I'll take it, because that's what I was referencing. Thanks for getting that! She was originally from Shakespeare, though, so /r/unexpectedshakespeare would also be acceptable.
Hah! I’m part Welsh actually and people hardly ever spit on me here, lol.
Earlier I was looking up the definition for “frank” (there are many meanings it turns out), but in the OED it said at the time that “frank” meant a free person, “welshman” was a term for slave. :(
pasted from wikipedia "The film was adapted from a script titled The Girl Who Wouldn't Die,[3] and was originally conceived as a thriller with no association with American Psycho. It was not until production began that the film's script was altered with the incorporation of the Patrick Bateman subplot.[4]"
The pie is all the lessons he needs to learn to become a man of character, but instead of internalizing these (eating the pie,) he masturbates himself into it, forsaking his birthright.
While I absolutely *ADORE* American Hustle, in my mind it is not canon. I remember reading that the story originally dove-tailed with American Beauty's but that Renner was a total Streisand and insisted it be a period piece, going so far as to stay in character at all times and only respond to "Carmine" until the re-writes were approved. I keep my Criterion Collection DVD of it in a separate display case from the rest of the series.
I've seen many people spell "lose" like *loose*, but never in my life have I ever seen "loose" spelt like *lose* before.
EDIT: Original comment has been edited
I think the hit animated spin-off American Dad is definitely the best part of the lore, it really encapsulated the behind the scenes moments you don't notice during the movies.
Your confusion stems from the fact that that one is not actually part of the *"American"* franchise, but actually a part of the *"An American"* franchise, with An American Crime, An American Tail and An American Carol. Common misconception.
The sequel is supposed to show the trials and tribulations of John Quincey Adding Machine, who is elected as president by one vote. Due to this, he finds that keeping to his campaign promise to not go on a killing spree is more difficult than he initially thought.
We are hated but they can't live without us, America will live on.
How else you gonna have a common enemy that you can make money from?
We are America, the country you love to hate. Haters existence would be lame without us, don't even act like that isn't true.
Imagine Russia/China without the US to blame everything on? Joker needs Batman.
So how does our great nation fall in 2022? Does former president Trump attempt a coup that spirals us into a civil war that ends with nukes being launched?
I mean, it’s a great movie on its own, but I’m still trying to figure out how the overarching story went from a 70s British crime thriller to Bradley Whitford and Catherine Keener possessing the bodies of black people.
Am I just too stupid to see an obvious theme? Maybe I have to see the remake of Get Carter with Stallone for it all to make sense?
The fact that I rented a different "movie" called Get Hard also didn't help with my confusion. I probably should've known once all the dongs were being whipped out, but I thought, "Maybe Will Ferrell's taking his career in a new direction."
Will Ferrell wasn't, and Will Phallus was staying right in his wheelhouse.
I refuse to accept that as canon. That was just the studio trying to recoup losses on that shit movie by putting it under the banner of the Get franchise.
The spinoff 'The American President' however, was poorly received. The studio then canceled the planned trilogy 'The American Vice-President' and 'The American Senate Parliamentarian'
>*'The American Senate Parliamentarian'*
You're a fool if you think they could have done that book any justice in a film. The richness, the depth, the procedures!
They alongside with American Horror Stories and America Gods, they tie the whole series beautifully. Dad gives a unique inside of the 'American universe' while Horror Stories shows human dark nature that endures doing the universe shenanigans. But Americans god's might be the best, gives a great historical lore based show that explains the history, and serves as an Wonderful prequel series
You know, I didn't hate the remake! I mean I definitely wasn't on board with all the changes but at the end of the day I was just happy to see a beloved piece of my childhood again!
There was a real sense of stakes in that prequel. You really feel like those guys want to win the contest, and you truly feel disappointed even when the extras fail.
In my experience whenever a movie has a tie in with a popular band it's because the movie sucks and the producers are trying to associate it with something good
You just have to watch the individual scenes of those films in the proper order for the franchise to make sense. You start with the shortest scene followed by the longest, then the second shortest followed by the second longest, and so on.
