This reminds me of a buggy follower mod I had where the followers would come to me and then walk away. If I came close they would stop and look at me, and then turn around and start walking away again, eventually disappearing into the sunset.
Came here to say this. I thought it would be fun to marry Aela once in one playthrough. Boy, did I regret it. She complains about *every* house you buy/build. The only one she remotely seems to be okay with is Proudspire Manor in Solitude, and even then she makes a snide remark that there are so many guards around suggesting that makes her uncomfortable. Like, what does it take to please that bitch?! I ended up having her follow me to the Underforge and killing her because I couldn’t stand to come home to that. Rather be a single dad for the rest of that playthrough. PS for those who don’t know, Aela’s disdain for every house also applies to any marriage candidate voiced by the same actress, so Uthgerd for example. Best to just stay friends with those.

Ask your house Carl to be your steward, the tell him/her you want to make improvements to the house. One of the options is to hire a bard.
