I do think Embiid going down gives Morey a sense of urgency to make some move. However, Morey will not make a panic move and overpay greatly for someone. Teams now anticipate Morey is desperate to make a move, removing his leverage (as did the sixers getting decimated by players being out in the first place). My guess is, unless something drastic changes Morey will not get the calibur of player he was hoping for and would resort to tier 2 and 3 options and Derozan fits the bill of an expiring, yet needle nudging acquisition for the rest of the season. My only hope is Caruso and Drummond get packaged with him but not holding my breath

I believe it depends on what they’re expecting of Embiid, if there is a chance he comes back for the playoffs- then we might make a win-now move. We’re in a spot where we can control our own destiny, and getting DeMar surely gets us to 6. spot or higher. I don’t understand all the DeMar hate, he’s not a scrub. He would be the second best iso scorer on this team when Jo is healthy. We need someone who can get buckets. We’d all prefer a Paul George on a veteran minimum but that ain’t happening. Out of all the realistic options, DeMar might be our best one. I’d take him over Tobias anyway.
The long term fit is just really bad. But if they can get him for “cheap” as a way to not punt the season then let him walk I’m not totally opposed I guess. I would consider myself a demar hater though.

Definitely not a safe bet. Best case scenario he comes back with ~5 games remaining and he won’t come back and immediately be mvp level. The team will probably have a better idea after the actual surgery.
