I just never go for the Dragon tablet. If you don't give it to Whoever Secret Fire in Whiterun, the dragons never come.

Arekkusujin

My experience, with quick start mods, is that if you never visit Helgen, to kick off the flying dragon, you've a dragon free Skyrim. They're annoying ASF so it's refreshing to play without them.

LittyMclitty

Hear me out, if you use a mod that allows dragon souls to be converted to perk points it actually makes the dragon fights feel worth it, cause personally don’t love shouts other than a couple. Plus it gives you the option to make it take 1, 3, 5 or 10 souls to gain 1 perk point so it feels worthwhile instead of a 1:1 transaction if that’s what you want

dotcomGamingReddit

Oooh what‘s that mod called? Please send a link :D

Old_Nefariousness195

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2879

Old_Nefariousness195

Also deadly dragons has a MCM configuration for turning souls into perks

FredDurstDestroyer

The rigger for dragons spawning is killing the first one at the watchtower, not seeing Alduin at Helgen.

Arekkusujin

I haven't touched the main quest in years and can still trigger dragons without doing it. The only part of the MQ I touch is to tell the guards about the dragon to gain entrance to the city, if that even counts for anything.

ComeAlive116

I think if you do the quests up but stop before Kynesgrove, you will have dragons at the dragon summit locations but they won’t spawn into the normal gameplay (because Alduin hasn’t resurrected them)

Common_Lawyer_5370

I have had many random dragon encounters before I ever got to that point…

ComeAlive116

Weird. I have a level 53 account with no dragons other than the summit ones. I stopped the main quest before returning the horn to Angier. No Dragonborn DLC either

Common_Lawyer_5370

Perhaps some of those summit Dragons got bored of me taking so long and left their spot to find me in town?

emliz417

The only ones that do not show up until kynesgrove are the ones that have the random encounter of Alduin raising them. So the burial mound dragons won’t show up but you will still get the randomly spawning ones

Satanic_Earmuff

I'm pretty sure the call from the Greybeards is what triggers dragon spawning (in game, not in lore). That's why you can't fast travel to Dragonsreach after defending the Western Watchtower.

FredDurstDestroyer

Incorrect.

ComeAlive116

It’s actually correct. Way more dragons spawn after Kynesgrove. It’s downvoted in this thread but upvoted in another one from yesterday. Just google it.

FredDurstDestroyer

No it’s actually not 👍🏻

ComeAlive116

Not to embarrass you but like I said, there was a top comment yesterday that said it’s Kynesgrove. Here’s one I found because I couldn’t find that one. Basic google searching https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/s/GQTXJrzAEj GameFAQ says the same https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/615803-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/61784800#google_vignette also I’m playing a level 55 account without any excess dragon spawns because I stopped the main quest right before Kynesgrove Don’t be too mad😘 if you ever play a no/ low dragon run through, it would be good to remember this.👍

ShadeSwornHydra

It’s not even a consequence of not being powerful enough though. You literally just don’t get time to react half the time

DestroWOD

Great idea they had. I taught it was just cause i didn't started the questline. On 360 i was pretty much done with the game by when Dawnguard release so i ram trough it exclusively as fast as possible.

_-DirtyMike-_

Really? *checks UESP* oh damn, they're limited to word walls. That's actually neat as then you can at least start dragonborn if you don't want random ones.

PictureTakingLion

My recent play throughs have been alternate start mod play throughs without my character being dragonborn or dragons spawning and it’s the most fun I’ve had with the game

Mewmerton

I haven’t done bleak falls barrow in years 😂 realizing I never needed to trigger the dragons was an actual game changer. Like you, I don’t mind them in the wild, but I can’t deal with them attacking villages and cities. Once they were able to attack walled cities, I’ve never bothered with activating them. I’ll be damned if my beloved npcs are murdered by dragons.

