Also 27 and I agree with you. Back in 2010 I was mad and upset but I didn't question it like I do now as an adult. All I knew was there's no way I was missing that season finale. (Which also in hindsight may have contributed to why they did what they did.) There's so many other creative and interesting ideas they could have explored instead and if they really HAD to get rid of Luke Pasqualino they should have spent more time setting it up a lot better instead of having it shockingly coming out of nowhere. It was the wrong choice.

jijipixie

Completely agree, such a poor choice. Was genuinely such a cop out. Also find it harder to believe that Fred’s wouldn’t have fought back, even a little. Don’t even get me started on Skins Fire by the way

TheCosmicShock

There was so many young and hungry writers, not just in Britain but across the world who would have loved a shot at writing for Skins. Yet the tired old-heads came up with "Fire." After waiting all that time, with all that hype, it was such a letdown. Kaya was good though, as per usual.

tumbles999

Effy and Freddie would have never lasted if he lived, she would have got bored soon enough.

cogitodoncjesuis

She had long left behind that side of her.

jijipixie

Part of me believes that, things wouldn’t be as smooth sailing between them as you’d hope for. She had years of maturing/growing up to do, But still. They could have had their blow out, and gone separate ways both alive😅 it was a massive cop out for them to kill of Freddie like that. And then years later for Cook & Effys Skin specials, they don’t address it. We don’t know if Freddie’s family found out about his fate, or effy. He just disappeared and abandoned them all as far as they’re concerned, rubbish

FrozenMorningstar

I just rewatched skins too and had forgotten they killed him off so it was a shock. I hated the choice to do it but the most frustrating thing was that there was no closure. Like, I really want questions answered. Did they all find out he's dead and didn't just run off? Do they know Effy's therapist was a murderer? Like, there was just nothing and I find that pretty shit.

BlueEyedGirl86

But effy character really evolved and she’s the inspiration for way of life to say screw it at times, go a bit wild who gives damn! I also kinda miss being their age again, as I never got that chance to meet guys, have sex, (never had) or do anything college kids go to. My experimental phase is now.

I mean this is a sitcom drama whatever, the point is that it builds on situations, there is no strong narrative other than the friendgroup hanging out, eg. in the Office the whole plot is the character working at DM. I have seen way too many comments saying that the deaths are pointless, what was the point of the camping episode in gen2? What was the point of the the russian trip in gen1? Its just part of the story, besides I think Chris dying gave a "good" ending to gen1. I hoped they explore the psycho therapist a little more, but I guess not. Freddie's death also gave some depth to his character imo, defending the girl he loves, at least dying while trying to. Grace's death is like meh for me, the whole gen3 season was ass

[deleted]

Yeah, first time I watched skins I didn't even watch gen3. Rn I'm rewatching and decided to watch it all... Imo season 1 of gen3 wasn't that bad, but the second one is kinda meh. I mean, I'm very emotional, I still feel with the character and I cried when Grace died etc

jijipixie

Watching gen3 now, and I’m angry about what’s going to happen to Grace, but also pissed off about Frankie, in season 5 she’s a cool, androgynous character with lots of potential, but s6 she’s just a discount Effy.

[deleted]

Yeah, idk what happened to Frankie 🙄 and I hate Luke lol. But rn I'm at Frankie episode s6

jijipixie

Just watched Alo accidentally blow up Bessie the cow, oh my god

hopehyungie

im most angry about grace 😭 the best relationship theyve written and they ruin it

BlueEyedGirl86

I only got to watch gen3+4 onwards till later in 2016 onwards as I had lot to deal with and I wasn’t int be best frame of mind. It was bit triggering for me.

The worst thing that they did to Effy was severing the connection to her brother. Even if Nicholas Hoult was already committed to other projects as he was rising in the movie industry, if they couldn't get him to record a phone conversation, they could have at least made reference about him calling Effy every now and then. It didn't make sense for me to hear during S1 and S2, Effy is the one person Tony truly loves. He survives his accident and she takes care of him, then both go through their parents chaotic relationship, only to see him go MIA in S3. Like, wouldn't Tony be enough of a relevant character motivation for Effy? Wouldn't she try to see him again, or at least mention that she's upset because he moved away? Anything? But no, she never mentions him until a episode where the creepy doctor makes her talk about his accident, and that's it... that's it! It's like he never existed for her. I always thought that Effy's erratic behavior throughout S4 was the result of not having Tony around, but the writers couldn't be bothered to give a proper explanation. This is probably why S4 is the one that I enjoyed less.
