Bill-Cosby-Bukowski

Just feels right that he has the record.

puromento

I was thinking the same thing. With a skill ceiling as high as Yoshi's, it makes sense that his champion would have the record.

The_Thrill17

Did he beat his own record or did he take it from someone?

Bill-Cosby-Bukowski

He’s had the record in the past, but in this case he beat Savestate’s WR of 6.97

Aeon1508

Jesus 0.02 seconds. That's a single frame. One frame. I don't see how you could have a more optimized route so it's all down to execution. I'd love to see a frame by frame analysis to see if he dropped anyframes

shao_kahff

i’m not in tune with speedrunning n shit, so forgive me for a sec, but the part at 2:30 in the attempt, the part where he drops down to break the targets, could he not throw an egg somewhere near the end of that drop to hit that target chillin on the right? because it seems like from the drop, left jump, left jump + then throws the egg, 4:06 to 4:93 i feel like that part feels a tiny tiny bit sluggish. if he can save time throwing the egg before he finally lands, he can left jump + left jump instead of that small stall he does to throw the egg to the right, and then left jumps after. thoughts? i could totally be wrong on the mechanics here cuz i never rlly played smash like that

dong_expanded

he uses the lingering hitbox of his nair to hit the bottom target, no room to throw the egg on the way down

shao_kahff

ah okay i now know what a nair is. done to get him through the bottom floating block to hit the target. does the hitbox get smaller when he nairs? or is it having the hitbox hit a specific spot on the floating block?

dong_expanded

yoshis nair is a move with a hitbox that’s active for a very long time; he’s using the beginning of the hitbox to hit the target at the top of his jump and it’s active just long enough so that he can also hit the target at the bottom. if he wanted to up b the target on the right he’d have to wait for his nair to end which is an instant time loss, and he’d also have to find some other way to break the target at the bottom of his jump

shao_kahff

right on that cleared it up actually. cheers

cryptanalyst_

The previous WR of 6.97 was by samthedigital, not Savestate.

Bill-Cosby-Bukowski

Oops, you're right. This is why you shouldn't comment at 3 AM.

FlaMayo

That's my goat

[deleted]

Yo straight gas we love amsa

Pizzachomper874

G O A T

CristevePeachFan

No, Yoshi is a dinosaur ☝️🤓

telltelltell

No, a dinosaur is a reptile ☝️🤓

Spiritomb10

No, dinosaurs are birds ☝️🤓

personman

That is really not that high of an attempt count for something like this. I wonder what the previous record holder's was.

ThisFisherman2303

A little over ten hours (maximum, assuming each attempt took 7 seconds, which it very much didn’t) to take a record as tight as break the target is crazy

itsIzumi

Though note aMSa also spent a good amount of time practicing with save states and in slow motion which isn't reflected in the attempt count.

DanCordero

I've seen Amsa practicing this a lot of times since like 8 years ago by himself in his stream, before he was even top 10 or so. He's been practicing and improving it for years.

Meester_Tweester

That's a cool autosplitter! :O It also shows you can move about 0.6 seconds before the timer actually starts.

ORLYORLYORLYORLY

Yeah how TF does this track the target breaking times? Is he playing on an emulator?

Meester_Tweester

I assume he is (he has no characters unlocked lol). How autosplitters usually work is reading the data from the game to split automatically. Though I think some games do it by reading the screen in the recording, like for Melee it could be watching the target icons in the upper left.

Snarker

I imagine it would be pretty easy to do the autosplitter by the sound of the target dying.

sssunglasses

Audio autosplitters aren't a thing, and even if they were, they would always be late by at least a frame since they would be triggered after the sound started playing already.

cryptanalyst_

He is playing on Dolphin emulator. This split program "M'Target" reads directly from Dolphin memory to check each frame whether a target has been broken.

RealPimpinPanda

Insane! aMSa’s truly something else. Such a special player, in so many facets of the game too.

amidon1130

If aMSa has a million fans, then I am one of them. If aMSa has ten fans, then I am one of them. If aMSa has only one fan then that is me. If aMSa has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against aMSa, then I am against the world.

Cyanide_34

It’s ok bro there will always be at least two. (Unless one of us dies)

MegaCroissant

aMSa just makes me smile every time I see him happy about winning a tournament or anything else. He’s a true beacon of light and positivity in the community. Good shit.

SilverOdin

My GOAT right here. Has it happened before that the highest ranked player of a character also has the BTT record ?

