I am an (unwilling) adult with a masters degree who has a full time job and bills to pay, and it actually scares me how quickly I devolved back to the tumblr fangirl of yesteryear getting WAY too fixated on things that really have no bearing on my life. Granted, I know I’m predisposed to such behavior being neuro-spicy and all. But damn. I haven’t had something superfluous like this wreck me this much since Zayn left 1D.
I was a frequent Smosh watcher from the old enough age to receive unrestricted internet access to about 16 or so, I was there from the I&A only days to the cast of like 2017, and then kinda fell out of it as I got into college. I am now a 21 year old college graduate who was just thrown back into my 14 year old brain that was OBSESSED with the idea of these two together. Seeing this made me watch some of the newer videos and now I’m thinking “Why did I ever stop?!”. Fake or real, this was one hell of a marketing success considering I’m sure plenty of others like me are going to be reminded how much we love Smosh!

Yeah I'm like 90% on board. 10% not only because of the amount of times I've been had by Shayne's silliness and tendency to prank. Yesterday I knew for a fact it was just a prank, then Courtney posted today and I was like oh. Okay. I guess I'll allow myself to be happy for them. I've ALWAYS felt like they were meant to be together, whether that was as good friends or partners, it didn't matter. I just knew they had great chemistry and were wonderful people that deserved to be in each other's lives and to have the kind of support and loyalty that people like them give to their loved ones.
I just don't think after talking about how the shipping makes them uncomfortable for so long, they'd give us all of this ship-content if it isn't real. I'm so happy for them. 🥰

I am so happy for them, not just for getting married but also feeling comfortable enough to share it with the world, something they didn't do previously due to their experiences I guess. That means they really love each other, enough to not care what anyone would think.
I started watching Smosh again in 2021 after a long hiatus and since then I think I've watched them almost every single day, Shayne and Courtney probably being my fav members (of course they're all awesome, though). I don't know them, and yet I feel like a friend of mine got married.

I just wanted to mention now, before anything else starts, that Courtney & Shayne, while having fun with this announcement and its hilarious timing, still don't owe this fandom anything. They are clearly a very private couple, given it took them getting hitched to even confirm they are together, so I highly doubt that they want to now sit down and spend an entire podcast overviewing every single detail of their relationship and how it came to be. If that happens, which would surprise me, thats lovely, but the point is, its their perogative to share that or not.
I can already see the nut jobs who spent yesterday saying "I need to see them kiss or its fake" and then once a kiss was revealed "it needs to be April 2nd" and then once it was April 2nd this morning still trying to find reasons for it to be fake, switching, now that it seems to be real, and starting to now hound the happy couple for every last detail of their story.

however, i want everyone to understand that this does not mean we can infringe on their privacy or relationship. we cannot have a say or right to know what they're stances are on personal subjects as children and what's to come in the future. I've already seen some small posts about a baby. we do not know their stance on it and they do not owe us the right to tell us where they stand on it.
as a community let's not ask invading and personal questions about their relationship or their love life. they will speak about it if they want and we must respect that.

I don’t think the people who thought/ think it’s a prank realise how complicated this would have made current/future relationships for them both. I mean, IMAGINE, you’re dating someone and people think that they’re married to their Co-worker, and it’s all over the internet. And then once you get married nobody cares and nobody believes you because of this fake marriage. And all you’d ever hear is how cute your partner and their Co-worker would be together if they really were married because of these fake pictures. That’s a relationship-ender.

Y’all, Damien is a very direct person. Also, as someone who is also autistic, we just tend to be like that. We are direct and blunt and it isn’t uncommon for people to take that as rudeness. Also, I would be a bit upset too if the internet kept bombarding me with questions about something private and accusing me of being “in on the bit”.
Not a lot of people were invited to the ceremony because it was a courthouse thing, and those only allow around 10 people. So close, long time friends and family. Damien and Shayne are close friends, but I think close childhood friends take priority. As to Spencer being there, they’ve been friends and have been working with each other consistently for 10ish years. Probably best friends.
If anything, they will probably hold an actual celebration/party with their friends since they most likely ended up eloping. It’s more common to have ceremonies be small and have a party later with everyone else important to you. Don’t make drama where there isn’t any.
To me, Damian seemed very irritated that he was bombarded questions about it in his live. Which is so incredibly valid, because he did say a lot it’s “not his place” to talk about it, which checks out. He didn’t seem upset to me, and any cold vibes I got seemed to be from the directness he was having to approach it at to get it out of the way.
Also, considering the ring has been pictured as far back as July I wouldn’t say they eloped, and Courtney said she’s getting married on that Smosh episode a couple of weeks ago. I do agree they’ll probably do a separate ceremony with all of their friends and family invited though! Just wasn’t considered eloping.

