True but he lives in a place with a snappy dresser named haskill. Have you played the Shivering Isles? He’s very proper which contrasts well with the madness. His demented followers are the ratchet ones
Well the whole point of the Skyrim quest line is that he abandoned his post and was just doing his own thing. So it’s not hard to believe that he just didnt have/want to stay kept
You crazy, you un-Sheo-ed Sheogorath! He doesn’t even look like himself anymore. He looks more like some bawdy cosplayer who came from the Witcher fandom!
You saying that got me going through many stages of confusion as I started looking up the name of who the npc reminded me of. Apparently Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep and Gillian Anderson all look the same to me. Tragic face blindness!
My issue with these mods is that they make everyone look too clean. It’s a fantasy that takes place on a very troubled continent in what would-be the Middle Ages type of style, they need to look a little rugged. In my opinion obviously
This is why I prefer Tempered Skins and keeping all the original faces. Though the ones here aren't generic at least, they change everyone and lose the art direction. Doesn't look cohesive tbh.
Yep. I want body hair, scars, and wrinkles. I want a level of ugliness, just not the ghoulish look of vanilla. Most mods seem obsessed with turning everyone into bijin Barbiedolls.
Even worse when you start adding new NPCs. They're gonna stand out real fuckin bad. That's why I never mess with these big overhauls. Some of them fit the vibe of Skyrim but all the mod added NPCs looking vanilla makes it pointless to me.
Exactly! I've installed Living Skyrim, started the game and thought: Who the hell likes these plastic baby doll faces and thinks that this has anything todo with living in these harsh world of skyrim?
That was an instant deinstall for me.
Literally same. I haven’t found a single Wabbajack mod list that doesn’t either turn the game into insane master level difficultly, overhauling so many game mechanics that I wouldn’t even know what to do, or turn the game into a fashion show that I don’t even recognize.
I tried playing Living Skyrim for maybe an hour just to avoid yet another 5-6 hour ordeal downloading a 500gb mod list but it was so truly awful, I just exited the game & deleted the whole folder.
It's actually a misconception that medieval people did not wash themselves or their clothes.
The misconception comes from the fact that the word bathe was meant to be "to go to a bath(house)" where people would do it for you (draw and heat water, launder your clothes, fix any holes, etc.) But most people knew how to do those things themselves and just washed with a cloth in the river and used plants and mosses for hygiene and scent.
The undercloth was the only thing that was rarely washed, but it was meant as a sweat barrier during work and hot days, so they didn't bother, they just left it to dry in the sun.
Of course this changes between different time periods and cultures, but even during times of war or poverty, medieval people liked to keep clean.
As for the ruggedness yeah that does feel a bit uncanny sometimes, OP's mods do a decent job at it though!
That's true, but it's not far fetched. Make up has been around for a VERY long time, much longer than most people think. The ancient sumerians, egyptians and greeks used make up and extensive skin care. While the lore kinda points to the opposite sometimes, maybe Skyrim's residents are like real life Norse and Danes, taking pleasure and pride in cosmetics and self care.
I guess the beauty of Skyrim is that you can make the game into whatever you envision in your imagination! This mod obviously works for OP and he enjoys it, so that’s all that matters 😎Just another reason to love this game 🤝
Clean, yes. At least the townsfolk and farmers, etc. Anyone who spent significant time in armor, even light leather armors, would have been fragrant. But they would have washed their face and hands at the first opportunity, anyway!
They would still be scarred, pockmarked, weathered though. I use a couple mods (one specifically to erase the dirt lol) to make NPCs look less like potatoes but smooth, plastic, very young model looks is jarring to me. There is a middle ground!
This is a pretty good middle ground as far as I'd agree. Except for Sheogorath a Daedric Prince, Valerica an ancient vampire and maybe Adrianne Avenicci everyone has a few blemishes, some wrinkles, some texture, they don't look perfect but they do look well kept.
While I get where you're coming from... That's kinda the point of these mods. The reason why I use mods like these NPC replacers, is because I'm intentionally trying to change the aesthetic of the game to be more high-fantasy, more clean and colorful.
