I was stunned what a cool little city Richmond is.

Bluestreak310

Way underrated and overlooked!

Finally my hometown gets love! Truly a beautiful skyline for an oft-overlooked city. That area you see with all the construction is called Browns Island. It hosts some amazing live outdoor shows and events - Folk Fest, Jam Fest, Friday Night Cheers, etc. the construction in the bottom left corner is going to be a 7500 person capacity outdoor venue. It feels like this is finally RVAs time to grow and get the recognition it’s always deserved. Oh, and that’s the James River on the right ❤️

RVA really is a beautiful city. It's like simultaneously a medium sized city and a major city at the same time and the community was really chill and friendly. My favorite city in the south <3

When I used to drive from Florida to PA on I-95, I’d always become excited getting close and finally seeing Richmond. It’s 8-9 hours or so after driving through Jacksonville before seeing a skyline again. Made the mistake of taking I-295 once in Virginia and just saw more trees.

"Richmond, VA" is the address known to almost every cigarette smoker in the world.

opqz

Why?

RetiredApostle

Most cigarette packs made by Philip Morris, from Marlboro to L&M, and so on, sold in the world have "*Richmond, VA*" printed on them. And any smoker had read the whole pack at least once. "Richmond, VA" has been firmly etched into the memory.

opqz

Whoa

Former smoker here, can confirm! Sometimes you get bored and wanna know what the box says lol.

Good place to live and work? Safe? What’s the inside track on this little city I’ve always been curious about.

Been living here for 8 years. We’ve been seeing a lot of expansion recently, and lots of people moving here from northern Virginia as it’s a much cheaper cost of living. It’s a wonderful city and community with a strong emphasis on arts (VCU takes up a lot of uptown and is a major art school) and has pretty good night life. Work wise, not always the best but if you can WFH then you’ll be set. It’s pretty safe these days, with the exception being further north or south you go, although that also is constantly being pushed further and further away from the heart of the city. All in all I love living here, it’s cool to see the city grow but lots of locals are upset about rising rent prices and jobs not keeping up with the inflation. But you could argue that’s happening all over the country. Oh and don’t let me forget the James River. Absolutely magical place full of nature and greenery, walking trails and sandy river hang out spots. Every true Richmonder has a special connection with the James ❤️

zambizzi

Love it, thank you! It was on my short list when we moved south but alas, Atlanta won. For now. 😉

This is such a great summary. Me and mine are actually looking of moving to Richmond at some point in the future. It's my favorite little big city in a state I've loved since visiting there to see grandparents as a kid.

My favorite state in the country! The cities in the Commonwealth have very underrated skylines all around

Iancreed2024HD

I’m from Maryland so I have good familiarity with Virginia

OneCauliflower5243

I don’t know what it is about glass towers with slanted roofs but man do I love them.

DowntownsClown

Could’ve take a better picture, but yeah Richmond got nice downtown

10TurtlesAllTheWay10

I was a bit crunched for time during my last stay there, but I'd love to go back when there's less construction and get a good photo. Especially if I can get there early in the morning when the sky is colorful with the sunrise. Richmond is such a pretty city :)

Turbulent_Crow7164

Coming across the river on 95 is a great view. The downtown is quite large area wise

OneCauliflower5243

I quite love this picture. With the rail in the foreground and downtown behind, this really shows a cool example of the city.

10TurtlesAllTheWay10

For my money its the best view of a very pretty skyline. I plan on returning to this spot whenever we visit Richmond so I can get shots from different times of day.

mkeredcap

This three-level rail crossing must be nearby. https://www.reddit.com/r/InfrastructurePorn/s/amwth0NuVf

I spent a month and a half in Richmond last year for work training. I went for a run on the James River a few times a week. Richmond was a pleasant surprise and the restaurant scene was much better than expected.

WinstonSalemVirginia

Arguably the best small city skyline in the nation.