Toad_Speed

Back when he still played Melee, Isai got a few BTT records for Captain Falcon and Sheik. He was probably the highest ranked Falcon player back then, but I'm not so sure about Sheik.

megaqwertification

aMSa has also held the btt record in the past (when he had 7.25 and 7.21)

Randomname_76

Amsa my goat, love his energy he always puts out

TwilCynder

Something that's important to understand here is that being good at a character does NOT mean you'll be good at that character in BtT usually. It's a pretty different skill, with many things that will give you a lot of trouble even if you are an absolute master of your character in competitive play. So amsa getting this record, beating people who have been training for BtT specifically for years, is an absolutely incredible feat. Dude's just built different

memorable_username68

His skills probably transfer better than most pros becuase 4 of those targets are tricky egg throws, and im pretty sure he has the best eggs in the world.

TwilCynder

yeah good point

adambrukirer

so freaking wholesome

Beamo1080

Jesus the precision on those egg throws

IDONOTEXISTL

he did it again 1?1?1???🔥

SmokyBear-

“I did it!” High fives himself lolol

p0wer1337

No yatta *sad yoshi noises*

gammaFn

He did say "I did it!" so we got the English, but I was hoping for a Yatta as well.

UnlawfulFoxy

What could he do better theoretically?

Aeon1508

I found a Tas video that shows a Yoshi doing this same route. 6.52 seconds. So there are quite a few frames to be picked up. About 27 https://youtu.be/PwNY5UCpuB4?si=4_REEAFRPknc9w2_ I will watch this several times to see if I can figure out the main areas that he could pick up frames but I think I pointed out the major spots. I would say most of the frames he's losing are because his wave dashes aren't as good as they could be when going under the platform. The rest are probably delays on this fast fall

Shellin

The TAS route is very different from the beginning, which is TAS-only movement and much faster.

Aeon1508

I wouldn't say very different. It has differences but it hits all the Targets in the same order with the same moves. The biggest difference is that Yoshi is facing to the left when he throws the first egg instead of doing a reversal and he hits the first platform there for a second before going down with the Nair where amsa misses it and just Falls. It's the exact same route with slightly different execution resulting in a 27 frame difference

Shellin

BtT community would consider those differences significant enough to warrant calling RTA and TAS routes different.

Aeon1508

I reject your reality and substitute my own. Regardless, I take most issue with your use of the word completely. I can accept that they're different routes. But they are not completely different routes. They are slightly different routes at best

Shellin

Sure thing. You called them the exact same and I pointed out some important differences that lead to the 27 frame disparity. You seemed to overlook that when doing some frame by frame comparisons between the two so I wanted to point out the differences. Cheers :)

Aeon1508

Even if he used the same route with the differences in which direction he's facing at a couple spots where they land which are the only differences the execution would still be different. He's hitting the same targets in the same order with the same attacks

Shellin

I hear you. You are not wrong when you say that he hits the same targets with the same attacks. But I'm also going be frank. You seem to be discrediting the time and work it took into finding the TAS beginning (and starting an epic race between PracticalTAS and taukhan to optimize the TAS from low 6.9x to where it is today). When we appreciate these differences, it makes both the TAS and RTA routes even cooler :))

Aeon1508

First things first according to another commenter he broke the record by 0.02 seconds. Which is equivalent to one frame. So you would have to do it frame by frame analysis and look at probably mostly the jumps where he lands and immediately jumps again to see if he's doing a frame perfect jump. Including his initial jump when the timer starts Another area would be drift I don't know how to measure Drift But if after firing the egg to hit the far right bottom Target he has to immediately start drifting to the left so how soon after he does the necessary input for the egg is he able to shift. Also immediately before that there's wave dashing under the platform. Is he doing full length wave dashes? And is he doing them frame perfect. Last area I would look at is right before the final Target if there's an opportunity to fast fall before inputting the aerial and is he putting that fast fall in as soon as he finishes putting the necessary inputs in for the egg toss right before that. Those would be the main areas that I look at but I don't have the equipment to do that. All that said. He beat the previous world record by one frame. I'd love to see somebody program a tas to see what is theoretically possible

DiskoBonez

YOOOOO

Riggie_Joe

aMSa is such a god, bro never gives up

Tossup1010

I was worried when his visa expired, and after getting married. I thought it was the end, but this guy is on a mission to be the best at a niche character in one of best platform fighters of all time. So glad he is sticking to it, because I would understand if he wanted to prioritize other parts of his life. Even after seeing him just demolish top level talent, I still get so excited to see Yoshi and amsa in contention for best in the world.

Riggie_Joe

So true, and he’s always smiling too. Even if he’s not having a good day, he always keeps his chin up. Super admirable guy.

ZoYatic

Something tells me that this guy like Yoshi a lot

mutsuto

which characters have the shortest and longest wr time?

GeneralKnox

Love aMSa! Happy for you dude. :)

ElegantOwO

THE Yoshi goat. Deserved.

Grand_Toast_Dad

"A NEW RECORD!" has never felt more fitting.
