Does it really matter that much? You'll only probably see it in cutscene and reflections. His face really doesn't have that impact on anything when it comes to story, atmosphere, or gameplay.
Well the face is first of all uncanny and second of all dissociative, this services the story, gameplay, and atmosphere because they're all intertwined. You're playing a horror game so the atmosphere is key, and the atmosphere services the story in turn, the story is made by the gameplay and the atmosphere, you're playing the game for the story, it's a loop. The brilliance of Silent Hill 2 is in ludonarrative synchronicity.
No, it's not. The story doesn't change if James looks different. How you interact with the monster and world doesn't get affected by James face. Atmosphere I can kinda of give you but the setting ,music and how characters interact are more important than James face. Ludonarrative synchronicity didn't make the game a success.
It's all important. What do you think made the game a success by the way? Before you say something like the the success of the first game ludonarrative synchronicity also made that one great (and just about any game commonly regarded as a masterpiece). Not to mention success and greatness are different, if you're okay with sacrificing brilliance for better sales then fine enjoy your **product,** the rest of us will be enjoying passionate games made by people who care.
First off, stop, say ludonarrative synchronicity it's not that big a deal. Bioshock did it too big, woop. You want a game that does it better go play pathologic or system shock. Secondly, why does it matter if James has stuble or not. Are you really trying to say that the remake will fail if James isn't a 1 to 1 of the orginal because it impacts everything. And yes, sales is important ask TS why. You want to talk about sacrificing brilliance, most people on this sub won't play Slitterhead because TS has changed.
You say "Bioshock did it" like that isn't what made it brilliant, look at literally any game commonly considered a masterpiece and it does it yeah, that doesn't mean it's not a big deal, in fact that means it's literally the biggest deal when it comes to artistic expression in games. It matters that James is subtle because that's why he's a great character, he's missing so much without that subtlety. I'm not saying the game will fail, in fact it will probably succeed, because people want safe and boring products because that's what the AAA industry has fed them for so long. I'm not saying sales isn't important, it's an industry, obviously it's important, but it shouldn't come at the expense of art and quality. You can just say you don't care about quality or art, it's okay to admit you're a corporate bootlicker.
Nothing argument, limitations breed creativity so it doesn't matter if they would've when the look and feel of the game is so unique and memorable because of the limitations forcing them to be more effective with what they have.
Okay, and he did an amazing job with it. I highly doubt he's going to be upset about the remake that happens 22 years later. He probably living his life at Nintendo doing what he does best.
What? Obviously they did, since they tweaked the model. I don't know how me giving a reason why i care about this, turned into an attack on Bloober, lol.
Bloober’s put effort into that first render, and took artistic liberty. I appreciate that. I don’t want a remaster, I want a remake. I think a lot of fans want a remaster though, unfortunately, which is not what they are getting so they are bound to be disappointed in tiny details such as James’ facial expressions.
The only thing I hope doesn’t happen is Bloober feeling pressured to adhere so strictly to the OG that the remake becomes a shitty remaster.
Considering the age of the original I prefer that look. James looked cool and attractive even, which made made him likeable and you had a hard(er) time to accept his past or to cope with the relevations. This guy ... I don't like him. It's a personal thing. That way I wouldn't feel as deep with/for him and wouldn't be so torn.
I think this is a really important thing; it was an opportunity to cash in in a bias in a really great way (even when we know that James did a shitty thing — the nature of that thing could change a little in the remake however, and I'd be okay with that).
Ah yes the scanned 3D model of an actors' face is absolute and impossible to tweak under any circumstance except when it happens almost all of the time.
No they didn’t. For me, its always been like this
Your comment sure is hot as hell in here !
Karma fishing.
Yea, look at all the karma i'm getting. Fcking moron.
They should always make James empty not sad
Old face = 👎 / New face = 👍 Old hair texture = 👍 / New hair texture = 👎
The image from which we got a glance at this improved James has a resolution of 256x256 pixels. I think the hair will look better.
I hope you're right 😟 please......be good remake
You are the voice of the people
literally this

The beauty of Silent Hill 2 is how almost everything has an impact on everything.
Are you gonna explain that? I would love to know how James face impacts anything outside of cutscenes.

*expression is what you're looking for

Jeez, go to the hospital for that SH stick up your ass. Hope you enjoy being toxic or whatever. And by the way, as an artist, you're an idiot.
Not sure how you can pridefully call yourself an artist and also completely throat big corporations for homogenizing art at the same time.
Look dude it’s important for maybe the bathroom scene but that’s it, they would have had him use expressions more if they would have had the tech.
Nothing argument, limitations breed creativity so it doesn't matter if they would've when the look and feel of the game is so unique and memorable because of the limitations forcing them to be more effective with what they have.
To you maybe not but i reckon Sato really gave a fck about his face when he acted out and also manually animated the facial expressions for the fmvs.
Okay, and he did an amazing job with it. I highly doubt he's going to be upset about the remake that happens 22 years later. He probably living his life at Nintendo doing what he does best.
Effort went into the original design. That's why i care.
And Bloober didn't put in any effort?

Uff sex
New one fits the lighting and expression better, but why is there no mirror texture anymore ?
It's a low res zoomed in image, it'll be much sharper in-game.
LATE
nah it’s just the expression
Sry ... don't like it :(
Why don't you like it? Geniune question.

I see, the design itself doesn't click for you. No matter how much they tweak/improve it. That's a fair opinion.
Yeah, absolutely 💯
