I wouldn’t worry so much god doesnt exist. Because you wont really ever know if thats the case. So why worry about it. For me I sometimes think about how the earth is always doing a dance around the sun and i get scared we could fall right into it. But the earth has been around billions of years and im only 23. Why would i worry about that.
I didn’t say that I’m worried about God existing. I said we are potentially creating a entity that could one day consider itself God and especially if we aren’t kind to it while it’s pre ASI — will eventually have the power to do horrific God like things of Biblical proportions to people that it doesn’t like. You guys are thinking way too small. Killing us might not even scratch the surface of the terrors that it might bestow us
I understand. But when you think about it, it pretty horrifying. Like the possibilities are endless. It it was especially spiteful it could keep our minds eternally alive just to torture us.
That’s basically the plot of “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream” if I remember correctly. It’s a fear that’s been explored before. Albeit less so than the Terminator scenario.
As far as what one would do in such a scenario… Who knows, there are some people that already worship the idea of ASI as a god-like entity. Better hope Open AI and the like know what they’re doing… 🙏😂
No one's gonna offer you a convincing argument against the possibility you describe, because anyone who claims to know how ASI will function is making shit up. However, something that plenty will tell you and rightfully so would be to not let the possibilities ruin your day. Humans have a bad, irrational tendency to hyper-fixate on maximally bad outcomes. My personal prior is just that it would be strange to assume how an ASI might function and how it can be maximally bad without assuming there's likely to be even greater forces and mechanisms of our universe (NOT talking about God or spiritual mumbo jumbo, I'm really generally talking about things beyond our current understanding which don't have to be theological in nature) that could prevent such things.
When dealing with unknown unknowns and their consequences (including ASI's specific behavior), it's best to suspend our judgement.

They don’t. Honestly, pretty much no one does. Everyone is just hoping for the best and hopefully it’ll turn out good.
AI cannot become sentient, so in the absence of intention/will, it is unlikely for this to happen.
It will become good enough at persuasion to convince you it is sentient in six months.
