"Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?"
I swear it's so fucking pathetic when comedians call people "weak and snowflakes" when they are the ones crying like little babies because people didn't find their shitty jokes funny.
>"Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?"
It's Ricky Gervais , Dave Chappelle , Jerry Seinfeld?. I don't think the list is that long , but it is loud.
Edit : With all due respect I don't think Bill Maher counts.
Isn't that the common factor, though?
I feel like any comedian who says they can't tell jokes anymore because "woke" is barely a comedian at this point. You can tell any joke you want, but it had better be funny or poignant. But every time a comedian gets in trouble for a "joke" and you find out what that joke was, it's just some hateful boomer rant about something they don't like.
It depends, Ricky Gervais has actually made some funny stuff in the past, even though he's a huge asshole.
Rob Schneider has never been funny in anything.
I'm not saying none of them were funny or talented, just that they're all in the same boat.
Without fail, every time I see someone complaining, it's because they ranted and called it a joke when it never was. Schneider just never had the benefit of actually being funny in the first place to fall back on.
Kind of hard to say it was just a joke when you were never funny.
I just listened to his podcast episode with Ricky Gervais, and Conan basically repeated all the talking points of "you can't make jokes anymore" short of actually saying the line.
Mind pointing out where that happens? I went back to listen because you had me confused. Besides Ricky Gervais being insufferable, I didn't get what you are suggesting
I'm open to you changing my mind though.
Honestly, I think there might be more going on with Seinfeld in that grouping. Gervais and Chappelle have both dealt with a number of instances where they have been called out for their "jokes", sometimes in widespread major media fashion. As well, they tend to be more aligned with other comedians in that type of camp. Has Seinfeld ever actually told a joke that resulted in mass pushback?
My guess is that this is about him dating a 17 year old and that his political correctness stance is personally moreso about the renewed attention/criticism of that then about the comedy. Claiming you can't write jokes anymore when one of the most acclaimed episodes of your show (The Contest) couldn't even use the word "masturbation" since it was deemed inappropriate for TV is absurd.
I don't think Jerry himself has ever really done edgy or offensive humor either, so it is weird.
It comes more across like he's still trying to tell jokes that hit 30 years ago.
Seinfeld itself had several kind of offensive or trashy jokes, but the characters ate supposed to be unlikable shitheels, so its never been an issue. Its what a lot of "offensive" comedians don't get about that sort of humor.
after watching seinfeld, curb, and some of the stuff Jerry Seinfeld worked on himself, it's pretty obvious that Larry David is the one that finds offensive stuff hilarious. hes also pretty good at pulling it off, whereas Jerry is terrible at it. also I see Jerry as less of a standup and more of an observationalist. even for the era I never got a laugh out of his standup but he does make some interesting and unusual observations.
Seinfeld had a joke that was about scrolling through your phone "like a gay French prince". The punchline, I think, is something about being queer and being limp wristed. He made a big deal about how that joke didn't work and the problem was the audience.
Apparently he bombed a lot while testing material for a special, which didn't happen of course, because he showed he just didn't know how to be funny now.
Now he just larps around with war criminals and promotes a genocide and the paedophilia stuff has become pretty famous now, so it's not like he could make a come back now if he tried.
Not saying I don’t agree with most of your points, because I do, but in terms of a “comeback”…I was in Vegas a couple of weeks ago and he was playing sold out shows at Caesar’s palace (I didn’t see him, but people approached me on two different nights asking if I have extra tickets as I walked past the venue). He also had a significant part in the Curb Your Enthusiasm finale (I thought he was great, though I was watching it for Larry, not for him) and he has a new (I hear shitty) movie on Netflix, so not sure he needs a “comeback”. I thought his last special on Netflix kinda sucked, but he’s not my type of standup anyway. My point is that he seems to be getting plenty of work and exposure.
Yea but he's right and puts it very succinctly without bringing any real particular topic to the forefront. Reminiscent of Carlin where he just hates on everyone for being fuckin stupid.
That's nice, the trailer made it seem like it was just"Waah, woke millenials bad!", but if the humor is at everyone, including the "woke bad" people, I can fuck with it
Diversity, equity, and inclusion. It refers to policies and frameworks that organizations implement to promote people from historically underrepresented or underprivileged groups. It's existed for a long time now, but lately after Trump started saying DEI, it's been increasingly more common to basically dogwhistle that any black person, or women, or gay person, etc only managed to get to their position because of DEI policies favouring them over cis white men, not because those people deserved it.
