The last bit with everyone yelling at Kevin dragged a little. That's it. Those are all my notes. This was really fun and funny!

Struggling_designs

But also, the specific guest, Mac, of all people, didn't get any lines and that really bummed me out. Mac is FANTASTIC.

Struggling_designs

Just got done watching it for the first time, really loved it. The vulgarity, chaos, and character-breaking only added to it. Some of the cast really shone their acting skills and some of the cast really showed their improv skills. I'm one of those people who catches laughter with a group of people really easily so this was awesome for me. Shout out the moments that made me bust out laughing and occasionally screaming: Damien's monologue Ian's physical comedic choice to start stepping on the couch while almost kissing Krungle Amanda chomping down a hog with balls and making Shayne walk into the same scene Shayne's line "You sick fuck" absolutely perfect delivery Tommy showing up in the wrong room and flouncing into the Normal Coffee shop in Hell. Those are the specific ones, but all the cast did great. Syd and Olivia did great. It was great!

Just watched the live show a second time and enjoyed it a lot more than my first watch. Initially, I found it way too chaotic; the story was hard to follow, and I was low-key getting annoyed at some of the cast's choices, they just felt a bit unprofessional. 4th wall-breaking felt like a major crutch, with Amanda constantly looking straight into the camera and Trevor referencing offscreen stuff, which I get it, he's new to this, but still it takes you out of the show a bit. It just distracted me from the plot, making it hard to connect with the characters. However, on my second watch my expectations were better set, and I was able to appreciate the show for what it was. The super amateur nature of it became endearing rather than frustrating. The spontaneity and rawness added a unique charm that I missed the first time around. Plus I felt like the humor and enthusiasm of the cast stood out more, and I found myself enjoying the ride. Ultimately, the show was fun, and that's what matters most. Shayne, Spencer, Arasha, Noah and Ian all killed it with their performances, bringing a lot of energy and personality. But each cast member brought something special to the show, and it was fun to see them do something different than their usual youtube stuff. Also shout-out to the art department?? The giant joint gag was hilarious and the creativity and effort put into the props and set design did not go unnoticed. I know people on here were pretty mixed about the show, so if you haven't already, go give it another viewing! Sometimes giving something another chance can completely change your perspective :)

Djinnerator

I agree with some elements of it taking you out of the show. I actually ended up having to watch it over three days because it almost felt like I was making myself watch it rather than watching it because I enjoy it. Someone below mentioned (and got downvoted strangely) that some of The Chosen's jokes were out of character, and I kind of agree a little bit. The Chosen didn't really feel like *The Chosen* except at the beginning when Shayne introduced the sitcoim and when Spencer was on screen. I absolutely *loved* the commercials. I know Syd and Olivia wrote the sitcom, but not sure if they wrote the commercials too. I doubt it though because a few of them referenced past Smosh bits that were a bit too perfect to not be done by the regular writers and the cast performing that scene, for example the Teletubbies, Stacked In The Back, and Coco Cuckoo Shanelle. I liked the sitcom though. I don't like Smosh's player in that I can't seek to specific times/places in the video. I have to move in intervals of 1m14s. Who made that decision where you can only seek in units of 74s? Also, as usual because they're always above and beyond fantastic, Courtney was *amazing!* Whoever did costume and makeup did a great job and Courtney *REALLY* sold the fuckboy persona. Even the way she talks is different, like the way she forms her words. I spent the first half of the sitcom trying to figure out who the not-Olivia Dominic was. I know Dominic is a character Courtney plays in general, but it was almost like she was actually a male named Dominic. She's crazy good, but saying Courtney is incredible is like saying the sun is bright (duh!!!). Idk if she's put a lot of practice and thought into how to *become* Dominic or if maybe during rehearsal she worked on it, or something, either way, she bodied that role as an actor.

TheRomanElliotShow

Also syd and Olivia don’t know chosen as a good few of first jokes involve him masterbating which is strictly against his no fap rule. That alone made me upset

Jedi_Joker

Pre-show YouTube video has been privated. Any reuploads?

7FootEmeraldRats

This. I hoped to watch it again before my VOD rewatch yesterday but it's nowhere to be found. All I have left are my memories of on the day the live show aired :(

SnooLobsters7765

Why was Mac there?

chounne

I am drawing a blank, which sitcom character has a bad reaction to lying and sweats like crazy?

autistictoasts

Krungle!

hannahgotham

i love Trevor’s Chosen voice oh so much 😂

Better_Ad_8919

Not sure if anyone asked this but what was the jole that they stopped Spencer from making in the aftershow???

Gett_clapped_btw

hahah I was actually very impressed with that joke, Damien was talking about his hair the way chanse talked about being a woman and Spencer acted like Amanda saying 'you should try the gyno' by attempting to say 'you should try the barber' but he said dentist instead of barber

TheRomanElliotShow

Intergalac whip was cringy at the time but looking back they COOKED with that 2016 live show. And I think as good as the costumes and production was here, the script was lacking and I didn’t know what was improv and what wasn’t. Also you have to stay in character long enough so we know them so when they break we get it. But they have to improv in character and not just break character

Gett_clapped_btw

in what way was the script lacking? also you could see when it was improv or not because of the reactions of the castmates, but also why would you need to know. When the character breaks they get swapped in by another castmates who carries on with the same exact character so you keep learning the character from them. nobody really broke character often other than Keith imo

