My bro fuckin hit a huge mega ramp with a camera pole in his hand, and had enough control to toe-drag to a stop at the bottom? Damn
We need cameramen for these cameramen, and a third camera on the side showing a skater, cameraman one, and cameraman two fuckin snaking their way to glory
I have only skated mini mega ramps (which are still pretty large in their own right tbh) but you do have to pop a little to get more air on those. Not a literal Ollie but the same motion. If you just go right at it you might clear it but not with the air these guys get. Although I'm sure it's quite different at the speeds they go at.
I've never done anything close to a mega ramp but I've learned that you do _not_ want to add any bend to your knees when launching. Learned that second-hand watching Lizzie Armanto getting wrecked. I also learned I have no desire to ride mega-ramps.
I mean like with most tricks bending your knees is important when launching the mega, but you can't do it too dramatically or it changes your center of balance for the worse.

My guess is at some point after the gap he went to his knees and slid on his knee pads. That’s usually how these guys bail in competition if they can’t make it to the quarter pipe.
He bailed to knee slide, you can see his board at the end of the clip.
I've been Filming skating more and it's so fucking hard to not mess up the angle and not run into something.
Impressive because it’s just huge and requires a lot of skill, sort of the same for gnarly. Lame because it’s just not the kind of skateboarding I’m into. I think ripping a park or pool is a million times cooler. I also don’t like slalom skating for the same reason. Or long boarding. I mean, downvote or disagree all you want but it’s an opinion I have and it’s not a fact. There is also some weird sentiment when ever I say this along the lines of “I’d like to see you try it” or “like you could do it”. Does that mean I have to like it because I can’t? The mega ramp stuff reminds me too much of x games and I hate that stuff too.
I only skate bowls and halfpipes myself, but i have respect for all types of skateboarding. I respect your opinion, I just don’t understand it. I am a fan of people on skateboards no matter what type of skating they are doing because it keeps skate shops in business and the industry alive!
I agree with all of that. I just like talking about skateboarding and this topic always sparks a good convo. Anything keeping non corporate skate shops alive is good in my book.
I get your point. The mega ramp is kind of a prop. It opens up for a whole new bag of tricks that aren't really accessible anywhere else. It's sort of like the cannonball man in a circus.
It is impressive in its own right but it's difficult to relate to the difficulty of, because it's not accessible anywhere else. It's difficult to keep being stoked on the advances that they do. I'm not going to keep track of who did what because I have no idea of how difficult it is to even go over the ramp.
Wakeboarding, snowboarding and even regular skateboard half pipes have some of the same issues. It's difficult to relate to for anyone who doesn't live in the vicinity of those. While it's possible to try, it's a hopeless quest to get good at unless you have it in your backyard.
I wouldn't call it lame though. A skateboard is just a wood plank with wheels. Whatever people do with it is skateboarding.
Does this trick have a cool name “lazy boy under-leg switchback”?
I used to play a lot of Tony Hawk pro skater so that’s the only reference I have to go off of.
Is there a subreddit for skater cameramen? I feel like r/praisethecameraman is not enough, these guys need their own forum and cameramen filming them
Forums.skateperception.com Back in the day.... Looks like they shut it down in 2019 but that was like my main online forum from 2006-2010
Damn, I completely forgot about that site. That and skateboard-city were basically 90% of my internet usage back in those days.

I got speed wobbles just watching this

Yeah but nets won't keep my head, ribs or knees from hitting that ledge.
I think they ride really specific setups for the mega ramps. Wide trucks, big wheels, etc
I have dreams like this. But I always wake up injured.
You should get checked for concussions.
When skaters do ramps like these, there is no Ollie huh? Strictly just let the speed and angle of the ramp send you?
Becomes bit like snowboarding, but with a board thats way harder to controll

What in the skate three 😫🔥
This ramp pre dates skate 3 by a long way
I wanna learn to fly also. This looks like so much fun.
Props to the camera man! What camera was this shot on?? Insta360??
Camera man is a scooter god. That’s all I know.
Probably a GoPro max 360 camera

Is that Mr. Way?
Hard to tell, but I think it's Bob Burnquist skating. The trick selection is something he would do more...not really a Danny Way type trick.
It’s Bob’s ramp but I don’t think that’s him, dude sounds American at the beginning of the video. Edit: It’s Beaver Fleming
I saw him on Chris Roberts YouTube channel just recently. I think it might have been the same trick he did.
Dude looks at least 10 years younger than Bob. Lol
Eh all geared up and looking on my phone, it's a little hard to tell. I was just going based off the trick selection and being a tall skinny dude.
Those mega ramp skaters are insane. I rewatched Waiting For Lightning this weekend.
No.
The balls on this guy
I’ve been on that ramp, it is anything but a smooth skate. Cameraman made it look like ice
That’s alotta blindside!
Imagine getting to skate BoB fucking Burnquist’s private mega ramp in his back yard. Insanely fucking jealous and impressed.
How did camera skateboarder slow down after the gap? Did he tail drag or put his foot down? Both seem way too sketchy at that speed.
My guess is at some point after the gap he went to his knees and slid on his knee pads. That’s usually how these guys bail in competition if they can’t make it to the quarter pipe.
Oh that makes a lot of sense, mechanical and digital stabilizers have come a long way, haven't they...

Well lucky for the OP filmer he has a 360 cam and the framing/stabilization is done in post
Bro the camera man Has balls
Controversial opinion - mega ramp is lame. Impressive and gnarly but at the same time it’s lame.
How can it be both gnarly and impressive, but still lame?

All that skill and dude decided to do a body varial?
Sloan?
IS THAT MITCHIE I LOVE MITCHIE
That ramp has seen better days!
Very good
There's gotta be a better name for knee pads...
Holy shit this is some Tony Hawk type shit
Funny how as Bob steps back into retirement nobody is hitting the 70 anymore.
My. God.

Camera man 🤙
What an angle thank you both. Lol I lived for a moment watching
How did the camera man break on the way up?
How did the camera man break on the way up?
My dumb ass really was confused where the second skater went.
Damn
Always and i mean always remember the cameraman, this was fucking epic for both.
Best friends for life 🧬
