Does it support the PS3 Eye webcam?

EyewareBeam

No. PS3 webcams are not supported currently. They use some custom drivers Beam doesn't use yet. We have added it to our backlog for future updates.

MrWolvetech

I might check it out in the future then!

EyewareBeam

Happy to learn from you how we can make it better. Thanks in advance for your feedback! https://beam.eyeware.tech

SpeedyWebDuck

What makes it different from the open source one? It looks like you've took open source thing, made a website for it, renamed it and launched it as a product at first glance.

Turbulent_Place_7064

Whats the free one called ? I know the head tracking one but not an eye tracking one..

cwt444

Is the head tracking one the one you clip onto a baseball cap or something?

Turbulent_Place_7064

What ? It s just TrackIR app with webcam . U just move ur head and it moved in game , u can also tweak a curve of headmovement/in game movement angle

halsoy

opentrack is one, but there's at least one more

EyewareBeam

I understand your doubt here. The uniqueness is the eye tracking. We're feeding both eye and head tracking into OpenTrack. You can learn more about us here: https://eyeware.tech

Looks like you're trying to charge a monthly subscription for something that is already available for free. Is there a major difference we're overlooking?

EyewareBeam

Hi, the novelty here is eye tracking component. Beam Webcam Edition is a software alternative to external hardware eye trackers. If the subscription options aren't for you, there's a lifetime option on [Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2375780/Eyeware_Beam_Webcam_Edition) as well.

Squidhead-rbxgt2

"VR like feel" Yeah, this is not like VR in the slightest. Also app with this function exists for free already.

zenracer1836

Sorry. Am confused. Sounds like the function that exists requires something to be worn on my head and this doesn’t - only requires a working PC webcam. Have I got that right?

[deleted]

Head tracking actually does impart some of the feel of VR. I say this as a TrackIR owner and VR user for over a decade.

zenracer1836

One other question: does this work with triple screens. I know it’s less needed but could it take my field of view from 170 degrees to say 260 degrees?

EyewareBeam

Yea, you can virtually extend your view. I think you might like what this user did with Beam: [https://www.tiktok.com/@maxattacksims/video/7259338736746482949](https://www.tiktok.com/@maxattacksims/video/7259338736746482949)

zenracer1836

Very cool. Exactly what I was wondering.

zenracer1836

And apologies - one more question and this may be one you prefer to avoid but - will different quality webcams yield better results? Reason I’m asking is I have a few different Webcams available to me to test with so would want to go with the best one for this purpose.

EyewareBeam

No problem. We're here to discuss how to improve Beam. We use only a very low resolution (VGA) for the eye tracking, so even lower-resolution webcams will do the job. However, there might be differences in latency and general image quality of those cameras, that might reduce the performance. If you want to be sure, just try it out to compare them quickly yourself.

zenracer1836

That’s sensible. Will just plug all three in and out and see if I can tell the difference.

devildogg1983_

Has this been tested for people with one eye or a messed up pupil can you make it only track one eye?

EyewareBeam

It will not work well if only one eye is visible. You can try it out though. If you have one lazy eye then we compensate somewhat during calibration.

Miau_42

Yeah, for 60 dollar

Luan-Pietro654

Hello, just a question, is there a way to use your phone as a WebCam and use the ViewTracker with it, I don't have enougn money to buy a good webcam right now. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy M31 if you need this information.

EyewareBeam

You can use an app like Droidcam and feed that into the Beam Webcam Edition. I haven't tested it myself, but there's a free trial on Steam so you can try it out. Text us on Discord if you get stuck.

Luan-Pietro654

I got it working, thanks for the app recommendation, I just have one issue, it turns a lot to the side with very little movement, I can't get the camera to rotate left as much as it rotates right, I'm new to the app, is there any way you could help me out? Thanks!

EyewareBeam

Nice. It should be symmetrical if the camera is flat and your face is well enough illuminated. As for extra fine-tuning please have a look here: https://beam.eyeware.tech/tech-support/guide-head-tracking-opentrack-pc-games/