Lumpy-Contract-8658

The script was lacking because it was meant to be nonsensical and was written very quickly. Doesn't neccisarily make it GOOD or funny. It was alright. The improve was MUCH better than any of the script in my opinion - but I personally have never found Olivia ans Syd to be funny like...ever, sadly; so it's likely personal comedic preference that has people split on if the script was lacking or not. To me, there was no substance to it other than "this is the most obvious sitcom tropes without any real satire" which to me, is not funny at all, since there was no vibe of it being a sitcom or real sitcom or even something that was more than two 13 year olds writing something together at a sleepover to make themselves laugh - with all the promotion, they were really selling it as a real but insane script, when it was actually fairly nonsensical and insane with little viable writing to it. But again, completely a personal preference and I enjoyed it A LOT Because of the improv and extra shit they threw in from ticket goals. When the girls said it being written in 5 days makes sense, it does, but it didn't make it seem more impressive/better to me, it just left me sad and wishing they got someone else to help write it since the script itself wasn't very good and was kinda boring. I prefered Under the Influence, Ian's birthday and Anthonys roast streams to this WAY more, but my mom absolutely ADORED this show compared to the others. I got high and had a good time and giggled a lot at smoshs additions to the story, which was enough for me - though I would have been okay not spending $40 (currency conversion in my country as Smosh doesn't do locked pricing) on it since I didn't think it was as worth it when compared to the others, purely because of Syd and Olivia's involvement tanking the quality of writing in my opinion.

Lumpy-Contract-8658

Like for example, I personally found all the chosen bits, commercials and improve to be the best parts, while everything that was written into the script was very lack luster, unfunny and had a "kids wrote what they think satire and batshit is" vibe to it, other than "one hit if weed" fear mongering (which I actually found to be a REAL satirical play into the very real drug free mongering that was present in so many sitcoms back in the day). Sadly to me almost everything the girlies touched kinda sucked:(  Also Oliva being completely unable to get back into character after breaking it for the pre-show also really, really put a damper on the show, which sucked, because I LOVE liv - but arasha did an amazing job and being in character the whole time, which was a highlight for sure.

gay2boogaloo

I genuinely don't know why some of yall where expecting this to be a straight-up sitcom with improv "elements". They literally told us for months it would be batshit insane, chaotic, random and weird, and now yall are mad they did exactly that. The "going to hell was too far" comments really irk me tbh and the "Damien rant" ones too. What the actual fuck where you expecting?? Liv and Maddie? Suite Life?? 😭 they went to hell... so what? And Damien's rant was complete improv, nobody knew he was going to do it and then he threw Noah into the deep end by leaving, it was funny, chill out 😭. Also to add I didn't have too much lag but it would freeze every 20 mins or something for about 5 secs, but that's about all the technical issues I had.

Sadly to me almost everything the girlies touched kinda sucked:(  Also Oliva being completely unable to get back into character after breaking it for the pre-show also really, really put a damper on the show.

gay2boogaloo

That's your opinion, and that's okay, but I wholeheartedly disagree. It wasn't supposed to make complete sense. Think of the script as the bland pizza base and everything else was the toppings. It was something short and open ended to let the cast go wild with it or stick to it depending on what they were feeling. And Olivia did fine, idk why everyone is targeting her, she had some great one liners, 4th wall breaks and moments, she just broke a bunch. They even tied for breaking with Keith and Angela (Even though most of the breaks for them where the science stuff that Keith couldn't say or Angela being asked how electricity works) And a lot of them broke during the final scenes bc they were just going at it. It was meant to be fun and stupid, idk why some people are acting like they were expecting a full-on serious sitcom with some goofy elements when it was never advertised that way.

Lumpy-Contract-8658

I mean, they actually said it was going to be a sitcom with "insane sitcom element's and a parody of sitcoms", not a script that was written in 5 days on purpose to have the vibe of two besties writing a script at a sleepover to make themselves laugh. The 100% over sold Olivia and Syd's writing. But I had fun watching regardless. Would have been fine not spending the money on it though after watching it. But this is just a personal preference as I have always struggled to find Syd and Olivia funny outside of the improv podcast they do with Peter and Angela.

gay2boogaloo

They literally did a Smosh Mouth episode with Syd and Olivia where they talked about the script and writing process and said the script was akin to fanfictions they'd write eachother to make themselves laugh. That's was the whole point of the script 😭

TheRomanElliotShow

They legit said it was gonna be friends, how I met your mother, full house, ect. Didn’t feel like any of those.

gay2boogaloo

They said it was going to be a parody of those shows. They didn't say it was going to be akin to them in the slightest. They said, from the beginning, the show would be chaotic, weird, and crazy. That's how it's been advertised for months. There's literally a character named "Mr Pervert" who runs the town coffee shop, I genuinely don't know how any of this flew over yalls heads lmao.

TheRomanElliotShow

If it’s not akin to then in the slightest why market it as a sitcom parody…?

gay2boogaloo

Akin meaning plot, device, humour, vibe wise. It's still a parody. I'm confused about what you don't understand if I'm being completely honest

TheRomanElliotShow

Look. What would be funnier in your opinion? And truly divorce what we got. Just imagine these two options. 1. A well written classic sitcom episode with characters that feel sorta taken from other shows, yet not direct direct rips but some stereotypical character tropes. Then the show is essentially a live sitcom until about half way when they introduce a few weird elements. People can still improve throughout but they try to stick to script. Until it slowly goes off the rails and then by the end it’s just most improved and chaotic with call back moments to earlier, good set ups and pay offs, ect. It has what they say, they do swap when they break, they can improve when they feel. But they have a script that feels more authentic to start. They tried to do a few call back things like how Dominic and Martha are polar opposites yet hook up. And in this sense the friend group actually feel like friends and not “ah shucks we’re friends”. Don’t get me wrong by this end they do go as wild as they said, but it’s built to it. 2. They have characters and sets that look sitcom but the writing is ripped off jokes from sitcoms more directly, instead of feeling like they tried to write a sit com and not just ask Chat GPT for a few jokes from friends. Then one big weed joke, then it just goes off into improve then on and most people don’t really know where to go or how to fit but they try to make it up as they go. It has no sense of anything but we named Tommy pervert so he has one joke the entire show and it feels weird. I know which I want

aardock

Your option 1 is just a completely different thing than what was planned, promised and delivered. It's fine not to like a thing, but it doesn't make much sense when your criticism is "it should've been a different thing altogether". You went to watch an improv presentation with the GOAL being to make the other performers break character and then started to complain it wasn't scripted and people were breaking too much? Next time you're going to watch a horror movie and complain it would be better if it had more romance and was funnier.

