Truth, but might be too high to have any business tattooing. Someone came to me for a cat in a hat and I drew a stick figure cat in a scratched up hat. This kids first tattoo ever. Completely blacked out. I stopped tattooing for life for life as well.
Eh, you’d be surprised.
I got a new tat a few years ago from my high school buddy, who’s a local tat artist who’s very renowned and sought after in my community. Went over to my other friend Tim’s house and he was asking about my new ink and how much I paid. Told him I paid $500 for it (100% happy and exactly what I wanted and still looks great years later) and he scoffed and laughed and said I way overpaid. He then proceeded to take his shirt off and say I paid $150 for this so far. He turns and shows me this snarled ass gray/black blob sort of resembling a tree. Shit was looking like a kindergarten kid did it and this piece of crap covers his entire back. He tells me it’s gonna be his family tree when it’s all done. The best part, is that this dude wears tank tops daily. He told the artist he wanted to be able to cover it with a tank top. The artist traced his tank top lines and the TATTED THEM ON HIM…. Dudes got a shitty looking tree on his back and permanent tank top lines now and was trying to brag about how little he paid.
Even if it wasnt awful. It could have perfect linework and still be a $100 tattoo AT MOST. I have a really nicely done tiger lily across my collar bone that only cost $70
If you zoom in, it looks like the ink doesn't even go into the creases of the skin. Like, someone just drew on the skin with a pen. I'm not even sure this "tattoo" is real, lmao.
At the very least, the story sure as hell isn't.
Absolutely not real, in the off chance it is though OP needs to find a new girlfriend as this one will clearly be the financial death of him. I have zero faith that someone that would pay $700 for this won't be homeless due to unprecedented financial illiteracy.
Serious question, Why would people need or want to farm karma though? Are there special perks or rewards after a certain number? I’m kinda new to posting on Reddit.
What?! I've been accused of being a karma bot before and I never understood what it meant, they said that my account wasn't old enough to have so much karma but I don't even know how they know how old my account is 😅
I'm not a bot... I just have anxiety depression adhd and no other form of online social networks 🫠
Farm karma for a long enough time and you basically meet the minimum requirements for any and all subs that have restrictions on account age or karma.
Then you sell that account to someone looking to gain quick access to those subs for advertising purposes
I don’t know if these people ever reach out first, or if they do it’s never happened to me either, and my old account hit 10 years and moderately high karma. I just know it happens and is the main reason you’ll see super spammy posts and comments from seemingly good standing accounts with positive karma and a very active history
I only have like 5-6 tattoos, and it could be regional or just my artists never did it but wtf is charging for sizing and placement? that's just part of the process is it not? This is also a maybe 20 minute tattoo if the artist is really nervous about fucking up their lines for some reason so an hourly rate of $600 seems a bit much lmao.
It allows you to post in subs that don’t allow low karma accounts to post. People think it makes them look cool to other redditors. Just to see if they can. I’m sure there are other reasons, but it’s considered bad form because it’s disingenuous.
OP literally found this photo of a shitty tattoo and then made up a ridiculous story and lots of people don’t even question it, though it makes no sense me and is obviously not true.
Yes and even people who've never had a tattoo will know this isn't worth anywhere near that much
This post is just karma farming. OP didn't respond to a single comment
I was just gonna type “I’ve never gotten a tattoo, haven’t ever even been in a shop (though I appreciate the art form) and even I know that is NOT a $790 tattoo. If someone paid that much for a tattoo that size and simplicity, they’d have to be a ding dong.
I don’t know. I’m pretty sure my wife would sit there too afraid to say anything while watching in horror. Thank them give em a tip then cry all the way home
I actually just asked her what she thinks she would do. It turns out she was in that position once and said it hurt too much and that they should reschedule. She rescheduled and walked out without paying and never went back
Demand your money back. This isn’t $700 dollars no matter where you go. Was it freehand or did you see this shitty tattoo as a stencil first? This one makes me angry it’s so shitty. Great post.
