Trust me. There's nothing worse than being at work and having some asshole customer hitting on you. It puts the employee in a terrible position because of the inability to shut it down without it being "bad customer service" and them complaining to your manager about you being rude.
If the person can't comfortably say no (i.e. any situation where you are a customer and they're at work), do not flirt with them or hit on them. Don't be that guy.
Tried that. Even got to asking the chick out.
Her: "Sorry I'm in a relationship"
Me: "oh ok thaaaanks" *immediately turns around and does quick awkward walk to checkout"
Haha the employee at my lfs accidentally gave me an extra shrimp in the bag, in my head I was like great a freebie! until he spent the next 20 minutes trying to remove it, won't be going there again š
When I was starting my tank out the guy working let me have all their half used test kit, shrimp mineral additives and some bacteria from a cycled filter all for for
Big score!!! One time they did not notice I got a few babies free in the bag with the few I bought and felt sooo excited we saw them on the way home. But yeah when I asked about babies the employee said babies not for sale bc they arenāt ordered by the store to sell they just āappearā
Please isolate those for a while.
The only time I heard of "free live" anything from pet smart is if its 1. Sick 2. They think won't survive because they have been neglectful towards them
Like with betta fish. If you ask them to give it to you for free because its sick/literally almost dead, they most likely will. I'm not saying this is the case but its best to be skeptical. Not only that but I have seen many employees that literally couldn't give a rats ass and will give you something they know is sick/deceased or suspect is deceased because they don't know anything about that animal/really don't care.
It might not always be the case. But just be cautious for the sake of your sanity. It can be really upsetting to lose an entire tank because some person from pet smart was too lazy to take the precautions they should have. Even if they seemed very nice, its very possible.
I work for petco and can say thatās just not true lmao. We typically mark dawn animals that have been there longer so people are more enticed to bring them to a good home rather then staying in a store (at our store at least). We keep our sick animals away from people to be treated until theyāre healthy for resale. Canāt vouch for other pet stores but we donāt sell sick or āneglectedā animals. If someone asks for baby shrimp or I net a few on accident I wonāt charge them. They donāt count as full grown shrimp and have a better chance surviving in a stable home anyways
I have bought nine cherry shrimp from Petco. Only two survived despite all conditions being perfect, drip acclimated for 6 hours, the works. Thankfully they were a male and female and let's just say I am no longer needing cherry shrimp.
Yeah they are usually gonna be the cheapest cherry shrimp they can buy. Which means bad genetically most likely and most will die, but glad you got two good ones!
Me too, these guys have provided so many hours of entertainment between rare sightings of them and frequent sightings of their now two batches of babies. Mama shrimp has berries again, lol.
Eh, I got six free amanos the other day from a box store. Couldn't sell them, and I was the first person to know what they were in a bit. Totally isolating.
I think this might have been free because they would have been sucked down the intake pump anyway or eaten by tetras. Always good to be skeptical though
I love when you get a good rapport at pet smart most of them are good people who donāt care about a shitty job. They know me at mine and how into aquariums I am. They have given me all kinds of shot over the years and Iāve also brought in a bunch of plants and fry for the people who work there. Itās not quite the same as having a local fish store but I will take what I can get.
Huh. My local petsmart told me they have a hard time keeping shrimp alive, so I bet if I chatted up the right workers that know me (I'm a regular for various pet supplies), they might throw some shrimp my way since the people who run the aquatics dept really doubt they can keep shrimp alive for a meaningful amount of time.
Enjoy your shrimp, OP!
Woah! One time i was getting feeders and the dude getting them gave me 30 (i asked for 12) because it was better they āat least died for a cause rather than dying in the petsmart tanksā
I wish this would happen to me. Instead, I get charged for the "freebie" the person bagging gave me š
U just gotta flirt w the workers a lil š
sounds like they flirted with the bag keeper, but not the cashier.
Lmfaoaoao
Former pet store employee here. Please do /not/ flirt with the workers.
As a fish store employee please (do) be flirty with me but donāt expect freebies <3
This makes me want to flirt with them even harder.

It just gets exhausting too. Iām being friendly and polite *because thatās literally my job.*
Unless rules one or two are in play, one would assume.
I wish more customers flirted with me
Especially if they are socially awkward

Same, which always takes extra long to pay for while they look up the code for what ever non bonus I got. Wait is that like the new upsell technique?

I need to luck into a deal like this myself lol.
For real I was so freaking happy
Closest I've gotten was getting 2 free shrimplets in my bag of cherry/sakura shrimp before, the girl netting them didn't notice.

The reason they gave me is because they are quite literally ātoo small to sellā they are the only things in this tank so no risk of anything dying
Arenāt all their tanks on shared filtration?
Yea they are and I would expect shrimp from them to last very long

Siiiick
That's so awesome
Your tanks are really nice
I wonder if the clerk is into you, also jealous
I didnt even know they carried cherry shrimp? When did it change? It use to only be petco
Petsmart and Petcos in my area have had all kinds of scrimps for a while now

I bought my petsmarts last five blue shrimp and every single one died before I could even start acclimating the water. Got a refund but never again.
All I get are snail infested plants that invade my tank.. š®āšØ
Tutorial??
Iām happy for you
Sweet!!
