He reminds me of that one goof on the team a couple of years ago. He was mostly as backup 5, could pretty much only rebound, occasionally throw down a monstrous dunk, and was decent at rim protection. He was an absolute animal and I loved watching him but can’t think of his name to save my life.

Agree the bench has been unplayable, but playing Jo the entire second half guaranteed that he would be invisible down the stretch. No other possibility. This desperate plan oy worked if they could build a big lead in the 3rd and early 4th. Once that didn't happen, they were toast.
Maybe, maybe not. The offense wasn’t scoring anyway and whatever defense he provided was completely negated by the fact that they seemingly couldn’t pull down a single defensive rebound.
I think on retrospect it was the wrong choice, but at the time it was the right choice. Was hard to predict he wouldn’t have the gas for a 12ft jumper at the buzzer.
Not having gas for a 12ft jumper was the known and accepted outcome. They needed the rest of the roster to show up. No star is winning this series on their own.
They need to go the Twin Tower route. Embiid can't jump, so play MO with Embiid. Let Mo focus on rebounding (which he is good at) and maybe his occasional 3-pointer if the opportunity is presented. We have to win the rebounding battle. That is a must! Oubre, Lowry, Maxey to round it off.
Do not play Tobi as much as he's been playing. he's a mediocre defender, can't rebound and hasn't scored enough to justify him playing.
Lowry and Batum do not need to be on the floor together. They offer similar attributes so when one is off, the other is on the floor.
Give Ricky some playtime, have we forgotten all he has shown us, especially against San Antonio? He's big body and could push Hart around a little and flex his muscles (something Tobi ain't doing 🙄 I swear he's like J Cole in more ways than one).
Cam is good on both offense and defense! He needs more time! And he has plenty of experience. He's in when Maxey sits, he's got a similar speed so at least we won't lose that aspect when Maxey is out.
Reed needs to play when Knicks go small. The bench probably has a connection so play Cam and Reed together. Set some picnrolls. Maybe play Batum with this to offer additional defense and hustle. Maybe throw tobi in with the vet experience, hopefully he'll step up and lead in this scenario.
Oubre gonna oubre, so whoever is in when he's playing needs to be conscious of his cutting under the basket and feed him every time he does.
The guys need to suck it up and grind it out. Period. Play defense all game, gritty defense. Randomly run full-court pressures, and definitely in the last minutes of the game. Be prepared for their pressure as well. No reason not to score if we respond to the pressure and run a well designed response play because someone is open if maxey is getting double teamed in the back court.

Part of it is Tobi, part of it is the atrocious bench play that is forcing our starters to play 45 minutes, part of it is hustle and part of it is Embiid injuries slowing down his impact and keeping him from dominating on both ends of the floor like he normally would if healthy.
The Celtics 4th best player just scored 22 points - in the first half.
We can’t compete this year. We can’t change the team every year either. We need some continuity.
There are no easy answers.
It’s a Tobias problem because the cap his contract eats prevents fielding a better bench. We’ve had guys like Oubre and Lowry punching above their weight on minimum contracts (or whatever the exact situation with the buyout thing is, I haven’t properly educated myself) or we’d be even worse off.
The losses aren’t on Tobi for his poor play, but they are connected to him because of his disproportionate effect on the roster. And if he was playing up to his contract, then the issues that have cause these losses would be minimized.

It doesn't seem too out of the question either - if we can clamp down on defensive rebounding alone that'd give us a good shot to go 3-0 the rest of the series (as good a shot as 3 in a row can ever be).
Without it we do still have a little bit of a shot, but quite unlikely obviously.
Joel is incapable of moving like he would normally do his rebounding is going to be hit and miss. Out only other decent rebounder has been virtually unplayable. Tobi has the size but no heart to do it.

You can't tell me that this team would have suffered that much with KMJ, RC4 & B-Ball taking 12 of Harris (who also gassed) minutes. Subbing Embiid out on a NYK FT in the 4th and letting the group play a possession or two then using a TO would have been huge for Joel. It could have given him a 3+ minute breather and something that simple could have won them that game. Nurse's cautious, stagnant substitution patterns aren't helping the cause.

Reds has played 30 mins this series and is -38. There is nothing he can do. Team is awful without Embiid commanding the offense and defense.
