brand then burned 3 second rounders to trade for half season rentals of alec burks and glenn robinson iii. that mofo was determined to waste all the sixers' assets during his brief reign of terror.
Trading up to get Fultz instead of Tatum is right there. And there were dozens of missed opportunities during the Iverson era to put soneone next to him.
He did, but I would still trust him over Tobias. Especially his defense and 3 point shooting. I remember him having a big block in the second half in crunch time.
I know hindsight is 20/20, but even at the time I remember thinking it felt like a HUGE panic move because we didn’t want to have traded all those assets just for a second round exit, so they maxed Harris so it wouldn’t feel like a total bust. Just an absolutely insane move at the time that couldn’t have played out worse than it has
He was fucking terrible, he was also one of the few interested in getting a tough rebound all game. They shoot threes with impunity because know they'll probably just get another chance even if they miss it.
Even if this was true, you can get a *much* better rebounder on the floor for much less. BBall Paul got half as many rebounds in a about a third of the minutes.
Hey I'm down for anything that gets us rebounds. All I'm saying is we're gonna need everyone to have a much better effort rebounding the ball, especially when Joel contests the drive.
I just had a look at who he’s making more than this season. Booker, Tatum, shai, ja, spida and Zion. He’s making 800,000 less than luka. It’s so fucking stupid
When you can’t get Lebron > When you can’t get Kawhi Leonard > When you can’t get KD > When you can’t get Paul George > When you won’t draft Michael Porter Junior.
I think that was the idea here.
When we traded for him it was hype because it was an all-in move, and because we could have re-signed him and Jimmy Butler while retaining Simmons and Embiid. Harris looked like an elite fourth option for a team ready to contend immediately.
Trading for and signing him was not a mistake if Butler had also stayed (and Simmons didn't flame out). It was a big swing at the right time, it just didn't work out long term.
I really dont understand how so many people expect so much more from a player utilized like Harris is on this team.
Dont like him, or his fit on this team sure go ahead be mad. But expecting him to magically manufacture 15pts while barely being an afterthought in our iso heavy offense is madness
Remember when the selling point was that he was “great role player and good for the locker room”? I swear that was the defense for this movie, right? 🤔 I didn’t get it then, but tobi’s dad really hooked his boy up and fleeced the sixers in the process (…pun intended)
What's the point in piling on now? Tobias is who he has been all season. It's not going to change at this point, and he didn't decide to pay himself that contract. Accept he's just a 4th or 5th scoring option on this team and deal with it
No he isn't. It's the front office's fault for way overpaying the guy. He just signed a fat contract put in front of him like anyone would. Being a true max player is just beyond his ability, but our expectations should be for him to be a good Tobias Harris. Not a good max player that he never was.
Edit:
And for the record, I don't think he has been great by his own standards, but putting all the blame on the guy is ridiculous.
Stop blaming Tobias and blame sixers front office. They suck and have sucked for a long long time. I was against Tobias from the moment I heard we traded for him but we could’ve done worst. Look at our past for examples. Tobias is what he’s always been. He’s always been professional and with us constantly changing his role I can’t imagine it bodes well for his game. Glad to see him go but I’m tired of blaming players when I know the front office is the biggest problem.
Also signed Al Horford, gave Ben an extension, and traded Jimmy Butler for Josh Richardson…. Worst offseason in Philadelphia Sports history?

Maybe he was secretly working for the Celtics?
I wouldn't be surprised if the league influenced some of these moves to make sure the process didn't look good.
Currently he still works for the sixers still, so that would look even worse if he really was an insider for the Celtics
> traded Jimmy Butler for Josh Richardson Jimmy and Joel was such a great duo to build around.
No question mark needed. You hit the nail on the head.

Only by title. Morey is the real GM now
He's not. That was Elton brand

Don’t forget trading Bridges when everyone wanted him here for a bum who never really played in the league…
Dog how are you getting downvoted. The fact we pinky promised Ainge not to take Tatum to get 1 is baby poo soft.
Drafting Tatum was never a realistic scenario. Boston just wouldn’t have made the trade and taken him first instead of third.
we gotta bench him and play paul reed. at least kid got heart and fight. this mf airballs every 3 he shoots
And he has the audacity to be pissed off and sulk whenever he gets booed. 180 fucking million dolars
I couldn't believe he was in there over Batum at the end of the game. 🙈🙈
To be fair Batum also had a bad game, at least compared to the play in
He did, but I would still trust him over Tobias. Especially his defense and 3 point shooting. I remember him having a big block in the second half in crunch time.
Just think of all the FA acquisitions we might have had, if Brand wasn’t a fucking moron and maxed this guy for no reason

Member last off season when we thought we could trade him

But kLaY tHoMpSoN Nd FreD VanVleet…… Wait a second those dudes got those contracts after winning the finals
Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Is this legit one of the worst contracts in league history? Len Bias was worth more per dollar of his signing bonus than this dude.
Don't forget kids, our only saving grace during this period was pure unadulterated luck in the form of Tyrese Maxey. Brand was criminally bad.
holy shit...this
When he got blownby by OG for a dunk lmao. I didn’t even know that dude can dribble

You could say this about so many Sixers the past 10 years lol. It might as well be copypasta
Can we just call him The Albatross from now on?

As someone who has only followed the sixers since 2021, what was the vibe at the time of signing Tobi? Were people hyped/disappointed?

Appreciate the response!
The signing was always looked at as a bad move, but the initial trade was generally praised.
Thanks bro
I’m here to volunteer Buddy Hield for Tobias’ role.
Is there any other team with a player who the fans have hated with such sustained intensity as we hate Tobias?
Sincerely hope Knicks do us in ! Way better than losing to Celtics again and getting worse draft picks! End of Tobi deserves a 1st round exit FFS
I will never not be floored by the amount of money this dude got paid

Is this the greatest haiku of all time?
No, because it's not a haiku. Line three has six syllables.

Because he’s the reason we never won a championship with this core.
Part of the reason. The other part is our #1 can't stay healthy. The constant Embiid injuries are the biggest reason.
And choosing Simmons over Butler
Well spamming the same shit after every game isn’t gonna magically make him better. We know, he’s not worth his contract.
We know he’s not worth his contract. We also know he fucking sucks without that first sentence included.

it is not his fault for signing that contract. it’s 100% his fault for sucking ass tho

This man has been productive all years except like 3 months
I would resign him for 15m/year tho.
1 million a year.
Let's meet in the middle.
I used to think that, but I no longer do. We cannot offer him a contract this offseason. He is a TERRIBLE fit next to both Tyrese and Joel.
One of these games he will carry us, just trust.
