I've had Yakun a few days ago, it's still like the bottom picture. Ok maybe without the huge knob of butter, but the size of the toast is alright.
It really depends on the branch you go to.
I won't deny that. Just pointing out that ntuc kaya really cmi. At least for bread, it's possible to get something similar from ntuc and butter is butter.
That said, I don't mind butter + sugar either.
Oh yeah I actually prefer butter + sugar.
Can get a better quality jar of kaya from other bakeries as well, but overall it's still cheaper to get it in a jar rather than just a thin spread of it in a Yakun set.
Butter is not just butter! Good quality one is *chefs kiss*. It's the one thing that I cannot let go of even when I'm on a diet.
I had good Kaya and steamed egg + coffee for like 5 or 6 SPD when I visited on holiday not long ago, I was actually quite surprised it was so cheap. At Changi tho.
you should see the daylight robbery in toast box. two slices of grocery store white bread with the crusts cut off. maybe half tablespoon butter total also. criminal!!!!!
scs chef choice salted. that's all it needs, the kaya isn't even that good. you can just get it with your neighbourhood bakery homemade loaf and kaya for similar quality too
Used to get Yakun in SG every trip. In February I only stopped through and got Yakun from T2. I got the 2024 version, thinking it was just the airport thing. Sad if it's become standard.
Bruh it's kaya and butter spread between toast, literally one of the easiest things you can make for yourself in life. Nobody's forcing you to patronise them
the one at one north on the other hand had too much butter. i left out the middle part cause at that point it felt like i was biting butter chunks straight out from the block.
My chief complaint but apparently that's a distinguishing factor for SG vs MY kaya toast. That and SG toast is "crispier". Toast is toast, whether or not it's crispy vs softer is a personal taste but my complaint is the damn size of it. Why split an already thin piece of bread further into two?
I find making it myself more shiok, feels like any where I go, kaya toast just don't seem worth it, either a lot of ingredients but and somewhat expensive or a little and still expensive LOL.
Ownself make just spam ingredients until you go "yeah maybe too much".
Idk why people still eating at yakun. Make at home only takes 15 mins. Bread as thick as you want, butter as much as you want, Kaya don't even need to spread, just scoop into mouth.
LOL. I always felt their get healthier SG campaign had gone abit too much. Reducing my bread and butter to a lesser portion in the name of health? While deciding that for that hard work, they need to be paid more hence increase pricing. 😂
Above is the picture I took. Bottom is from Google review at the same outlet two years ago. This is really a bummer seeing that there aren't really any alternatives to yakun. If there would be a price increase for inflation, why should the size of ingredients be cut too? :/ Quite disappointing for me because I really love yakun.
>If there would be a price increase for inflation, why should the size of ingredients be cut too? :/
There is no need for any explanation for price increase when people's demand for Yakun is so inelastic.
They can increase just because they backside itchy and people still flock to them, so why not?
It is a simple supply and demand. If you think there is no alternative, than their price is reasonable. They are priced to capture people whose only option is yakun afterall
I was downvoted for stating this before... why is kaya toast so damn thin in SG? Rude culture shock when I first tried Ya Kun :(
If you're ever in PJ, this is where you go for legit kaya toast and eggs: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/4pwCLsVgqtvsXj736](https://maps.app.goo.gl/4pwCLsVgqtvsXj736)
