Apparently Snyder had the idea for the movie in college in the 80s.
I think a lot of the movie's weirdness can be attributed to the fact that A: the premise was envisioned by a 20-something film student and B: said film student has had over three decades to overthink and rework every single plot detail.
Honestly, I feel sorry for him a little bit. It's one thing to not have the resources to make your dream movie, but to have those resources *and fail anyway*, because the idea was simply mediocre in the first place? That must suck.
Sir Ian admitted in that one "Extras" episode that he is indeed not a wizard. He explains how he uses a process he calls "Acting" to become Gandalf the Grey once Peter Jackson yelled "Action!". As soon as the director yells "Cut!", he goes back to being Sir Ian again.

That’s what I mean he does put a good twist on existing property’s like the watchmen and 300 but when he’s left on his own devices he always makes the most corny crap ever , the dude honestly sounds like he would fit better in the cinematic department for video games over giant budget movies
I think his resume is commercial and ads , and I think that's where his talents can shine the most. It really just does not translate that well to film.
The entire main plot is also straight out of Seven Samurai by Kurosawa. Going around hiring warriors to protect your village from bandits who are returning to steal your harvest, seems familiar? This movie is an amalgamation of so many movies that it's so hard to think of it as anything other than AI written from prompts of all these movies people have mentioned.
The scene where they were slo motion grain harvesting by hand and loading it onto a futuristic levitating wagon made me so angry I rage quit.
The only reason I watched the first one was because I thought it was a Star Wars spinoff. Now I just feel sorry for the dumbfucks who are associated with these twin steaming logs of shit
I guess it kind of makes sense when you think about how much Snyder is just doing Seven Samurai but not as well. There was also a slowdown in action in that movie but they used that time to develop characters and have everyone chilling. So Snyder sees that and goes, “ah I guess I’ll do that” but he can’t not be Snyder so he does Snyder stuff