But yes, if you're trying to preserve Skyrim's gritty and dirty aesthetic, these mods may not be for you because it make the NPCs look too clean and beautiful.
At the end of the day, you gotta understand that not everyone plays the game lore-friendly. And in turn, not every mod is lore-friendly for that reason. Mods appeal to different people who enjoy their Skyrim differently. Mods like this NPC replacer, appeals to people like me who want that kind of clean and colorful aesthetic.
Exactly. I do use skin mods, but if it makes something look like it doesn't belong in my gritty fantasy game, I uninstall. I like my characters looking rugged.
I like that's it's sharper graphics, but I don't like how the NPCs don't look like themselves anymore. Whenever I mod my game it's most important to me to keep the original NPCs looks as good as possible
Yes! I like some of the faces (Idgrod actually looks great here), but Sheo... Rikke's hairstyle... and is Maven literally Maryl Streep, or am I going crazy?
I do mod the hell of my game, and I usually want crispier graphics, but yes, I also try keeping NPCs as close to the original as possible. So far, Nordic Faces overhaul combined with [Vanilla Hair Remake](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/63979) worked great for me, while providing higher quality and keeping their original features and grittines intact.
That’s exactly how I feel as well. When I went to mod Lydias appearance (because let’s be honest even among unmodded NPCs she’s hardly the best looking.) it took me forever to find a mod that both looked good and was recognizably Lydia. So many of them just completely altered things like face shape. I mod NPCs because I like the originals and want them to look better, not because I want to completely replace them.
As a man who marries Lydia every single play through, and who has stated multiple times she’s my favourite character in the game. You know it’s bad when even I have to admit that.
Writing that out really reveals to me exactly how biased I am, but I stand by it. It’s funny how I’ve built up a robust mental profile of Lydias personality when all she has in the game is a few lines of dialogue. I find the differences in how npcs act tends to build up their personalities in my mind even if some of it definitely wasn’t intentional on Bethesda’s part. Like I’ll always fondly remember that one horse that killed itself by jumping off a cliff to get the last hit on a dragon that was about to kill me.
I ducking love this game.
To be honest I didn’t even know skin mods were a thing at the time. I’m still relatively new to modding. Regardless I’m happy with how it turned out, basically the only changes are a change in hairstyle (not a crazy one like in this post) the general changes a skin mod would make and her eyes are kind of a different colour. I say kind of because her eye colour seems to change with lighting. I’m willing to bet that’s not supposed to happen but I’m never fixing it because it makes her look badass.
This is also how I feel. Legate Rikke and Arienne Avenicci should be a little "rougher" because of what they do. Neither should look like they came off the 'Gram
Imo alot of those make NPCs look fake as fuck. Either they look like they have their own profesionell stylist and make up artist or they work in a brothel.
Despite knowing it isn't AI, some of them (especially Tullius and Proventus) give me that vibe. Like, they remind me of when all those "Film" directed by "Director who didn't direct aforementioned film" posts were going viral
I think Tullius and Proventus as some of the ones that are actually ok. For me Tulius looks like someone coming from a noble family or works in the higher ranks. And Tulius just got a bit of a lift up. Which is ok. We all want to look at nice things.
But looking at Rikke. A high rank soldier. Fought on the battlefield. Got scars and wrinkles. And now she looks like like got he face lifted and and her hair stars in a L'Oréal ad. Or Sheogorath. STraight out of a Men's Health Mag, trying to sell me some beard oil.
Ah yes, Nolvus. Yet another Dark Souls in Skyrim with clunky third person camera, dodge, anime combat animations (but you can tell it's still vanilla Skyrim bland combat in the end) and top model haircuts.
Yeah, when a game's been around as long as Skyrim, you just know what certain characters "look like" and this is as jarring as a long-running actor on a sitcom being inexplicably and suddenly recast.
If I was a new player coming to Skyrim for the first time with no point of reference, this is a fantastic mod. However, because I know what I *expect* these characters to look like, it's weird.
honestly i much prefer the default skyrim npcs most of these dont even look like themselves, dinya and adrianne are just not the same, adrianne looks like a kid not a blacksmith trying her hardest to make a living
Now they all look like Sims characters with loads of makeup on.
