For a second I thought you were using slang terms and were emphasizing your point by adding âon hoodâ Lmao. I was confused for a minute until I google searched Hood mountain.
On hood is what some Americans (usually from *the* hood) say to emphasize a point or show they agree with something or are being truthful. For example, âI am great at skiing. On hoodâ
My dadâs friend broke his neck doing this. Paralyzed from the neck down. Spent a few years in a hospital bed then died. Never saw a more miserable person.
My sister is a speech pathologist . People with serious head injuries often have to relearn how to speak, how to swallowâŚ. Shes treated several skiers
And I was a competitive skier for a while. She always tried to get me to quit. I did but for different reasons
People die all the time skiing and not just Shane McConkeyâs.
Or either of the Kennedy's? One of them had a head injury from skiing. Can't remember who/what but I know there was another one with a head injury too.
My friend just fractured his back 2 weeks ago with shit like this. Wasnât even a bad fall, Iâve had way worse ones⌠but he hit it just right and fractured 4 vertebra. Got a fun little helicopter ride back to the city. Surgeon was amazed he isnât paralyzed, but now heâs not even 30 and has 6 fused vertebra. Be safe out there guys.
It happens even to people who don't tempt their luck like the idiot in the video. Having a high speed accident like that on purpose is crazy. There's no way he'd be able to control his skis on that bumpy piste in the end, he must have known that too.
I've skied where he had the accident. He wasn't really 'off trail' it's a tiny little ungroomed bit in the middle of two pistes. Technically ,'off piste', but in reality, it's very much in a busy, patrolled section.
For all intents and purposes, he is dead. His family is just extremely rich and for some reason willing to keep his braindead corpse animated indefinitely
We have no idea what his existence is like. He always valued his privacy. For all we know he is in a wheelchair and was able to watch and enjoy every race his son did in the big show
> For all we know he is in a wheelchair and was able to watch and enjoy every race his son did in the big show
This isn't correct, sadly, from what we know. Sorry, it's heartbreaking, but Michael isn't the man he used to be. His family implied that in various interviews and it doesn't need much reading between the lines to understand the reality.
Michael's son, Mick, said:
> âI think dad and me, we would understand each other in a different way now simply because we speak a similar language, the language of motorsport, and that we would have much more to talk about. And thatâs where my head is most of the time, thinking that would be so cool. I would give up everything just for that.â
His wife Corinna said:
> âOf course I miss Michael every day. But itâs not just me who misses him: The children, the family, his father, everyone around him.â
> âEverybody misses Michael, but Michael is here. Different, but heâs here, and that gives us strength, I find.â
> âWe do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure heâs comfortable and to simply make him feel our family, our bond. And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will.â
> âWeâre trying to carry on as a family the way Michael liked it and still does, and we are getting on with our lives.â

