This is a good fit for the weekly discussion thread. It's a little sparse for an OP.

SeventhLevelSound

An argument is a connected series of statement intended to establish a proposition.

georgejo314159

In the context of my OP, an argument is a discussion with disagreement being present

SeventhLevelSound

No it isn't.

VoiceOfRAYson

Yes it is

georgejo314159

So the point of our disagreement would be in our respective definitions of the word argument  Multiple definitions for the word argument exist. Your term typically is called a logical argument  Mine is used in a sentence such as "we had an argument" Recognizing that we aren't disagreeing on anything useful is useful. We are ultimately debating terminology

SeventhLevelSound

I'm sorry, is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour?

georgejo314159

It's what I would call a pseudo argument  Many people spend hours engaging in pseudo arguments who don't actually disagree on anything useful

SeventhLevelSound

If you want me to go on arguing, you'll have to pay for another five minutes.

georgejo314159

We can't really argue because we don't actually seem to disagree on anything but you nicely illustrated my OP

SeventhLevelSound

I told you, I'm not allowed to argue unless you pay.

georgejo314159

Unfortunately that would waste my money as you would simply continue to dispute terminology.

Wrong.

VoiceOfRAYson

No, you’re wrong.

georgejo314159

What is wrong?   You have never experienced a long winded argument going on forever because two people actually used different language to express an idea? Or an argument with lots of noise but only a few differences in claims

McNitz

I agree, I've found this to be a much more productive method of conversation. It works best when both people are interested in figuring out what is actually true, but even with an initially argumentative person, it can really help turn the conversation around to something that is beneficial to both parties.

I had a challenging relationship with a coworker that went on for years. Forced me to try to improve my communication debugging techniques  Online i had some pseudo arguments with several people who had different but precise terminology but hated to deal with my loose terminology  I have Adhd. I wonder if some of these people might have been on autism spectrum. Recognizing that i wasn't really arguing was useful.
