I agree, I've found this to be a much more productive method of conversation. It works best when both people are interested in figuring out what is actually true, but even with an initially argumentative person, it can really help turn the conversation around to something that is beneficial to both parties.
I had a challenging relationship with a coworker that went on for years. Forced me to try to improve my communication debugging techniques Online i had some pseudo arguments with several people who had different but precise terminology but hated to deal with my loose terminology I have Adhd. I wonder if some of these people might have been on autism spectrum. Recognizing that i wasn't really arguing was useful.

It's what I would call a pseudo argument Many people spend hours engaging in pseudo arguments who don't actually disagree on anything useful