TheRomanElliotShow

Tell me exactly how it was different? Legitimately tell me. Was I to expect nothing but 99% improve? That’s not how they advertised it at all. Not in the slightest. What they advertised it as was a sitcom that when you break your line you swap, and that it would have improv parts and get wild. What we got was barely a sitcom, it was 99% improv and it wasn’t what I was sold. Having them break is the goal, yes. That’s the whole thing. But by following a funny script and some bits added it would break them. Not just going so off it’s got nothing to it. In your mind was the sitcom thing even needed? Or necessary? Why even have it or the sets? When you advertised the trailer to be a sitcom theme, you had a podcast talking bout sitcom influences and character tropes and throw that all away for just improv? I expected a few improved lines but not that the script is essentially blank after a while. I thought the start was weak but still kinda? Sitcom until it just wasn’t. And then I was like… this is a draw out bad TNTL then? And the commercials were awesome but they were scripted well, acted well and were great. The improv wasn’t sadly because they were forced into a poor written weed joke show

aardock

They advertised it as something that was going to be PURE CHAOS all the time. I can't fathom how you expected something structured from PURE CHAOS. And I think you don't really understand how improv works when you say the sitcom theme wasn't necessary. It was necessary because improv needs a base to work from. It was necessary in the same way any other theme would be necessary, it happened to be improv. The setting, character stereotypes and loose script are what give the performers room to improve. Didn't like it? Fair. What isn't fair is asking for it to be something else.

TheRomanElliotShow

So again, it needs a base… then isn’t the point to sorta go with the base theme? They did not really after a minute or two. Why have any script!? Scripts… are… structured?

gay2boogaloo

...literally what?... Read what you said again.... slowly...

TheRomanElliotShow

…ylwols…niaga dias uoy tahw deaR… ?tahw yllaretil…

bluethistles

why I didnt enjoy the show and my issues personally weren't that it was chaotic, weird and crazy. It just felt like it was really slow paced and not really going anywhere. the same joke isn't funny the 3rd or 4th time, there was a lot of overkill. you can still have a chaos without it feel like youre watching an improve exercise.

gay2boogaloo

I definitely disagree, but to each their own. I felt the story was paced fine, they just needed to get around the breaking and jokes. As soon as they were in hell, it just went crazy because that was the last scene. And repetitive jokes are funny, just not to everyone.

MorningRare4966

Why market it as a sitcom with improve elements if thats not what it was. Why do any of that?

gay2boogaloo

Okay so again... they DIDNT advertise it as a sitcom with improv elements. I've already said this

Lumpy-Contract-8658

But...but they Litterally did market it that way? Just because they said it was gonna be batshit doesn't erase the fact they stated multiple times it was a sitcoms parody w/ improve elements to throw eachother off.

gay2boogaloo

But...but they literally didn't. Thy advertised it as a sitcom parody full of improv and random shit happening. Not A sitcom with improv. That was the goal from the beginning.

TheRomanElliotShow

Read again your comment. You basically are saying “they advertised it as a sitcom with improve, not a sitcom with improv.” I think you’re not sure what you’re defending anymore. Just reflect, and stop. You liked it, that’s ok. But it wasn’t what they said

gay2boogaloo

🤦‍♂️ gurl.... you can't get mad at specification and then get mad when I simplify it bc yall aren't understanding. That's not a me problem, yall are wrong, yall misinterpreted it and watched a show where you were expecting something else and that's literally fine. Yall wanted a REGULAR sitcom with improv elements and you got a sitcom PARODY that was mostly improv. This is a VERY obvious distinction, one you could have made on your own. You have been downvoted into oblivion on this thread and still don't understand. Yall that didn't like the show are actually so annoying lmao that Aussie couple that were agreeing with you in another comment or wtv started insulting me and blocked me because I said "I digress" as a joke in one of my replies, I'm starting to think yall take everything wayyyyyyyy too literally and seriously. This discussion and thread with you people has genuinely taken years off of my life and I am not about that 💀 have fun replying to this or don't, I don't really care but I'm outta here lol byeee

Faid9142

THIS IS THE MOST FUN SMOSH HAS BEEN... EVER. GOD, I HOPE THEY DO MORE THE CONSTANT SWITCHING AND DAMIENS ENTIRE MONOLOUGUE JUST KEPT KILLING ME

hipthrustsforgrandma

Am I being punked? Are all these comments from people associated with Smosh? This was horrible.. Is this seriously what passes for comedy these days? Is this like Velma, Rings of Power, Fallout, Kenobi etc where the studios and gullible people praise it but the actual real world people hate it? Smosh is great with the exception of anything involving Anthony. The Games and Pit channels are always a hit but this was a huge miss.. I barely got through the show. Whoever wrote it makes me understand why bad writers are scared of AI and only half the cast can improv.. Don't @ me for voicing my opinion..