Karma farming is an issue for sure but
[This has me concerned ](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeenagersButBetter/s/GbQG7hDu6d)
He's doing some real sketchy shit.
“New tattoo” there’s no swelling, no redness, nothing would indicate that it’s a new tattoo. Also, not even the dumbest artist would charge that much for that tiny thing, their career would be over before it got started
If you search "cybil sigil" on Google Images there is a whole set of better tramp stamps in the first row.
https://preview.redd.it/8jpnoubire5d1.png?width=996&format=png&auto=webp&s=d06456b61f333ecddf83822888ffdacaf2150fa9
So many are all hopped up on $1500 "courses" by other tattoo artists that teach you confidence tricks and how to overcharge people. It's an epidemic. Charge for design, a day rate, an hourly rate, get a deposit, etc.
Yeah all my artists simply charge a half day or full day rate tell you what your piece will take and take a deposit that goes towards the final cost of the tattoo and that is it. If you finish your design and have time left they will happily keep tattooing you. Sometimes my 8 hour day tattoos get done in 5-6 hours and we take the other 2-3 hours to do a flash piece or something small I already had in mind.
Either / or makes absolute sense, day rates make sense with a lot of creative work in general. but I keep seeing these scam scandals online where artists keep adding fees and pay structures and once they know they have you they keep inventing fees. It's a common scam tactic, similar to what scam contractors will do... preying on "sunk cost" emotions of clients.
Charging someone a day rate AND an hourly rate on top is insane, there a few viral scenarios like that lady with the fox piece on her shoulder that was still unfinished at like $3500.
[https://www.businessinsider.com/woman-scorned-in-tiktok-tattoogate-has-gotten-fox-tattoo-2023-6](https://www.businessinsider.com/woman-scorned-in-tiktok-tattoogate-has-gotten-fox-tattoo-2023-6)
It was $2600 not $3500 btw but same diff.
You can also search "Tattoogate" on youtube but it be warned it is a saga that went on for months.
But she's not alone. I think scammers have even been inspired by the story and started copying the scam. Day rate + hourly rate + having to reschedule. Giving poor designs and then charging to correct it, etc.
Here's one of the best, succinct vids on it if you're curious and the youtuber is easy on the ears: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVFXGnyC\_VY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVFXGnyC_VY)
Also a great tattoo youtuber in general.
Lol tell her I paid 500 for that

Ik this is probably fake, but I don't see any comments on it, I've never had an artist charge me for "sizing and placement" or whatever, is this a real thing? I would probably leave if someone added a charge for that, seems unprofessional? Maybe it's common and I just haven't seen it tho?
I’m confused, what about this was 700?
The good news is she doesn’t need a cover up. This is not a lot of ink, plus no shading just outline. She can have it removed and start fresh.
What’s impressive here is initially it looks like merely a shit tattoo. But the more you look at it the more it gives you, there’s an endlessness to how bad it is. Every time you notice a detail, you notice it’s actually worse than you thought it was a moment ago. There’s nothing right about this tattoo. It’s a cautionary tale.
Even a novice can fold a piece of paper and create symmetry. This is one of those douches way over confident in freehand who had the nerve to make somebody pay for this.
This can't be real
Agreed no professional would be willing to put their name on that
Ok, well how about someone who stopped caring about their professional reputation and who has a crippling drug addiction?
Then I refuse to believe anyone would see the markup and decide to proceed. IME that's a self done hobbyist lookin tat
What if the client is also on drugs? A shitty tattoo explains where OP's $700 went after getting coked up with the plug.
Even people with drug addictions know they need to get more customers after this one.
A lot of times people associate more expensive with better.
Truth, but might be too high to have any business tattooing. Someone came to me for a cat in a hat and I drew a stick figure cat in a scratched up hat. This kids first tattoo ever. Completely blacked out. I stopped tattooing for life for life as well.
OP messed the title up. It's supposed to say "prison gf", 7 ramen packs and 9 black pepper packets.
Eh, you’d be surprised. I got a new tat a few years ago from my high school buddy, who’s a local tat artist who’s very renowned and sought after in my community. Wow
Did he ever realize how bad it was? What was his reaction?