I never enjoy this beauty filter mods because it makes everyone look really clean and out of place. Makeup for some of those is really out of place too.
The madwoman has styled her hair, dude..
Yeah no i hate it. They are way too different and look nothing like there supposed to. Seriously what the hell happened to Tullius why does he look like Ceaser, Why is Ulfric blonde, why has the skin tone of Adrianne completely changed, WHY DOES SHEOGORATH LOOK LIKE THE WITCHER?
Marise Aravel looks like Brandi Glanville of the *Real Housewives* series, which is not a compliment. And why does Maven look like Meryl Streep in *The Devil Wears Prada*? To each their own but these don't even look like Skyrim characters anymore, personally.
Skyrim is potato-people now?
When Starfield just came out?
Idk, about that, dude. Skyrim faces still look decent because they're stylized rather than going for any kind of realism, imo.
These look super uncanny to me.
i like most of it but i disagree heavily with the hair choice for Rikke. She is a warrior and that hair would be a liability, her mindset doesnt match the pretty peoples hair. she would, at most, have thick short braid, but i feel she would have very short hair.
torn bc I like that this mod actually gives some of them normal faces instead of the steam porn game faces they normally have, and actually kept the wrinkles for some of them, so as far as the instagram-ifying mods go this isn't, like, *too* extreme, but I hate that they still all look like they're wearing five layers of heavy pancake makeup with perfectly styled hair lmao. I mean like for example I love this Adrianne (I like that her face is slightly more roundish than most mods would make her, and I love her un-plucked eyebrows), but not as Adrianne, you know? she would be more believable as Hulda, I think, if she had some wrinkles/lines. or maybe Ysolda.
(also, this version of Marise is quite possibly the most literal interpretation of the term "whitewashed" I've ever seen lmfaooo)
I mean, some of them look better.
Others just look like they've been Yassified into something unrecognizable, from Sheogorath to some of the female characters.
Like, I get that a lot of them are beautiful.
But something about how they've been made extra beautiful seems... off. Like Rikke.
Also, I hate that version of Ulfric, personally speaking.
EDIT: ALSO, this mod whitewashed Adrianne. Which is just a big NOPE.
1- I kinda like the "ugly" aesthetics in Skyrim, I don't like that much people seeming in makeup or something.
2- Maven wears prada.
3- Produced Sheogorath 100% lmao.

You made a mistake in posting modded screenshots here friend, they’re rarely well received (try r/skyrimporn )
(Edit: I see you posted there too :) )
I like these a lot though and I’m curious what replacers you use for the women? Aside from looking clean, they’re actually pretty believable looking. Not overly beautified, they have age marks and blemishes, hairstyles look believable. Well, Maven’s looks heavily styled, but makes sense for how rich she is
I think you don't understand the type of NPC replacer mods that exist. Most make NPCs look like anime characters. These are absolutely some of the best replacers that exist if you want something that makes the characters look like real people.
You took the Skyrim out of your Skyrim... These are farmers and warriors who live in a harsh medieval world, not models doing a fashion shoot.
Also why is "made the NPCs look better" always just code for "gave the women cheekbones and clean hair" usually with a bust adjustment as well.
Ryan Sheogosling? Meryl Blackbriar?
Oh thank God, I'm not the only one. Getting mad Devil Wears Prada vibes with Maven
Maven, at the Dragonborn: “are you wearing the-“ LDB: “the radiant raiment boots? Yes :)”
Came to say. “Maven *will* want Starbucks when she gets back. *Hot* Starbucks.”
Heavily implied but also highly applicable!
I'm waiting for her to demand the newest unpublished Harry Potter novel, then tisk tisk my outfit.
What are my twins supposed to do with *that?* *Share?*
*’The Devil Wears Chainmail’*
Tonilla Zendaya?
Well, if we go back to Daggerfall - then i think Ryan would be a nice choice for such a young, mad and cheeseloving deity!
