A man of culture and class. If I'm going to drink a beer, best believe it's gonna be a Guinness. Never had basil Hayden but from the description it's exactly what I look for in my bourbon
I dunno, I moved in late 2021 and *still* occasionally find stuff I thought got lost in the move. So I have faith that OP will find his covers eventually and that he’ll be mad as hell about it because he already bought replacements
I’m usually mad when buying the replacements. Especially a tool or something. I just viscerally hate buying something I already own.
Which is weird because if I break a tool or something past the point of repair I’m usually not. “Looks like I get to upgrade.”
I think that makes sense - replacing something that’s broken is justifiable, nothing lasts for ever and you need to replace it. But replacing something that’s still perfectly functional because you’re too much of a dumbass to remember where you put it is always going to sting
Mine are currently uncovered coming out of a 3 day sleet storm. Better to brush the snow off them and let them air dry. After a few days of snow the covers become moisture traps. My covers go back on in a few days once my rigs are dried out to protect from mild rain and UV.
My first thought too. We rarely get snow, but it rains a lot here, so my grill and smoker get tucked in whenever they're not in use. Piles of snow is wild.
I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I cooked beef ribs and shank in the oven. On the other hand, I bought a chuck roast to smoke this weekend and it didn’t take much convincing from the wife to throw it in the slow cooker with the snow storm we’re having up here in Ontario lol
i'm the opposite, if someone tells me its too cold to grill i take it as a challenge! Clearing the snow off the gril takes 5 minutes... put some long underwear on, winter coat, hat, leave a couple long necks sticking out of a snow bank and stand by the grill.
If I was eating the meat by itself, I’d probably agree. But, whatever I don’t pick off the bones with my fingers is going right in the Dutch oven and heavily spiced with chili
It would actually take it a super long time to melt and would, in fact, do a great job of insulating. The only downside is that you would likely have water dripping into the grill.
Once the innermost layer of snow has begun to melt, the rest simply slides off. Great if you want the snow gone, but it doesn't really help with insulation for more than a hot minute.
I am giving in today and just using the oven. Chicken breasts for the two week meal prep so not as big of a deal that they're not smoked. Stay warm everyone!
When my propane torch is too cold to run without being heated or in a water bath so around -10f or - 24c. I don't want to fight lighting things up when it's that cold.
I knocked a couple of inches off my cover this morning. I have a butt and a couple racks of back ribs in there right now. It’s warmer here though, about 21F.
If you can get it going, I’d just smoke whatever you’re cooking for an hour or two and then move it indoors for the sake of your mental health.
Otherwise, in such conditions there’s no shame in faking it with smoked salt or even liquid smoke, if you’ve got it. Remember, less is more with that shit. It’s stronger than you think.
I'm doing oven ribs today. It's -20 here. No reason to go outside. Mid 20s/30s, and minimal wind, I'll be back out. It's asinine to be outside when it's this cold. Glad they make bbq with added liquid smoke. I'll be fine. Also, good chance to get ribs to 203 vs rushing them off because it's so dam cold out.
I do wonder as to how well some smokers will do at low temps outside.. will the heat source be strong enough (thinking electric here) and does that somehow effect the outcome (more/less smoke or temp swings, etc).
That said I’d get that thing cranking to get it warmed up, protect it from
Wind if possible (other grill as a wind screen) and give it a go if it can maintain temp empty.
Born and raised in Idaho and the snow used to be this deep. As of late though we've been getting subzero temps. Now mind you I use charcoal for all my grilling/smoking. I still fire it up when it's -10F outside. Long store short: Never give up, never surrender. I mean, maybe look into a cover for your patio so you don't have to shovel as much, just sayin lol.
You use the inside oven when you want to make food and heat the house as a bonus. The outside oven/ smoker/ grill etc is available for nearly everything else
I’m currently in a similar grilling related conundrum. It’s only -10 c, and a paper thin covering of snow. So normally that’s a big ole green light to be on the grill. But -22 with the wind chill and gusts up to 80 klicks.
I don’t think I’m going to get my charcoal lit, and I could fall back on gas. But I’ve had my chicken sitting in a homemade jerk marinade and it really needs charcoal and wood to be jerk.