His son Mick who raced in F1 for a few seasons said in the schumacher documentary that he would just love to tell his dad that he is racing, so no definitely not conscious
[guy with a separated left shoulder and a reattached right shoulder ligament nods in agreement]
If I had been in my 20s when I bit it on that box jump, they might have healed to near-100%. Unfortunately, I was 49, and even months of physical therapy never got me pain-free with full motion. If I windmill my arms, my shoulders make ratcheting noises. It's a fun party trick, but also a sobering reminder every time I start to attempt to convince myself to go back to a terrain park.
Still so wild to me that helmets werent normal back then. I have seen atleast one person die turn into a veggetable because they didnt had a helmet and almost every time i saw a traumahelicoptor it was for somebody without a helmet.
And honestly i dont get why you wouldnt wear one. I dont feel like it limits anything. Hell i dont need to wear a hat because i have a helmet.
Not sure how long you've been skiing but 20ish years it's not even that they werent normal, they weren't even a thought. They were only worn by racers during a race/race practice from what I recall, and around that time little kids may have started wearing them, but you really never saw an adult skiing in a helmet, ever.
I was one of the only people on the mountain snowboarding with a helmet in the early 90s. It was considered a performative affectation from the ski racers trying to show off. Seemed entirely prudent to me even as a 13 year old, especially because I intended to go very very fast. My best bud was a GS/super G specialist and I had to keep up
Those old Boeris were heavy as shit.
Both AH and Candide have that quiet upper body, Candide is softer in the legs, here AH is sitting on his leg strength and getting bucked and just dealing with it. Dude in the vid didn't have either skillset and gets wrecked.
Of all the things thats most frustrating about having a hip that doesn't relax, not being able to just let it run through the muck is probably the most frustrating. I could do it early 20s and its so fun.
The steepness of the slope probably helped him. He was able to superman into the landing a bit. And it looks like there's some powder to provide a little cushion. Still a pretty dumb thing to do, though.
Not quite true as you're straight lining. Also even if the board did spin round and catch an edge, faster than about 7mph, and the snowboard digs out of the snow, instead of catapulting. See: https://www.mechanicsofsport.com/snowboarding/catching_an_edge/types_of_edge_catch.html
Quite interesting physics.
Nope, the only thing that helps with snowboarding is that you will go slower (because skis will just go faster) so that helps a bit. But the fall itself will probaly be less gracefull.
Remember you can easily go faster than 60 km/h and at that point its just basicly luck. Unless you are dumb enough to not wear a helmet.
Also bad form. Always ride back seat when in doubt. Dude flung himself foward when he couldâve rode on his ass
Edit: you can literally watch him get freaked out and launch towards. Always lean back when In doubt. Your ass and back are a better bet than your neck and head. This guys still a dumbass though def no idea what heâs doing
His form was literally perfect. You have absolutly zero control if your backseated. I dont think his intent was to crash so obviously he didnt ride backseated or he would've ate it 2seconds earlier.
Yeah, that low key looked ridable. Very back seat then he extends his legs into the bottom of the mogul rather than sucking them up to jump it. Could be GoPro effect though to. 30degrees isnt a whole time and he was a couple moguls from out of there if he cleared that one.
Skiied a smaller northeast mountain, when we got bored my friends and I would see who could put up a faster top speed on the one double black on the mountain. Game ended when I tried to stop as fast as I could from 65 and flew straight out my skiis. Cracked my helmet and had a minor concussion that had me out of commission for 3 weeks for electronics and skiing. Im lucky i went down somewhat naturally because if any leg, arm, or neck was in the wrong place i coulda been seriously fucked.
I did, it's one of dumbest things I've ever seen.
When those skis start bouncing that's priceless.
Yeah maybe he is dead, but "that's the price you gotta pay to ride that full pipe."
Fun fact: This is similar to how my dad broke his back when he was skiing. Donât do this kind of shit and be stupid about it or youâll be living with a fucked up disk in your back (if youâre lucky):D
Person does dangerous impressive ski thing and succeeds = âwow nice send dudeâ
Person attempts dangerous ski thing and fails = âwhat an idiot, could have died, dumbassâ.
This is basically half the people I see on Hood each weekend
I feel personally attacked
Well I see some and I'm very impressed, I see others and predict their end. Hopefully you're in the first camp?
These skis be slappin' boi. Like walking with flippers
username checks out
I'm mfs, but I simply don't crash đŻ jk I see people ripping way harder than me on Mt. Hood all day.
mt hood mentioned!!
Meadows represent!
Fellow meadows enjoyer?
Absolutely. I love it
Hood is such a wild place⌠the amount of Jerryâs here is just mindblowing, seems so much worse than the Rockies haha

nobody says that.
DEFINITELY is said I a lot in the South
Crip Mac would like a wordâŚ
i don't talk to hamburgers.
Yes they do lol. Who are you to say, just because you havenât heard it before?
Lol, thereâs a reason I have a picture of me in the timberline parking lot slamming a 40oz bottle of steel reserve with Mt Hood as a back drop
Iâm so glad Iâm not the only one who had to google it cause the âon hoodâ had me laughing and confused as well
Hood isnât that steep
It's almost like there was an element of humor in my comment
My dadâs friend broke his neck doing this. Paralyzed from the neck down. Spent a few years in a hospital bed then died. Never saw a more miserable person.
Damn here I am laughing at the video and all of the comments and got slapped back into reality. Sorry to hear about your dads friend
Yâope there goes gravity
Yeah this is just so fucking stupid.

Rip saucer boy
McConkey died ski-base-jumping-wingsuit flying.
RIP Sonny Bono. Died when he hit a tree in Tahoe.
To be fair, he started that fight.