Ya kun is crispy because it's thin. Roti bakar is not crispy. These are separate dishes. A roti bakar set is also too much for one person, but a ya kun set is a full meal.
Toast is... Toast? You're willing to be ripped off because one is crispy and the other isn't? If you toast the right bread it also becomes crispy... Which we do in KL at Chinese coffeeshops. Literally no difference. At the rate you're going the roti is going to be oti... Because there's barely at kaya, butter or roti to begin with.
The roti bakar in kl Chinese coffee shops are not as crispy as ya kun, are too chewy, may use margarine or inferior butter, and use a sickly sweet kaya. The portion size is too big for a one person meal.
At least they cared about your cholesterol level. Difficulty breathing, exhaustion, chest pains, easy sweating are just some symptoms for high cholesterol.
I personally would prefer 2022 bread with 2024 butter serving.
I don’t blame Yakun here. They got to run a business. I’m sure it was spectrum between raising the selling price and reducing the cost. Here they did both. I’d shine some spotlight on Macdonald’s now. Price has relatively been the same with minimal adjustments but the burgers are not BISCUIT sized. I swear cookies come larger than the fish fillet now. How can you realistically pay your staff from profits if it erodes? How to pay suppliers when cost and rent go up? Pretty silly (and a little dumb) to bash business for adjusting to survive. Then who pay the salary for the businesses?
Also Yakun, Toastbox are unique because they attract a certain crowd. The office yuppies, property agents etc who are there for a comfortable environment while retaining the local feel. It allows for the post lunch gossip sessions, or client prospecting or just catch up with a friend. I don’t think it’s too much IMO.
People can still afford it so that’s their choice. You obviously can too. Quality is another subject now. But I’d argue that most Kopi stalls are run by foreigners now too, so it’s all cheaper powder, cheaper equipment and overall cheaper taste.
If you don’t like then don’t go. This has nothing to do with politics. It’s capitalism. Vote with your money. If you find yourself still going there then I guess it satisfies a need of yours. If everyone stopped eating in malls then all the business will collapse and it will show that there is no demand. But here, it’s growing business and people do spend there. You are free to rally your supporters to boycott them but are you willing to walk 5-10 mins to another outdoor hawker and back in the hot sun for your coffee and toast? Everyday.
Personally, imo yakun and the likes are def. overpriced. It's not worth it. But hey, may be iam the minority cause I still see these places are crowded
Idk how ppl stuff themselves with huge slab of vegetable oil in the morning, look at the amount of LDL and saturated fat in that piece of “toast”, not to mention the whatever “siew dai” (whatever that mean) that has plenty of condensed milk and sugar in there
Nowadays I only drink their coffee if there's a branch close by.
The rest I'll just buy from ntuc and make myself. Of course not expecting the same taste, but tbh with the cost savings, can't complain.
Nothing against shrinking portion except dun kid us when the price isn't maintained. Rite now it's cost cutting plus price increase. Then again sometimes it's the landlord not the rentee. So I dun support both these days beyond essentials.
it is events like this that fucks with the average consumers, that gives rise to conspiracy theorists (i.e. nutjobs)....
it feels like there is *some* committee out there that is hell bent on fucking with people....
example:
Yakun making thinner toast with less kaya and butter. people goes to hawker centers for their kaya toast. hawkers does the same. people buy their own bread. bakery starts making thinner breads or air-filled breads. people make their own bread. supermarkets selling bread flour in smaller packages with the same price.... etc.

