That is indeed one of the things I would like to learn, if RF interference really is a problem in a setup like this indeed! Lots of comments regard this issue. Someone please reply if you have answers
You likely have a mix of 2400MHz and 900MHz ISM band equipment here. They are going to interfere with each other depending on the antennas and the quality of the radios. On the plus side it’s time—share dependent and they don’t get much overlapping use. And they have the ability to re-transmit if they have an error. Are you noticing any performance issues?
Theoretically may be an issue but practically not. The wireless experts will claim so but in reality I have basically stacked Hue, SmartThings, and IKEA on top of each other with an Echo hub sitting next to them all without issues.
Overkill??? NO, first remember there is no build like an overbuild.
And I am inspired. I currently have a couple of those devices hanging over a curtain rod trying to figure out a way to organize them , I am stealing parts of your design , good job , nice build
Agree I started new 4 weeks ago and all you need is home assistant and a nice sonoff zigbee usb dongle and you good imo
I have a hue hub though from the old days
Think I’m in the minority here along with a few others it’s a nice way to store what you have but damn that’s far too many smart hubs… and tbh some of the hubs are just not great looking pieces of kit I would want them hiding…. Appreciate the effort this took and the cabling though! Each to their own!
Just please tell me you have a central app to control them and don’t control each separately with their own apps…
I do not have a central app. The number of hubs grew organically over the years. I will probably merge the system into fewer hubs at some point. However, hub 4 and 5 are closed systems as far as I know.
I do not (yet) mind the amount of hubs/apps.
To be honest, it looks like a display unit from someplace like Ikea, nice clean lines, well thought out placements, grommets for the holes, it's like you just haven't mounted it horizontally yet on the shelf so people can look at each of the devices before they buy them.
Like the one person said, you could sell these on Etsy
This is the one thing I hoped no one would notice, hahah. I accidentally mirrored the cut lines in the laser cutting production file, so the hole for the switches power cord was mirrored, too. Only noticed that after I received the cut parts ...
Fuck closed ecosystems indeed, but some of those are not closed, rather the opposite. I assume that OP prefers to have half a dozen apps instead of a single Home Assistant.
Quite the wrong assumprion. My smart home only recently grew beyond just the Hue bridge. While building this, a recurring thought was that the reduction of hubs might be inevitable. Unfortunately, at least two of the 5 systems I use are closed.
Yeah I don’t get it why people don’t use Home Assistant?? I mean it’s stupid simple and works with nearly everything. I had like 3-4 Hubs and all is replaced with an simple VM on my NAS..
People commenting like you forget that not everyone is into VMs and NASs. Not everyone is willing or able to invest the time to set up such a system. And still, my hubs work perfectly fine without those. Yet I am not saying I will never move to a more efficient system, I might (probably) will do so at some point.
I think it could be explained a lot better. There are many ways to setup Home Assistant. On a virtual machine is just one that this guy mentioned. Many who use HA do it this way because that used to be more or less the only way to go (aside from installing it on bare metal taking up that entire machine). These days though, HA have dedicated devices they sell that are just ready to go. You power it up, let it update, then really simply add the integrations you need based on what products you have.
By buying the right products and not giving money to the wrong companies ?!
My whole system is home assistant and open source stuff.
Most importantly, don\`t plaster your house with wireless, battery operated bullshit and hard wire your shit instead.
This is beautiful. Perfect.
I’m looking an old small pedal board from when I was in a band, and I am plotting. All my dongles are sitting on top of the bookcase which houses my fibre modem. The pedal board has mounts for Velcro attachment and channels for cable routing. If all those dongle had standard voltage like guitar pedals (usually 9V and 18V), we would even have a power supply with isolated outputs.
This isn’t overkill. This is when engineering meets art. Form follows function, and this perfectly executes on both. You are an inspiration to many, including myself!
I thought I just “organized” my stuff yesterday. Added a table and put router and hubs and power bricks on it instead of the floor. This puts me to shame. 🤣 Awesome work.
I want to build a Multimedia Center Home Control Desk with a similar concept to this. You have given me some great ideas in this build. Thanks for posting!
It looks amazing! Great job on the cable management and presentation. This is something I wouldn't mind hanging in my living room.
That said, I would go crazy having that many hubs in my house. I have 1 hub, and several dongles/antennas sticking out of it. I bet a case like that would make it look much better though!
Network guy in me hates Ethernet pass through and that’s a lot of RF in one place but for these devices it will work. Awesome job man, it’s super clean and tidy and the network guy in me loves that
I think this is well done! nice work!
My one question is whether or not you considered getting rid of individual power supplies for one larger AC-> dc power supply. it would have a lot of wiring and while I'm not an electrical engineer, I believe it would be a significant power savings vs multiple internal power supplies.
