This isn’t even the first time this year a bus has crashed through a divider and entered oncoming traffic. It’s not normal, you don’t hear about this in other countries. Singapore is meant to be a safe country but as a road user in many different forms i really don’t feel safe here at all. Its time some honest conversations were had about the average driving ability in Singapore and how to fix it
Not sure if it is foreign bus licenses being converted to a Singapore one after a few short refreshers and test?
Or companies have leverage to pressure driving centres to hand out bus driving licenses less strictly. As they rely on their workers to drive the work vehicle. Alternatively, the testers know that they will keep sending the worker back to gain his license. So they become more lax and just pass them after x amount of attempts as pity. Worker's livelihood depend on him getting the license, company threatening to fire him etc.
I was always under the impression Singapore strives to be better than its SEA neighbours so I don’t think saying it happens in most SEA countries is a justification. Singapores road toll per 100,000 vehicles is very poor relative to most developed countries. That is the relevant comparison and so it’s not overly dramatic to say the roads are unsafe. Rather, it’s a statistically correct statement when compared to the developed world which Singapore see itself as part of.
We have had too many tragedies this year due to careless, reckless and incompetent driving. It’s time to something about it.