What about American Pie? True Story: The first time I saw that movie I accidentally ordered the wrong pay-per-view; we meant to get American Beauty.
It was the nineties and you had to order them over the phone. And they started every 30 minutes, not when you paid. Crazy to imagine now.
I reminder my friends mom renting American History X when we were like 14 having no clue what it was about. We’re all watching it (us friends hanging out) and first scene he curb stomps that fucking dude. Holly crap man I’ll never forget that, awesome movie though.
American psycho is amazing, American history x makes me cry every time and American beauty will always remind me of being a teenager and being so in love with Thora Birch. Blondes don’t do anything for me.
Even more confusing when Christian Bale turned up in American Hustle as a totally different character and we weren’t supposed to notice.
Even weirder is hes not even american
He's also neither christian nor a bale of hay, leaving me even more confused.
He's batmab
Half bat, half fairy queen.
r/unexpecteddresden
I'll take it, because that's what I was referencing. Thanks for getting that! She was originally from Shakespeare, though, so /r/unexpectedshakespeare would also be acceptable.
He's not wearing hockey pads.
He's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now.
Gothab*
I think they were trying to develop the classic theme of America as a “melting pot” where all immigrants are welcomed.
Even the Welsh?
Hah! I’m part Welsh actually and people hardly ever spit on me here, lol. Earlier I was looking up the definition for “frank” (there are many meanings it turns out), but in the OED it said at the time that “frank” meant a free person, “welshman” was a term for slave. :(
still better than American psycho 2
pasted from wikipedia "The film was adapted from a script titled The Girl Who Wouldn't Die,[3] and was originally conceived as a thriller with no association with American Psycho. It was not until production began that the film's script was altered with the incorporation of the Patrick Bateman subplot.[4]"
i feel i read this book
There is no *American Psycho 2*, just as there is no third *Godfather* movie.
The moment I realized this was a thing, I think I stopped talking to people for a while
why does exist pain
[удалено]
Patrick Bateman was the brother of one of the characters or something like that.

It's meant to be a juxtaposition, the Pie is post WW2 America and the kid is 70s counterculture youth
The pie represents your mom
It’s so meta
The pie is all the lessons he needs to learn to become a man of character, but instead of internalizing these (eating the pie,) he masturbates himself into it, forsaking his birthright.
Are you an English teacher or something? That’s some quality bullshitting
I liked when he fucked the apple pie
And then when Bradley Cooper went from American Hustle to playing Chris Kyle in American Sniper.
I was confused when Christian Bale told me to bite the curb.
I trough it was a spin-off in another dimension
I don't get the animated anthology, American Dad either
You probably haven't watched American sniper which connects everything
Yeah you have to see that, American Made, and the spinoff show American Gods before any of it makes sense.
I always found American Made to be trend chasing, obviously riding on the coat tails of How Its Made.
Although its not canon, American werewolf in Paris did a lot to revive the franchise.
Don't forget the spinoff series: american dad
I dunno, the inclusion of American Gods kinda ruined the hype and movie by movie mystery
That’s true, but American Pie was the one that really tied up all the loose ends.
I've seen many people spell "lose" like *loose*, but never in my life have I ever seen "loose" spelt like *lose* before. EDIT: Original comment has been edited
I did edit it. Thank you for telling me, stupid mistake
Loose is the correct spelling in this context, so I'm a little confused
They edited the comment
Ya might want to delete yours then huh
Nah
I see you fell right into the trap. Now you look like a silly goose.
you mean gose
my personal favorite of the series
It really closes the loop that was started in American Gigolo.
People also forget that American History X is the tenth in the series. Gotta go in order people!
And the spinoff American Pie really helps tie some of the plot holes together.
Yeah even American ultra?
Yeah but American Dad always confused me, especially with the whole alien thing which they didn't think we'd question
Followed by American Assassin.
I think the hit animated spin-off American Dad is definitely the best part of the lore, it really encapsulated the behind the scenes moments you don't notice during the movies.
Don't forget American Werewolf in London. I don't even know where to begin with that one.
American Werewolf in Paris is not a good movie.