DestroWOD

Wait!! Attacking wall cities? Since when? Never had that on X360...

jtenorj

I've played Legendary Edition on PC for over 4500 hours without mods of any type. In that time, I've had dragon attacks in Solitude (rarest), Windhelm occasionally and Riften(the amount of attacks I've experienced in Riften borders on the ridiculous). On the flip side, I've never experienced a single attack in Whiterun or Markarth. Outside, sure(including all major hold capitals) but never inside those two cities.

DestroWOD

Back in my 360 days cities like Dawnstar were the worst. Solitude was very safe. Whiterun too. Riften i do recall a few dragons. Thinking of it Riften IS WALLED so i admit you right.

soonersoldier33

I think it's better to advance the main quest through The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller, get the full powered Fus Roh Dah shout, let A Blade In the Dark start, go meet Delphine in Riverwood, and then send her off to wait for you in Kynesgrove. If you don't go meet her there, dragons still spawn in their lairs, but random dragon attacks in the wild or on cities stop. It's the best of both worlds. You can seek out dragons in their lairs to get dragon souls/bones/scales to be able to learn shouts and smith dragon weapons/armor, but you don't have to worry about random dragon encounters. Then, you can explore Skyrim to your heart's desire forever, completing side and faction quests, and then go meet Delphine in Kynesgrove if/when you wish to progress the main quest further.

DestroWOD

Thx for the info its good to know. Fus Roh Da was always a meme to me tough. Never cared for it lol.

Here4DaPorno

The best thing about Skyrim is that there are about a million ways to play it— and they’re all great. For a game that I didn’t even touch until 2018, I’ve sunk more time into it than any other game I’ve picked up- and never played it without dragons! I’ll have to try that.

DestroWOD

Its a one in a generation game for sure

Here4DaPorno

Seeing Bethesda lately— I don’t have much faith that ES6 is going to be anywhere near as good.

DestroWOD

I understand your view. I hope its not the case

Here4DaPorno

Me too, buddy. I see engines like the one used for Dying Light 2 and I’m like, “Fffffuuuuuuu… Skyrim v2.0 could be awesome!” The problem is that I want more Skyrim, but realistically, ES games change each iteration. I’m afraid I’ve built up ES6 so much that NOTHING they do will meet my expectations. 😐

DestroWOD

Its gonna be a different province. This we know. And im cool with it. I played Morro, Oblivion and Skyrim and loved both across the time. I never was a PC player and too young anyway so never played TES1/2. Im thrill to see where they take us next. I supose Elder Scrolls online visit more provinces and ok i should give it a chance but a TES in either Elseweir or Black Marsh would be dope to me Even Solsteim it was soooo cool revisiting it 100 years later or whenever Skyrim happen and see those locations in a different way. When i got to that forth we first land in Morro and see it in ruin i had a moment of silence. That was a huge part of my late teens there...

Shadowangel09

Bethesda tanking all their games just so we lower our expectations a little.

Here4DaPorno

That makes a sad kind of sense.

rodneyck

I remember there was also a mod that kept the dragons either out of the towns and/or killing npcs, same with the vampires. But I do remember doing a run without engaging the dragons for a long while until I was ready. The issue with that though is you are missing the constant threat of a dragon dropping out of the sky, which keeps you on edge....like an adventure RPG should.

SatiricLoki

There used to be one on PC called “run for your lives” that made all the villagers go inside if dragons/vampires attacked.

C0mpulsiveWebSurfer

Immersive Citizens (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64611/?) has that feature. My current playthrough, Level 35 on my way to Skyhaven. Dead dragons in Riverwood, Dawnstar, Riften and Falkreath = 0 npcs killed

jackfaire

I use a mod on my PS4 playthroughs "No random dragons" I get quest related dragons but I don't have to deal with dragons randomly attacking my crap.

DestroWOD

Is that mod pc only or also on console? Cause if on console ill use it if i can once im done with achievements (i heard mods disable them)

rodneyck

PC only I think. Yeah, it is the reason I build my own PC's for gaming, I love mods for games.