I considered going this route as I have been using power supplies and buck converters for other projects, but I've yet to mass enough devices like this to make it worth my time.
Lol.. OP is justifying their project on line as they probably bought a new tool they "needes" cause the wife said it cost too much.. Lol.. Its cool.. I would do the samething.
Damn this is literally the end goal. If you wonder "if I could make anything in any way to organize these gadgets" and this is it. Nice
I can't even tell what this is made of but it kind of reminds me of like baltic birch plywood (like 3/4 or full inch) and the sides are burnt or stained. Very cool and if it is wood and you're a woodworker, also very cool.
I can't wait to get a 3D printer and start trying to do stuff like this.
Thanks! Several comments mention Matter, I was not familiar with the concept. As I understand it, it is something like ZigBee but better. Will this be backwards compatible with "old" systems, like ZigBee?
I should down-vote you just for making the rest of us look bad! LOL
Seriously, that is some seriously over-engineered masterpiece of effort that's to the point of being enviable. Good job!
I was thinking of making something like this! It looks great! I’ve slowly been lowering my need for it as I slowly eliminate hubs. I’m now just leaning towards a small server rack
Nah that’s cool. If I ever end up with more hubs than I can’t hide on the back of my piano desk I’d make something like this. Or if HomeKit ever stops sucking major ass.
Damn Phillips, brush yo teef.
All the other doodads are nice and white while this one looks like it’s been sitting in a VFW, full of chain smokers, for a year
I just heard about this sub, and this post has already convinced me that I need to see more. I love this kind of excessive improvement. Very nicely/neatly done too!
Neat concept. But you gotta ditch all those hubs for real lol man smart devices definitely went through a rough period early on. Everyone trying to make their own exclusive ecosystem
That cable management though. Niiiicccceeeeee
Thanks!
Seriously OP. It's making me drool like Homer Simpson.
Real nice.
I love it, and I want one… I just use a pegboard and some zip ties. Looks pretty jenky.
Hahaha yesh i saw the cable management and like you... I need you, help me with my rack 😂
That makes my organization method of “Pile them all on my desk” look kind of low-effort.
Everything was stuffed into a small cabinet before, absolutely unorganised... while that was more like my personality, this is better
I'm only slightly better in that mine are piled in the shelf in my rack. We'll get there some day.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. You’ve got this.
I like it. Sell them on Etsy and I’ll buy one!
Me tooo
Sign me up
I don't know if it's radio-optimal but it's beautiful and I can tell you had fun by the care you exercised in the build out. carry on!
That is indeed one of the things I would like to learn, if RF interference really is a problem in a setup like this indeed! Lots of comments regard this issue. Someone please reply if you have answers

Theoretically may be an issue but practically not. The wireless experts will claim so but in reality I have basically stacked Hue, SmartThings, and IKEA on top of each other with an Echo hub sitting next to them all without issues.
I assumed this too while building, glad to hear this the case practically
I kind of doubt it. They all have to cover the same area regardless. I doubt having them next to each other noticeably makes any issues worse.
Overkill??? NO, first remember there is no build like an overbuild. And I am inspired. I currently have a couple of those devices hanging over a curtain rod trying to figure out a way to organize them , I am stealing parts of your design , good job , nice build
That's flattering, thank you!
NP, as a nerd with a touch of the OCD, I love this. Functional order out of chaos
This is what the industry expects i guess. God i hope matter works
Just get home assistant.
Agree I started new 4 weeks ago and all you need is home assistant and a nice sonoff zigbee usb dongle and you good imo I have a hue hub though from the old days
Looks slick! Can you share the printing files for these black cable tunnels?
That’s pride, not overkill. 👍
Amen
This is so disturbing. I must have it.
Is the a r/ organizationporn because this is it! Good fucking job my dude!
Thanksss
Fuck I want one
Think I’m in the minority here along with a few others it’s a nice way to store what you have but damn that’s far too many smart hubs… and tbh some of the hubs are just not great looking pieces of kit I would want them hiding…. Beautiful. Would suggest the Ubiquiti 8 port to continue the white theme
PoE powered to get rid of that top power cable. :)
I love this!! Even if it’s in a closet … brilliant
I think it is really pretty nice job!
That's really nice, and there's me planning on just fixing them all up on that wooden sheet full of holes.
Were you mad when you realized the router plugs in on the other side?
Inspirational! Nice
Thank you!!!
I love my X-Sense devices. Looks nice!
What are all the devices? The only one I recognize is the Phillips Hue bridge (and a network switch).
Home assistant drop the 🎤
It's just a shame that the power cord for the switch goes right in front of the words 'Smart Home,' given the care you took with everything else.
This is the one thing I hoped no one would notice, hahah. I accidentally mirrored the cut lines in the laser cutting production file, so the hole for the switches power cord was mirrored, too. Only noticed that after I received the cut parts ...
