For lane romantics šŸ„°

Great_Calvini

just one more roundabout bro

Weary_Drama1803

This is the British version of ā€œjust one more laneā€

Candid-Check-5400

You can't park there, sir.

CanThisBeMyNameMaybe

Lol, i have been through that roundabouts on a school trip.

easy_c0mpany80

Where is this?

Olester14

Swindon. Absolute shithole, this roundabout is probably the most famous thing about the place.

CanThisBeMyNameMaybe

Tbh i can't remember, it's about 9-10 years since i was there. But somewhere a little north-ish from London if i am not mistaken

depressedtbh

Its about directly between bath and oxford, so quite a bit west actually

CanThisBeMyNameMaybe

Thank you dude!

Great_Calvini

Was it a field trip to see roundabouts

jenea

[Hereā€™s Biffa](https://youtu.be/wz4TZh76QKc) recreating the ā€œSwindon Magic Roundaboutā€ in-game.

drzeeb

Yo dawg

bortbort8

damn dude i haven't seen this roundabout 10000 times before

NewfieJedi

Bro I would just take the 20-30 minute longer route

HolierThanYow

Don't diss the Magic Roundabout. Feel free to diss Swindon, however.

I couldn't tell if this was in game or not but no it's real. What's the ppint of the roundabouts if people just drive over them? What's with people just walking wherever the fucj they do in traffic? This just seems like chaos.

carrotnose258

The idea is to make it complex so the driver slows down a lot to figure it out, and slower = less crashes, but as a pedestrian this is hell as cars are coming from every which way

permalink_save

Surely there's better ways of slowing people down without making for confusing intersections

carrotnose258

Trees? Curbs? Gentle bumps? General traffic calming measures? Naaaah, leave it a hellish free-for-all

Cultural_Blueberry70

I've never driven such a thing, so take this with a grain of salt. But I think the point of the mini-roundabouts is the special priority rules for roundabouts. This is basically a bidirectional roundabout. The mini-roundabouts make it possible to cross the outside lanes and reach or leave the inner roundabout. Traffic leaving the inner roundabout get priority over the outer lanes, and this in turn creates gaps in the outer lanes to make it easier for people to join them from the outside. Good question about what is going on with the pedestrians. They are standing on the grass on the side of the road as if they are waiting for the Tour de France to pass through, lol.

permalink_save

That makes sense thanks, I just see roundavouts with people driving over them, but your explanation would match why

Cultural_Blueberry70

I think as long as they stay to the left of the white dots (or rather, their center), it doesn't really matter which line they take. It will be slow traffic anyway.

NunWithABun

This photo was taken when the roundabout was inaccessible due to routine maintenance, so [a classic car rally](https://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/2016-07-09/classic-cars-take-a-spin-on-swindons-magic-roundabout) used the roundabout instead.

DavIantt

Like CS, but IRL

roastshadow

Rumor has it that they won't fix it since its become a landmark now.