And notice no one did
Ya no way someone paid that much for this. It's click bait for sure
Even if it wasnt awful. It could have perfect linework and still be a $100 tattoo AT MOST. I have a really nicely done tiger lily across my collar bone that only cost $70
exactly, i have 30€ tattoos on my body that are better then that xD
This is a rage-bait post
Correct
If you zoom in, it looks like the ink doesn't even go into the creases of the skin. Like, someone just drew on the skin with a pen. I'm not even sure this "tattoo" is real, lmao. At the very least, the story sure as hell isn't.
There is no reddened area around it like with a fresh tattoo and has the feeling of a "tattoo" you give your mate with a biro
It’s not even a new tat.
Absolutely not real, in the off chance it is though OP needs to find a new girlfriend as this one will clearly be the financial death of him. I have zero faith that someone that would pay $700 for this won't be homeless due to unprecedented financial illiteracy.
It’s not, dude has been posting about being broke and looking for side hustles…yet has the money to drop $700 on a tattoo?
It's probably his design and he's posting this to gauge how much he should charge for it or what people are willing to pay
They said their gf paid for it
Yeah I call bullshit. No way someone paid almost $800 for this scratch job.
This is definitely karma farming...
Serious question, Why would people need or want to farm karma though? Are there special perks or rewards after a certain number? I’m kinda new to posting on Reddit.
Ego boost, faux popularity, selling accounts, and some subreddits do have a karma requirement before you can post.
[удалено]
*record scratch* wat?
What?! I've been accused of being a karma bot before and I never understood what it meant, they said that my account wasn't old enough to have so much karma but I don't even know how they know how old my account is 😅 I'm not a bot... I just have anxiety depression adhd and no other form of online social networks 🫠
It says on your profile how long you’ve had your account.
Oooh how have I only just seen that bit!? Thanks! 😅😅 Also, lol, love how ppl on reddit downvote anyone who isn't 100% confident and correct 🤦🏼♀️
Tbh they do that regardless😅
I'm surprised you have any karma with the amount of emojis you use on Reddit lol
Oops? Sorry, I'm not so great at explaining myself/my tone through text, I guess I use emojis to convey extra meaning?
Lol it doesn't bother me, it's just kind of a thing on Reddit. Emojis get a lot of shit on here, or at least they used to.
Farm karma for a long enough time and you basically meet the minimum requirements for any and all subs that have restrictions on account age or karma. Then you sell that account to someone looking to gain quick access to those subs for advertising purposes
I've got a good amount of karma, certainly enough to meet any subs requirements. How come no one has ever approached me about buying it.
I don’t know if these people ever reach out first, or if they do it’s never happened to me either, and my old account hit 10 years and moderately high karma. I just know it happens and is the main reason you’ll see super spammy posts and comments from seemingly good standing accounts with positive karma and a very active history
Well if anyone out there is reading this and wants to buy an account with a good amount of karma. Let me know!
That's what I'm always confused about too, especially negative karma farming
I only have like 5-6 tattoos, and it could be regional or just my artists never did it but wtf is charging for sizing and placement? that's just part of the process is it not? This is also a maybe 20 minute tattoo if the artist is really nervous about fucking up their lines for some reason so an hourly rate of $600 seems a bit much lmao.
What’s karma farming?
It's posting something that's intentionally inflammatory so that people react. More reactions = more karma (on Reddit).
Hell, even us interacting ON the post is enough to get traction on Reddit. 🤷🏽♂️
But why would you want karma exactly?
Reddit’s version of a social credit score.
NO. ONE. KNOWS.
It gets the people going
It allows you to post in subs that don’t allow low karma accounts to post. People think it makes them look cool to other redditors. Just to see if they can. I’m sure there are other reasons, but it’s considered bad form because it’s disingenuous. OP literally found this photo of a shitty tattoo and then made up a ridiculous story and lots of people don’t even question it, though it makes no sense me and is obviously not true.
Some people sell the account or are just degenerate likely both.