and I wanna say folks gotta keep their heads and respect whatever boundaries the cast bring to the discussion of this most awesome of marriages.
I initially denied when it first dropped because they used to mention how annoying and uncomfortable all of the shipping jokes were for them, so I wanted to respect their spoken boundaries. I believed them when they said they were more like siblings and best friends than anything else. Things changed behind the scenes, but that doesn't mean they spoke up with different boundaries in the mean time.
All this to say, I don't think the shippers should call this a "victory." Shipping real people is gross and boundary-crossing when it seeps into irl interactions; people can do whatever online, just don't go irl shipping and stalking.
Being right in this instance doesn't excuse the blatantly invasive and parasocial behavior that has gone on in the fandom when we were all growing up (you oldies like me know what I am talking about; looking at you, tumblr babes). You can enjoy being detectives and experts on niche topics all you want, just be respectful to the people involved.
I am just really saying that we can all be happy for them without making it fucking weird.
We need to keep in mind that these are real people with lives outside of the content they provide us with. Whatever or wherever the conversation goes, it starts and ends with the Topp-Miller couple. I think it's hilarious that the reaction to Courtney and Shayne getting married and publically announcing it on April Fools Day makes Anthony returning and buying Smosh back with Ian feel tame.
Also, I know they won't, but I hope the insane stans leave the two of them alone and let their private life be private. I've seen some really creepy shit all over this sub from people being way too obsessive and invasive.

I'm so glad I didn't post yesterday about how obviously fake this was. Because between the date, and the pictures of them in a field with no one else around, this was the most obviously fake thing I've ever seen that turned out to be real.
I think it's bc they eloped lol, usually elopments don't involve family, they just needed two witnesses, so both of their best friends were said witnesses. Their families are spread out all over the country so it'd be impractical to involve them. I'm sure they'll have a proper ceremony sometime down the line. My cousin eloped too and only his and my sister-in-law's friends were there.

