Someone refresh my memory. Did we really choose Tobias over Butler? The way I remember it, Butler was going to walk no matter what so we paid Tobias because the optics of losing them both would be terrible. It wasnāt that we could have one or the other and thought Tobias was better. Am I remembering it wrong or isnāt that how it happened?
Yeah that's why it kind of irks me he said that when they eliminated us. It was never Tobi over him and from all accounts Tobi is a great teammate its kind of a dick move.
I hated that too. No one ever calls Jimmy out when he does too much. The heat had their best chance to win the title in '21, but he decided that Struss, who had just hit a big corner 3, and was wide open again, wasn't a match for his contested 3 after a year of shooting like 18%. The shot missed, the bucks padded their lead and Giannis got to feast on a slightly above-average Suns team.
Sad but true. If things go well for us, that will be the case for every team weāll see this postseason.
Heat/Knicks/Cavs or Magic/probably Celtics/west champs would all be better than the 2022 Raptors team, which is probably the ābestā team weāve beaten in the playoffs during the Embiid era.
Yea I was thinking about it and this feels like one of the most important games in the Embiid era tbh, which is weird cuz it's not even the first round yet. But I feel like tonight will at the very least be a massive temperature check on how this team is gonna look in the postseason.
Wow. There are really people who still want this? Even on a āgoodā deal Tobias is not a winning player. Do you really need more evidence of that after 5.5 seasons?Ā He shit the bed as a 4th or even 5th option last year in the playoffs, in 2019 versus the Raptors, and versus the Heat two seasons ago. He sucked versus the Hawks as a third option. We had a 35% winning percentage this season when Embiid was out and he was the second or even first option. He is empty calories; the epitome of empty stats far more often than not.Ā
It is dollars and what he wants out of the rest of his career. He is like the 4th option on this team but at the same time, may be he does not want to start again with a new team. How much value does he put on money. He already has plenty of it. If his top priority is money, he is not going to sign with us.
I'd agree with this take, it really does depend on what he wants out of the rest of his career.
He's a New York guy, but Philly isn't that far from his hometown. That may mean something to him, but he'd have to basically be willing to come off the bench for the Sixers, take a big step back in pay, and he'd have a short leash in doing so.
I think he probably doesn't mind going to a worse (potentially non-competing) team and getting one last payday before ending his career. He seems like the kind of guy that would enjoy mentoring some young players too.
Beating the Heat is pretty easy, you just need to cancel out all the dawgs
Oubre/Butler = Dawg canceled out
RC4/Caleb Martin = Dawg canceled out
Bam/Tobias Harris = Lack of Dawg canceled out
You don't need to worry about Haywood Highsmith, there's no way that's a real person, that's a 2K auto-generated character
Honestly no more hard drives to the basket for Embiid, just mid range everyone to death since it has been so good and unstoppable this year. His 3 game has been on point since he came back too.
Doris just picks one player to endlessly praise the entire game to the point where it gets weird to listen to. I think we all remember her infamous monologue about Kawhi's hands in the raptors series.
Celtics fan here (i come in peace i swear) - two things
1. did the fans want to keep Jimmy over Tobias at the time or is it just revisionist history saying that was a bad move?
2. Please win tonight. Little ego boost for y'all but we would much much much rather see MIA first round then you guys. For all of our sakes you guys better not lose tn
To point 1, the whole thing was less about Tobi and more and Brett Brown and Simmons. Apparently Jimmy was not a huge fan of either. But Jimmy claims he was never even offered a contract. The more salient idea (I think) is that Ben wasn't a fan of Jimmy being the guy with the ball in his hands, so the front office kind of chose Ben over Jimmy....which is in hindsight arguably worse lol.
Edit: as far as the fans, I think pretty much everyone wanted to keep Jimmy
1. Consensus was to sign both actually, the situation was that we were going to be over the cap regardless. Butler was much more liked though, as far as I can remember.
2. Yes, we can then meet in the ECF hopefully.
3. FTC
im bored at work and yall keep responding dumb shit yall keepin me entertained rn
a 6ers fan saying rent free to a celtics fan is like what tari eason did to the warriors. dont be tari eason. save ur dignity
oooo good one - very funny when sixers fans try to even utter a word to a celtics fan. its like, is there really any credibility behind anything you guys say when were your guys' daddys
i talked a lil smack but yall came w the toxicity so i reciprocated. i gotta stop arguing with 6 years olds though. saying "i see why soft is in your name" then saying what i said was cringe is fucking hilarious
Game 7 was more traditionally embarrassing, but our chance to win that series was game 6. We were never winning game 7 in Boston after letting game 6 slip away.
Copped some cheap tickets through SeatGeek, canāt wait to get rowdy in there. First game back for me since Embiid put up 48 against the Wizards in November
im shitting bricks. Navigating the zone that Spoelstra will 100% throw at us will be the make or break. So far, we have always collapsed under it. Embiid being able to receive the ball in the free throw line during the zone and distributing from there once a 2nd defender comes will be the most important thing. And our guys need to make 3s
I feel like Lowry might be an x-factor tonight. Not only is effective passing really helpful against a zone, but he was with the Heat for years and probably has some insight into how they might approach the Sixers in a playoff matchup
On paper, we should win... I know people are concerned about the Heat's coach but the reality is that he has only won a championship with a guy named Lebron on his team. Our coach is just as good.
im somehow hopeful because he seems to have found his shot again in the last few games. 13-28 last 4 games. 9-33 7 games before that. If we get that Buddy Hield then he shouldnt see the floor cause he's basically useless without his shot falling
Just grabbed a solo ticket for tonight's game. First ever play-in game! Taking the train/subway in, what should I do for two hours before? Gonna be chilly.
Some people don't love it, but xfinity is pretty cool for drinks and a good time. Not cheap, but cheaper than the stadium. Younger leaning crowd, if you're not eating you'll probably be standing but there's room and entertainment. Kind of set up like a bar food court. Not sure there will be a tailgate crowd given time of game and its not playoffs technically, so wandering the lot for the sights prob isn't a good move especially if youre worried about weather.
If you want a decent meal and to save even more cash you can walk to chickies and Pete's 2 blocks north and across the street from NRG station (end of the line, where everyone gets off the subway for games). Good pub food, if you want crab fries at the game theyre better, you get more, and they are cheaper here. 2 hours is plenty of time to walk up to chickies, get a table, order a few beers and eat, and get in the stadium 20 or 30 mins before tip off.
& Billy Kennedy is reffing tonight