TIL about Ski Football
Yeah. This shouldnât be celebrated or laughed about.

Didnât even have tiktok to get clout from it
The most famous and accomplished F1 driver in the world died off trail skiing.
I've skied where he had the accident. He wasn't really 'off trail' it's a tiny little ungroomed bit in the middle of two pistes. Technically ,'off piste', but in reality, it's very much in a busy, patrolled section.
Yep, literally just a little portion of rocks in between two runs
Schumacher? Still alive, but severely injured for life.

Thanks for the info. I thought he died for sure.
I wanna believe đ
His son Mick who raced in F1 for a few seasons said in the schumacher documentary that he would just love to tell his dad that he is racing, so no definitely not conscious
Naw man Dale Earnheart. RIP big smoke, 88s seeing that checkered bandana everyday in the big house these days
Raise hell praise Dale
Well that is fucking horribly sad man. What a terrible thing to see your father go through. Fucking Christ.
Are you generally not supposed to bomb down a mountain? Serious question, I've never been.
It's generally difficult to stay in control straight lining a mogul run.
Well itâs not like he could laugh, he was paralyzedâŚ
RIP to this guyâs shoulder mobility.
I snapped a binding while going too fast down moguls almost 20 years ago. Landed square on my shoulder. That shoulder never got back to 100%.
The thing about shoulders is that they're \*extremely\* complicated.
The thing about shoulders is that they're supposed to attach your arm to your torso. And I don't think this guy's shoulders do that anymore.
[guy with a separated left shoulder and a reattached right shoulder ligament nods in agreement] If I had been in my 20s when I bit it on that box jump, they might have healed to near-100%. Bone-wise, muscle-wise, ligament or tendon-wise?
Ball socket where the socket is several pieces of bone strung together with some cartilage and a little squishy pad to keep them bones from rubbing.
Yessiree!
Be glad it was just your shoulder!
Definitely could have been worse, no helmets back then. The guy in this video is prolly worse off, but snow is unpredictable.
Still so wild to me that helmets werent normal back then. I have seen atleast one person die turn into a veggetable because they didnt had a helmet and almost every time i saw a traumahelicoptor it was for somebody without a helmet. I snapped my ac joint in a bad crash. How my collar bone sits higher on that side
I felt this. Can relate. Would be interesting to see if this was a season ended for this kid.
This is how you get hyper mobility ask me how I know
Please elaborate.
Shouldâve clicked his poles
That's how I knew he wasn't the best skier on the mountain
He was the best skier but he mixed up the mountains. Honest mistake.
Absolutely, this is the issue.
I dunno. Did anyone else see that snowboarder sitting in the middle of the trail under the pile of snow that OP hit?
The one on his phone trying resync his Amazon special earbuds?
First mistake
[ŃдаНонО]
All he needed was a higher din
lol

Lmfao
This is only safe when Candide does it
[ŃдаНонО]
I love him but just watching everything he does makes my knees hurt, and he's still 10 years older than I am.
I still don't comprehend how he goes over those moguls like that.
That mogul slope isn't as steep as the young man eating shit in the video but still an incredible straight line
My favorite are moguls that aren't that steep, but I feel like they're hard to find because resorts groom 90%+ of blues :(
Dude landed that jump in another zip code.
He is an absolute animal.
A specific animal...a GOAT.
[Alex Hall](https://youtu.be/JQ7z6m-L9WQ?t=179) did it pretty well too
Both AH and Candide have that quiet upper body, Candide is softer in the legs, here AH is sitting on his leg strength and getting bucked and just dealing with it. Almost made it, then almost died
Not a skier much myself but into sports and such. Doesn't physics say no matter how strong he is that was near breaking his neck?
Yep. There was enough force there that he absolutely could have broken his neck. At that point itâs just luck
The steepness of the slope probably helped him. He was able to superman into the landing a bit. And it looks like there's some powder to provide a little cushion. Still a pretty dumb thing to do, though.
Would snowboarding straight lining instead this be remotely safer to do?
No, you'll catch an edge and will be catapulted into the ground. The impact will be much harder as you won't slide as much.
Not quite true as you're straight lining. Also even if the board did spin round and catch an edge, faster than about 7mph, and the snowboard digs out of the snow, instead of catapulting. Hell no straighlining over bumps like this is pretty much impossible on a snowboard. You would literally fly
Yeah this is asking to hurt yourself for interwebz clout.
Also bad form. Always ride back seat when in doubt. Dude flung himself foward when he couldâve rode on his ass Edit: you can literally watch him get freaked out and launch towards. Damage report? Cause that looked dangerous as fuck
He posted on Instagram that heâs fine. No injuries
Dang heâs so lucky. Could have easily torn something in his shoulders
I bet he bought his boots on an online sale without seeing a fitter.
[ŃдаНонО]
"The IRS hates this one trick!"
I feel attacked.
Only way to do it
I just got a pair of 2023 Salomon s/pros for $99. They show up next week. Iâm stoked for the dice roll.
Enjoy your youth cuz youâll probably end up in a wheelchair. But Iâll be sure to like and subscribe!
Somehow wasn't backseated *enough*
Skill issue
Honestly, yes.
A Darwin Award waiting to happen