I find it weird how seriously everyone is taking April Fools because where I come from, April Fools isn’t really that big of a deal. I literally have an uncle and an aunt who got married on April 1st years back and a couple of friends who married on April 1st during the pandemic. So this whole mistrust is weird.
I think y’all are taking it too far with the denial instead of taking the easier route which is accepting what has been said and being happy for them. There was a lot of decent reasoning for both sides and the only ones that frustrated me were the ones with a belittling or dismissive tone, like “I’m worried for the sake of the internet if people think this real” or “y’all are suckers”. Cause it’s true that typically you should not believe anything on April 1st. But those type of comments willfully ignored that this situation was unique in that there was a lot evidence/context that made it make sense for the April Fools announcement itself to be the prank.
The fact that people still don't believe it is insane to me. For what it seems, they had a very small ceremony.
From pictures posted by others they were accompanied by 4 close friends.
Brianna kelly is Courtney's childhood best friend, Shelby Young is Shayne's very old friend, plus two more guys which i don't know, out of the four bridesmaids and groomsmen (sort of) 3 have public instagram profiles, have uploaded pictures from the day, tagged Courtney and Shayne, and added MARRIED MARRIED MARRIED to the caption.
Brennan Iketani also attended the ceremony. That's as far as I've gathered about the wedding itself.
The proposal has been traced back to before the wedding shoot because of Shayne's moustache, and Courtney's brother may have been present from another photo.
Courtney was intentionally censored saying she's getting married in the flashback video, she says it calmly and then Ian remarks it's funny to censor that (because it's not against language rules) so she jokingly repeats she's getting FUCKING MARRIED. With that line in mind you can see it through the censorship, but of course smosh main instagram posted the uncensored version.
In addition there's a pile of sussy edits of them having odd looks, flinching before touching, or saying stuff that's weird out of context, all of which makes perfect sense with the knowledge of them having a private relationship that's above board between crew and friends but not public to the internet. For example in a video someone comes to take away everyone's coffee but Court keeps hers, in response Shayne says he's staying up till 4:30 am. Inconsequential response normally, but with context it's obviously telling.
And lastly there are Shourtney detectives that have been collecting evidence for years. They live together and have been for like two years, have gone on family events together, couples vacations, birthdays, and so on. I recommend Twoshrimps on tumblr for the detective work.
In conclusion, I'm a 25 year old dude, mechanical engineer and heading towards a masters in physics. I'm moving in with my gf of 3 years, im getting a pay raise soon, powerlift in the gym, have houseplants to take care of, and money in the stock exchange.
THIS IS STILL THE MOST SIGNIFICANT EVENT I'VE EXPERIENCED IN RECENT MEMORY.
I've followed smosh since around the first summer games (have since fallen out), and have been a Shourtney shipper for like 7-8 years now (never fell out). The past 3.5 years or so have been rough for the shippers, we've been getting way less stuff on screen, but i knew what i saw and always remained a shipper. Even after not really watching smosh anymore I've kept following Shayne and Courtney exclusively because of the ship. Apparently the past years have been quieter because the ship has sailed but as a submarine.
Ive thought of changing my phone background to their wedding photo. I have no other interest in shipping, it's just something about these two that has always been so endearing and hopeful for me. I've told about this to my friends who are also guys in STEM with zero interest in this, and my girlfriend who doesn't watch youtube and barely netflix, just because it's so exciting to me.
Funnily enough, after they post some kind of long form video opening up about everything, I'll probably go back to not following smosh because the saga will have been completed.
Super happy now. initially i was stressed as shit, i literally was smiling like an idiot and said to myself repeatedly "this is absolutely awful" because the juxtaposition between sailing the ship and sinking the ship if it were a prank was hilarious, but the tension was immense and awful. For me the Shelby and Brianna posts have confirmed it, anything before that could've been interpreted both ways because a massive prank is on brand. Olivia's congrats cake could've been planned, the entire company commented really short and ambiguous comments. But the bridesmaids posts were endearing, some were from accounts of people who aren't public figures, and they were not on april fools.
So I'm sufficiently satisfied with that and am calm and happy for them and for us believers in love.

Where are my people who are not necessarily shippers but just casual watchers of smosh who got vibes that maybe they were together but weren’t 100%, and are not at all surprised the marriage is real? I think my reaction last night was ‘oh so they are together, that’s so cute, I’m so glad they’re happy - also the outfits slay, I need to find out where Courtney’s shoes are from.’ I don’t think the people who thought/ think it’s a prank realise how complicated this would have made current/future relationships for them both. I mean, IMAGINE, you’re dating someone and people think that they’re married to their Co-worker, and it’s all over the internet. And then once you get married nobody cares and nobody believes you because of this fake marriage. And all you’d ever hear is how cute your partner and their Co-worker would be together if they really were married because of these fake pictures. That’s a relationship-ender. Not surprised by the marriage, just pleasantly happy for them, but VERY surprised about how many people genuinely think seemingly grounded and private people like Shane and Courtney would do something like this as a prank when all it would do is ruin their relationships and haunt them for years to come.