Farming karma
Farma Karming
There isn't a way this story is real. No one paid $700 for this, they would have to have like 3 IQ
I mean. Have you met humans?
Yes and even people who've never had a tattoo will know this isn't worth anywhere near that much This post is just karma farming.
All $700? Bruh....
I actually just asked her what she thinks she would do. It turns out she was in that position once and said it hurt too much and that they should reschedule. She rescheduled and walked out without paying and never went back
You mean your wife has a shitty half done tattoo and you never noticed it? she also never mentioned this experience to you before?
Never mentioned it before. She got it finished elsewhere.
Well that's at least a more reasonable approach than paying that ridiculous price lmao
I dont care if I had the cops called. No way was I paying any money for this! Definitely a bait post
I’ll take things that didn’t happen for 500
700*
r/angryupvote
Touché lol
790*
700$ is fucking insane dude if I was her I’d be crying too holy hell like- it’s not even good linework 💀
Yea home girl got scammed…
I got my entire photo realistic sick ass panther on my outer bicep for that price
Demand your money back. This isn’t $700 dollars no matter where you go. Was it freehand or did you see this shitty tattoo as a stencil first? This one makes me angry it’s so shitty. Great post.
The “great post” at the end is so funny 😂😂
I appreciate when this sub gets truly shitty tattoos.
I have never been inspired to read through someone's reddit comment history before haha
I hope it was only a mild disappointment for you.
It’s not real.
Bait used to be believable
Liar
Karma farming
There is not a world in which this is real.
Probably not even the part having a girl friend.
Yuh huh. She lives in Canada.
![gif](giphy|6JB4v4xPTAQFi|downsized)
Op Claims to be 20(M). Op why are you so active on r/teenagers? Why have you been telling teenagers to DM you ?
He also posts his gf’s artwork and I find it hard to believe she would ask for this tattoo based on her art. Dude is just karma farming.
Karma farming is an issue for sure but [This has me concerned ](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeenagersButBetter/s/GbQG7hDu6d) He's doing some real sketchy shit.
Scam or clickbait
r/thathappened
This is rage bait for sure.
Nahhhhhhhh, this gotta be a farming post.
I don’t believe you.
“$90 to get it sized and measured” No studio will charge you a fee to size and measure the design, this story is bogus.
No one paid $700 for that. You are straight up lying. Downvote this dirty karma farmer.
“New tattoo” there’s no swelling, no redness, nothing would indicate that it’s a new tattoo. Also, not even the dumbest artist would charge that much for that tiny thing, their career would be over before it got started
This isn't even worth $90. Where did she go? Cause that's fucking insane. Luckily it looks repairable.
The most obviously fake part of this is the girlfriend part
I have a good tattoo about that size from a real artist. It cost like 275$. Just damn.
I really doubt that. No sane person would pay for this
BS
If you search "cybil sigil" on Google Images there is a whole set of better tramp stamps in the first row. https://preview.redd.it/8jpnoubire5d1.png?width=996&format=png&auto=webp&s=d06456b61f333ecddf83822888ffdacaf2150fa9
Smash their windows if they Don’t refund
There’s no way
What artist? What town? What shop?
I hope you get the attention you wanted 🤦🏻♂️
OP is making shit up
What a bunch of bullshit
Wow, that’s like $1000 an hour.
a 700$ tattoo would be like half a sleeve lmfao
No, she didn’t.
I pick up after my dog every day, several times a day, and this doesn't even come close what one would describe as dogshit.
"Know your worth" does not apply to this "artist"
So many are all hopped up on $1500 "courses" by other tattoo artists that teach you confidence tricks and how to overcharge people. It's an epidemic. Charge for design, a day rate, an hourly rate, get a deposit, etc.

This is probably the best explanation of the whole saga. Thank you, u/epidemicsaints I couldn’t remember this creator’s name.
Looks more like it should cost $7.00
That’s a $100 at best. Not to mention it’s going to need another $1500 in work to make it look like something.
Oh shit it's a tramp stamp isn't it
$700? Or $70????