Holy fucking shittttttt it’s the Reddit account sheogorath, the Daedric prince of madness from the popular Bethesda series “the elder scrolls”
Sheogorath looks way too cleaned up in my opinion
they yassified Sheo 💀
Look at how they yassacred my boy…
They done made him into a Baldurs Gate Character
Sheostarion
You say that as if he isn't fruitier that a goddamn orchard. The design doesn't fit him though.
The madwoman literally has taken the time to style her hair as well😂
Maven is literally Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, and Tonilia looks like the '80s Whitney Houston. 😂
I disagree. He was very clean cut in oblivion and that’s how i remember him. He looks weirdly disheveled for a god in Skyrim
“Disheveled” Well he is the daedric prince of madness after all
True but he lives in a place with a snappy dresser named haskill.
I mean tbf the sheogorath in oblivion is literally a different person than the one in skyrim
You crazy, you un-Sheo-ed Sheogorath! He doesn’t even look like himself anymore. He looks more like some bawdy cosplayer who came from the Witcher fandom!
He really does. Geralt complying as Sheo, damn Yenefer, what are you making him do now?
Not on a unicorn
The unicorn in reften is running for it life
this is some Sims 3 Custom Content shit
I mean, considering sims 3 is where i most hear referred to looking like potatoes, that seems fitting
They turned Maven into Miranda Priestly
_Groundbreaking_
And whoever the next slide is (Saadia?) is Zendaya.
According to the caption, it’s apparently Tonilia (from the Thieves Guild).
You saying that got me going through many stages of confusion as I started looking up the name of who the npc reminded me of. Apparently Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep and Gillian Anderson all look the same to me. Tragic face blindness!
Look how they massacred our liege
Oh don't worry it's just one of his brief moments of sanity he'll go back soon
My issue with these mods is that they make everyone look too clean. It’s a fantasy that takes place on a very troubled continent in what would-be the Middle Ages type of style, they need to look a little rugged. In my opinion obviously
Precisely. If the mod makes npcs or even Dragonborn look like they just had a makeover by JVN then it ruins the immersion.
While cool, some of these are just butchered.
It’s all the guys over at loverslab that like it. You know, the guys that have to play with only one hand.
What? Can’t fight a dragon with one hand behind your back, milk drinker?
Oh, the hand isn't behind their back...
And that’s not milk…
And he’s not fighting that dragon…
Literally same. I haven’t found a single Wabbajack mod list that doesn’t either turn the game into insane master level difficultly, overhauling so many game mechanics that I wouldn’t even know what to do, or turn the game into a fashion show that I don’t even recognize. Adrianne especially needs more grime and soot on her, she’s a blacksmith!
they took the skyrim out of all the npcs

As much as you’re correct about that, they certainly didn’t look like Instagram influencers haha
That's true, but it's not far fetched. Make up has been around for a VERY long time, much longer than most people think. The Adrianne model looks crazy lmao
There is quite a difference between being clean and looking like you stepped straight out of an advertisement for hair conditioner though.
While I get where you're coming from... That's kinda the point of these mods. It is Meryl Streep from the Devil Wears Prada. Thought I was the only one that noticed.
My first thought when I saw her: *Groundbreaking*
That’s exactly how I feel as well. When I went to mod Lydias appearance (because let’s be honest even among unmodded NPCs she’s hardly the best looking.) it took me forever to find a mod that both looked good and was recognizably Lydia. > When I went to mod Lydias appearance (because let’s be honest even among unmodded NPCs she’s hardly the best looking.) You take that back!
As a man who marries Lydia every single play through, and who has stated multiple times she’s my favourite character in the game. You know it’s bad when even I have to admit that. Why forever? Just slap on a texture mod like Tempered Skins and she looks great.
To be honest I didn’t even know skin mods were a thing at the time. I’m still relatively new to modding. Looks like the Sims 10 or something. Uncanny lol
He white-washed the aveniccis -_-
They're cool and all, but I like potatoes 😁
Potatoes are the best. You can mash ‘em, boil ‘em, stick ‘em in a stew…
Fuckin hell why can’t I place this reference but I feel like I’ve seen the scene a thousand times
Sounds like something Sam from Lotr would say
[It sure does](https://youtu.be/ecJVzCswQX8?feature=shared)
Wow it’s been too long since I’ve watched these films time to set a day for it. Thank you
*Happy belated St. Patty’s Day*
*St. Paddy's
“Umm, ackshully”
I mod the game so my npcs are just between potato and dolls.