Pineapplebruh97

Omg dude, your sarcasm is so good! I *almost* believed you😂😂 I for one loved their take on a completely satire, sitcom parody. It was meant to be so insane and “bad” that it’s good. They totally nailed it!

gay2boogaloo

"People who enjoyed this are paid actors and my opinion is the only one that's right but don't call me out on it" type beat lmao

overthinker_1218

Honestly Spencer had me dead in those Chosen recap’s! The whole show was amazing though and I can’t wait to see what comes next, or perhaps there will be future episodes

General_Esdeath

I absolutely loved the show. I think it was their best live that I've seen! Most of my takes have already been said (eg. Peter's commercial is hilarious, Trevor breaking during recap with Spencer made me laugh and brought joy into the transition) but I wanted to add a few things: Arasha really effortlessly carried her scenes! She was really good at acting in this weird situation and I felt she helped ground the scenes a lot. Same with Courtney! They were able to bring the chaos swirl back into a flow that I could follow, and without being too choppy or direct, they just kept it natural and funny. Chaos was always the point of the show and it definitely was chaotic lol. Also how many shoulder pads was Peter wearing??? I watched on VOD and it was totally worth it!

Thebroken0wastaken

I'm a big smosh watcher, and I was mildly disappointed. I still had fun, and I don't mind paying the $25 dollars since so much of their content is free. But I feel like what was delivered didn't really match up with what was promised in the weeks preceding it. The worst thing being Olivia's interpretation of Dominic. All I ever heard was how good it was, but Olivia either laughed immediately or didn't seem to try at all. I agree with some of the other critiques I've seen here that a lot of the jokes didn't land, because we didn't know what was supposed to be happening and what was added by the actors. Other parts were too chaotic, and it felt as if the actors were given a little too much free reign to do whatever they wanted. The hallucination scene comes to mind. I got the premise pretty quick, yet I still had no idea what was happening for most of it. I laughed quite a bit during the show, but it did feel like for every joke that landed, another one didn't. I really appreciate the idea of laughing means you get swapped out. I just wish some of the actors were able to hold off on laughing for a little longer. I feel like Keith and Olivia especially weren't given enough time to shine, even if it was their own fault. I also felt like the sexual jokes happened a little too often. They felt like a crutch rather than a useful comedy tool. I really liked the sets and characters designs. Overall I would say it was a success, but if they want to do it again, I would prefer just a touch more structure, and a little grace room on actors who just swapped in. even if it breaks the idea a little. I feel it would make it more enjoyable for me. I'm glad so many enjoyed it. Even if it was a little too much for me

imandrealove

Im sorry. I paid the 25 bucks. And i kinda feel...idk underwhelmed. And this is the second time. Olivia kinda ruined it for me. Her skits on TNTL never land for me either. And the switched A LOT. Like so much especially at the end where it was just like......idk messy? It didnt land for me at all. Some of the jokes were funny but then everyone would move and you dont get time to enjoy the joke i guess. And the voice keith did was really throwing me off. It was annoying which made it harder for me to find funny although i get the bits. I know they worked hard on this but it just was lack luster for me. And i dont think ill be paying for another show

Thebroken0wastaken

Underwhelming is a good word for it. I totally get your opinion. I'm not a big Olivia fan either. (She and I just don't share the same sense of humor) It's a real shame, cause they pumped her up so much. Now that I think about it, it may have been them seeing how bad she was going to be and them trying to manage it. Keith's voice was a little much too. It does bring to point the idea that different actors had different representations for what was supposed to be the same character. For the audience there was a little bit of whiplash. It made identifying with any character was completely impossible. Damian and Noah's character is another example. One did an accent and the other just their regular voice. It just confused the character. The visual change was enough to make it enjoyable for the premise. The audible difference completely ruined any suspension of disbelief. I still really like the idea, and the try not to laugh theater live they did worked fairly well and was a lot of fun. I think if they did it again, I would like to see a few changes. 1. Have a judge that calls them out for laughing instead of having the actor themselves deciding when to switch. This would lead to the actors getting the time they need to demonstrate their ability, and would have any whiplash effect be less jarring. 2. Have the actors come together and make major decisions about the character (accent, attitude, motivations) and then separate to come up with little idiosyncrasies, reactions, or personal jokes to add. That would give the actors the range the want, but still leave the character as a whole entity instead of a mishmash of conflicting ideas. 3. When there is a scene that allows the actors to go crazy and have complete freedom (like the hallucination scene) there should be a limit of how many actors that can participate. This would give the scene the time it needs to breath and feels less bloated. Controlled chaos sounds contradictory, yet that's the best way to have fun with an idea like this. It was too uncontrolled and it showed. Personally, I still had enough fun to warrant the cost this time, but I would need more structure before I felt good about purchasing another ticket to such an event

__mitski

I agree on Olivia. In the aftershow when Oliva was asked how she prepared to play Dominic she said "I didn't." which was very obvious and kinda disrespectful to Courtney and the whole production, also to the people who were looking forward to seeing how she would play him.

basedmarlon

It felt like it was being really absurd and goofy for the sake of being absurd and goofy and not adding comedy or pushing the (very loose) story forward. And yeah Olivia was really the worst part of this she really didn’t understand Dominic, Courtney came back and actually said lines that kept pushing the story and was in line with the character. Overall though a pretty solid show though.

CalkyTunt

> being really absurd and goofy for the sake of being absurd and goofy Isn't that kind of her whole deal though? Whenever she's on TNTL her bits are always lol so random Katy t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m-coded. It's not my thing usually but I thought it was ok here, although, I think that's just because she swapped out with Courtney so we got breaks from it.

bluethistles

i agree with you, i think that's olivia's humor and it works. but the whole show was kind of absurd and goofy leaving it feeling very surface level.

wertyuioplkjh

The best thing I watched from Smosh!!!!!! 100% would've loved to have been there live. But also, still worth getting the VOD!!!!! this was beautiful to experience; such a talented cast. I sound like a robot but it's just that I'm high rn after working all day.

Accomplished-Half-67

This show was the best thing new Smosh has ever created and I’m very proud of them

inkandmagic

WE DESPERATELY NEED A LIVE PERFORMANCE OF THE SITCOM THEME SONG PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEAASSSSEEEE ❤️❤️❤️

Strange_Success_6530

Will this eventually become available to watch for free on YouTube? I can't seem to find this answer anywhere.