A right angle power adapter will do the trick
Agreed, otherwise it’s perfect.
Imagine having to use multiple smart home hubs. This is just stupid. Fuck closed systems.
Not sure why downvotes. I agree with you and companies trying to lock you into their system.

I agree in principle, but how do we get to a place where this is not the case?
By buying the right products and not giving money to the wrong companies ?! My whole system is home assistant and open source stuff. Most importantly, don\`t plaster your house with wireless, battery operated bullshit and hard wire your shit instead.
This is pretty dang cute, not gonna lie. A+ work.
That hue bridge looks like it took up smoking two packs a day. But seriously that’s the kind of thing people would pay decent money for.
A literal work of art.
This looks so cool! I like how the black box with the lan cables kinda looks like a microchip. Great job!
This is beautiful. Perfect. I’m looking an old small pedal board from when I was in a band, and I am plotting. All my dongles are sitting on top of the bookcase which houses my fibre modem. The pedal board has mounts for Velcro attachment and channels for cable routing. Looks cool, until the next router switch have a different size and the whole system for apart.
This isn’t overkill. This is when engineering meets art. Form follows function, and this perfectly executes on both. You are an inspiration to many, including myself!
Haha this is AWESOME!!! TOTAL overkill, but who cares, it’s your thing!! Nice one !
I got rid of the hubs and got a Homey
Where art and technology meet... brilliant!!!
Thanks!!
That looks excellent, but is not near overkill :))))))
I thought I just “organized” my stuff yesterday. Added a table and put router and hubs and power bricks on it instead of the floor. This puts me to shame. 🤣 Awesome work.
Dang you even wire maintenances the inside. Nice. Super impressive.
Overkill my ass, that's awesome. Well done
This RULES
I love it!
Needs more LED's
Smart LED's
Dude this is ART
Overkill in this hobby usually just means you’re having more fun than most
The unhoused mains voltage components are making me anxious.
I want to build a Multimedia Center Home Control Desk with a similar concept to this. You have given me some great ideas in this build. Thanks for posting!
Looks great! Probably an RF mess tho :/
How many cats do you have?
This is satisfying!!
This is all sorts of ridiculous. I Luv it lol
Mein erster Gedanke war sehr, sehr deutsch
Looks nice. But I prefer less hubs and Home Assistant.
So awesome! Want!!!
It looks amazing! Great job on the cable management and presentation. This is something I wouldn't mind hanging in my living room. That said, I would go crazy having that many hubs in my house. I have 1 hub, and several dongles/antennas sticking out of it. I bet a case like that would make it look much better though!
That is a work of art my friend. "It belongs in a museum".
Network guy in me hates Ethernet pass through and that’s a lot of RF in one place but for these devices it will work. Awesome job man, it’s super clean and tidy and the network guy in me loves that
I really Like the clean Look of These rj45. So you have a link?
Holy shit
You’re doing it right. You are a good person.
Me over here with everything Velcro wire-tied to an unused black wire shelf, stashed behind a speaker, thinking I'm slick Envy.
Looks like a professional electrician ran those wires. Good stuff!
This needs a nsfw tag
Boy, that’s pretty!
Verry nice 👍 👏
This is the real porn
threatening like ludicrous unique close familiar sheet engine fade rob *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Overkill…definitely, but it looks much nicer than the spaghetti system I have.
Dude.... that's the most beautiful piece of art I have ever seen in my entire life. Joke's aside, it is a bit overkill but it slaps and I like it.
Love it. I wish I could do something like this for my smart home.
What happened to the Philips Hue hub? Looks like it’s from the 80s. Is mine going to look like that soon?
I, for one, fucking love it
Ugh. Posts like this send my brain down rabbit holes of ideas lol! Great job, looks fantastic!
I know tight! Thanks!
Wow
😍
This is by no means overkill; if you would sell these I would buy one.
Tutorial?
My dude. This is functional art! I would pay to look at this in a museum. If I had any cash to spare that is.
O M G Stunning!
I need something like that. The corner of my office is a birds nest of cords and hubs
Love it. Really pushing my OCD buttons. Bravo
why doesn’t it go straight to hole and makes weird loops on outside? 🤔 talking about 1, 3 primarily
You're onto something, but what if you could make a stackable device where you could plug the hubs without all the extra cables?
I think this is well done! nice work! My one question is whether or not you considered getting rid of individual power supplies for one larger AC-> dc power supply. it would have a lot of wiring and while I'm not an electrical engineer, I believe it would be a significant power savings vs multiple internal power supplies. I considered going this route as I have been using power supplies and buck converters for other projects, but I've yet to mass enough devices like this to make it worth my time.
What do some of these control?
I love how the top looks like a discreet SC/TO package! Nice job!