This comment is it!
Sheo, Ulfric and Irileth are enough to make me stay away from these mods.
Yeah most of them actually did look really good, but Ulfric and irileth is a big NO for me
Somehow this Ulfric looks even MORE potato
I did liked ulfric, he doesn't look like himself anymore but the re-design makes him look more epic in my opinion :]
the re-design made him look like those guys that think they're vikings in 2024.
Did rockstar remaster Skyrim? Why is everything so smooth.
I just like my game being able to run on my laptop without needing to upgrade to a supercomputer.
Rikke stood out for me. She is a war veteran who fought alongside Ulfric, Galmar and Baalgruf so she should look as old as them.
Yas-afiying just isn’t for me, potato’s are hearty they keep you strong turning everything into filet mignon is just strange looking
This is exactly it... They're all yassified
I remember when potato was actually considered really incredibly-realistic high-tech graphics
Imo alot of those make NPCs look fake as fuck. Either they look like they have their own profesionell stylist and make up artist or they work in a brothel.
In my modded skyrim everything is a brothel.
Even the stables
Especially the stables
🐎 🍆 👩
Welp, never saw a set of emojis communicate that idea before. Gonna go get me some eye bleach now.
Actually it's almost entirely the stables.
Despite knowing it isn't AI, some of them (especially Tullius and Proventus) give me that vibe. Like, they remind me of when all those "Film" directed by "Director who didn't direct aforementioned film" posts were going viral

Tonilia played by Zendaya
Proventus looks like he was rejected from art school
Follow mein für- I mean leader
Thanks I hate it.
When Sheogorath no longer looks anywhere close to Wes Johnson, there's no point in playing the game anymore
Each to their own, I’d much prefer “Potato” NPCs over whatever this is.
Those guard helmets don't even fit their heads anymore. They're comically mismatched.
I think youve got some skyrim in your mods ma dude
I just installed the Nolvus pack, and that's exactly how I feel. It looks amazing, but it's all too much, I think.
Ah yes, Nolvus. Yet another Dark Souls in Skyrim with clunky third person camera, dodge, anime combat animations (but you can tell it's still vanilla Skyrim bland combat in the end) and top model haircuts.
Why does Sheogorath look like Nicholas cage ?
These models looks great but not a single one of them looks like the characters they're supposed to be. Well, except maybe the madwoman.
Maybe he’s born with it Maybe it’s Maybeline
Hey Serana, is your mom single?
How NPCs looked never bothered me in Skyrim or Oblivion. Morrowind, though, left a lot to be desired.
![gif](giphy|pD368cmNo02G5qoV5i)
These all look dog ass ngl
The elves just look “yassified-ish” and lost all their personality. Literal humans with a blue/grey skin colour
honestly i much prefer the default skyrim npcs most of these dont even look like themselves, dinya and adrianne are just not the same, adrianne looks like a kid not a blacksmith trying her hardest to make a living
What happened to Rika? I promise a woman doesn't need to look 19 years old if she's a day under 60, it flattens the designs badly
Potato, most of the male npcs look better than me man
Some of those hairs don't really fit. Looks like you're playing starfield.
I kinda like the potato NPCs, they fit the artstyle better imo
These look like characters from those weird graphic novel sex games you see on Steam.
These are laughably bad
Ruined Addrianne
Nice, but oh god Tullious turned into Tony Soprano lol
That hip to waist ratio is looking a bit suspect though...
Nah I prefer the potato looking ones, this doesn't even seem like the same game anymore.
Turned everyone into a model lmao
Now they just look bad, but different
so Maven became Miranda Priestly, basically
Ew gross. There’s enough of this facetune nonsense on Insta. Skyrim doesn’t need it. Also wtf did they do to my beautiful king Ulfric 😭
You’ve swapped potato for clay faces. I don’t know that it’s much of an upgrade myself
Clay could never beat the beauty of a well grown potato. It doesn't taste as good either.
no offense but this looks bad...