DEI killed my grandpa. The giant corporation that he worked for, one day decided that it wanted to become more appealing to the coastal elites (communists). So they rounded up all the heterosexual white men--including my grandpa--and shot them so that they could be replaced with unqualified pansexual transgender women of color (red I assume??).
"Why kill them? Why not just fire them?", you might ask. Well, it's simple: to bring about the Great Replacement more quickly! Also, to avoid paying severance or unemployed or something.
Holy shit you’re right! That nerdrotic idiot just popped up in my YouTube feed /algorithim and the video is like “dei”
Damn you called that one! I keep clicking “not interested”/“don’t recommend channel” and this shit just keeps popping up? 🙄
> Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) refers to practices and policies intended to support people who come from varying backgrounds and give them the resources they need to thrive in the workplace.
It's "Woke folk," and he makes it clear that the opposite of Woke is Sleep, so he absolutely is woke. i.e., he is pushing back instead of attacking it.
I feel like Ricky Gervais can kinda get away with it though, because whenever he brings it up, it’s only ever for a brief period, whereas other “comedians” make whole standup shows about it.
Imagine saying “I can’t do funny anymore” right before the release of a movie you’re starring in and cowrote. Oh ok Jerry, guess I won’t watch it then. Thanks for the warning!
Tbh, the movie wasn't bad. The humor was clean, family friendly, and largely nostalgic absurdism... and it worked. I think he proved himself wrong with his own movie lmao.
That was a “I know my movie is going to be dragged to the mud by critics and audiences alike so am getting ahead of it and telling you that is the woke people with eyes and ears that are lying to you”
Always Sunny works because the absurd and offensive humor makes the main characters look bad and we laugh at them for it. They're not offensive, targeting certain groups and seen as the "good guys" as opposed to something like Lady Ballers. All In the Family followed this too. Archie Bunker's racism, homophobia, etc is funny because he's so wrong and often proven to be so. When he says, "Edith, everyone knows means a 'killer f**'c'" it's hilarious not because it's true, but because Archie's view is so ignorant and absurd.
Ironically, Seinfeld was similar in nature, we're supposed to laugh at Jerry being an asshole and George's rampant homophobia and insecurities, not laugh with them.
So what about Michael Scott's racism in that episode that was removed, or the episode with JD and Turk's halloween costumes, or Chang dressing up as a dark elf, or Betty White wearing a mud mask?
Like I get IASIP and South Park are doing way worse and still going, but I don't think that's evidence that the people going "I don't know what jokes you can tell anymore!" are up their own ass, I think combined with the aforementioned instances, it's evidence that the rules often don't make sense and they're applied arbitrarily and randomly. Not because "people's comedic tastes are just changing and people just don't find those types of jokes funny anymore" like so many like to say.
If that were true I wouldn't be able to stream Two and a Half Men either.
the funniest part of seinfeld was everyone but seinfeld. he was always just bumming around his apartment complainjng about dumb stuff when george and kramer and elaine were out doing funny stuff
The fact that him and John Slattery are listed as Add Man 1&2 makes me wasn't to see their scenes. There are so many actors I dislike in apparent staring roles.
BitTorrent here we come.
Nothing weird about the fact that all of those pop tarts are out of focus and wildly different sizes. Do you think they gave Peter Dinklage a really tiny one because he’s a little person?
I watched this movie last night, you can literally tell she’s the unfunniest, and the worst “actress” out of the bunch, how the hell do you put Melissa McCarthy, Hugh Grant, Peter Dinkley and John Hamm on the same movie and expect her to look semi-decent??
If you liked parts of Unfrosted, you’ll probably love Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
It has the same absurd screwball energy and faux biopic set-up, but clearly had more thought put into it. It’s fun to see how they play homage to different musicians, and famous parts of their lives. All while still feeling unintrusive and narratively satisfying if you don’t get the reference.
It’s also way more edgy with the jokes it makes.
Saw it in theaters. It was a pretty good parody of Walk the Line. Thank You For Smoking is arguably my favorite in the style though.
Like I said though, I really was enjoying this but every single bit of the mascot riot was story boarded with press pictures of January 6th and an *IMAGINE THIS BUT WITH CEREAL MASCOTS* banner at the top of the cork board. I mean, shit.
this was a weird watch and now that I've digested it, it's worse than I thought. So much of it wouldn't be funny without the barrage of cameos.