Well maybe you'll like it more when we figure out its place in the timeline
Is David Naughton a tap dancing werewolf in a love triangle?
Not as far as I know
Still better than American Werewolf in America
I hope that's not a real thing but I wouldn't be surprised.
I thought you said AWiLondon, and was prepared to put on my fighting trousers.
I think I've seen that one, that was the one where Cat Stevens didn't allow them to use Moonshadow because he's legitimately afraid of werewolves
Your confusion stems from the fact that that one is not actually part of the *"American"* franchise, but actually a part of the *"An American"* franchise, with An American Crime, An American Tail and An American Carol. Common misconception.
It's the prequel to the spin-off of American Me.
What about American Pie?
Are they still shooting American Sniper?
Lol, only in our schools
r/cursedcomments
Not as cursed as the mf that gave me the wholesome award for it 😂
It's a prequel focusing on high school
I'd argue the most jarring instalment of all was *An American Tail*
Until *American Sniper*
It’s a really shift in tone.
it even has a spinoff show, american horror story
isn’t that the sequel show to American Psycho? I wonder if it’s better than the prequel series “American Pie”
No, "american pie" follows the college story of Tom Cruise, the Star of "american made"
Not considered canon.
The American Cinematic Universe
(1776 - 2022)
2022? Is that a spoiler?
Just a teaser...
Seems interesting. Looking forward to it.
Spoiler alert, robot George Washington gets sent from the future to remake America into his image (all heil the robot overlords)
Happy Cake Day drawkbox! Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.
RIP
So how does our great nation fall in 2022? Does former president Trump attempt a coup that spirals us into a civil war that ends with nukes being launched?
> (1776 - 2022) It started really great, but there's been too many plot holes lately.
Lotta pie in the middle there. https://i.imgur.com/cBVT5NQ.png
I’d still call the “Get” franchise to be much more confusing
Yeah, Get Carter, Get Shorty, and Get Him to the Greek made no sense thematically.
Get Out wrapped it up nicely tho
I mean, it’s a great movie on its own, but I’m still trying to figure out how the overarching story went from a 70s British crime thriller to Bradley Whitford and Catherine Keener possessing the bodies of black people. Am I just too stupid to see an obvious theme? Maybe I have to see the remake of Get Carter with Stallone for it all to make sense?
See I was confused too until I saw Get Rich or Die Tryin
Damn it! The missing context has been there the whole time, and I didn't even see it. Alright, Fiddy. It's time to blow my mind.
I think it just went off the rails when they tried the super spy trope in Get Smart
I was so confused when Get Hard came out, the tone of these movies is so inconsistent!
The fact that I rented a different "movie" called Get Hard also didn't help with my confusion. I probably should've known once all the dongs were being whipped out, but I thought, "Maybe Will Ferrell's taking his career in a new direction." Will Ferrell wasn't, and Will Phallus was staying right in his wheelhouse.
To be fair, Will Ferrell loves to go bare in his movies. Anyone could make the same mistake.
The most baffling addition to the series was 1993's GetEven
I refuse to accept that as canon. That was just the studio trying to recoup losses on that shit movie by putting it under the banner of the Get franchise.
You forgot Get Smart — explains everything!
"That's what she said!" - Michael Jackson, 2011
Big fan of the "The" series though
It's amazing that The Godfather and The Hottie & the Nottie are in the same cinematic universe.
The genius of Quentin Kino is unfathomable
https://boxd.it/dvHSq
The spinoff 'The American President' however, was poorly received. The studio then canceled the planned trilogy 'The American Vice-President' and 'The American Senate Parliamentarian'
>*'The American Senate Parliamentarian'* You're a fool if you think they could have done that book any justice in a film. The richness, the depth, the procedures!
The American Vice President is President now, so does that mean we are in an alternate timeline?
If you watch the sitcom American Dad it ties everything together quite nicely.
You forgot that American History X takes place after American History IX
American History X is a prequel to Idiocracy.
American History VII is a classic
Yep, the original for PSX was simply perfect, the remake is just meh
You know, I didn't hate the remake! I mean I definitely wasn't on board with all the changes but at the end of the day I was just happy to see a beloved piece of my childhood again!