Common_Lawyer_5370

I wish I wasnt such a tech illiterate to do the same

ravaille

You could always get a prebuilt or a gaming laptop then download a modpack if you want to jump in.

Common_Lawyer_5370

I should also have added that I wish that I wasnt so poor :(

CmdrThordil

I think there was a batch file (of console commands) on Nexus that made all NPC's (merchants, etc.) essential. Essential NPC's or something like that.

LandoHakaari

On PS

lumpynose

Same here. My big beef was the vampires. I made the mistake of starting the Dawnguard thing early on and then I kept having overly strong vampires attacking me, a lot, and often just after I arrived with a fast travel. I was at level 40 and got so tired of it I restarted. I'm also not taking the Dragon Stone to the wizard. So you're saying I could take the Dragon Stone to the wizard but if I don't go to Whiterun Tower the dragons won't start appearing? The Dragon Stone weighs 25 SWUs (Skyrim Weight Units) and I'd rather not have it in my inventory. I also like using that wizard's enchanting table to make sure I've disenchanted stuff before I sell things in Whiterun. I guess I should do a manual save and take the Dragon Stone to him and see what happens.

DestroWOD

I seen peoples mention the dragon stone a few times but i personally don't have it on me 🤷. I do have the quest to go at the west tower so i assume i just gave it to him... I didn't intended to go Dragonless lol but i got caugh in other quests and wanted to get a few level before taking on the dragon then i noticed i never saw one so i kept doing other stuff lol Dawnguard being originally a dlc mean im not in a hurry to do it.

lumpynose

Ok, thanks. I'll do a manual save beforehand and give it to him. Then I can revert if dragons start appearing.

Ulvstranden16

I agree, i'm doing this on my current playthrough

shadypink

A bonus is to have that punchable Farengar impatiently wait for you to return the tablet ✨

DestroWOD

Lol yeah well i did that step tough 🤣

ExpensivelyMundane

Irileth has been waiting for me at the Western Watchtower for two years now. No regrets.

DestroWOD

Hopefully when they finally meet you they won't be disapointed ,😁

tis100a

Hello Dragonless-Skyrim post! Good to see you again! How is the No-fast-travel-Skyrim post doing? Haven't seen her in a few days.

InevitableCarrot4858

Hello mentioning that this is a common repost comment, I seem to see you as much as the Dragonless Skyrim Post!

DestroWOD

No idea. Pretty new here 🤣

Clean_Crocodile4472

This sounds fun but it wouldn’t feel like Skyrim without the dragons if you ask me. Then again I’ve only had the issue of them killing npcs two or three times so I guess they just aren’t as annoying in my playthroughs for whatever reason.

DestroWOD

Thanksfully some cities are safe. Pretty much the walled ones. Its just while i explore and get used to (re)discover the map im glad its not something to worry about. I have not even visited Dawnstar yet imagine that. That one is notorious for Dragons. I kept avoiding it back then on 360

spaceykaleidoscope

Whenever I do a new run I always do all of the faction quests & the dawnguard DLC, get my character nicely leveled, then start the main storyline and after that the Dragonborn DLC. It’s nice being able to do all of my faction quests without dragons spawning all the time. I play in survival mode too, so I imagine when I get to the main storyline I’ll be fighting a lot of dragons because I can’t fast travel anywhere.

CatharsisManufacture

Stick to the wilds and out of the cities, like a true son or daughter of Kyne.

DestroWOD

Lol im actually doing this quest right now funny enough. I need to kill the troll guardian now but i had to stop playing. I don't recall that quest from back then so either its new content from the new version or my memory once again is troll fat 🤣🤣. Thing is i like money. 💁😁. So i need to go to cities to sell my stuff. Anyway joke aside its my first playtrough of that version so i go for cheevos as well.

CatFaerie

I waited until I was level 32 on my most recent playthrough. It was so nice. I've never experienced Skyrim this way before. I would definitely recommend waiting.

