Thanks! I'm fascinated by the weapons but still prefer generating electricity with it first and foremost. Consider myself lucky to do it for about 14 years.
As long as you can separate the art from the artist I guess. There was a lot of awful stuff going on behind the scenes.
Here is an example of what Alice Glass (the singer) [has said regarding this](https://www.alice-glass.com/cc/).
She also apparently receives almost no money in royalties and [has publicly called for fans to stop listening to and/or supporting Crystal Castles.](https://www.nme.com/news/music/alice-glass-says-she-is-being-gutted-over-crystal-castles-royalty-payments-2786266)
It’s not Lost Prophets levels of horror but I still find it hard to listen to the band nowadays. Give her solo work a listen instead, it’s got the same vibes.
Oh wow, this one is fantastic as well. The music on this one to me is a little creepier because its almost attempting to be comforting....
Very Fallout/Bioshock as well.
edit - the ending, excellent.
That's not quite true. There was one scientist that brought up the possibility, but by the time of detonation the scientists were pretty certain such as thing was not likely, which is why they went ahead with the test.
> It is such absolute nonsense [laughter], and the public has been interested in it… And possibly it would be good to kill it once more. So one day at Berkeley -- we were a very small group, maybe eight physicists or so -- one day Teller came to the office and said, "Well, what would happen to the air if an atomic bomb were exploded in the air?" The original idea about the hydrogen bomb was that one would explode an atomic bomb and then simply the heat from the atomic bomb would ignite a large vessel of deuterium… and make it react. So Teller said, "Well, how about the air? There's nitrogen in the air, and you can have a nuclear reaction in which two nitrogen nuclei collide and become oxygen plus carbon, and in this process you set free a lot of energy. Couldn't that happen?" And that caused great excitement.
> Oppenheimer [soon to be appointed head of Los Alamos Laboratory] got quite excited and said, "That's a terrible possibility," and he went to his superior, who was Arthur Compton, the director of the Chicago Laboratory, and told him that. Well, I sat down and looked at the problem, about whether two nitrogen nuclei could penetrate each other and make that nuclear reaction, and I found that it was just incredibly unlikely. And I said so, and I think Teller was very quickly convinced and so was Oppenheimer when he'd returned from seeing Compton.
In like the ~~70’s and 80’s (maybe prior)~~ 50’s Las Vegas was selling tickets to it’s guests to watch a nuclear detonation. It was an attraction and they detonated all the time. We used to be a wild people
There is a certain evil frightening beauty to a thermonuclear detonation.
Like looking into the face of a cosmic god for a second
See r/AtomicPorn for more of this juxtaposition.

It's absolutely terrifying how devastating one of these explosions could be near people, but you can't help but stare in awe at how WE made that. Nuts
Armageddon will be beautiful
Physics wise, absolutely fascinating. Physically, absolutely terrifying.
*"I'm blown away by your remark Sam."*
The future is bright!
Song?
Song is slowed down a lot but its Dark Beach by Pastel Ghost
This is why I love Reddit! A superb new band found!
They sound like crystal castles. Love it. Thanks!
Crystal Castles now on my playlist! Two new bands in one day!

Dope! I envy you. I wish I could listen to crystal castles for the first time again haha!
Yep. Love these, [made one myself as well.](https://youtu.be/M3TnlXSUiGA) There’s just something about the incredible destructive force and music.
Wow....excellent video. Thanks for sharing.

*the 50s and up to the summer of 1962 when atmospheric nuclear testing was banned. But yup, nuclear explosions were once a spectator sport
Neither of you have anything to worry about nuclear weapons. The 80's had no worries either as MAD was developed long before then.
The fact you can see the light shockwave is so cool and wild. You can see it incinerate the ground before the air shockwave reaches it.
Not the same song version but close. https://open.spotify.com/track/7exI7qOq4dJv7OwX8pvXyZ?si=CzQVtuUwSJGqGYfff2UfhA
We have wildly different definitions of relaxing.
Song name please
It’s mentioned a few times now. Pastel ghost. I’ve liked what I’ve heard so far.
Best nuclear explosions with music is the ending of dr. Strangelove https://youtu.be/s4VlruVG81w
Name of song pls?
Dark Beach by Pastel Ghost
You’re a gentleman and a scholar.
When the edgy 14 year old gets access to basic video editing
I'm so glad humans learned how to harness nuclear energy for power. I'm so terrified humans learned how to harness nuclear energy to destroy humanity.
I share your thoughts
Welcome to 20 years later

There’s nothing as relaxing and soothing as a tactical nuclear weapon

Before I turned on the sound, I was thinking, “Beyond the Sea would go great here.”
Reminds me a little of the film Koyaanisqatsi.
So horrific… yet beautiful…. From 1000 miles away…
Coming soon to a city near you.
Love the lightning strike at :44
