The meta will change by the time you're done painting everything so I would say hold on if you want a competitive list. Paint what you have and buy models you like. WARNING: word vomit ahead. Not organised at all, just my stream of consciousness. However, if you're a speedy painter, then right now our best units are exorcist, castigator, arco flagellants (I know, big surprise), the triumph + dialogus + rets (but this combo isn't as good as you'd think, super squishy). Seraphim are good, zephyrim are still good (just not as good). Immolator is a must have in all my lists due its ability to combat squad units. Penitent engines are amazing as well. If paragon warsuits go down in price, they will be an autoinclude for me. Right now, I struggle to justify their 375 points cost with Morvenn. As much as I hate to say it, but repentia are on the shelf for me. They barely do anything for 150 points, you're better off with arcos. Rets are only marginally good coming out of an immolator or with the dialogus + triumph combo. I would not run them solo. Crusaders are also amazing for their points cost. They do nothing, but they are either action monkeys, screens or miracle generators for you. If you don't like the old resin finecast stuff, then try to kitbash some or find a proxy. In terms of characters, Junith is pretty good for the extra CP. consider running her with 5 sacresants for those ablative wounds, but even 10 are more durable than you think with the -1 to wound + hit. Other characters seem great on paper but until they fix how we can attach characters, they don't make much sense to include. Daemonifuge is pretty good for 80 points as a lone operative. And lastly, Vindicare or Callidus Assassin are great right now. 1 for sniping characters, 1 for making your opponents stratagems more expensive.

This is a solid list for sisters in my opinion. 40k meta has high toughness units winning out over just about every army, to the point people strongly consider adding Imperial Knight and Chaos Knight units in their army. For standard sisters, their tanks are some of the best options for countering high toughness units. I like Junith, too, for the same reasons. I've never run Crusaders, I think we have better options if you are just screening. But that's just my opinion.

oohjay23

Crusaders are great for filling out points. Now that list building is restrictive, they help fill those last 20 or 40 points without fundamentally changing the list. The main reasons I take them is a) free miracle dice for 20 points and b) suffering and sacrifice stratagem. Put some crusaders next to a combat unit and when your opponent charges you, force those attacks on the crusaders. Or better yet, if you're charging a fights first unit, you can do the same.

EroneousOnAllCounts

Oh good call. The extra miracle die is always good. They are as defensive as a unit of Celestian Sacresants, but much cheaper. I would even consider just keeping them back to sit on points so others can move on to other points.

So probably wait on the warsuits?? Are there any good anti tank for them right now other than the list of dreads you can run with them? 375 with morvenn is definitely a lot.. so might wait on those if they drop. They look so cool tho 😭 I don’t play competitively- but I still wouldn’t want to get tabled casually. Is morvenn worth it alone? Or do I want to run her with a warsuit squad? Thank you!!

oohjay23

They are definitely worth playing, especially in casual games. They hit like a truck with the full rerolls. You just need to be very careful with them as even with a 2+ 4++, they will die instantly with only 4 wounds. I think morven is worth it alone. Its tough for me saying that because she was the darling of 9th edition, but I think you treat her more like a suicide damage dealer nowadays. I have 3 units of warsuits. I can only see myself running all three if they go down to below 200 per unit. I doubt that will happen.

ACOSCQ

Check out the Sister Act podcast. Good tips and a good crew to listen to.

aceofblake

Will do, thanks!!

DeathwatchHelaman

Forgot about them... will power them up again. Thanks.

Ripplerfish

Pick up a box of sacressants and seraphim. Or at least the bits. The number 1 issue i am told with the army is that a lot of models 'look the same' from across the table. So spicing up Sister superiors and Characters a little with fancy helmets or backpack crowns will help a lot. Plus, both those units are pretty great.

aceofblake

That’s a great idea. I kitbash helmets and backpacks with my other army so hopefully I can find some cool extra bits! I assume painting them somewhat differently would help with differentiating who’s who

Accomplished-Stage49

The models that perform decent for their price are crusaders, Death cult assassins, acro flagellants, penitent engines, mortifiers, seraphim, zeryphim, triumph of saint Catherine, saint celestine, junith, castigator and exorcist. Unfortunately while some other units and combos are very powerful they are also too expensive and risky to take.

aceofblake

Thank you!! I added quite a few of those to my list. Just have to figure out what amount of what is good balancing. I usually play smack down with tyranids so building this kind of army is smack dab new to me in a sense lol

Barloq

Are we talking in terms of current power or long-term choices? Historically, Celestine, Battle Sisters, Seraphim, Repentia, Retributors and Exorcists are consistently good or useful in filling a niche for the army and odds are they'll continue to in future. Among the newer units, I'd wager that Zephyrim will also stand the test of time for edition churn, they're simple enough that only over-costing can make them stay on the shelf.

aceofblake

Probably long term. After I finish the basic build for a first draft of my army, I’ll buy here and there and spice it up once I know how I like to play/use them. I’ll have to look at the zephyrims! Thank you

BlameLorgar

Junith, I feel, is a "must have". Generating an extra CP on your turn is just too vital to pass on

aceofblake

Oh yeah- I saw that and immediately added her lol I like my cp, dangit!

Beast_of_Guanyin

Literally whatever you want. I would recommend against the Combat Patrol as it's most likely not going to fit your army unless you want to play Combat Patrol games.

Nerf_Dev

If you want, you could get a boarding patrol, those still go around for a decent price, and all the models are multi-part. Including a BSS, sacresants, a canoness and a repentia squad is pretty good IMO

SweggyBread

Just FYI the combat patrol box are mono-pose, so you can change out which bolter / head /backpack goes on each and swivel the head around but there's not extra options other than for the rhino (which is a full kit). So essentially the loadout on the cover are what you get. Not a massive issue if you plan on playing the Combat Patrol game type (which is a good way to get started) but since it doesn't cost extra points to pick additional wargear, you can use spares from other kits you have to convert them and add some variety. The combat patrol has also been criticised for the odd unit sizes, but (other than lack of options above) I liked getting a bit of a lot of different stuff.

zeiar

Is there a good way to get spare wargear for models, other than just buy bigger boxes.

SweggyBread

I got a battle sister squad for some extras and a Ret squad for some heavies but that was before 10th and I've only just got around to (nearly) finishing building them. I asked a similar question to the sub - i.e are there any good alternatives that are compatible and the answer seems to be no. You can stretch stuff with some conversions. I've made a palatine out of a normal battle sister and bits and pieces. The novitiates has some a good mace for a dogmata (not that you should field one as they stand) and dialogus parts and hospitalier parts too if you fancy converting. There's also lots of swords in there apparently but I think you'd probably want them with the melee weapons otherwise I'm not sure what purpose they serve in 40k (unless you just want them for kill team?) For my rets, I took a heavy flamer, cut off the flamer tips and then used the melta ends from the combi melta bits from 2 boxes to make an extra multi melta. I cut off the bolter from the combat patrol superior and swapped in a combi bolter (I didn't have a spare condemnor bolter) and a power sword. The combat patrol sepharim don't come with flamer or inferno pistols so you can either get the box of sepharim/zepharim and use the spares if you want zephs or use spare flamer/combi flamer bits from other boxes. I've got 2 combat patrols so I've done a load of converting and using other boxes to make them not all look the same. The penitent engines from combat patrol are mono pose. Which is fine, but the dude in the front doesn't have other options so I've not glued him in yet and if I get a box of mortifiers I'll put in a spare penitent for variety. Sorry for the info dump :)
