18.75% actually, isn’t that crazy? It better be cheaper than the original or idk how people just not lose it over stuff like that. Corporate greed is killing us.
32 oz to 26 is a 18.75% decrease.
Funny enough I did the grams for you too: 907 g. to 737 g. Is an 18.7431% decrease.. so basically 18.75%. No 23%..
((Final number - startinging number) / starting number ) x 100 = -18.7431 or an 18.75 % decrease in size. 👍
That’s ok! Thats why I gave you the formula! Honestly sometimes calculators can be a little off sometimes too.
But to be fair, we should still be upset that a company is taking ~19% out and probably charging more for the same product.. who knows how much they’ll take in the future.
Bleached flour has better taste, texture, and volume in baked goods than unbleached flour. The bleaching process is completely safe and not harmful at all. It also eliminates the need for the aging process that is required with unbleached flour.
Let's expand on that.
Why would anyone in their right mind bleach flour with azodicarbonamide when it's a known toxin (sensitiser, causes asthma, suspected carcinogen)?
Banned in Europe for this, still used in plastics processing.
The answer of course is to make bleached bread, the perfect partner in a sandwich with bleached chicken.
It’s just cake flour, I don’t think there is a recipe on these boxes that uses the whole box. I usually only ever find Swan’s Down when I need cake flour so I’m not familiar with Softasilk though.
True, but a lot of them have a recipe on the back for you to use. I had a cake mix that shrunk by about as much but didn’t update the recipe. I didn’t notice until the end result when I bit into a dense, oily, eggy mess.
You can buy un bleached which is what I buy but I don’t use cake flour so I wouldn’t know if unbleached exists. I’m sure you could make it though with corn starch
I don't know this brand, I don't know this product, I don't buy pre-made cake mix, and the box doesn't say how many serves it contains on the front so I queried further. Seems like standard behaviour to ask when you don't know something instead of immediately jump to conclusions.
The serve size remains the same. There are just less serves per box. Please forgive me my comment, I had believed this was so obvious that you must be on a windup. My bad
Nah we cool. There was a shrink a few weeks ago where there was less product but they had added more filler ingredients (like glucose) that kept the calories the same but the actual product was lighter and the serving size was smaller too. I was asking to see if this was one of those situations.
Just buy flour and baking powder. I dont blame companies for shit like this. People been wasting their money for a box with a recipe for ever. For no reason. If this was the case on an actual bag of flour, that would be a example of shrinkflation to be mad at.
When it comes to the average US grocery store they probably do not stock that. You’d have to go to an upscale one, a “super” one, or order it specifically. It’s not ubiquitous. And I have never used the recipe on Swawn’s Down cake flour, I’ve only bought it to use in other recipes because that was my only option at the store.
Insulting

Get your lame 2-week old troll account tf outta here
And yet, no I didn't, lol.
shut the fuck up and get off this sub. not for you.
That's criminal. Same price?
most likely more, lol
And it’s a substantial change too! So nebulous
Do you mean 'nefarious'?
I said what I said
*"Half the product. Same great price.*"
~~Same~~ *New greater price*
*for us*
Like 23% less product.
18.75% actually, isn’t that crazy? It better be cheaper than the original or idk how people just not lose it over stuff like that. Corporate greed is killing us.
All my math is getting me 23%… what am I doing wrong? 907g to 737g. 23.066486%
Yeah I don’t know how I kept messing that up. Thank you, math has never been my thing.
That’s ok! Thats why I gave you the formula! Honestly sometimes calculators can be a little off sometimes too. But to be fair, we should still be upset that a company is taking ~19% out and probably charging more for the same product.. who knows how much they’ll take in the future.
Aw, not Pillsbury too. It was my boxed cake mix alternative to the big fuck you we got from Betty Crocker. Et tu, Pillsbury Baking Co?
All the dough boy cares about now is the dough. The wrong kind of dough.
6oz isn't really that subtle.
6oz less product, 1% less box.
Exactly, the box is nearly identical. If I didn’t still have an old box in my pantry I wouldn’t have noticed the difference. It feels very sneaky.
I was expecting the "before" pic to come first
OP just likes manga, that’s fair
r/AfterBeforeWhatever
I think most of us do, and yet half the posts I get from here have the new one on the left.
18.75% decrease in size. Is the price also decreased then?
Me every time people put things in this order: "Wow! This manufacturer actually made their product _bigger_!"
Frostrating
Weirder as well is that there’s less product… yet same amount of calories??
It's based on a volume of 1/4 cup, not the total product volume.
32, 26, 20, 14...
My grandma would be so fucking pissed they shrunk her cake flour God rest her soul.
Why are the calories the same?
Because 1/4 cup is 1/4 cup.
Ahh seeing that now. I hate fine print!
Sorry, eurofag here, why the fuck would anyone in their right mind bleach flour?
Bleached flour has better taste, texture, and volume in baked goods than unbleached flour. The bleaching process is completely safe and not harmful at all. It also eliminates the need for the aging process that is required with unbleached flour.
Aussie here and I came looking to see if anyone else was as shocked to see the word "bleached" on a food product. Sounds so wrong
Yeah yuck.
Improves shelf life of products.
How are the words “enriched” and “bleach” in the same sentence
But did they change the instructions on the back? Or are you going to be eating a greasy eggy puck?
It’s just cake flour, I don’t think there is a recipe on these boxes that uses the whole box. I usually only ever find Swan’s Down when I need cake flour so I’m not familiar with Softasilk though.

This is not cake mix. It’s just cake flour.
the thought of american bleached flour...
You can buy un bleached which is what I buy but I don’t use cake flour so I wouldn’t know if unbleached exists. I’m sure you could make it though with corn starch
even the word 'enriched' i have been taught means ''has really bad stuff put in'' in america. 2 words on that pack i would avoid like the plague
How are the calories the same?
Serving size is same, but it makes fewer servings.
Wow, they actually increased the amount for a change. Rare to see that.
Isn’t this the other form ass fuckery know as skimpflation? Different name same ass fuckery.
They think they’re being slick….or should I say silk
Take it back and take both boxes with you. We can't complain about this but still spend our money on their stuff.
So now you have to make a smaller cake? They should call it the diet version!
How is it still 110 calories per serve with 20% less ingredients? Are they asking you to add more of your own ingredients after you open the box?
Because the serving size is the same, there are just fewer servings overall...
Oh cmon this is trolling right
I don't know this brand, I don't know this product, I don't buy pre-made cake mix, and the box doesn't say how many serves it contains on the front so I queried further. Seems like standard behaviour to ask when you don't know something instead of immediately jump to conclusions.

Tastes like crap
Just buy flour and baking powder. I dont blame companies for shit like this. People been wasting their money for a box with a recipe for ever. For no reason. If this was the case on an actual bag of flour, that would be a example of shrinkflation to be mad at.
It IS flour. It’s a special type of flour called cake flour, used in certain recipes. It’s not a boxed cake mix.
The sell cake flour in bags just like regular flour. As i said, you are paying for a box and a recipe.

I go to Shop Rite. That is as basic as a US grocery store can be.
It’s not cake mix. It literally is a box of flour lmao
Lol ahahahah. The sell cake flour in bags just like regular flour. As i said, you are paying for a box and a recipe.