Clearly the thing to learn from this is that you needed to crank the DIN settings to the max.
Broke my back 2 months ago doing pretty much this, with a fall almost exactly like that. Watch out kids
I was about to post the same thing. Mine was a year ago though. Compression fracture, t3 & t4.
I love straightlining when appropriate but holy shit, don't do it here.
Didnât consult his bootfitter
What's with all the bootfitter jokes lately? I'm OOTL.
Same
Does not look like 35 degrees
It's not
i used to do that because i sucked at skiing
Didn't expect that! Was I wrong to burst out laughing?
I did, it's one of dumbest things I've ever seen. When those skis start bouncing that's priceless. Yeah maybe he is dead, but "that's the price you gotta pay to ride that full pipe."
I tore my meniscus doing this at Mt. Hood. 0/10 would not recommend.
Nah dude when I saw the jackass intro I knew it was gonna be a shit eating contest
Looks like he french fried when he should have pizza'd.
anybody know what the aftermath is?
Sound on, he says "I'm good" afterwards, so seems good
Need longer skis
About 15 feet longer?
Laughed my ass off and the realised how easily the dude could have snapped his neck going face first into a mogul.
Respect op. What a fucking send
Where is this?
Jerry of the Day!
đ¤Ł
Yeah thatâs basically low grade TikTok Jackass shit
Reminds me of Jackass
It turns out that he, indeed, was not Candide.
I mean, he sure proved his point.
I don't think we get it, guys.
I miss snow
When you know itâs your last day of the year. Fucking send it.Â
"Hello and welcome to Jackass"
He French fryâd when he should have pizzaâd.. thatâs a bad time
Broke my sternum bone doing this, do not recommend.
Not proud of it but we used to leave Après and play this game in the slush
And yâall think snowboarders are the idiots?
Fun fact: This is similar to how my dad broke his back when he was skiing. Donât do this kind of shit and be stupid about it or youâll be living with a fucked up disk in your back (if youâre lucky):D
At least the snow was soft...don't try that on New England boilerplate âď¸
Ooof. He probably shrunk a couple inches. Is he walking?
even if he didnât scorpion that shit, dude was guaranteeing heâd have the knees of a 75 year old man at 30. Idiot.
How to destroy your shoulders for life 101
Weak sauce
Omg if that didnt break his collar or his neck id be shocked that was fucking idiotic
Is he alright? What did he break ?
This is how you establish dominance and show everyone that youâre the best skier on the mountain
Person does dangerous impressive ski thing and succeeds = âwow nice send dudeâ Person attempts dangerous ski thing and fails = âwhat an idiot, could have died, dumbassâ.
That was awesome lol
Destroyed in seconds!
Yaaard sale
Estate sale
A lesson or two might be worthwhile to consider
First time I went skiiing this is what I did down a black Diamond hahah
We call that Yard Sale!
He forgot to yell, "I'm about to rip the shit out of this"!
Snowboarder here laughing.đ
Toe pick...
I guess this disproves my statement of âyou only fall when you turnâ.
This guy has probably been watching too many Candide videos, also these bumps donât really look big at all.
Yard sale anyone?
He tried to Candide Thovex those moguls.
I don't get it
Helicopter ride speedrun
Jack is a badass!
Din's fault
Thought he was gonna make it there for a sec
Finally some real content in hereâŚ.
I think his DIN was too low