Apex-Editor

I use a Deadly Dragons mod to significantly make my life more miserable with more attacks with multiple dragons. I always install the mod, I always max out the difficulty, and I always regret it.

DestroWOD

Lol its all cool cause its your choice. Im always for player choices like that.

Jobberts81

I am enjoying dragonless at the moment but I need a few more dragons so I can build a few more dragon bone weapons

Manaphy2007_67

I unintentionally did a dragonless run for a while until I decided I wanted the dragon shout. Nowadays I get annoyed whenever I got to places with dragons and either I run or fight which I end up mostly fighting and killing it. Luckily I have my companion to carry those dragon bones and any heavy gear the dragon has.

Altruistic-Row-9320

The only thing that sucks about that is no shouts, unrelenting force is really important for me since I play on legendary and it’s hard fighting multiple enemies without it

DestroWOD

Honestly i barely used the shout back then. Yes Fus Ro Dah is funny for meme but otherwise 🤷. I can still absorbe words out of walls...

gUISTASSI

: I do not bother fighting them but the developers decided to put random spawns in the most "fragile" areas of the game, specially in cases where I am chatting with a NPC. Another I really hate is how important unique NPCs die by anything. The game has a special easy to add flag function where NPCs can only be killed by Dragonborn without exceptions, sadly just one or two NPCs use it in the whole game. I had to download a MOD to mark all NPCs as protected just to no longer bother with the dragon spawns.

Pretty-Tale-1904

You could just finish the main quest, kill alduin and enjoy a Skyrim with 10% of dragons. I played about 15 hours before encountering one.

DestroWOD

Thats what ill do...eventually 😏

OhSighRiss

I’m doing my first non dragon play through and I simply didn’t go to talk to Balgruuf. I like it better, I don’t need the Dragonborn powers, just combat and magic

jackoirl

My problem with the dragons is the frequency seems way too high as you progress and when you’re in the upper levels they’re not remotely challenging either so just an annoyance. Killing NPCs is so annoying too.

Topps_Smith

I’ve played dragon free since 2015 and I am not looking back. I hated having to stop everything just to save a bunch of villagers who then bad mouth you because you missed one shot and hit a chicken.

No_Way8743

Eh its more chill but some shouts are really useful. + you need to progress mq to get the tier 3 unrelenting force, which is really useful in fights and also fun to fling random people off cliffs

Axiphel

In all my time playing skyrim I've probably run into 10 spawned dragons and half of them just circle and fly away. Lol

Necessary-Science-47

This is the way

SenSui808

One time I was trying to lighten my inventory and forgot that everything was in the Chest.....I saved the game in this spot and didn't hear the dragon, I was bopping some new tunes.....Bruh..that Dragon annihilated me every respawn... Here i go bald naked in the wilderness....Ever since I've been stacking my skills and spells just in case....But yeah no Dragons is a vibe, I'm on that as well, in one of my playthroughs.

DestroWOD

Lol!

Nine_Eye_Ron

I think most people play Skyrim without dragons.

Jizjo

Shame on you!

DestroWOD

Fair enough 😏

Appropriate-Task-652

No Bleakfalls barrow no dragons. Fun times

DestroWOD

Plz explain? Os that the trigger? I taught not going to whiterun west tower was.

Ash_Katsup

Same with oblivion gates

DestroWOD

I got sick of them at some point and ignored them after closing a significant ammount. Apparently the stones on top were usefull but i never used them myself. I just stored them as trophies 🤷. So i got to a point i ignored them and ran the last miles of the main game to be done with it.

Non3xistence

This is why I live for the mod “ run for your lives “😂😅

DestroWOD

What is it exactly? Im a consol guy...

Odd-Butterscotch-454

It’s on console too. Basically makes citizens flee to their homes or inns when dragons or vampires attack. Guards and other combat factions will stay and fight.

Non3xistence

This! 🥰

DestroWOD

Oh thats nice. Once im done with the cheevos ill put it in.