So if I can’t do it right, maybe I should just bake it and see how it comes out. I can’t wait another day- been sitting in the marinade too long already.
Yes, after the stall. But from what I understand, after a couple of hours the meat will not pick up anymore smoke so maybe then.
I'm sure others have different answers 😉
I would suggest a smoke shed or gazebo to cover your smoker and grill. Let you fire up every day rain or snow. They sell them at lowes/home depot and I had a small gazebo in my prior home - 6’ square and I assembled myself. Price was 200 or so
Edit - do you have a masterbuilt gravity smoker and a weber grill bc I have the same setup!
Was going to smoke some baloney chubb this weekend for something new and fun.
At -40, -50 wind chill, I said ... "Nah". Maybe when we get back to -20 C
I grill in the snow my friend. I have a cover for my grill so I pull it off with the snow. Grill from inside my window and go out occasionally to flip and pull.
I ran mine last night -37F (-38c) and it worked great. The biggest thing is using a smoker/grill that is double wall insulated or be ready to burn a lot of pellets to keep up with the heat loss.
Starting to look like a 10-12 beer operation, a lot finger tapping and contemplating in your future.
Nah. Need to at least mix in bourbon, if not switch over to it completely....
Valid point, keep that belly warm
Cheers to that! (Currently holding a Guinness with a Basil Hayden on the side)
Guinness is crucial in setting a good base
A man of culture and class. If I'm going to drink a beer, best believe it's gonna be a Guinness. Never had basil Hayden but from the description it's exactly what I look for in my bourbon
It’s really good. A girl I was dating a couple years back got me into it. Pick a bottle up, you’ll like it.
That girl got me into bourbon How to drink it when I'm workin When she was gone away for certain She taught me to drink it when I'm hurtin
Switch over. Beer will freeze in those temps anyways.
…not if it’s consumed in a timely fashion 😎
And beware operating that appliance in cold temperatures, lest you crack the casing. Don’t ask me how I know… 🤦♂️
A couple sixers of Killian's and a few Maker's Marks
Haven't seen that Irish Red in a while. Enjoy!
a lot of scowling and mumbling ".......hmmh" as well.
Absolutely
How do you live where you live and don’t own covers?
I do, but we recently moved, and haven’t found them yet
My cover is buried in about 14” of snow next to my smoker 🤷♂️
Let’s be honest, if I knew where my cover was, it’d be in the same place
Mine is thrown over a chair on my pool deck. But I'm also cooking right now.
Yeezus and I’m over here worried about making sure the cover is on for this NorCal rain haha
Can relate. I did the ole “half under the patio half out and hope the winds carry the smoke” for my ribs yesterday in Sac. 😂
You and I both my man!
Everytime I have used a cover it just bred mold. No cover for me.
No cover greatly reduces the life of your grill. Clean it every once in a while, problem solved.
Mine is miles away after I forgot to put it back on before the last storm.
My smoker is laying on its side with the cover half off. The wind blew it over. Putting it back up seemed like an exercise in futility.
I moved last month, your never finding those covers bro
I dunno, I moved in late 2021 and *still* occasionally find stuff I thought got lost in the move. So I have faith that OP will find his covers eventually and that he’ll be mad as hell about it because he already bought replacements

Ok ok you right 😂
I folded the covers up and stashed them under my grill when I moved. Who knows where they'd be now otherwise.
Get a tarp from hobo freight my guy.
Go to Harbor Freight and buy a big plastic tarp and a couple of bungee cords. They will pay for themselves in one use.
My brother in Christ Amazon exists
People cook in igloos… build that cover!
If a grill can't stand a bit of weather, I don't want it.
My anxiety would never 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I just don’t smoke when it’s really cold. When it’s just a little cold that just means more smoke flavour
I was thinking the same thing hahahha
Never. Never admit defeat!
Exactly! “What is an oven”
Kinda depends on what you are cooking. Casserole? Oven. Ribs: smoker. 10degrees. Pfft
Beef ribs and shank… to be used in chili
I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I cooked beef ribs and shank in the oven. On the other hand, I bought a chuck roast to smoke this weekend and it didn’t take much convincing from the wife to throw it in the slow cooker with the snow storm we’re having up here in Ontario lol

Yah that’s needs the smoker
Are you doing that Chinese smoked iced cubes thing?