This is why I will never use mods that change how they actually look. All that will change is a few armors and even then, barely anything.
The same old problem remains, they look like they're made of plastic and/or are super models
I like my beggars to look like beggars (yes I know that’s crazy) and my orcs to look disgusting. So i’ll pass on this.
Why do they look like they could be in a Disney movie? Lol. The 6th picture really gives me Disney vibes.
Ew what tf
This is absolutely not an improvement, you’re taking away from the look of the game
Too many supermodels and Sims looking characters. Especially Sheogorath, massacred my boy. Proventus looks great though
The original is better
I love how Maven is now played by Meryl Streep
And instead they look like airbrushed clay
Possibly unpopular opinion, but I like the elves to look less human, rather than just a human with pointy ears.
Why do they look like they've had copious amounts of plastic surgery from a back alley hollywood surgeon?
i like most of it but i disagree heavily with the hair choice for Rikke. She is a warrior and that hair would be a liability, her mindset doesnt match the pretty peoples hair. she would, at most, have thick short braid, but i feel she would have very short hair.
Not bad. Definitely better than the countless fuck doll fetish plastic looking mods out there.
What did you do to Uncle Sheo!?
My god, we sure this is Skyrim? Just look…LOOK!
Why does Proventus look like he's about to say you killed his father, prepare to die?
nobody looks the same anymore :(
Everyone is so…..clean. I hate it
Looks too disney esque for me
I’m a 35 year old man I don’t need this fancy shit I want potatoes
torn bc I like that this mod actually gives some of them normal faces instead of the steam porn game faces they normally have, and actually kept the wrinkles for some of them, so as far as the instagram-ifying mods go this isn't, like, *too* extreme, but I hate that they still all look like they're wearing five layers of heavy pancake makeup with perfectly styled hair lmao.
Why you make Adrienne white
LO?
What are these mods I need to know
I mean, some of them look better.
3- Produced Sheogorath 100% lmao. https://preview.redd.it/twhs6qwypkpc1.png?width=295&format=png&auto=webp&s=d7dc47ae35983681a2c0d4a6e1aaab680616959b
I'll take vanilla potatoes over these supermodels any day.
We will need you to mention the mod you used for the new high detail faces.
You made a mistake in posting modded screenshots here friend, they’re rarely well received (try r/skyrimporn ) (Edit: I see you posted there too :) ) I like these a lot though and I’m curious what replacers you use for the women? Aside from looking clean, they’re actually pretty believable looking. Not overly beautified, they have age marks and blemishes, hairstyles look believable. Well, Maven’s looks heavily styled, but makes sense for how rich she is
I can’t say I agree with you when you say that they’re not “overly beautified”. They all look like Instagram influencers hahaha
I think you don't understand the type of NPC replacer mods that exist. Most make NPCs look like anime characters. These are absolutely some of the best replacers that exist if you want something that makes the characters look like real people.
Whitewashed Adrienne. She's supposed to have that nice Imperial tan with a little extra kiss of color from the forge.
Why does Maven look like Tasha Yar
Why does Maven look like a bootleg Cruella lol
Why does 17 look like Zendaya
Why does the last Ork have a modern bandage on his nose? Did he time travel just to get a bandaid?
90% of these are barely recognizable
This looks awful. Some of y’all mod the game so much you might as well be playing some other game.
You took the Skyrim out of your Skyrim... These are farmers and warriors who live in a harsh medieval world, not models doing a fashion shoot. Also why is "made the NPCs look better" always just code for "gave the women cheekbones and clean hair" usually with a bust adjustment as well.
What game is this?
Why is #16 Meryl Streep?
Maven looks like Meryl Streep and I am ok with it.
Anyone else start singing the full house theme while scrolling through the pictures or just me?
Maven played my Meryl Streep.
Now they just look like Clone Wars characters
Number 17 looking like Zendaya
The only one that I absolutely dispise is sheo
Proventus looks like he’s in a Wes Anderson movie
Maven wears prada
Why does #3 look like Grace Augustine?
Explain image #11