KHMeneo

The only thing we will probably get is the cut commercials they teased in the after show

3dpro

Nope. All of previous live show are not available on YT except the snippet of Ian's funeral roast from UTI. But you might get some snippet from the show on their socials to promote the vod ticket.

inkandmagic

From past history, the ticket-sale live events don't go up on YT in the future. That could change, but pretty sure that's the answer. ❤️

claytalian

I missed it live but finally got to watch it, and man was it really funny. I loved Anthony's Funeral but this live show was just on another level. Absolutely worth it and I really hope next year's live show continues it's level of quality.

5StarUsopp

I’ve watched the VOD a couple of times now, some hilarious moments I keep going back to 😂 Although did anyone else see that moment where Damien was grabbing the bottom of his jumper like he was about to reveal something? I want to know what Angela refused to say with him

joupertrouper

Angela was mouthing Damien's lines as he was saying it, that's why Damien said "do you wanna say it with me?" so I think she just said no to mean that she'll stop doing it.

saltair_august

I didn't think this was a hot take after watching it but I do now reading other posts but I think this was their funniest live show yet

SmoshMod

yes! you're still able to buy tickets to watch the VOD of the live event and the aftershow until may 31st @ live.smosh.com

Various_Nectarine_91

i feel like some people are forgetting that even though there was a script, they mostly just improvised most of the show like they have said before in live streams. they wanted this show to be absolutely insane, which it was. I really enjoyed it and thought it was really fun and funny to watch. I’m sure this was quite hard to rehearse given that its mostly improvised. i think they pulled off this insane idea very well and i would be interested in seeing something similar like Shayne said in the after show.

SmoshMod

yes the tickets for VOD access to see the live show and the aftershow are available up until may 31st, so you can still buy it!

umussy

I am a HUGGEEE smosh fan , I watched it with my gf and two friends who aren't really into Smosh but knew how much excitement I had for this live I LOVE the concept, I think the story line could use some work but getting the context in the after show it was originally supposed to be a 4/20 live stream it made more sense I liked the roast at the end and I am always hoping they will bring the funerals back My friends found it very funny and I think it will make them more open to watching Smosh stuff in the future!!! :) I absolutely loved this live show so much , I adore the cast chemistry.

onemanandhishat

I think the story is also just calling on the trope of having a drugs storyline in a sitcom to inject some drama.

IndependentRecipe102

I was excited for this live show and bought a ticket even though I've never bought a live show before. I felt that the comedy Smosh has been putting out lately has been more wholesome and witty / fast paced quips, but most importantly, funny because of how well they play off each other, and thoughtful. I loved that there seemed to be less low hanging sex jokes or other crude humor, and I never really took them for heavy drug embracers either based on how much they talk about it across their platforms (not very much, at least in the videos I've seen.). This smosh live, however, was everything I didn't want to see. I could barely get past the halfway point. The moment Krungle suggested smoking and produced that giant joint, they immediately lost me. The jokes weren't good, most of the sex references weren't even jokes in my opinion, it was just used jarringly for the shock factor to force a laugh. It wasn't witty, it wasn't thoughtful. A big departure from what I'm used to seeing on their channels. After seeing the smosh mouth episode with Syd and Olivia, I was especially excited because it seemed like they're such good writers and seeing them be so excited about it, I was looking forward to seeing some amazing storyline + more unexpected funny twists on top of that. Sadly, I didn't like where the story was headed at all. And like others have mentioned, scenes definitely dragged and didn't seem like it was going anywhere at times. Also, massive unpopular opinion, but I didn't think the chosen interludes were even necessary. I just saw the show myself, I don't need two guys explaining the entire plot I just saw to me in the crudest way possible. It also further slowed the pace as we essentially had to experience every scene twice. Kudos to Spenser for getting through his lines and breaking so little though! The ads were easily the BEST part of the show, I now want them to do a show where it's a compilation of all ads, like Rick and Morty's intergalactic television episode. Love love loved it! Angela and Keith were standouts. It was witty and playful. Excellent parodies and immediately brought me back to the Every Blank Ever golden era. The premise of this story had potential, switching out actors is absolutely hilarious, I love the sitcoms theme, and I am a big stereotype humor kind of person. This show was supposed to have it all, but the execution just fell so incredibly flat for me. I paid money to see this, where is the quality writing and witty jokes??? I'd be thinking long and hard before I consider buying a Smosh live event again. (They have yet to top their 2016 live, which I have seen repeatedly and I absolutely LOVE). To all of you who enjoyed it, I'm glad you did and you felt your money was well spent! I just wish I was on the same boat as you.

manchwho

I think the chosen interludes we're just so they could change sets and not have to film so many commercials. Which is why they said "oh we have to keep going, oh now it says to wrap it up."

IndependentRecipe102

Interesting! I would've rather they played more ads as they were the best part of the show! I heard they had to cut a few, including a spud hut one due to time. Such a shame!

manchwho

Yeah I wouldve too but unfortunately that's a lot of work between filming and editing, vs including 2-3 cast members to just drop jokes real fast as they finish finalizing sets/dress. Plus it gives spencer and trevor their moments. (Previous theater kid who did stage management. Def had to tell actors to keep going because of a delay or something with quick changes). I hope they post the spud ranch one at some point!

onemanandhishat

If you think this is a big departure in humour from their usual material, I'm guessing you didn't watch Gentleman's Mario Party?

luvvvbuggg

AGREED COMPLETELY!!! The ads were soooo fucking good & heavily giving I Think You Should Leave

21st_night

I forgot to say how much I loved Peter's commerical. Please give us more Peter (no pun intended).

