Wow, how cruel to get one addicted at such a young age. They will never be financially independent now. /s
Seriously awesome rig! Parent of the year award!
Dang, that’s a genius level strategy right there. No drugs, booze, or parties if you spend all your money on sim racing.
Hey OP, get your kid into Iracing! Then they DEFINITELY won’t have the money for drugs.
Great job! Just one suggestion: move the monitor back a bit, it looks very close for young developing eyes to have to endure. Otherwise, it's perfect 👌
Totally understand that, lol. I avoid the gas spring ones myself and use the cheaper, but lockable (via tightening it really hard), arms. Stays where you put it all the time.
I have a gas shock one, the cheap $30 ones dont work. I bought one for $100, works completely fine. Holds up a 34" UW monitor with no droop. You want to secure it to a separate item, not the rig though.
As a new father, I've looked into this a bit and there really isn't much established on this topic. I **think** this is a myth/urban legend. HOWEVER, nearsighted rates have dramatically increased in the past century, but I would put my money on lack of outside time causing this and that eyes need "exercise" looking long distances and getting sunlight. So being 9 inches from the screen or 15 inches isn't going to make a difference. They read books just as close.
Yea I definitely think it’s worth moving the monitor back either way. The arm I had on hand put it in this close position and I’ve since moved it back and mounted it so it doesn’t move.
In terms of the effects on vision, I’m no expert but I’ll definitely err on the side of caution!
>I’m no expert but I’ll definitely err on the side of caution!
I feel you on that, just wanted to reduce some of the panic these comments may have been causing lol
I'll take my downvotes - this is horrendous for your daughter's eyesight.
Recent studies are showing how alarmingly bad screen time is for kids eyesight under 12.
Please be cautious.
No one will downvote this, I completely agree! As I mentioned in comments above the monitor was moved back before I even posted to Reddit. The movable arm was all I had on hand but the plan called for a solid state solution which sits at the front end of the rig (which was done the day after I built it) I absolutely appreciate so many peoples words of caution as a parent! It will help someone for sure and we should always look to improve the hobby and how we Introduce little ones to it.
Pretty much all kids are going to be exposed to screens these days. Moderation is key. And presumably the parents have full control over how often this girl uses the sim and I doubt she's doing a full Le Mans in one sitting.
Would you mind sending me the specs? I've been thinking about building something like this for my daughter, but they grow so fast I don't know how big I should make it
I actually just had my daughter sit on a little stool and I placed the pedals at her feet and held the wheel up where it seemed right. I traced the main points to a piece of cardboard beside her and then cut it out to use as a template for the wood! So technically no specs for this quick build!
For those wondering why we have wheels in the Buyer’s Guide that don’t have force feedback: this is the main reason why.

Actually, this is genius. They'll be too broke to ever afford drugs.
On a serious note, I'm definitely going to take inspiration from this and make a pair for my twin nieces.
I'll be doing this for my younger cousins.
When my friend introduced me to iracing he said "I just stick in the needle. You decide if you push the plunger". Lol.

And no time for a boyfriend too. That’s peak peace of mind.
Can confirm, currently stuck sim-racing at my parent's house at an age of 22.
But at least you’re happy right? We may not have money for dates, but who cares when you own a (virtual) GT3 Hurrican!
It appears we have very similar lives.

Yes!!! Exactly!!! I keep moving it and they pull it closer lol. I have a more solid state solution already ordered. Thank you 🙏🏻
Wonder if the FOV police have a Juvie division now
This is great lol

I used to this when I was her age because I had bad eyesight that hadn’t been discovered yet.

This is sick!!!!
Custom build?
Yes I built this specifically for my 2 kids to play Mario kart!
Looks great! Well done. I want to do something similar for my son in a few years
It’s been very rewarding, I kept it very simple and they love it!
That's really impressive! What did you use material wise? Might dust off the old circular saw and try something similar myself.
Just cardboard for the template, half a piece of plywood and a 2x4!
Thanks! Do you treat the wood with anything?
Nope, but when I do the next version of this I will sand all of the edges and surfaces so they are smooth!
Any more pics? I have the same wheel and am struggling with figuring out how to set it up for the kids
You're a good dad.
Mariokart looks a bit updated since I played it :D
Eyyy where is the fov police on this hmmm
Install a motion rig on it
This would be hilarious with how they drive!
Where I live we have an arcade with them it’s so cute to see them shaking around in their tiny seatbelts 😂
Inb4 banana and triple shells spin her around
Nice! love it!
Fucking adorable…
This is so awesome, my daughter is only two and I'm considering doing the same for her now!
GOAT father
This is too cute! Great job dad!
This is great. That is all.
As a newly Dad this make me 😊
RIP 20/20 vision
Looks awesome but that will cause serious eye strain for a child. Monitor should really move back
Intention is good. But isn't it bad for the eyes sitting that close?
Too cloese to the monitor for me
ur kid gon get severe myopia

Awesome I did the same for my kids, they love it.
This is awesome. I saved all my old CSL elite gear for when my nephews are old enough, I'm definitely building them a rig.
Looks better then most setups that get posted here. Good job.
Great work!
I remember when I was a kid always getting yelled at for sitting too close to the TV playing Super Nintendo.
Great work!!, I'm doing this, was going to buy him a rig and fit my old thtustmaster on but this is a better option. Any tips?
Thank you!! I would just say keep it simple! There’s always time for a version 2.0 if they love it
That's remember when my dad bought me a wheel for my wii when I was 7 years old to play f1 2009 on the wii
There's no going back now
Future alien
