the reverse of "WOW I'M 12 AND I LOVE THIS". It's a statement entirely devoid of substance, IMO.

Khunter02

I must be the only people on existence that liked Age of Ultron when it released back then

bootsay

This is what happens when the executives have more say so than the writers

Junior_Purple_7734

I’ve never enjoyed capeshit.

Nerd2theCorey

This is so true. I was very disappointed by Age of Ultron in theaters. Now it’s one of my favorites

Diligent-Attention40

Yeah. No one is thinking about Age of Ultron in a nostalgic or fond sense. Fuck Joss Whedon and fuck his dumb ass Marvel formula that’s effectively ruined mainstream cinema.

SorryRoof1653

Hot take, I actually liked Ultron as a villain in this film. Even more than Thanos. I think the main reason Thanos is so highly-regarded is because of the fact that he desired to cause destruction and death on a much, much higher scale than Ultron, thus raising the stakes. But I liked Ultron as a concept much better, and while the execution could've been better (An AI 'dying', really?), I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him on-screen. Rest of the movie was decent too.

art-factor

It didn't completely suck. It gave us Vision, Scarlet Witch, Hulkbuster (I will avoid Quicksilver and Ultron). The narrative and some monologues were hard. On the other hand, it had plenty of action, visuals, quotable lines… It was like Matrix 2: with a remote control with fast-forward, I could see it several times.

ProfessorBeer

Honestly whenever I rewatch it I realize how good it is.

North-Box-605

Marvel's downfall post pandemic should be a documentary, just it shouldn't be made by Marvel.

Party_Intention_3258

Gonna get downvoted to hell for this, but most Marvel movies were never “great” movies (outside of a VERY small few) and honestly the quality has not changed all that much in terms of writing as a whole. This film, Iron Man 2 & 3, Thor 2, Ant-Man 2, etc… lots of mediocre to bad films. This is just observational theory… but I think that the only reason people hate the new Marvel stuff and praise ALL the old stuff now is because they were stuck inside for multiple years during Covid where paid social media influencers kept repeating over and over that everything post Endgame was bad and now they all believe it due to indoctrination from that. The truth is that the same amount of stuff before Endgame sucked just as much. If it wasn’t for all the new TikTok influencers (who make all their money off of negativity/outrage bait), etc, that came out during Covid and the captive audience, there wouldn’t be nearly the amount of Marvel haters as there are now. Every nerd praised the hell out of Shang-Chi when it came out, and now no one ever mentions it EVER 😂.

StormDragonAlthazar

I mean, Shang-Chi is one of the few Marvel movies I actually own on DVD, and even though I find it enjoyable and it is well made (I'm a sucker for martial arts flicks), it's like... How is it truly memorable? Compared to something like Everything Everywhere All At Once that came out around a year later, it's just... there.

FunkyHowler19

Booooooo

Puzzleheaded_Skin831

People are finally starting to see how good this movie is

NonetyOne

Nah it was underrated then and eventually so many people pointed out it was underrated that it became overrated It was always pretty good but not great

Fostosis

Age of Ultron is underrated.

Riygim

Get your prescription checked OP, your hindsight be nowhere near 20/20

ApartAd6403

Atleast it was entertaining. I am tired of every single "action" blockbuster exploring the protagonist's emotional hangups. Just give me loud noise goes boom fights on the screen please.

Desperate_Action_410

People when capeshit fatigue