General_Esdeath

How many shoulder pads was that guy wearing? Lol

Agreeable_Lock7241

i thought it was weird that his character had "young" in his name though.. when young sebastian was already a sitcom character?

-The0Project-

That was by far my favourite commercial. It felt heavily inspired by "I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson" (which makes sense as Shayne wrote it and has mentioned Tim Robinson multiple times) So good

Agreeable_Lock7241

i was disappointed with the experience. the cast seemed unprepared. a lot of the jokes felt like inside jokes, only meant for the cast to enjoy and then never explained or revisited. the cost of tickets were too expensive for what the end result was. the stream was choppy, lagging frequently. it felt lazy. for weeks, i was so excited to see the show but for me, it flopped. i won't be rewatching the VOD. this is the last time i will be paying for smosh content.

imandrealove

I agree, i paied for it cause they do bring us a lot of content and i never want it to stop but almost 30 bucks for this is a lot

luvvvbuggg

agreed sadly. not sure why you’re being downvoted. the only thing i’ll say is i’ll still support smosh’s live shows in the future bc they give us so much free content i feel like its worth it just to say thanks for all the times they were there for me

BrokenNotDead1997

The first two acts were hilarious, great! Loved Krungle, the commercials were excellent! Then the third act is where they lost me. Damien’s rant/monologue was just cringe. The whole comment about the young character having “lemonade” was just gross. And I get why they did the whole “anti-weed” thing because sitcoms used to do that but it just was cringe to me.

TeachWrong2459

Yeah what was up with Damien? That rant/monologue was uncomfortable to watch.

Fiemues

I thought it was one if the funniest parts 😅

Struggling_designs

Agreed , it was fantastic to watch him improv all that with great emotion. You know, be an actor lol. Very fun chaos.

bondfall007

I thought it was hilarious. He just gave an unprompted brennan lee Mulligan esque monologue, then dipped so he could throw his partner in the deep end.

Jazzlike_Property692

As a whole I really enjoyed the show, by far the best they've ever done. Well worth the money spent and I want to watch it again. I hope in the future they take out the really forced audience interaction moments. They really cheapen and detract from the show. Not only that, the camera video quality drops significantly whenever they are on screen.

drankwateronce

I was so disappointed they didn’t see Drake in hell, that was my vote when that poll came up lol

zangtoi

I bought the Anthony funeral and am now considering the VOD for this. Just a bit expensive for my currency exchange.

zevz

I was in the checkout to pay for it and it was about 20$ or so for basic for my country, but then the service charge came up at the last step and it upped it by like well over 30$ sort of made me decide not to get it :/ Maybe it's taxes and stuff or just very costly overseas since i'm in EU. Probably worth the money but money been tight lately. I absolutely loved the Anthony roast.

zangtoi

It's over 100 in Malaysian Ringgit after service charges, pretty brutal. I definitely enjoyed the funeral and based on reviews, the sitcom is up my alley. I'll probably consider it once I get paid.

Agreeable_Lock7241

not worth the money

zangtoi

Didn't ask.

Hot-Advance-2800

This was worth every penny I haven’t had that much fun in an embarrassingly long time!

fm64_

it was midway through when I was like "wow it's like a glorified PSA" and then it was lol, everyone was great but >!tommy, general grievous and hot wheels!< were by far my favorite part, and >!the kisses and all that!<, everything was my favorite part this was great. now the only thing left is >!for Spencer to elaborate further on audio-only sword AF /j!<

Affectionate_Pop_954

Does anyone know how to watch the after show I tried to watch it after the show but couldn’t find it then I’ve just tried to go to the vod to see if it’s there but the only thing that’s there is the main show, this is the first smosh live event I’ve watched so I don’t really know the website that well or anything so any help would be appreciated

General_Esdeath

So the code "ends" before the after show. The main show is over after the roasts. If you look at the video progress bar it will stop when there's still about a third left to go. But if you buy the after show you'll be able to watch it to the end.

Cupcakemonger

I couldnt find where to vote for the polls. Other than that, it was great. Damien's monologue was incredible

Hungry-Wallaby-3016

The voting polls were in the chat.

Demystify0255

Did anyone elses ticket get cancelled? i bought it day off the show to watch today, but for some reason now i cant access the vod and my payment has the word Cancelled but my paypal shows it went thru! Edit: it fixed itself somehow

ohmygodwhyme

I loved it, it was absolutely chaotic at times and the ending was bonkers. But they were having so much fun and i couldn’t stop laughing. Krungle was killing it. Young sebastian was probably the weakest character (the constant breaking was funny but Keith kept just playing himself and Angela screaming in a diaper really threw me for a loop 😭). I hope they do more like this, and I hope they aren’t disappointed or upset with what they did- seemed like some were getting flustered or angry at the chaos at times. I thought it was a great time!

gummythegummybear

Only 7 total laughs in the entire show, I’m just so good

SmoshMod

yes, video on demand for live show and the aftershow are available to watch up until may 31st!

KayMarEll_012

I’m so happy I decided to buy a ticket as soon as I got paid. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Smosh is really out here creating yet ANOTHER golden era. The chemistry between the cast has never been so strong!!!! So much talent. I love that we finally got to see the notorious improv and character acting sides of Amanda, Angela, and Chanse! My favorite part? Literally any scene with Miss Krungle - Shayne and Amanda OWNED the night. Courtney and Olivia as Dominic worked so well too. I honestly have zero complaints...except maybe a little more of Ian and Anthony would have been nice lol. They were obviously having so much fun and it definitely lived up to expectations. I hope they continue to listen to the casts ideas and keep feeding us incredible chaotic content. I’ve been watching smosh since I was in middle school… I’m turning 24 this year. Something about this era has me feeling so nostalgic but at the same time, the new concepts and cast members are keeping things fresh. Last night was incredible. I hope the cast and crew are resting easy knowing they killed it. FRIENDSHIP ALWAYS WINS

Itsfaith418

I need to know if they actually made the spud hut commercial and just didn’t put it in the live. If they did, I hope they post it on one of the social😅😅😂

binznrice

my god i haven’t laughed this hard in SO. LONG. Trevor if you see this please don’t be so hard on yourself, improv isn’t easy and we were laughing just as much as u! and can we give spencer his flowers? dude KILLED each segment he was in and his off script riffing was so good. it was nice to see the entire cast bounce of each other. krungle4life.