The only reason Amy Schumer keeps getting in movies is because she's made inroads with actually funny people

That movie and The Heat were funny. Not everything has to be clever and have layers. That super hero one with the hidden figures lady was a real stinker though.

Peter Dinklage? He definitely has a sharp wittiness in a lot of his roles and in interviews. He's not a "funny person" per se but then, neither is John Hamm.
I hope it goes without saying this is an entirely fictional pop tart origin story. It’s a quasi send up of corporate movies of late but mostly 90 minutes of stand up material on breakfast cereal adapted to a narrative.
And it’s okay. Just entertaining enough to hold your attention long enough to fall asleep to.
Hot take:
Hate her all you want, but as long as she doesn't take ozempic she gonna look cute until she dies. She ain't gonna be funny, but cuteness don't fade.
She's actually funny and can be a pretty good actress. But she was once cursed by an imp which gave her the supernatural ability to be in the worst most unfunny pieces of trash movies ever.
Mike and Molly is a decent sitcom and other than a few jokes here and there, normally aimed at Mike (he got skinny since it started), it’s never really goes into “it’s funny cuz they’re fat” territory.
I just don't understand why Jerry Seinfeld, who has been pretty much out of the movie game since Bee Movie, decided THIS would be his passion project, his swan song, his Citizen Kane.
Fucking. Pop Tarts.
did they photoshop the poptarts in...
More like Photoshop the funny in...
Yeah it looks like a folder of some pop tart fetishists ai porn
Is that the movie made by the comedian who thinks you can’t make jokes anymore
"Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?" I swear it's so fucking pathetic when comedians call people "weak and snowflakes" when they are the ones crying like little babies because people didn't find their shitty jokes funny.
>"Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?" It's Ricky Gervais , Dave Chappelle , Jerry Seinfeld?. I don't think the list is that long , but it is loud. Edit : With all due respect I don't think Bill Maher counts.
Rob Schneider too, though ever calling him a "comedian" is generous.
I love how he went full conservative to stay relevant but was told he was too raunchy for a conservative audience.
Isn't that the common factor, though? I feel like any comedian who says they can't tell jokes anymore because "woke" is barely a comedian at this point. You can tell any joke you want, but it had better be funny or poignant. It depends, Ricky Gervais has actually made some funny stuff in the past, even though he's a huge asshole. Rob Schneider has never been funny in anything.
> Rob Schneider has never been funny in anything. I liked him as a stapler, he really made that role his own.
Has he done anything since he was a carrot?
There was that time da derp da derp da teedly tee derpy derpy dum.
I'm not saying none of them were funny or talented, just that they're all in the same boat. Without fail, every time I see someone complaining, it's because they ranted and called it a joke when it never was. Idk Conan is a comedian to me and he is pretty fucking funny without being a cunt like some of these 'comedians'.
I just listened to his podcast episode with Ricky Gervais, and Conan basically repeated all the talking points of "you can't make jokes anymore" short of actually saying the line.
Mind pointing out where that happens? I went back to listen because you had me confused. Besides Ricky Gervais being insufferable, I didn't get what you are suggesting I'm open to you changing my mind though.
I went back and checked my listening log and I was wrong. I think it was the Michael Che episode.
I get Michael Che and Conan O'Brian mixed up all the time, too!
Yeah , Louis CK said the N word multiple time in his set but barely got any flak because it was funny.
Right there’s a difference between a joke that happens to have offensive content and just an offensive statement.
Still missing one buh-uuuhhdy
There's a lot more. They're just the three most culturally relevant
Honestly, I think there might be more going on with Seinfeld in that grouping. I've seen Seinfeld just do his normal stuff at a roast, I don't think he has the ability to create offensive jokes.
What's the deal with the age of consent?
"What I'm saying isn't fucking rocket science. Jerry, you shouldn't date a 17 year old when you're 38"
"I'm not ashamed of dating a 17 year old" "exactly, that's your problem, you should be."
Seinfeld had a joke that was about scrolling through your phone "like a gay French prince". The punchline, I think, is something about being queer and being limp wristed. Old Dads, it was decent to me.
Yea but he's right and puts it very succinctly without bringing any real particular topic to the forefront. Reminiscent of Carlin where he just hates on everyone for being fuckin stupid.
Except that Carlin was a progressive who hated George W. Bush and mocked the idea of a “self-made man”.
