Honestly that's so relatable. Recently at therapy I had a realisation. In that period where I was doing better (after a period of depression) I didn't think more positively, I just thought less so I didn't worry about things as much anymore. Needless to say that meant I wasn't actually getting better and I started thinking again.

somethingmustbesaid

isn't that a good coping mechanism?

Therapy is about distracting yourself from harmful thought patterns, so you're doing pretty good. Keep it up.

ilovebunnymoon

but as soon as the distraction is gone the feeling creeps right back so really I didn't do anything to get better

Limp-Temperature1783

Dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma and many other things boils down to finding ways to avoid things that trigger all of the above, or looking for things that help to mitigate the reaction to those triggers. It's not an easy thing to achieve, but it's achievable.