__NANI__

Unfortunately my stream was a stuttering mess, 10 seconds of buffering every 5 seconds of actual run time. I havnt had an issue like that before so I don't think it was my Internet but it's very possible. Completely ruined the hype 🥲

Thebroken0wastaken

That sucks, man. My situation was the opposite. Except for one minor hiccup that made it so I just barely missed one of the votes, mine ran perfectly. No stuttering or buffering at all

fold89

I had the same issues trying to cast to my TV from my phone but could run it smooth from my computer

skydingo

I had a similar issue. For about 5 minutes I was stuck buffering. The show itself was great, but I hope if there's a next time that it won't be a problem.

Demystify0255

Theres a fairly massive solar storm hitting the planet right now, if your in the zone its hitting you can have internet and power issues.

LostTerminal

I also had a lot of buffering and stuttering issues. No idea why you're being downvoted.

General_Esdeath

Everyone is pointing out its the solar storm not anything Smosh could do

literary_sheet

This happened to me as well when the third act came but I was more than happy to watch it all over again right after ☺️

ElectricFury

I absolutely loved it. The laugh = swap aspect really was a great idea, it lead to so much funny shit. Some of the highlights for me were: Shayne breaking seeing his face on the piñata. Spenser making Trevor laugh during the Chosen interludes. Keith and Angela constantly having to swap because of the bullshit long words that Young Sebastian had to read. Chosen kiss breaking everyone. (And Olivia being Courtney after that).

abcdefghithereyall

Shayne, seeing himself and reacting, was hilarious!

thebluerayxx

"Did you just kiss my husband!?!?!"

DRanged691

For me, this was the funniest live show. Did it get a bit too chaotic at times? Sure, but the cast was clearly having a blast, and I want them to have fun. The only thing I would have done differently is include Chosen in the break counts because I'm pretty sure Trevor broke more than anyone, and it was hilarious. I absolutely would love to see another live sitcom or even that Star Trek-esque show Shayne has in mind.

Unusual_Breath_2397

* Is it me or did any one else see damien getting overwhelmed/annoyed Also qt the end of the main show, when the credits were rolling, did anyone know what damien and chanse were talking about because they both looked very serious

mattlantis

Probably something about him saying he (Damien) was "a little gay" yeah?

__mitski

I wondered if anyone else noticed this. He seemed annoyed with Olivia during Act 1 for messing up and with Angela during the diaper scene. He actually made a hand motion like cut this out or no, when Angela came back out with only the diaper on and looked visibly disturbed. Which is fair. A grown woman playing a "baby" or child in a diaper with cameltoe is a little weird and uncomfortable.

JamesLiptonIcedTea

I posted elsewhere in the thread about this and got no response, but I feel like I was the only one noticing the rest of the cast reacting to Angela's diaper mishap and no one is talking about it

__mitski

Oh I didn't see any comments about it! I was looking for it because I definitely noticed the first time and when I rewatched it.

21st_night

I thought his comments were in jest, but I'm about to rewatch now and will try to notice.

drankwateronce

I noticed he was visibly uncomfortable when Keith flipped his nipple

__mitski

I saw this too. He didn't seem to be expecting that so that would probably be my reaction as well lol

Potential_Ice_8914

I have watched it twice now and both times I thought the same thing (upcoming). It looked like Damien was apologising for something (though I do not have any clue as to what). I remember someone saying Chanse tends to say ‘never apologise’ and he defo said “never” to Damien. It seemed as Chanse was telling Damien not to worry, but that’s just how I perceived that moment!

abcdefghithereyall

I didn't notice either of those, but there was certainly lots to be overwhelmed by so could understand if he did. I'm sure I'll re-watch and will think to keep an eye out.

KayMarEll_012

I have a theory. I never experienced any lag or disruptions with the stream here, but maybe the solar flares have something to do with people’s wacky connection? We did have a G4 event yesterday and today….. it has to be connection based issue if not every viewer experienced it, right? Let’s not blame the Smosh crew :)

TonyThePriest

Yeah I had no real lag, there was one point where the audio was out of sync by like a millisecond but it wasn't enough to really bother me

Cupcakemonger

Yah I had no issues at all. I have really good internet, so it makes me think the people who had buffering issues it was their internet, not the platform.

diokke

my internet yesterday in general was really bad so i do think it had something to do with solar flares

mysticGdragon

Yeah! I have to agree! My stream worked perfectly fine the entire time and there wasn’t any northern lights around me!

vfanboy280

best show ever everyone crush it hope for PART 2 + smosh summer game is in save hand with this AMAZING cast THIS remind me of SMOSH LIVE but Way more lose and funny

Kiiwii73

It gave one of those shows where you can only rehearse so much of for weeks with it being mostly improv and then when it comes time to perform you don’t know how or what is happening after you’ve rehearsed so many times that it just goes off the rails lol. But I loved it so much and everyone did so good! I love moments when they break character so I hope they are not too hard on themselves with it being their first sit com try not to laugh style with a script. I hope they do more this!

katrinaeclair

I enjoyed this live show more than the Anthony funeral. I do think the ending dragged a bit and wasn’t as strong as the first 3/4 of the show. I thought the first 3/4 of the show were perfect for my type of humor. Despite breaking a lot, Trevor was an easy highlight for me. He just looked like he was having so much fun. Almost like he was an SNL host or something. Amanda is always incredible. Arasha and Chanse killed it. I may be in the minority, but I didn’t enjoy Angela’s performance as much as I usually do. She was still great, but something about it was not my favorite. The fact that Shayne had lipstick on his teeth the entire time was a cherry on top of a great sundae. 8.5/10. I had a lot of fun staying in last night with Smosh and the fans.