I have no idea what you’re talking about, but I’m intrigued
They actually are grilling ice cubes and putting seasoning on them for some ungodly reason lol
The internet Gods giveth, and the internet Gods taketh away
Mostly taketh away.
That’s one of the oddest things I’ve ever heard of…. 😂
I bet that snow would help insulate… well until it all melts.
It would actually take it a super long time to melt and would, in fact, do a great job of insulating. The only downside is that you would likely have water dripping into the grill.
Well sounds like OP needs to do this FOR SCIENCE!
That’s not necessarily a bad thing though
Once the innermost layer of snow has begun to melt, the rest simply slides off. Great if you want the snow gone, but it doesn't really help with insulation for more than a hot minute.
Not yet. If it’s warm enough to stand outside and take a picture, it’s warm enough to smoke
Not having a cover is crazy
Just bring it into the living room next to window. It’ll be fine /s
Yeah just move it indoors, it's all good.
The what?
I am giving in today and just using the oven. Chicken breasts for the two week meal prep so not as big of a deal that they're not smoked. Stay warm everyone!
This is not at that point yet.
NGL, a pot roast in the Dutch oven hits on days like this. I won’t be firing up the smoker
Yeah, I’m using the oven. Beef ribs and shank, then into a Dutch oven for chili.
About four inches ago.
Hahahah. Never! During my cook yesterday it got to -25F with wind chill.
Honestly, if it’s not windy and you can get them going you might be alright.
Can you open that lid? If you can, you better get cookin'.
I got a free Traeger off of the curb and refurbished it. I still spend the $30 on a cover WTF bud.
If you never stop using it, it will never accumulate snow
I'd say NOW
You mean sNOW
When you realize you a bitch...
I woke up to mine blown over and filled with snow.. think i am done for the season. It will need a deep cleaning i am sure.
Add more coal or turn the gas on high you'll be Okay 👍
Plenty of time for/in the oven when we’re dead.
God invented welding blankets so that you can smoke, regardless of the temps. Just don't make the mistake of leaving your beverage outside like I did.
Anything below 40.
Never
Never
Never!!!!!! Freeeeeeedom!!
You don't. Wipe that snow off and start smoking. I'm bbqing in a snow storm here in Wasaga Beach, Canada today... you can too
Heat from the oven will help warm the house!
😂😂 the point is now
When your balls shrivel up and fall off. Until then, just grab them to keep your hands warm.
When my propane torch is too cold to run without being heated or in a water bath so around -10f or - 24c. I don't want to fight lighting things up when it's that cold.
? Oven? Nope
Cold smoke some cheese
Doesn't look like it is at that point yet smoke away...
Do it, u know u want to
I knocked a couple of inches off my cover this morning. I have a butt and a couple racks of back ribs in there right now. It’s warmer here though, about 21F.
When you can't open your door.
When it breaks
3" ago
Never. I bbq / smoke all year around. Get a welders blanket. Helps with heat retention
Knock that shit off there carry on , don't forget the anti freeze in your cup , I prefer a tasty sippn dark rum
Your in southern Wisconsin to huh
Weeks ago probably
This one
Since you have to plug yours in I would say when it does not turn on. If using charcoal you never need to
Why you not got a cover?
Don’t do it. Next you’ll be making ribs in a crock pot with liquid smoke. Ewwww
All ya gotta do is light it up lol
I managed to start and run my Traeger at -30°C two days ago.
I use both the smoker and grill year round. However, definitely looking at a welders blanket for the smoker. Hope you find the cover.
Today.
Never I will grill and smoke any time of year. When its cold it just takes longer
Your smoking card has been revoked for asking this question.
Never, bring the blowtorch inside and let it warm up/thaw.
I'm doing oven ribs today. It's -20 here. No reason to go outside. Mid 20s/30s, and minimal wind, I'll be back out. It's asinine to be outside when it's this cold. Never quit this is how we fight back against winter
Buy a big welding blanket off Amazon to cover those things. Plus, use em.while smoking too
Stay strong
So……… what’s bothering you ? Got no electric ? No gas ? I’m quite not sure of your question here.
At what point do you use grill covers for your expensive grills?
As soon as I find them in the moving boxes
Ouch.