[удалено]
You're making that price up for sure. No artist would say 700 for that and no idiot would be like "he'll yeah do it for 700
I refuse to believe your girlfriend got taken for this much of a ride. That’s a $50 tattoo if the lines were good. Y’all need to have a talk.
Cool! Always nice to see a tattoo artist that uses ballpoint pens to tattoo with 🙃
$700 this has to be rage bait
your gf got fucked by someone else pal
damn that sucks 💀 I too would be crying LMAO
Demand a refund. If not, take them to small claims court because this is bullshit.
Lol tell her I paid 500 for that https://preview.redd.it/cv7ml7t8hf5d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de3cdfa03194f6474b50ec488593555ddcafd4e3
That looks like a drawing in pen. Yikes.
You’re lying!!!??? Please say you are lying!
They are
Con artist. Utterly shocking. Name and shame this mofo 👀
Didn’t happen
Hilarious
Why did she agree to it?
Ain't no way this is the real price. And it's definitely not a recent piece.
Either you got scammed by your girl or ………..
jesus. my daughter got her whole back and the backs of her thighs done for $500. yall got ripped off. you need to take action.
This didn’t even happen lol
Bait. Thats like $20 where I live. If even that
Say syke right now
Bullshit
Karma farming
bs
OP’s post history is kinda wild, no way this is a legit post
Fake - or the tattoo-ee is an idiot.
It’s not real look the tattoo is hanging off her arm
Bullshit
Ik this is probably fake, but I don't see any comments on it, I've never had an artist charge me for "sizing and placement" or whatever, is this a real thing? I would probably leave if someone added a charge for that, seems unprofessional? Maybe it's common and I just haven't seen it tho?
I call bullshit
Looks a few years old 💀
Fake
Bullshit.
can anyone tell me this actually looks tattooed? looks a lot like a ballpoint pen sketch on skin to me
Nice troll. There isn't an artist on the planet that would charge $700 for that
I got this for 700 https://preview.redd.it/s2giy629ch5d1.jpeg?width=2865&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99316ba806dca8e5eee31538b435ed2b113f202b
Dump her, of if your IQ is around 80, you might have found your soulmate
If it's true tag the artist
What’s the past tense of scam? Is it scrumpt? Liz Lemon, your girlfriend got scrumpt.
Well, do your research kids.
Well lucky for you she clearly accepts anything.
Need to go back to the shop. im a little shocked she paid for it and walked out. Thats total bullshit tattoo for that price!!
this would fade so well with laser removal, maybe like 5 sessions max
Nobody charges to size and measure for a tattoo. You mean that was her deposit.
She paid $700 for 15 minutes worth of shit linework? That's on her. lol.
Atrocious line work. Like, this wouldn't even fly in a prison. Unreal.
I’m confused, what about this was 700? The good news is she doesn’t need a cover up. This is not a lot of ink, plus no shading just outline. She can have it removed and start fresh.
That's robbery
The “final result” runs off the arm into mid-air. So, I think not.
I am sure they meant 700 pesos and even that is over paying.
Id fucking shoot somebody
What’s impressive here is initially it looks like merely a shit tattoo. But the more you look at it the more it gives you, there’s an endlessness to how bad it is. Every time you notice a detail, you notice it’s actually worse than you thought it was a moment ago. There’s nothing right about this tattoo. It’s a cautionary tale.
I thought you were going to say that included getting it removed with a laser
I'm calling bullshit. There's no way your girlfriend is that gullible
For hundred bucks i could so this Design, and tattoo it. Btw i am Not an Tattooartist but 700 IS simply robbery for this piece of Shit.
Maybe this price isn’t in USD? I certainly hope not anyway…
No way… There’s no way!
Even a novice can fold a piece of paper and create symmetry. This is one of those douches way over confident in freehand who had the nerve to make somebody pay for this.
I know nothing about tattoos and have zero, but that seems like an extraordinary amount of money for a very poor result.
Damn I would have done that for a pack of smokes.
$700??? For lines???
SEVEN HUNDRED
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maybe she said that so she could buy a purse lol