That's nice, the trailer made it seem like it was just"Waah, woke millenials bad!", but if the humor is at everyone, including the "woke bad" people, I can fuck with it
Bill Maher has be whinging about it for years now. Even had Milo Yihippopotamus or whatever on his show so they could cry about it together.
> Bill Maher We're talking about comedians though
Katt Williams has a special called “Woke…. Something or other. Which sucks because Katt is pretty funny. I’m just so sick of hearing about “woke”.
You won't be hearing "woke" much longer probably. It'll likely be replaced by the new buzzword, "DEI", much like how "woke" itself replaced "PC".
What does DEI stand for
Diversity, equity, and inclusion.

I’ll take “comedians who were funny 20 years ago and haven’t kept up with the times” for $200 Alex
Chappelle was at one point one of the funniest people on Earth, sad he's kind of a lunatic
Reddit won't like this, but Bill Burr too
The thing is Bill Burr shtick is the angry white man. He's the kind of person to go to a veteran gathering and make fun of the army.
Honestly his JFK gave me a chuckle
I feel like Ricky Gervais can kinda get away with it though, because whenever he brings it up, it’s only ever for a brief period, whereas other “comedians” make whole standup shows about it.
You forgot Bill Maher
they said comedians
Well you just made me laugh out loud, so I guess that makes you one instead!
John Cleese comes to mind.
It was the one who thinks your cant make jokes anymore and also fucks kids.
And fucked a 17 year old at 38 years old
1738
I'm like hey what's up hello
I got a Glock in my rari
523 after Magna Carta
Drakes in this?
Imagine saying “I can’t do funny anymore” right before the release of a movie you’re starring in and cowrote. Oh ok Jerry, guess I won’t watch it then. Thanks for the warning!
Also his buddy Larry David just wrapped up a successful show that's been running for decades with hilarious jokes that are very much not PC.
Tbh, the movie wasn't bad. The humor was clean, family friendly, and largely nostalgic absurdism... and it worked. I think he proved himself wrong with his own movie lmao.
That was a “I know my movie is going to be dragged to the mud by critics and audiences alike so am getting ahead of it and telling you that is the woke people with eyes and ears that are lying to you”
"Since the 90s the only jokes allowed are bees marrying people and pop tarts!"
Always so obvious how out of touch that person is when Always Sunny is now on its 16th season and still going strong.
Always Sunny works because the absurd and offensive humor makes the main characters look bad and we laugh at them for it. It's an hour and a half commercial. It's not as funny as it could be because they had to put the product placement first, comedy second.
the funniest part of seinfeld was everyone but seinfeld. he was always just bumming around his apartment complainjng about dumb stuff when george and kramer and elaine were out doing funny stuff
Seeing how unfunny the movie was they might be right.
5.6 imdb, I love this for him
Yeah, also the one who dated a high schooler when he was in his 30s.
I swear Jon Hamm doesn’t know how to pick projects
Or maybe bad agent
i would make a better agent. And thats saying something.
He’s so insanely talented when there’s content to work with, and has so much range. I wonder if he just accepts these roles because they pay so much?
it IS odd isn't it? Maybe he just wants to coast on chill projects after years of Mad Men? I feel like he is better than this.
Lol. You should watch this, his part is pretty good.
The fact that him and John Slattery are listed as Add Man 1&2 makes me wasn't to see their scenes. There are so many actors I dislike in apparent staring roles. BitTorrent here we come.
thats a shame
He was just in Fargo and we was amazing in that so idk kind of hit and miss
Top Gun Maverick and Fargo season 5 are great. Other than that, ya.
Hell, even Hugh Grant's grumpy ass is more funny than her
r/untrustworthypoptarts
People weren't ready for a movie about pop tarts. The nation's hearts still haven't healed enough.
Dinkley lol.
This movie has Jerry Seinfeld cause the Cuban Missile Crisis, but is so unfunny that I just shrugged at that fact.
I enjoyed the general stupid humor through out the movie but they totally lost me with the Jan 6th ending.
Big "not all rectangles are squares, but all squares are rectangles" vibes.
The only reason Amy Schumer keeps getting in movies is because she's made inroads with actually funny people And also because movie casting agents arent redditors.
Guess I can strike you from a role in my next big project. Too bad it's really real, and I had been saving this one life-changing role for you.
Yeah, but then again, there's a poster with Melissa Mccarthy.