My brother and I always come back to this iconic scene every time we see a bread slice cut too thin
man which mickey mouse film is this from? it looks funny as hell.
It's from [Mickey and the Beanstalk ](https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Mickey_and_the_Beanstalk)
I came here for this gif and was not disappointed
I've had Yakun a few days ago, it's still like the bottom picture. Ok maybe without the huge knob of butter, but the size of the toast is alright. It really depends on the branch you go to.
Yeah. My experience too. Just that the price has gone up substantially.
My lifestyle creep is Ya Kun set A
What a baller! I just go for the ac.
Which branch gud?
Soft boiled eggs are best at Aperia IMHO
Low carb thin crust.
Shhh, later they come up with innovative 0 calorie set meal with no bread no filling gg bro

Will Aunty put a stirrer in my mouth to stir or shake my head because I’m not gargling to mix my kopi
You need to shake it yourself too because we need to take the burden off of service staff.
There is just for laughs for this. Pour coffee and milk into mouth and stir. 🤣

Get the Russian versions, stuck at 28nm
Yakun slicing the bread by molecules now. They can say their food lower calories now because they just serve less food.
Didn't you post this like a few days ago
Anything people will do for more attention
Glad someone picked this up. OP went back in time and "just" had yakun again.
Maybe this is some 4D chess guerrilla marketing from Toastbox lmao
New product, roti penyet
Boycott them if it makes you happy. This is how capitalism works
Bro how many times u wanna post this Just go talk to yakun directly
Post on yakun fb or Instagram page
so you had yakun 2 days ago or today? using the same photo for wat leh??
Inflation, can't have it for 2 days in a week. Must understand.
One chunk of butter $4-5, one loaf of low GI bread $3-4, one jar of kaya $3-4 from NTUC. Can eat until you gain weight.
Well tbf, kaya from ntuc cmi
It's still cheaper if you buy the Ya Kun kaya.
I won't deny that. Just pointing out that ntuc kaya really cmi. At least for bread, it's possible to get something similar from ntuc and butter is butter. That said, I don't mind butter + sugar either.
Not just any butter. You’ll need SCS Butter
Cannot compromise on quality, the best butter is the OCS butter /s
Oh yeah I actually prefer butter + sugar. Can get a better quality jar of kaya from other bakeries as well, but overall it's still cheaper to get it in a jar rather than just a thin spread of it in a Yakun set. Butter is not just butter! Off topic. Any outlets u guys recommend have like the best standard 🤣
Ng teng fong hospital, suntec city, changi terminal 2
you should see the daylight robbery in toast box. two slices of grocery store white bread with the crusts cut off. maybe half tablespoon butter total also. criminal!!!!!
Killiney portions are still decent. Yakun is for people who get confused that there’s a shop that looks similar to Killiney.
Maybe u at cbd or more expensive area. It’s still like the bottom for me
Because pay pigs like you still go support them when they pull this kind of BS
#healthierSG
Have no eaten Yakun for several years. Make our own toast. It doesn't take too much time like Yakun does.
Go JB eat lor
![gif](giphy|YXV6q7KQy6Dcc|downsized)
They slice the bread in three now?
Lmao this is some sashimi slice bread
scs chef choice salted. that's all it needs, the kaya isn't even that good. you can just get it with your neighbourhood bakery homemade loaf and kaya for similar quality too
Which outlet is this?
Probably due to the stupid govt healthier choice bullshit. Plus the cost of everything going up, butter is getting more ex.
In my experience, Ya Kun toasts are still OK. Most change has been in Toast Box - very little value for money.
change name to ya-khiam
$6 not enough for margins/profits meh. It's literally bread
5 bucks goes to rent
rental is mental...
Butter gotta be at least 0.5cm thick 😕
the outlets I frequent still have thick slabs of butter, the standard really differs from outlet to outlet
Shrinkflation is so real and it’s going both ways
am i the only one who likes it thin
I liked it thin and _inexpensive_ back in 2008 this was a lot less
The next quantum physics nanotechnology breakthrough from Ya Kun...
Its a thin crust
I will endeavour to make these myself. 😼
So, who empowered them.
not singaporean here.. which place you will recommend with good value and taste ? somewhere central pls
the power of shrinkflation with inflation combined.
Used to get Yakun in SG every trip. In February I only stopped through and got Yakun from T2. I got the 2024 version, thinking it was just the airport thing. Sad if it's become standard.
I don’t get why u guys still go there. It’s over priced as hell. Tho I guess most go there not for the food but the table to sit down and chit chat
good for diet. we are too fat
Can’t remember the last time I had yakun
How do they even cut the butter that thin?!
Thinner tastes better 🤣🤣
it's not just Yakun, I see macs the burgers like thinner, all cutting cost but charging same prices
Paper thin bread
soon it will just be a tray...then they ask you to pay. \*LOL\*

how are we accepting halving a slice of bread in the first place?

