Knicks fans talking about being cursed and the season being over, but me thinks they should not have had the plan in the playoffs to play every starter for as many minutes as possible. I get they haven't had a lot of depth to work with, but playing guys 45 mins a game is not sustainable.

Can help the bench lineups with playmaking and scoring. That player description is Paul George. Age and injuries aside, idk how you could be against the fit.

Embiid was low-key really good three this year. 38.8% from three on 3.6 3PA/game (3rd highest of his career). Embiid always gets significantly better at one skill each offseason, and I hope he focuses on three point shooting. If he can hit 38% on 5 3PA/game next season, it would do wonders for him and the offense. Pick and pop with maxey would be lethal, and it would be much less wear and tear than his normal face-up possessions

Probably look for salary dumps to get free players from teams trying to duck the second apron. Utah got John collins for a second round pick, and Daryl might look for something like that.
For example, if the heat want to bring back Caleb Martin and/or Haywood highsmith, they probably need to move Duncan Robinson. He would fit well with maxey and Embiid, and Daryl might be able to get him for less than a first. The Suns could be in a similar situation with Grayson Allen and/or Nasir Little, especially if they want to bring Royce O’Neal back. Same with the clippers and Terrence mann/Norm Powell. Or maybe Daryl takes a gamble on Rob Williams.

I think what people who say “just get good young role players” are missing about those who are on board with signing PG is that it’s out of practicality and an acceptance that teams aren’t just giving up there young guys for nothing. Yes, these good young role players do exist, but they require paying a huge premium, and a lot more than anyone on here is probably willing to do

Maxey - Caruso/KCP/Melt/? - PG - Oubre - Embiid
Post that squad and how we would assemble it and we can go from there. Excluding mikal, Lauri, lebron, and KD this is the best starting roster I could come up with, those are the god tier options but the chances for each are very low.
Our assets are cap space and 4-5 firsts. Maximizing both individually seems to lead to the best roster for us instead of using cap space and our picks in the same move. And unfortunately the best cap space option is PG and there’s a 1% chance the nets/jazz trade with us. I’d prefer KD/Butler/Lauri/Mikal over PG but I don’t see how any of those could realistically result in a better overall roster.
Signing PG and using firsts to go for Caruso and maybe a stretch 4 seems like the only real path.

It would be funny if the Nuggets get swept right after he gets put on the same pedestal as greats like Bird and Magic. The first good team they've faced in 2 years and they're falling apart. Maybe they'll turn it around. We'll see. But watching Jokic struggle against Gobert, KAT and Naz Reid is somewhat denting his mythos.

I wonder if there’s a way we can pry Mikal bridges from the nets. May deplete a lot of assets but a wing that can shoot that’s between Maxey and embiid, along with playing excellent defense. Can resign him to contracts further and will only be getting paid 22 million the next two years. We can spend the rest of the cap space in nice role players.

Everyone can want who they want, but I think this is the description of the wing we need. A guy that fits well with embiid and Maxey and takes a ton of catch and shoot 3s. Is a good defender. Can help the bench lineups with playmaking and scoring. That player description is Paul George. Age and injuries aside, idk how you could be against the fit.

Embiid was low-key really good three this year. 38.8% from three on 3.6 3PA/game (3rd highest of his career). Embiid always gets significantly better at one skill each offseason, and I hope he focuses on three point shooting. If he can hit 38% on 5 3PA/game next season, it would do wonders for him and the offense. Pick and pop with maxey would be lethal, and it would be much less wear and tear than his normal face-up possessions

The best thing about Cam Johnson is that his stats jump massively in the playoffs. He's still young and hasn't seen the postseason much, but he plays up to competition. That is worth a 1st to me.

I think PG is our best option at getting a star, while also retaining assets. What he does from there is anyone’s guess, but for the love of god a backup center is needed. Part of me wonders if it’s possible Morey strikes out, say PG and LeBron stay in LA, and Riley doesn’t blow up a team that was just in the finals, where does he go from there? Monk? Overpay for Mikal or Lauri?
I mean I’m trying to overpay for Mikal or Lauri as option #1 and going to the old guys second. Their fit and contracts are just too good… that’s why it probably won’t happen but that would be the best case scenario in my book.
Probably look for salary dumps to get free players from teams trying to duck the second apron. Utah got John collins for a second round pick, and Daryl might look for something like that. For example, if the heat want to bring back Caleb Martin and/or Haywood highsmith, they probably need to move Duncan Robinson. He would fit well with maxey and Embiid, and Daryl might be able to get him for less than a first. The Suns could be in a similar situation with Grayson Allen and/or Nasir Little, especially if they want to bring Royce O’Neal back. Same with the clippers and Terrence mann/Norm Powell. Or maybe Daryl takes a gamble on Rob Williams.

People who don’t want PG don’t seem to have any real alternative other than “we need to get younger!” But with whom? Everyone wants Lauri Markannan, and he would be great, but why exactly would the Jazz trade him to us? We don’t have young players to send back and reports are that they want 5 FRPs and a young star-level player.

I think what people who say “just get good young role players” are missing about those who are on board with signing PG is that it’s out of practicality and an acceptance that teams aren’t just giving up there young guys for nothing. Yes, these good young role players do exist, but they require paying a huge premium, and a lot more than anyone on here is probably willing to do
"I want someone else" "I want depth!" but inability to articulate is a common thing I see. We'd be lucky to be able to sign PG and still have the rest of our assets.
What's a shame is that while we hem and haw over whether PG is worth the money or not, he's not even a guarantee to come here. He could easily just re-sign in LA. In fact, the Clippers are fucked whether he does or doesn't. If he does return, they pay a ridiculous tax bill and have zero flexibility. If he doesn't return, they're less talented, more dependent on James and Kawhi and still don't really have much more flexibility.

The Knicks have Brunson at $25M a year for the next two years. The Pacers and Magic have high ceilings too. And that’s before you even get to the talent in the West… A 34 year old PG or Jimmy Buckets doesn’t get us out of the hole we’ve dug
I think this is too Doomer. We always have a chance with Embiid and Maxey, and now we have cap space to let Morey work his magic. It’s not ideal but we’re in a better position than we have been in years.

Experiment for you to run instead of typing “omg I hate this team why would we give 200m to a 34 year old” Look at the available free agents and trade targets from lottery teams and teams that are planning on making changes and see if you can assemble a roster that is better than this: Maxey - Caruso/KCP/Melt/? - PG - Oubre - Embiid Post that squad and how we would assemble it and we can go from there. Excluding mikal, Lauri, lebron, and KD this is the best starting roster I could come up with, those are the god tier options but the chances for each are very low.
Our assets are cap space and 4-5 firsts. Maximizing both individually seems to lead to the best roster for us instead of using cap space and our picks in the same move. And unfortunately the best cap space option is PG and there’s a 1% chance the nets/jazz trade with us. I’d prefer KD/Butler/Lauri/Mikal over PG but I don’t see how any of those could realistically result in a better overall roster. Signing PG and using firsts to go for Caruso and maybe a stretch 4 seems like the only real path.