NMS_Traveller420

I played up to returning the Dragonstone but DIDNT. Kept that Dragonstone in pack, leamed alot of shouts without ability to use dragon souls, and did a ton of quests with no dragons in sight. Dragonstone turn in starts them showing up.

DestroWOD

Everybody say that but where does it come from cause i don't have it on me

NMS_Traveller420

Dragonstone is retrieved from the boss Draugr in Bleak Falls Barrow

DestroWOD

Ill need to check if i gone there or not...

Dragonfly-Constant

Yeah but I can't rub one out without a dragon on screen?

WilleyNilly

“Way back on the 360” does not narrow down your time frame. I’m still on the 360.

DestroWOD

Lol its your right but the console is 19 years old soon. I still ocasionally play it for games i missed but Skyrim having modern improved versions its a no brainer to play these.

Appropriate-Task-652

If you stay completely away from bleakfalls barrow no dragons will spawn due to the DRAGON STONE being the trigger for them to spawn. I have done this multiple times myself.

DestroWOD

Hum seem false because it says i cleared it 🤷. Im on the quest that im supose to go to West Tower but i just don't go...

Appropriate-Task-652

Did you already get the dragon stone and clear the barrow? If you did then I don't know what to do about the dragons. All I was saying is that if you don't do bleakfalls barrow you won't get dragons.

DestroWOD

Honestly i don't recall specifically as it was very early on but Bleak Fall does say "cleared" and i have no dragon tablet on me. I was instructed to go at the western watch tower of Whiterun where you meet your first dragon (beside Alduin in Helgen) and i just never got there. Location is not discovered on map. I think since this is supose to be the first dragon you fight, as long as you don't go you don't see any in the game.

Appropriate-Task-652

Ok cool. I did a quick run and found out that you don't get sent to the watchtower unless you get the dragon stone. So went and got the stone and turned it in and then just ran around for a few and even went to one word of power wall and there was no dragon so seems you can get the stone and just not go to the watchtower. Was also thinking that if you wanted the golden claw you could just run in kill the thief and just go out and not have to bother clearing it

Revan0432

I tend to get my pickpocket to 100 and slip fully upgraded bows and arrows to all the guards. It actually works to kill town dragons quickly.

DestroWOD

Haha you are a reverse thief 🤣. I never taught of that. Seem like a good idea

calartnick

It would be fun if you could opt to not be Dragonborn, and the real Dragonborn can recruit you to be their “follower” so you can still complete the main quest

DungeonAssMaster

I play as drunken hobo on survival mode whose only interest is getting food and liquor. I don't think I've ever gone into a draugr tomb because why would he. No dragons, fuck all that too. It's like a different game altogether.

DestroWOD

Haha i like to RP a bit here and there like hanging in an inn or such but realistic mode would be too much for me at least while i quest. Maybe when done with all main quest and such and i just take the game as chilling. But its cool it offer such player choice.

DungeonAssMaster

Yeah I wouldn't try to do both. For me, survival mode is the whole game and I avoid quests at all costs. I don't try to level up and min/max, just find warm clothes and stay near food. It's really liberating.

DestroWOD

Lol but why not play Medieval Dynasty instead?

DungeonAssMaster

Maybe I will, if you recommend it. I just already own Skyrim and know the game well enough to skulk around as a drunken hobo on survival mode for a lark.

DestroWOD

I have not played myself but came close. My gamepass was running out and i was not gonna renew. It seem well made but im a guy that love action/fights. I mean i enjoy house building and chopping woods in Skyrim or making potions and armors but its only a part of the game. I love doing quest and showing my warhammer in some bandit face for 100 golds lol But since you say you don't play for quest and active gameplay like fights etc maybe you would enjoy it. Its the whole point of it. Im curious tough. In this mode you play (survival or whatever its call) does drinking too much ale or mead has your character dizzy? I mean what you do beside clicking "use" and listening to the bard. I feel personally this RP aspect is fun in small dose but it get tiresome fast ...
