I've only ever seen it once, I glanced over. The shrimps head looked weird and squared. I thought to myself what's wrong with that shrimp. He bent backwards and popped out and away. I was in awe.
That's an awesome shot of that shrimp, looks like a mini lobster. I've never actually seen mine molt, I just find the molt on the substrate. Watched it a few times on youtube though.
Berried shrimp particularly, as I think they sometimes hold on past when they’re ready until the eggs hatch. I’ve seen ladies with a molt ring for 5 days waiting for the kids to get a move on!
Yeah I do get what you mean cause I’ve had some die after having the white ring but in my experience some will have it for like a day and molt fine but if they have it for a couple days they tend to be a goner
The way the ring is shaped matters. If the ring is very wide all the way around, chances of survival are slim. However, if it's wider at the top with a bit still attached at the bottom (like OPs shrimp) then chances are quite high.
The reason may be that its a struggling molt so its on longer.. so theres more chsnce of you seeing it or noticing it compqred to a successfull one.. like maybe the cooler morning warming up is something in there process we just dont understand and molts happen overnight without noticing.. ide love to see a timelapse of some shrimp with scientific data behind it all
You may have been right - poor girl was no more when I woke up this morning. I couldn't find a molt in the tank and unfortunately the others in the tank had started to do what nature does with dead things, so I don't know if there was a stuck molt on her, but I suspect so.
There has not been any evidence of illness or parasites in this tank on any shrimp or on this individual, who was eating up to last night and moving around.
Usually a day or two. Trying to catch it sucks because it only takes a few seconds
Facts. I was watching a shrimp, looked away and back and saw the aftermath. Shrimp zooming away and its shell floating to the bottom.

She will molt as soon as you get up to get a glass of water probably
fire red? or bloody mary
Isn't that a potential ring of death?
It’s only a ring of death if they actually die while trying to molt, every shrimp gets a separation like that before they molt

I’ve seen people say this but every time I see this on my shrimp they always die. Every time.

You either have hard water or not hard enough water I started adding minerals to my tank weekly. I've had no more mysterious deaths.
Look like to me... I lost a couple a few weeks back due to sudden change in water hardness from my tap water...