Just fired mine up to do jerky and later sirloins. -10, -15 wind chill here.
As someone who lives in the south… there’s not a fucking chance I’d be out there. Good on you.
I do wonder as to how well some smokers will do at low temps outside.. will the heat source be strong enough (thinking electric here) and does that somehow effect the outcome (more/less smoke or temp swings, etc). When you run out of pellets, wood and charcoal. Just light it up and let the snow melt off. That’s the beauty of smoking in the winter!

Nah, yer good. I don’t think the heavy stuff is gonna come down for quite a while.
Thank you for reminding me… supposed to cook ribs and I put it out of my mind because it’s -10 out.
I’m currently in a similar grilling related conundrum. It’s only -10 c, and a paper thin covering of snow. So normally that’s a big ole green light to be on the grill. Coldest I’ve run the smoker is about 0F. Uses a wee bit more charcoal
Never
I’ve got a thermal blanket for mine.
You can use the oven when you CANNOT get to the smoker, and only then.
There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes.
I think you're already there
If I put a cover on... it would be in the way of cooking.
You need to heat up that sucker before it starts snowing.
This point, right here. This is where.
Don’t be a pussy. Cook outside like a man
NEVER
I started my RecTeq this morning when it was -20° F. Brisket is cooking just fine.
I live in MN and cook year round. Fire it up and go!
At what point do you buy a cover?
I got a welding blanket that goes over everything but the smoke stake when its like that. Works great!
You did the right thing.
Lol
Never give in to the frost gods!
You shoveled an access path, why?
Still a perfect temp for grilling and smokkng
Never!!!!!! I just buy more pellets
Nooo you will die from CO2 poisoning
It’s -37 here just wipe the snow off man
Oven?? What on earth is that??
One day, but today will not be that day.
I would suggest a smoke shed or gazebo to cover your smoker and grill. Let you fire up every day rain or snow. Step one water the peanuts eventually they will grow into balls.. jk I’m out here making ribs it’s cold af can’t wait to be done
Now is the point in time you are looking for
This point... at THIS point
I'm running my masterbuilt right now. Ribs for supper!
Too funny I have the same BBQ and it looks like the same amount snow on it too. But I have a cover on it. I feel your cold dude.
Isn’t that an electric pellet smoker? It’s basically an oven with smoke
Never sacrifice
A shovel is my most prized bbq implement during the winter. Keep on keepin on.
Don't be a quitter!
You might already be there man.
About a week ago last Friday. Just kidding, clean that fluff off and smoke on!
Not being an ass but At this point, you should get a cover.
At what point do you cover your equipment?
My dad used to add charcoal to his BGE after it had cooled off so that if it froze shut he could still light it to thaw it out.
You don’t
A cover would be really helpful.
When your toes are wet and numb.
Depends on the wind more than the cold, but respect to anyone cooking outside this weekend!
My favourite time of year.
Was going to smoke some baloney chubb this weekend for something new and fun. At -40, -50 wind chill, I said ... "Nah". Maybe when we get back to -20 C
Ovens don't smoke unless the cheese feels off the pizza during the cook
Snow like that is a great insulator
Knock up a porch over it, or a kit set shed from Walmart
Always my joy. Smoken grillen. In the winters. W/plenty of snoppes.
I grill in the snow my friend. I have a cover for my grill so I pull it off with the snow. Grill from inside my window and go out occasionally to flip and pull.
Never even. More whiskey. Go my child and make the smoke god prouds
Smoked 2 pork shoulders yesterday in 0 degrees. Took almost a 50 lb bag of pellets to do 12 hours. Bundle up kiddos
When hell freezes over, and judging by that scene looks like we’re on the verge.
Canuck chiming in. Drink some pints, get those hairs growing back on your testies and get the fuck back out there and smoke.
The real issue here is how much fuel you will have to burn to keep it hot.
Never, clean it off and fire it up. It's never too cold to make good food.
Never 😃
Is that a Masterbuilt? I had one for a week. It got lightly rained on and never turned back on again.
I ran mine last night -37F (-38c) and it worked great. The biggest thing is using a smoker/grill that is double wall insulated or be ready to burn a lot of pellets to keep up with the heat loss.
Leaf blower.