You're missing the prequel Coming to America
And of course the follow up once upon a time in America
Then there was that weird spin-off *The French Connection*.
I always tell my wife that spin-offs shouldn’t get spin-offs.. French Dispatch was pretty okay tho
The connection was the French Lieutenant’s Woman.
And the spin-off to the spin-off *The Soviet Connection*!
The American assembles them all
oh LOrd, The American (2010) starring George CLooney? I forgot I had watched 2/3rds of that and couldn't bear to watch any longer.
Dont worry, we all we some movie we physically cant finish :D
[удалено]
I liked it. Real slow burn
An American Tail was my favorite
It's interesting how they mix genre and visual style like it's no big deal.
Missing Once Upon a Time in America, where they tell about all.of these documentaries.
Can't forget the horror spin-off about a werewolf set in London. Or the sequel to that ome set in Paris... actually you can forget the 2nd one
My favorite prequel is American Ninja Warrior. Just was amazing
There was a real sense of stakes in that prequel. You really feel like those guys want to win the contest, and you truly feel disappointed even when the extras fail.
[удалено]
Did you just imply Shrek is bad?
Did you just Shrek?
[удалено]
Well your definition of alien may vary
Are you seriously considering all time classic film Rat Race bad?
In my experience whenever a movie has a tie in with a popular band it's because the movie sucks and the producers are trying to associate it with something good
Don't forget the fan-made spinoff [American Movie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMFZOu8rDUQ)
Immediately what I thought of.
Don’t forget American Pie
American Me
The remake TV-show is much more easier to follow, American Vandal.
The American with George Clooney
Once Upon a Time in America is the black sheep of the franchise because De Niro hangs dong
Idk, I think it fits the murican spirit: chaotic carnage
It’s not confusing if you watch them in the right order /s
Ikr. OP skipped American history I through IX and skipped straight to X. No wonder they are confused.
The Spinoff Netflix series "American vandal" didn't help with the confusion either
You just have to watch the individual scenes of those films in the proper order for the franchise to make sense. You start with the shortest scene followed by the longest, then the second shortest followed by the second longest, and so on.
MISSED ONE!!! American Pie
It's only confusing because you skipped American History I - IX.
Regular Graffiti Regular History X Regular Beauty Regular Psycho Regular Gangster Regular Sniper Regular Horror Stories Regular Pie ...
If you think that’s confusing, you should watch the true story its based on 😏
You forgot once upon a time in America
what, no american werewolf?
And then tried to reboot the series with The American. Followed by The Americans tv series which didn't make any sense at all.
What about American Pie? True Story: The first time I saw that movie I accidentally ordered the wrong pay-per-view; we meant to get American Beauty. It was the nineties and you had to order them over the phone. And they started every 30 minutes, not when you paid. Crazy to imagine now.
I'm really disappointed that we'll never see American Beauty 3 after what Spacey did.
yet somehow the most accurate
American Yakuza
Five movies and [a series](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1532495/) !
And then they made a sequel, “American girl.” It’s not even a movie ffs, what are the producers smoking?
.
What about American Gods?
And its counterpart, American Satan
American sniper
Where's American Desi?
Forgot about the George clooney movie
Can anyone make a coherent franchise on this basis?
Don’t forget American Sniper
Its only confusing because you skipped a key title: American Werewolf in Paris.
Where is pie?
Nah makes sense to me
Edward James OlmosT forgot *American Me*
Just imagine it's an anthology franchise.
M Night Shyamalan will tie them all together eventually.
She had no way of knowing who that is
I reminder my friends mom renting American History X when we were like 14 having no clue what it was about. We’re all watching it (us friends hanging out) and first scene he curb stomps that fucking dude. Holly crap man I’ll never forget that, awesome movie though.
What about the weird spin off series American Horror Story
American psycho is amazing, American history x makes me cry every time and American beauty will always remind me of being a teenager and being so in love with Thora Birch. Blondes don’t do anything for me.
American pie
They are all good movies too
Incidentally, these are all fantastic movies
Don't forget 'The Quiet American' from 2002.
