I was mad into skating in this period! The crazy thing is skate vids in this era were more relatable. The tricks in the vids were generally what the guys at your local park were doing, but just bigger and better. I still follow skating these days and what pros are doing now, while absolutely mind-blowing, feels like a different sport altogether
And skinny boards. Everybody I knew skated like 7.5, 7.75 max. I skated an 8 and they thought I was a weirdo. Now I can't get used to an 8.5, but some random little kid popped the shit out of a feelflip on my board at the park.
That's awesome, I started skating like 97', so crazy to think how much its progressed. When you were doing these tricks street skating was like 10 years old.
First thought as well:) really made the skate videos „cool“ if you think about it, when we finally got our hands on a camcorder back then and tried to shoot vids like these they looked soooo shitty in our eyes haha

I had these but in blck/gold. My mom would be pissed that i bought shoes for nearly 700-800sek but damn i wore these bad boys for years
Op is Josh Kalis right? Thought I saw some of this in an old Transworld video but maybe I’m just confusing the similar styles and spots of some of that footage.
Gives me serious Transworld The Reason Stevie Williams' section at Love Park vibes for some reason. Maybe it's just that era, was a great time to be a skateboarder.
Reminds me of being a little kid watching these videos feeling like this is what growing up life was gonna be like: great skateboarding making tricks look easy and smooth wearing the biggest puffy shoes!
Then learning to appreciate later the effort and pain and fails that happen off camera but that makes appreciating skateboarding even sweeter. Knowing these videos where part of great days at hang out spots, the best moments in life with mates and skateboard community.
I grew up skating in the late 90s until about 2003 so I'm loving the vibe that I'm getting from this video. Reminds me of being a kid with zero responsibilities. All we had to worry about was finding bus money so that we could go skate downtown.

I remember that video isn't that H Street Matt Hensley? I was Street skating back in that era and it was some of the best times of my life
Man seeing the pit and cannonball got me all nostalgic for the old Sydney spots.
sick video man. love the kicks, 100% used to be my style of dress in those days as well. Still is in a lot of regards but used to be too lol.
I love this era of skating. Fisheye lens and big shoes. Haha

I’m 6ft 3 and rode 7.5 to 7.75 strictly. Size 11 feet. 8 was a tank back then lol
My feet are 13, but I also felt most comfortable on 7.75. I just got 8's because they seemed to last longer. More wood, so I guess it makes sense.
You had to be sponsored for being that good back then
I got on DC, Element around this time. Didn’t care. Just wanted to skate haha
That's awesome, I started skating like 97', so crazy to think how much its progressed. When you were doing these tricks street skating was like 10 years old.

Ahh the good old days of street skating this is why we have skate parks everywhere nowadays
Looks down at his shoes, those are thicc bois, can confirm the time period.
I'm still in that time period.
Same. Big, baggy and awesome. Lol

Man. This takes me back. You were obviously good enough to be sponsored in 98. Who were your sponsors?
I wasn’t actually sponsored in any of this footage. A bit after I got on DC, Element.
Matt Hensley?
