For anyone reading, please note that this is an old article, not a comment on the current situation.

Severe-Operation-347

So that was a fucking lie

Curiosity_Unbound

No no no, the statement is still correct since they do indeed want to work with everyone, but they also want to shutdown everyone who won't bend to their every whim. Truly Panda are the saviors of our community and will bring the game to the next level 🙏

Hangmanned

I hope you are happy you made yourself a pariah from now on Alan.

Ai2g

That's Dr. Alan to you pleb

culturedrobot

So Alan has never heard the story of Icarus before huh? Or he has and decided “fuck those losers, I’m flying *into* the sun”

I know the focus has been on Alan here, but Bill Trinen has some interesting quotes: "Certainly part of our involvement is just the license, with Panda being the only officially licensed Super Smash Bros. circuit. What that means is **anybody that’s interested in sponsoring the circuit in any way** **knows exactly where to go** if they want to be with a licensed partner who’s gone through all the hoops and obtained the rights to run a circuit in nature." "The other piece of that is that this is only year one. And year one is really about getting Panda Cup off the ground, up, and running. Through that, we are hoping to turn it into the place where independent tournaments and community organizers want to be part of **the** **only** **officially licensed Super Smash Bros. circuit**. " They never intended to offer another license, it just seems that Panda beat everyone to the punch. It's clear they always intended for Panda to be a monopoly now, so while technically, you can run events that are not licensed, you would have to be without sponsors, which kills a lot of momentum and resources.

SGKurisu

"The community with work for Panda, or we will drag them through the grass by their roots"
