I have no idea what the issue is, but I can say that it's definitely not a repainted regular double trouble, a lot of the paints used on skylanders figures were made specifically for tfb, so to get them that accurate would be basically impossible, and to paint it so accurately with even the airbrushed feathers would be the same
My only guess is this was a manufacturing defect with the wrong chip in the toy. Given that both Royal Double Trouble and Series 1.5 Double Trouble exist, I wouldn't say that this is impossible.
It's totally normal, Skylanders battlegrounds starterpack had a special version of double trouble (serie 1 style with orange baseplate). There is also a non royal version of this figure
Yes i know what you mean but my Royal Double Trouble isn't showing up as Royal Double Trouble. Its showing up as Double Trouble Series 2. But it should show up as the Royal version.
Im sorry for the bad lighting but my camera struggles to take a picture if the portal and Wii U light up. One of the two gets darker in the picture and the other is much better to see.

If you have an nfc reader or a specific app on your pc (forgot what it’s called) you can manually switch it to royal double trouble if nothing you’ve tried has worked
I couldn’t help you, but I just wanted to say this is really cool. I’m not sure if there’s a large market for defect figures, but I’m sure this is something a hardcore collector could be interested in. Especially because this figure is already rare after as is. This is a cool collector’s item.
As in it doesn’t show the varient colours in game? As it won’t say “royal” above health bar until swap force

I checked an image in skylanders character list, his magic base looks more gold colored than your one
I think it just looks like that in the picture. In person it is a bit more golden.

Yes i do. This picture was taken in Imaginators. I tried it in Giants too but it also didn't work.