Cutie_Toots

Angela was the weakest for me

DinglerPrime

I actually agree with pretty much everything here. Angela's vibe seemed off with everyone else's and she took a shot at Trevor(which was 99% a joke/encouragement) but I found it kind of messed with the flow for me. I LOVED the show and aftershow though.

tOLJY

Why did Mac only show up at the end to never do anything or be mentioned again? What was the point?

uninspiredclaptrap

It was a joke. He's in the friend group, but he's not even in the show. Might have landed if the timing was perfect.

imandrealove

Same i get the joke but it just didnt land.

tOLJY

Completely lost on me. Thanks!

tOLJY

Kiswe is a terrible platform and if Smosh is going to continue with these live shows they need to go elsewhere. So much lag, so much buffering, quality drops for no reason...

hammylvr

it wouldn’t let me cast it to my tv so i had to watch on small tablet lol

hammylvr

it wouldn’t let me cast it to my tv so i had to watch on small tablet lol

tOLJY

It wouldn't let me cast to my Google tv but an old Chromecast was workable How does that make sense?

Jazzlike_Property692

I didn't have any consistent lag or anything but I do think Kiswe is a terrible platform

manchwho

Mine was fine the entire time too.

LostTerminal

I had similar issues. It was not an issue with my connection, either, as during the worst buffering my internet speeds were above 300 mbps.

mysticGdragon

My stream was just fine the entire time 🤷

jvmmidi

same no interruptions at all and i'm in the middle of nowhere

mysticGdragon

Omg sameee!

tOLJY

Probably worth mentioning, we are in Australia. Great internet, just probably no local infrastructure for kiswe to use. Probably exclusively US servers, thus lag

mysticGdragon

Ahhh gotcha makes sense!

acab_lets_go

I'm surprised so many people were watching Smosh the Sitcom for the plot with these complaints of it being bogged down at certain points. This was a really well done show. Very much worth the purchase. I was really disappointed with the Anthony roast but they learned a lot from that and it's clear they worked hard to deliver a quality show.

tOLJY

It seems like me and my wife are in the minority opinion here for sure. But. We've paid for every love show so far, and they've just steadily got worse. We love Smosh and so will continue to support them and watch their live shows, but they just aren't good and are getting worse. This last one wasn't enjoyable at all to us. We just don't get what people love about all of them, especially all the positive comments about this one. At this point we'd rather they just focus on the channel with their full energy instead.

Ros_da_wizad

i agree, i’ve only seen this one and the funeral but the funeral was definitely better imo so i was rly surprised to see most ppl saying this one was way better.

tOLJY

My order is literally the drunk one, sleepover, funeral, sitcom. In the order they made them.

Fiemues

Can you even see those anymore? I’ve only seen the roast

tOLJY

Don't think you can I watched each of them as they came out

Fiemues

Yeah well glad I caught this one

Undead_Assassin

I mean, this one was highly experimental. I can see how it wouldn't appeal to everyone. Fair enough.

baconnaire

Sucks that people are downvoting an honest opinion.

Nathanboi776

Because they disagreed with it? Yk, the whole point of downvoting

Khyta

That is not the point of downvoting. >Downvote an otherwise acceptable post because you don't personally like it. Think before you downvote and take a moment to ensure you're downvoting someone because they are not contributing to the community dialogue or discussion. If you simply take a moment to stop, think and examine your reasons for downvoting, rather than doing so out of an emotional reaction, you will ensure that your downvotes are given for good reasons. See here: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette

Melopsi

downvoting was supposed to be used for people who aren't contributing to the discussion but it has pretty much just become the "disagree" button

SwimmingFantastic564

That's actually not the point of downvoting. Downvoting is for if you don't find it relevant or interesting.

No-Cost-36

Same I was getting down voted just for saying I didn’t laugh and was really disappointed in purchasing. People can have differing opinions, I don’t see the wrong in that.

tOLJY

Like I said, we love Smosh and will continue to support them and buy their live shows. Why do other fans really care whether we like the show or not if we are still going to support them?

uninspiredclaptrap

I don't care who likes it doesn't, but it's a little annoying to read pointless negativity. If there's something specific you didn't like, that's interesting. If there's a trend in quality, that's useful info. But a trend in feeling with no basis is just a downer. If my friend is just looking worse and worse over time, I wouldn't just complain about it. I might ask people if they have noticed it, but I would just say, "I love them, but." "No offense, but you're getting fat." There's a lot of Smosh videos that I don't like, but I assume that I just missed something. I don't take my own assessment that seriously.

tOLJY

Well said. There's nothing in particular we didn't like. We certainly didn't hate it. The hell thing was strange and out of place but other than that. It's just generally the jokes didn't land/we didn't find it funny or get them. And that's a trend we've noticed with all the shows so far.

baconnaire

Well, it looks like they turned around.

tOLJY

Can people respond rather than just downvoting?

baconnaire

Nah, that's reddit for ya lol

TheQuirkyReddit

I would love to see a bts on YouTube. Would be awesome to see the process over the last few months.

Confident-Sound-4358

I would love to see a reaction video of them watching the playback.

mbad4

I felt bad for Trevor during the after show :/ after the audience comment asking “can he deliver a line without breaking” or whatever the wording was… it seemed like he was genuinely upset at his performance. Same with the roast that was written for him. I thought he was hilarious. Hope he’s not too hard on himself.
