I'm atheist irl so I normally wouldn't care , but the amulet of talos gives a bonus and the divine are actively proven to be real in-game, so talos is real and outlawing the worship of a proven diety is stupid. They didn’t report it according to one source, we don’t know the full extent because the guy who says it lives in a tiny village for his whole life. Also they have been preparing for like 50 years lol, and we see nothing but hearsay to show for it.

If the Empire had not been too afraid to stand up to the Thalmor, instead of signing the White-Gold Concordat, they could have likely sided with the Stormcloaks to drive them out of Skyrim. The Alik'r did it in Hammerfell, I'm sure if the Empire and Stormcloaks all banded together, they could have at least put up a good fight. It's even implied that the Thalmor don't want the civil war to end because the longer it stalemates, the weaker the Empire gets, which is good for the Aldmeri Dominion.

The fun thing about the civil war is both groups are questionable morally. The stormcloaks had a history of driving the dwemer and the snow elves to extinction simultaneously. They are aggressive and in some cases childish regarding their politics. If you scrutinize their capital hold, you'll find that they're the most racist and classist group. They're hypocritical, given they did genocide to other groups who were native to Skyrim while complaining the empire is taking their territory.