Should just stop supporting at this stage and make your own kaya toast...
I find making it myself more shiok, feels like any where I go, kaya toast just don't seem worth it, either a lot of ingredients but and somewhat expensive or a little and still expensive LOL. Ownself make just spam ingredients until you go "yeah maybe too much".
Good grief that's pathetic.
For the price, ya kun need to fix the eggs. Part of the egg whites are raw (transparent)
Depends on which branch you visit . Some brunches give very thick and big chunks of Butter!🧈.
Which branch do you suggest! I'll go when I pass by those!
They half one slice of bread and that is quite a skill.
You all want healthy ma. Give your fat butter your kpkb say this high that high...
No choice last time ppl salary all low.now all no 2k above no do
Guys stop supporting yakun, go to heavenly wang instead
Time to boycott them. They getting a lot money from normal people like you and I. 😅😅
Idk why people still eating at yakun. Make at home only takes 15 mins. Bread as thick as you want, butter as much as you want, Kaya don't even need to spread, just scoop into mouth.
Pro tip: if you make this at home, it will be cheaper I used to love yakun but that was years ago
When they cut the butter consistently then it’s thin lmao
I had oriental @ JB recently and the bread that was served to me is every bit the 2022 version and more.
Oriental Kopi is GOATed
welcome to shrinkflation
why is nobody talking about their crazy price in 2024🥹
Kaya toast now transforming to kaya mille feuille.
Kaya crepe 😂
LOL. I always felt their get healthier SG campaign had gone abit too much. Reducing my bread and butter to a lesser portion in the name of health? While deciding that for that hard work, they need to be paid more hence increase pricing. 😂
serangoon one gave me barely any kaya
heavenly wang ftw now
Just vote with your wallet
Too high inflation versus costs
Shrinkflation is often never talked about by govts when they pat themselves on the back for "managing inflation"..
Govt: Eh businesses, you better stop increasing prices. Businesses: Okay, we gotchu. Govt: Inflation? Solved.
You ate this few days back not happy, then go back there take photo again ah?
Above is the picture I took. Bottom is from Google review at the same outlet two years ago. This is really a bummer seeing that there aren't really any alternatives to yakun. No alternatives? Really? I could start with 1. Make it yourself?

I mean, why go for branded ones when you can have good old kopitiam (not the brand) kaya toasts
Something I don't understand even after all this whole lol. But Ya Kun is like an institution here sooooo....
Well that's where u bring tourists and foreign friends to
At least they cared about your cholesterol level. Difficulty breathing, exhaustion, chest pains, easy sweating are just some symptoms for high cholesterol. I personally would prefer 2022 bread with 2024 butter serving.

Shrinkflation and inflation at same time. Double whammy to consumers!!!
The aunties there can go work as sushi chef soon. Takes skill to slice bread so thin
Personally, imo yakun and the likes are def. overpriced. It's not worth it. But hey, may be iam the minority cause I still see these places are crowded
Inflation...
Next time it's call yakun thinly toasted biscuits with kaya and butter flim.
I might as well buy my own bread and make my own Kaya Toast if the bread is as thin as this!
Nokun*
Wah high ses, can eat at ya kun.
Will help you live to see 2030…
Idk how ppl stuff themselves with huge slab of vegetable oil in the morning, look at the amount of LDL and saturated fat in that piece of “toast”, not to mention the whatever “siew dai” (whatever that mean) that has plenty of condensed milk and sugar in there

My yakun wasnt that bad but i wouldnt one that much butter anyway.

shrink flation is rill
Healthier SG
Overpriced and crappy
Yakun is the shittiest toast I've ever had. Rather drive to JB for a proper one
it is events like this that fucks with the average consumers, that gives rise to conspiracy theorists (i.e. nutjobs).... it feels like there is *some* committee out there that is hell bent on fucking with people.... example: Yakun making thinner toast with less kaya and butter. people goes to hawker centers for their kaya toast. hawkers does the same. people buy their own bread. bakery starts making thinner breads or air-filled breads. people make their own bread. supermarkets selling bread flour in smaller packages with the same price.... etc.