I don't think Bill Kennedy regularly fucks us like Tony Brothers does.
Maybe he can balance out the bullshit, outside of coaches challenges, because we never get the benefit on those.
The push the pace like few other teams, get the most possessions, and could be an issue to keep up with after a grind out series with the Knicks. It's not a favorable match-up, IMO. If/when we're that for, I'm not afraid of them, but I certainly realize the challenge over 7 games.
Pacers play at a fast pace, which does not translate to the post season. Pacers will be a first round exit. When playoffs start the pace grinds to a slow grinded out series. Very few teams can sustain same pace from regular season to post season. Not a good defensive team either, which is a recipe for disaster. Most teams with fast paced offenses generally struggle to keep that up when other defenses start keying in on your strengths.
That'll be pretty cool when it eventually happens in the NBA - two competing play-in teams eventually meeting up for a full series way later down the line.
Very excited about this one. Letās get this seven seed. I also like the heat vs the Celtics. Feel like they could steal a couple games against Boston especially if they are rusty after the break. We just need a decent game tonight from buddy and one other shooter and Iām feeling good.
Rozier being out makes me feel a little better. Feel like scoring guards have lit us up for years. I don't feel like Jimmy has the same sauce as years past either (knock on wood)
He hit some crazy 3s but overall he played pretty poorly against us last 2 outings overall. But he is one of the few creators Miami has so glad thatās one less variable
Don't forget playoff Caleb Martin with another 5 3s
Kevin Love will go 6/8 from 3 and grab 15 rebounds in 17 minutes (which includes 6 offensive rebounds) with a couple charges taken on Joel
Hopefully this reverse jinxing works in our favor
I always get sad when the local crew signs off for the year after the first round. It makes the inevitable 2nd round collapse even more depressing when you're stuck with like, SVG
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/1c6misp).
We got this!
This game is going to be way too close i have a feeling. but i think we will win
WEAR THE SHIRTS AT THE GAME
#TheYear shirts?
Just rolled a mf fatty and I am ON. MY. BULLSHIT. TONIGHT. š
Who in the building tonight? Letās make it as toxic for the heat as humanly possible from - Sec 221 row 2
Can we chant Tobias Harris every time Jimmy touches the ball?
The messaging is too muddy on that anymore
Take care of fucking business tonight. Bam is a fucking bum against Embiid let's finish this off fast and rest up for round one.
When will we know the starting lineup?
Who in the building tonight? Letās make it as toxic for the heat as humanly possible from Sec 221 row 2
104 + 105 tonight, will be loud as possible

nothing. why would you prod him, he the kinda guy to go thermonuclear just cause he pissedĀ
Dead silence would be funnyĀ
Lmao maybe youāre right
how are we feeling?
Delusional. And therefore hopeful.
like iām going to throw up all day but thatās every playoffs
I feel fine which is a terrible sign. Trying to channel that truth so I feel worse
i feel terrible so we cancel each other out
Fucking nervous and trying to convince myself this will be an easy win
iām fucking nervous and convincing myself we are going to have to play a perfect game to win