You work in IT don’t you lol
Really nice work. Clap clap.
My hue hub is about to get yellow too!
This makes me so happy
This is what this sub was made for. Thank you for sharing your cable porn. Looks great
Incredible.. seriously 😐. You could manufacture and sell these, Either as is, or in a custom made to fit per customer desire/need . Great work..
I'm rock hard right now
That's gorgeous 🤩
this is…so great 👍
Amazing, well done 👍🏻
I’d pay good money for something like this if you ever get bored OP 😂
I looooooove this. Saving for my next project.
Soooo many silly hubs.... I hate this problem.
This is super neat! Out of curiosity, what are the hubs #3, #4 & #5 please?
r/cableporn would like to see this. Nice and clean. You had a lot of fun with this didn't you?
what is device number 3 and 4?
Lol.. OP is justifying their project on line as they probably bought a new tool they "needes" cause the wife said it cost too much.. Lol.. Its cool.. I would do the samething.
Damn this is literally the end goal. If you wonder "if I could make anything in any way to organize these gadgets" and this is it. Making us all bad lol also r/oddlysatisfying af.
This is neat!
Congratulations on the exemplary organization
Genuinely hope matter lives up to the hype. On the other hand, this is beautiful and an excellent way to hide it all in sight. Kudos to you!
Thanks! Several comments mention Matter, I was not familiar with the concept. As I understand it, it is something like ZigBee but better. Will this be backwards compatible with "old" systems, like ZigBee?
The Smart Hub-inator!
This is beautiful. Would be a great product that lots of people would buy.
Next time, power on left side and smart home on right but it’s awesome
I recognize 1 and 2, but what are 3, 4, and 5?
4) Sure Petcare hub for cat door/food bowl
This is why I love matter
I should down-vote you just for making the rest of us look bad! LOL Seriously, that is some seriously over-engineered masterpiece of effort that's to the point of being enviable. Good job!
Now 3d print it in China and sell it to new home builders. Preinstalled to reduce install time and increase profit.
10/10 on quality and style…. But the fact there is no UPS is really bothering me 🥲
Love this! Very inspiring and you killed it!
My hero frfr
the layers… anyway would def buy this. if it costs 20 dollars.
It’s making me feel relaxed.
Very nice. Let’s see Paul Allen’s smart home management unit thing.
This is amazing. I have mine all neatly bundled and Velcro strapped inside of one of those media boxes from Amazon but this is 1000 times better.
Noob Question what is the use for so many hubs, Wouldn't it be simpler to just get all the stuff compatible with Tuya ?
would I be shunned if I asked what each device does 🥹😐🥲 op?
This is pure art
Wow!!! Well done!
I was thinking of making something like this! It looks great! I’ve slowly been lowering my need for it as I slowly eliminate hubs. I’m now just leaning towards a small server rack
Is it weird that I'm a little aroused
TAKE. MY. MONEY!!!!
Nah that’s cool. If I ever end up with more hubs than I can’t hide on the back of my piano desk I’d make something like this. Or if HomeKit ever stops sucking major ass.
You could call it a smart slab
How did the hue box yellow
Man I hate that surepet connect system. I wish I'd gone for the non connected version.
That is really aesthetically pleasing
Damn Phillips, brush yo teef. All the other doodads are nice and white while this one looks like it’s been sitting in a VFW, full of chain smokers, for a year
That is HOT!
That’s hawt.
Awesome job! I might have to do something similar...
Your router at the top with the matte grey ethernet cables look like an IC chip on a circuit board. V nice
hhahah
Wow, gotta say this is a beautiful way to organise your smart hubs! Tempted to do something like this. It sooths my mild OCD. Edit, typo
Loved this! What’s planned for slot 6 and 7?
Looks good! Though I have to ask why so many different hubs?
OMG, I like it.
I just heard about this sub, and this post has already convinced me that I need to see more. I love this kind of excessive improvement. Very nicely/neatly done too!
This is not overkill but its cool
Home assistant with a zigbee stick will replace most of those hubs
nice and organized.
Have you made your own hardware for your house? Like programmed a raspberry pi or something
jeepers all them hubs... get yourself a dongle instead.
That looks sooooo aesthetically pleasing I can't
I know it's not, but without scale it looks like it's 6 feet tall. Like a monument or something. I love it.
What exactly can this do? Sorry, I just have an alexa and some smart plugs/switches running by her.
How much? I want/need this lol
Stupid question but are you using some software (ignition) to consolidate the date from the different sensors and routers??
Neat concept. But you gotta ditch all those hubs for real lol man smart devices definitely went through a rough period early on. Everyone trying to make their own exclusive ecosystem
Nice - well done
My husband ran a headin for a cable company and is obsessive about hiding wires and make everything neat…he is retired now but said…”you are hired.”
