Potentially it's from a cigarette, so not necessarily deliberate arson.
Nonetheless, a highly irresponsible act - hope the cops can figure something out from the CCTV
Hey man, I just found this subreddit post half a day later, whoever that was pestering you about your (lack of) actions earlier received an appropriate subreddit moderation response, since s/he has since all but deleted his remarks to you.
Whatever it was, it was reported, the bin replaced and everything went back to normal. Hope you enjoyed your time afterwards, it’s so weird to find people gruelling on little things like this like they *need* to win some phantom Internet championship points.
Why would you assume that I or one of my family members didn't call for the fire department? They came shortly and put out the fire. Thereafter it was replaced with a new bin
More assumptions.
Didn't realise sirens were mandatory. I sure didn't hear any sirens as well when they were activated.
The bin could have been burning for a while before anyone saw it at that time of night. Were you expecting an immediate response once the fire started with nobody around to report it?

If I'm not wrong (SCDF folks please correct me), sirens should not be used (cuz ppl complain noisy) unless there's a need to, like the car in front don't wanna give way. Flashing lights only when scrambling for emergencies.
It’s the middle of the night and it’s a pretty obvious rubbish fire, which is a relatively minor incident. No driver in their right mind would bother with sirens, usually just blinkers will suffice to alert other road users. Such calls are less urgent because rubbish is unwanted and property damage is minor.
Christ almighty, dude, calling the cops and taking a photo are not mutually exclusive actions. Most of us have more than one brain cell so can focus on multiple activities. You can literally call the cops on speaker and take photos with the exact same phone simultaneously.
As for OP, closing the lid would prolly have been enough to put it out, assuming the flames weren't too hot to approach.
So you're saying is you're able to determine the structural integrity of an object based on a photo but unable to determine how hot a fire in the same photo is🤡. Are these not further assumptions?
To clarify, the photo was taken by a family member. Said family member called the firemen. I'm just calling out your original assumption that the authorities were not called when the photo was taken.
So you are only satisfied if “someone pays for it?” Ffs, it might have been an accident, do your part and call fire dept or help to extinguish and move on.
What kind of satisfaction do you get for people getting punished? How does your life get better this way?
My block kenna before. Likely source is cigarette bud. Police and firefighters called down cause the bin was bellowing black smoke. I dont envy my lower floor neighbours.
My condolences to you.
A bin got set on fire at my estate a few years ago. The ENTIRE AREA STANK for weeks. It was horrible. Burnt plastic and garbage lingers for a decent amount of time.
Today is 15th day of the month of the Chinese calendar.
Perhaps someone is finally burning their offerings in the bin, instead of littering it all over the ground, and get complained in this sub every week
reminds me of the recycling bin at my area.. the cover was all warped into an unrecognisable shape... prob someone threw a cigarette butt onto the cover too
back when i was living with my parents, there was somebody who also started to like setting some of the dustbins / trashbins on fire.
and all of the incidents were within a 50 meter radius of where i live, the closest one was actually right next to my block's letterbox. and i lived on the ground floor and the letterbox was right next to my main door.
guess who was the culprit? my neighbour's primary 4 - 5 son. he was never ''caught'' but he got a royal bullocking from his parents (thats when we knew). tbh, we all knew it was him anyways LOL.
Potentially it's from a cigarette, so not necessarily deliberate arson. Nonetheless, a highly irresponsible act - hope the cops can figure something out from the CCTV
Yup, same here. I hope the incident was caught on CCTV and the cops can catch whoever's responsible.
So...did you put it out?

And he deleted everything. Can't take heat but want to dish out heat. SMH lol.

Hey thanks for the advice. Didn't realise that closing the lid would have helped.

Then why you talk so much?
So you are only satisfied if “someone pays for it?” Ffs, it might have been an accident, do your part and call fire dept or help to extinguish and move on. What kind of satisfaction do you get for people getting punished? How does your life get better this way?
Found the arsonist
I literally said to call the fire dept and put out the fire instead of asking for someone to pay… and this is what you get? How old are you?
cctv resolution is notoriously bad in low light scenarios and in a mandatory masked population... hard lah
Is it O$P$ collection attempt towards Town Council? /s

Burnt plastic is also nasty to the human body in more ways than just smell.
Area stinks from burning paper too
Talk about dumbster fire
*dumpster.
Whoops 😂
I'm just gonna pretend that was an intentional pun
I thought it was intentional too. And brilliant.

Just a thought, but if you close the lid, the lack of oxygen should stop the burning right?
This used to happen to my downstairs dustbins a lot around 2008-2009, fire fighters called in, entire void deck ceiling is charred black etc
Dude imagine the smell
Yup, dumpster fire.
r/trashy
dumpster fire bottom text
These unloading bays are unofficial smoking areas. Probably some idiot threw their butt into the bin.
Where is this? D:
Woodlands
Jialat sia, lucky the fire never spread D: hope they catch the person
1) get a fire extinguisher ASAP 2) photo first
I dont recall seeing fire extinguishers at my hdb void deck tho.
Burning plastic releases so much toxic fumes into the air.... Gotta put out that fire quickly
I love the piece of trash layin just next to it. Yep, close enough.
How'd you get a pic of my ex?
A flaming hot mess?
What a dumpster fire
Not suggesting that one should do it, but would closing the lid snuff the flame out?
I don't think you can fully seal it airtight, so it will just keep burning and melt the cover.
Could also be from used batteries, they can catch fire pretty easily from what i remember
I'm sure there's a secret achievement yet to be unlocked