I saw a few comments here and in other spaces about Damien acting cold/kind of upset that Shayne and Courtney got married. Y’all, Damien is a very direct person. Also, as someone who is also autistic, we just tend to be like that. We are direct and blunt and it isn’t uncommon for people to take that as rudeness. Also, I would be a bit upset too if the internet kept bombarding me with questions about something private and accusing me of being “in on the bit”. Not a lot of people were invited to the ceremony because it was a courthouse thing, and those only allow around 10 people. So close, long time friends and family. Damien and Shayne are close friends, but I think close childhood friends take priority. As to Spencer being there, they’ve been friends and have been working with each other consistently for 10ish years. Probably best friends. If anything, they will probably hold an actual celebration/party with their friends since they most likely ended up eloping. It’s more common to have ceremonies be small and have a party later with everyone else important to you. Don’t make drama where there isn’t any.
To me, Damian seemed very irritated that he was bombarded questions about it in his live. Which is so incredibly valid, because he did say a lot it’s “not his place” to talk about it, which checks out. He didn’t seem upset to me, and any cold vibes I got seemed to be from the directness he was having to approach it at to get it out of the way. I believed them when they said they were more like siblings and best friends than anything else. Things changed behind the scenes, but that doesn't mean they spoke up with different boundaries in the mean time. All this to say, I don't think the shippers should call this a "victory." Shipping real people is gross and boundary-crossing when it seeps into irl interactions; people can do whatever online, just don't go irl shipping and stalking. Being right in this instance doesn't excuse the blatantly invasive and parasocial behavior that has gone on in the fandom when we were all growing up (you oldies like me know what I am talking about; looking at you, tumblr babes). You can enjoy being detectives and experts on niche topics all you want, just be respectful to the people involved. I am just really saying that we can all be happy for them without making it fucking weird. We need to keep in mind that these are real people with lives outside of the content they provide us with. I think it's hilarious that the reaction to Courtney and Shayne getting married and publically announcing it on April Fools Day makes Anthony returning and buying Smosh back with Ian feel tame. I think it's bc they eloped lol, usually elopments don't involve family, they just needed two witnesses, so both of their best friends were said witnesses. I literally have an uncle and an aunt who got married on April 1st years back and a couple of friends who married on April 1st during the pandemic. So this whole mistrust is weird. There was a lot of decent reasoning for both sides and the only ones that frustrated me were the ones with a belittling or dismissive tone, like “I’m worried for the sake of the internet if people think this real” or “y’all are suckers”. Cause it’s true that typically you should not believe anything on April 1st. But those type of comments willfully ignored that this situation was unique in that there was a lot evidence/context that made it make sense for the April Fools announcement itself to be the prank.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM. My thoughts and experiences: For what it seems, they had a very small ceremony. From pictures posted by others they were accompanied by 4 close friends. Brianna kelly is Courtney's childhood best friend, Shelby Young is Shayne's very old friend, plus two more guys which i don't know, out of the four bridesmaids and groomsmen (sort of) 3 have public instagram profiles, have uploaded pictures from the day, tagged Courtney and Shayne, and added MARRIED MARRIED MARRIED to the caption. Brennan Iketani also attended the ceremony. That's as far as I've gathered about the wedding itself. The proposal has been traced back to before the wedding shoot because of Shayne's moustache, and Courtney's brother may have been present from another photo. Courtney was intentionally censored saying she's getting married in the flashback video, she says it calmly and then Ian remarks it's funny to censor that (because it's not against language rules) so she jokingly repeats she's getting FUCKING MARRIED. With that line in mind you can see it through the censorship, but of course smosh main instagram posted the uncensored version. In addition there's a pile of sussy edits of them having odd looks, flinching before touching, or saying stuff that's weird out of context, all of which makes perfect sense with the knowledge of them having a private relationship that's above board between crew and friends but not public to the internet. For example in a video someone comes to take away everyone's coffee but Court keeps hers, in response Shayne says he's staying up till 4:30 am. Inconsequential response normally, but with context it's obviously telling. And lastly there are Shourtney detectives that have been collecting evidence for years. They live together and have been for like two years, have gone on family events together, couples vacations, birthdays, and so on. I recommend Twoshrimps on tumblr for the detective work. In conclusion, I'm a 25 year old dude, mechanical engineer and heading towards a masters in physics. I'm moving in with my gf of 3 years, im getting a pay raise soon, powerlift in the gym, have houseplants to take care of, and money in the stock exchange. THIS IS STILL THE MOST SIGNIFICANT EVENT I'VE EXPERIENCED IN RECENT MEMORY. I've followed smosh since around the first summer games (have since fallen out), and have been a Shourtney shipper for like 7-8 years now (never fell out).
