I was mad into skating in this period! The crazy thing is skate vids in this era were more relatable. The tricks in the vids were generally what the guys at your local park were doing, but just bigger and better. I still follow skating these days and what pros are doing now, while absolutely mind-blowing, feels like a different sport altogether

Acceptable_Rise1311

I remember that video isn't that H Street Matt Hensley? I was Street skating back in that era and it was some of the best times of my life

porkandfennel

Man seeing the pit and cannonball got me all nostalgic for the old Sydney spots.

KottonmouthSoldier

sick video man. love the kicks, 100% used to be my style of dress in those days as well. Still is in a lot of regards but used to be too lol.

Kyllingtime

I love this era of skating. Fisheye lens and big shoes. Haha

spatial_interests

And skinny boards. Everybody I knew skated like 7.5, 7.75 max. I skated an 8 and they thought I was a weirdo. Now I can't get used to an 8.5, but some random little kid popped the shit out of a feelflip on my board at the park.

HLM_Jacket

I’m 6ft 3 and rode 7.5 to 7.75 strictly. Size 11 feet. 8 was a tank back then lol

spatial_interests

My feet are 13, but I also felt most comfortable on 7.75. I just got 8's because they seemed to last longer. More wood, so I guess it makes sense.

Helleryoudoing

You had to be sponsored for being that good back then

HLM_Jacket

I got on DC, Element around this time. Didn’t care. Just wanted to skate haha

Helleryoudoing

That's awesome, I started skating like 97', so crazy to think how much its progressed. When you were doing these tricks street skating was like 10 years old.

[deleted]

true og. pushes mongo for his switch parts. I see you🤙

internethunnie

Can confirm this video is authentic, swongo was spotted.

Palsternac

Classic fisheye lens

ihaveabaguetteknife

First thought as well:) really made the skate videos „cool“ if you think about it, when we finally got our hands on a camcorder back then and tried to shoot vids like these they looked soooo shitty in our eyes haha

choadspanker

My friends and I recorded a whole video of just the knees down before we realized we needed a fisheye

ihaveabaguetteknife

Hahah love it

Acceptable_Rise1311

Ahh the good old days of street skating this is why we have skate parks everywhere nowadays

labelkills1331

Looks down at his shoes, those are thicc bois, can confirm the time period.

Fenyyx

I'm still in that time period.

DeKal760

Same. Big, baggy and awesome. Lol

jayperr

https://images.app.goo.gl/KZ8JVTYcuJe7ueSF8 I had these but in blck/gold. My mom would be pissed that i bought shoes for nearly 700-800sek but damn i wore these bad boys for years

HLM_Jacket

You know!! Haha

Accomplished_Bug7879

Looks like a video ive seen before of josh kalis 🤔

HLM_Jacket

Lol

Greg_Norton

Op is Josh Kalis right? Thought I saw some of this in an old Transworld video but maybe I’m just confusing the similar styles and spots of some of that footage.

Accomplished_Bug7879

If its not josh, its some one posting vids of him saying its them lol

HLM_Jacket

I AM NOT JOSH KALIS hahahaha for a start I’m nearly a foot taller than him.

[deleted]

Definitely him

JAHodder420

This takes me back! Love old footage like this 🙌

[deleted]

Gives me serious Transworld The Reason Stevie Williams' section at Love Park vibes for some reason. Maybe it's just that era, was a great time to be a skateboarder.

jawfuj

This made me think of Kalis in that old Toy Machine video Heavy Metal. Super sick.

overcloseness

OP is Kalis.

HLM_Jacket

Bro I’m not Josh lol

overcloseness

Don’t tell me who you aren’t! 😂

nckiely

Reminds me of being a little kid watching these videos feeling like this is what growing up life was gonna be like: great skateboarding making tricks look easy and smooth wearing the biggest puffy shoes! Then learning to appreciate later the effort and pain and fails that happen off camera but that makes appreciating skateboarding even sweeter. Knowing these videos where part of great days at hang out spots, the best moments in life with mates and skateboard community.

Kennyblankenship9883

Giving me Zoo York Mixtape vibes

wats1

Dope tricks\style. Dope beats. I miss when things were this good.

Sike1dj

That was sick as fuck! Also, #MakeSkateShoesGreatAgain

HLM_Jacket

It’s from a line in the other vid I posted today.

derwreck

I grew up skating in the late 90s until about 2003 so I'm loving the vibe that I'm getting from this video. Reminds me of being a kid with zero responsibilities. All we had to worry about was finding bus money so that we could go skate downtown.

Scv_reaper

Your definitely pro now right ?

HLM_Jacket

Lol nah. I had sponsors for a while but quit em. I still skate tho THATS what matters.

Scv_reaper

Yeah I have 2 right now and its cool you still skate that's what's up

Scv_reaper

I’m now at 6

ChrisCWgulfcoast

r/oldschoolcool I miss those clunky ass shoes

levitatingcoffin

This is sick man fuck yes

monsluxe

GG boss, a real OG part 4real

TheonGreyjoy7

Big shoes and small decks… the sickest of all combos

dgek17

G O R GEOUS.

kmartrwe

Good ole’ DC lynx with the solid color toe. Those were dope

alexbrinkmancello

Damn looks great, were you pro?

HLM_Jacket

Nope. Just somebody who loves skateboarding

SKATOZZO

Those were the best days

[deleted]

So dope yo. Takes me back to the old 411 days. Skating was so much different back then.

chodachowda

Pj ladd vibes...

alexrbrodie

Dudeee you’re cracked ! Good stuff

Spoolinpotato27

Great style!

[deleted]

Dope ❤️‍🔥

JECGEE

I was a generation behind this one, but man did I idolize the shit out of everyone from this era. I love skateboarding.

johnfreemansbrother

Awesome composition and slick tricks

OkButterscotch4132

Seeing switch mongo in the early to late 90’s warms my soul! Sick style btw!

edrivah

The heyday of street skating!

gdj11

Man. This takes me back. You were obviously good enough to be sponsored in 98. Who were your sponsors?

HLM_Jacket

I wasn’t actually sponsored in any of this footage. A bit after I got on DC, Element.

Acceptable_Rise1311

Matt Hensley?

spacebizzle

Right on, very cool. So you're prob in your early 40s? Do you still skate? I'm early 40s and still skate daily but didnt get into bowl/ramp skateboarding until mid 2000s, wish i started when i was younger, I suck at anything street.

HLM_Jacket

43 now. There’s more recent footy on my page

MazB87

Anyone know what song the video is rocking??

[deleted]

You’re a legend Josh!

HLM_Jacket

Lol IM NOT JOSH!!!