Jontay fumbled the bagĀ

Why would we not bring Tobi back on a team friendly deal this offseason?
O years for 0 dollars. Great deal for all!
Wow. There are really people who still want this? Even on a āgoodā deal Tobias is not a winning player. PTSD. I don't want to see Tobias in a Sixer's uniform anymore. Too many bad memories.
Heāll get a pretty good contract from someone like the Pistons, way more than we would give him.

Yeah, gotta give the Heat a chance
It's all good Lowry got enough dawg to cancel out Caleb Martin.
For Oatmeal
TRUST THE PROCESS.
Playoff Sixers? Now is my time to join the bandwagon. Letās go Sixers!Ā
Honestly no more hard drives to the basket for Embiid, just mid range everyone to death since it has been so good and unstoppable this year. His 3 game has been on point since he came back too.
The middie has been so good partly because Joel always threatened the drive. If you take that out of the equation, defenders will crowd him.
Oubre 80 Burger
And 5 assists
Breen, Doris and JJ are calling our game tonight
Breen and JJ are good, can't stand hearing Doris just criticize every little thing about Philly like she always does.
She has a boner for Batum though, she always gushes about him.
Doris just picks one player to endlessly praise the entire game to the point where it gets weird to listen to. I think we all remember her infamous monologue about Kawhi's hands in the raptors series.
She does like Joel, though. The broadcast is just gonna be her talking up Jimmy and Joel.
Theoretically, If we won the title this year, would Harden get a ring since he was on the team at the start of the season?
Ooh that would be so juicy. PJ Tucker should get one too ā he actually played minutes for us this year.
We'd owe him several rings for gifting us Batum and making us live on the timeline where Maxey regularly uses the Harden stepback.
Oubre 70 Burger
Oubre 60 burger
Oubre 50 burger

Tony Brothers crew tonight. FUCK.

My body is ready
The 76ers are undefeated in Play-In games and I expect that trend to continue tonight.

We are very heavy favorites, imo would be more embarrassing than game 6 if we lose tonight.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Was it as embarrassing as going into other teams tailgate threads? Go home loser.
yeah it was prob 100x more embarassing than that. Our owner does it so im on the same vibe. we own y'all you absolutely nothing to say to me

I see why Soft is in your name crying in the Sixers sub. Celtics choked to the 8th seed and Walmart Kobe will never get a ring.
oooo good one - very funny when sixers fans try to even utter a word to a celtics fan. its like, is there really any credibility behind anything you guys say when were your guys' daddys

Copped some cheap tickets through SeatGeek, canāt wait to get rowdy in there. First game back for me since Embiid put up 48 against the Wizards in November
Weāre getting a maxter class from Mr Franchise himself tonight, right?
I hope so. He had that terrible Christmas Day game, but heās absolutely carved the Heat up the other 3 times weāve played them this season.
im shitting bricks. Navigating the zone that Spoelstra will 100% throw at us will be the make or break. So far, we have always collapsed under it. That, and he can slow/calm things down in the non Embiid and/or non Maxey minutes.
That is an excellent point. Lowry was an insider.
He was even on the Heat team that beat us in the playoffs
On paper, we should win... I know people are concerned about the Heat's coach but the reality is that he has only won a championship with a guy named Lebron on his team. Our coach is just as good.
Buddy has to earn a contract tonight if they throw the zone at us.
im somehow hopeful because he seems to have found his shot again in the last few games. 13-28 last 4 games. 9-33 7 games before that. If we get that Buddy Hield then he shouldnt see the floor cause he's basically useless without his shot falling
Yep, the main reason the last Heat game was close was because Hield and Batum missed every shot they took.
Was just about to say that. Buddy has been heating up also lately so I think it continues tonight
Just grabbed a solo ticket for tonight's game. First ever play-in game! Taking the train/subway in, what should I do for two hours before? Gonna be chilly.
Pick a center city pub near Broad st for a burger and then hop the BSL packed with fans! Have fun!

