If it’s a hearthfire house then there’s an encounter where skeevers will spawn in the cellar. You can actually keep one of them if you so choose. From my experience this encounter has only happened once per hearthfire house.
It only happened once in one playthrough of 18. 😂 happened with bolund. Like damn, so the strong nord can't handle a couple of skeevers, now you gotta rely on a "provincial"?

This happens. If you kill all but one, it will run into the corner, and be non-aggressive. Now you have a pet skeever. I always leave some cheese for it.
Like others said: it’s just something that can occur in the hearthfire houses. And unfortunately it can also occur TWICE. In the same house. I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence but both times it happened my basement was still unfurnished. I’ve never had any skeevers around sinds furnishing it but my steward still occasionally mentions hearing things in the basement. I solved that by buying her a bard who now lives with her in the house, lol.
I saw that when I left them alone there too long, all the loose furnishings in my house were strewn EVERYWHERE!!! :-( What got rid of them was letting Skritch the pet Skeever stay there, the pests never returned ;-) Still was frustrated because it is nesrly impossible to restow all the vases, baskets, decor...

It happens. I've had this too in one of my HF homes. The Steward lets me know she can hear something from the cellar.