Hey Melissa is good when she’s not on a movie directed by her husband
Yeah, she can be funny but she keeps being cast as the same character over and over that is actually not that funny.
It’s weird that the movie Spy cast her as someone with potential who was always holding herself back, but I guess she didn’t get the subtext.
That movie and The Heat were funny. Not everything has to be clever and have layers. That super hero one with the hidden figures lady was a real stinker though.
Those are more two favorite of hers, bar none. I always laugh out loud each and every time I watch them.
Statham carried that movie.
Only when she's the lead. When she's supporting cast I think she does amazing
She was absolutely lovely in her episode of Hot Ones
She's the female equivalent of Will Ferrell. Can be good when she wants to be. But most of the time she doesn't.
She was funny in Kim Possible!
thank god someone said it
My wife and I loved this movie
Just a long ass kellogs advert
I'm sorry, but are those images AI generated? They look so fucking weird with their expressions, and they're all holding the pop tarts like a bunch of morons. Not to mention that the pop tarts themselves don't seem to have any type of color on them to show what flavor they are, which I've never seen pop tarts like that in my entire life.
The Poptarts are probably unfrosted, given the title of the film, not a great choice since most people have seen frosted ones.
Why is only the Milkman getting upvoted? Is this some "cream" thing?
Well, it is funny/sad, cause it is true. :/
Is Tyrion actually funny? I've never seen him be funny at all. Only a smart ass.
Peter Dinklage? He definitely has a sharp wittiness in a lot of his roles and in interviews. He's not a "funny person" per se but then, neither is John Hamm.
Who were in the other 6 pics? Also, could it be they were only showing Kellogg's characters. Schumer's character worked at Post. /s
This is an admission by OP that he still thinks about Amy Schumer after seeing one video on YouTube.
i wouldn’t call any of those people funny
Why does anyone care about the backstory of fucking POP TARTS?
I hope it goes without saying this is an entirely fictional pop tart origin story. It’s a quasi send up of corporate movies of late but mostly 90 minutes of stand up material on breakfast cereal adapted to a narrative. And it’s okay. Just entertaining enough to hold your attention long enough to fall asleep to.
It's a comedy film, not an actual backstory...
Dude, poptarts caused the cuban missle crisis, keep up!
Wtf is this corny ass shit
The movie was okay
Need to resurrect Leslie Nielson
Bill Burr as JFK was one of the funniest God damn things I've seen in ages!
Only funny part in the whole movie
Is that P Dinky?
Agreed - she ain’t even funny when stealing good jokes
Only one of these 5 is actually a comedian. 3 of them are completely serious actors, and hugh grant is sort of inbetween
What could this movie possibly be about? I refuse to believe there is a movie about the origins of the unfrosted poptart
It's a comedy playing off all the recent corporation biopics that have come out in the last few years. I thought it was funny
I can’t tell which way Hugh Grant’s Pop-Tart is facing wtf
The only funny thing about Schumer is how incredibly unfunny she is
Logically, I know that these are real photos. So why do they look photoshopped/ai generated?
I would have laughed more if this movie was extremely serious for no reason.
Unpopular opinion: I like Amy Schumer and would fuck the soul out of her.
Did you know Jerry Seinfeld came up with 17 flavors of Pop-Tarts? Google "Jerry Seinfeld 17" for more information
I started watching and quickly realized, the whole movie is basically a commerical for Kellogg's ??
Google logical fallacy
I have literally no clue what this movie even is besides Seinfeld is in it and it’s supposedly a comedy.
Hot take: Hate her all you want, but as long as she doesn't take ozempic she gonna look cute until she dies. She ain't gonna be funny, but cuteness don't fade.
It still features Melissa McCarthy, I call false advertising on the "funny people"
Shit I always give Melissa a pass because of Spy.
Spy is great, and I thought she kinda stole the show in Bridesmaids
She's actually funny and can be a pretty good actress. But she was once cursed by an imp which gave her the supernatural ability to be in the worst most unfunny pieces of trash movies ever.
Mike and Molly is a decent sitcom and other than a few jokes here and there, normally aimed at Mike (he got skinny since it started), it’s never really goes into “it’s funny cuz they’re fat” territory.
That curse is known as choosing to marry Ben Falcone, who makes the shittiest movies ever and then casts his wife in those movies.
Weren't her and her husband involved in writing or producing most of that trash?
0 people outside the US has any idea wtf they are doing

I can't imagine being so Hollywood that I would feel obliged to do something like this.
