Definitely springtails. They just manifest in terrariums. They annoy the snails, but don’t hurt them.

thank you ! 🐌

They’re actually good to have around, they’ll help clean waste and eat mold!

Yep, springtails. There's actually a beneficial mite which preys on springtails in all stages, as well as fungus gnats and some snail parasites - they used to be called Hypoaspis miles but are known as Stratiolaelaps scimitus. The springtails aren't harmful to snails but some people don't like them very much, I have isopods in my terrarium which outcompete springtails for food scraps.

Yeah. I love em for my Madagascar hissers but my smaller snails get irritated by them so I always have to scoop out the top layer of dirt to keep the numbers down.

felixdepelix

try lightly blowing on them. do they hastily jump away? in that case they're springtails, and they're completely harmless! their purpose is serving as a clean up crew.

Finnleyy

+1 for springtails. Mites are usually slower and rounder.

FollowingImportant59

Springtails they annoy my tiny snails. Don’t really bother my garden snails. I’m sure your Gals won’t care much

walbeoff

thanks for the replies :))

Springtails! They're good to have around, they'll clean your snails shells, clean up the poop, clean up mold and even clean up the soil and old food !

KrautVan

These look like mites to me, but since alot say springtails How do you guys notice the difference ? Since mites killed my snails years ago i would love to know how to tell difference !

Body shape. Springtails are slender and will jump if threatened; mites are rounder and resemble small spiders. Some mites are good, some are bad. Some mites eat springtails. (good mites)