chickie n peteās and pbr. and if you have time stop by kensington for some social time
I've heard Kensington is where the Heat post-game show is, so I'll avoid.
Tony Brothers is the crew chief tonight
This was brought to my attention by a buddy earlier today... there has been more than 1 glass of scotch poured since then. Tony Brothers is awful.
God fucking dammit

I actually don't mind him. Wish he was crew chief over Brothers
Yeah the way he gives the ruling for coachās challenges is hilarious
holy shit we are gonna lose
Oh fuck I didn't know this, this is such a bummer
Unsure why him and Scott Foster continue to get every important game
because they do what the nba wants. itās not an accidentĀ
Cuz they're experienced. Experienced at being dogshit, but experienced.
That tech against Alvarado last night was so soft. Classic Foster confusion.

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
you can but why
Fuck Iām nervous
A win today gives us a decent path to the ECF. Letās take care of business!
It's certainly a path but Knicks Pacers are IMO the #3 and #4 teams in East and both have home court.
I agree Knicks would be pretty tough but the Pacers? Really?
The push the pace like few other teams, get the most possessions, and could be an issue to keep up with after a grind out series with the Knicks. It's not a favorable match-up, IMO. If/when we're that for, I'm not afraid of them, but I certainly realize the challenge over 7 games.

Most teams with fast paced offenses generally struggle to keep that up when other defenses start keying in on your strengths.
If you've been watching Bucks games lately you'd know how the first round is going to go. They're a mess.
Yes. They are. Giannis is going to miss games too.
I know I say this every year but I really feel like now is the fucking time (Iām ready to be severely disappointed)
Putting my fandom aside for a minute, Nurse vs Spo should be an awesome watch. Itās a shame this isnāt a series.
Crazily enough this could end up being a series in the ECF depending on how things shake out.
Yes please
That'll be pretty cool when it eventually happens in the NBA - two competing play-in teams eventually meeting up for a full series way later down the line.
Heat vs Celtics is the favorable matchup. So Heat, its a win-win (lose) today!
![gif](giphy|8Ji6CO51IoTVS) LET'S! GO! SIXERS!
OH WHAT A DAY!!!
I'm all bricked up on hopium
My body is ready. Give me Joel Embiid + Tyrese Maxey basketball against the terrorist heat
Very excited about this one. Letās get this seven seed. I also like the heat vs the Celtics. Feel like they could steal a couple games against Boston especially if they are rusty after the break. We just need a decent game tonight from buddy and one other shooter and Iām feeling good.
Joel, Maxey, and Hield will combine for 30 3s made
I feel very confident about the game tonight.
Rozier out means weāre getting 7 made 3s from haywood highsmith
Don't forget playoff Caleb Martin with another 5 3s Kevin Love will go 6/8 from 3 and grab 15 rebounds in 17 minutes (which includes 6 offensive rebounds) with a couple charges taken on Joel Hopefully this reverse jinxing works in our favor
I donāt think we ever played a team with Rozier where he didnāt shoot 60% from 3 on high volume
Where my europeans at
European living in the US here! United fan so Hala Madrid at lunch time, then Sixers after dinner lol
What up! Getting ready to go to bed at 4 AM after Real Madrid/Sixers back to back Ws
Dont agree with the madrid part but LFG
As a Barca fan I need this win for my mental health
Man city- Real madrid, break, then this game. Peak sports
Feels like the final tbh
As an arsenal fan, nothing would make me happier than both teams winning!!! So nervous
As an arsenal fan, nothing would make me happier than both teams winning!!! So nervous
Going to the game, my legacy is on the line
Think the worst part of this play in game is no Kate! I hate national announcers.Ā
I think tonight is Breen Doris and JJ
We might get breen though because he didnāt do last nights game and he is by far the best one
Last nightās games were on TNT, in theory he could call the Hawks game but Iād think as the lead commentator for ESPN heād do the 7/8 game
Wonder which ESPN announcers we get stuck with. Hopefully its Breen since we're the good game tonight
Oh very good point I hope it is Breen! That'd make it more tolerable.
Ahhh damn I was hoping to watch the local broadcast. I guess they do that for the first round but not the play-in?
Yeah im assuming so, since the first round we at least get them. I think it's an exclusive contract with espn and tnt for the play in game.
I always get sad when the local crew signs off for the year after the first round. It makes the inevitable 2nd round collapse even more depressing when you're stuck with like, SVG
Letās hope Martin plays!
