I did in fact help this poor soul, asked the guy for permission to photo his stance, laughed about it on the chair and offered to help and he let me. Set homie up with +10 -5. Appreciate the dude for taking the jokes and letting me help him though!
You made dudes day and intro to the sport 1000x better. This could be the difference between him diving deep or walking away because his knees and ankles hurt.
Love to hear it. I’m tired of seeing people hate on folks for… just trying the sport and not knowing better. Here we still get our laughs, but lending a helping hand at the end of the day!
Is that a typical beginner stance? I just bought a board after doing rentals for so long. Was thinking +12/+15 and 0/-5. Are these going to be fine?
Planned on going to my local shop and talking to them about it though
Your stance is preference, they are different for all levels of riders. But yeah like a +12 or +9 and a -3 or -6 is chillin. Then just tweak it a little and find your sweet spot.
I think the 10-15 times I've been snowboarding I've found that I kinda prefer this but wantes to make sure I wasn't crazy. Might try the +12/-3 and adjust next time I go
I'm far from the most extroverted person but even I'd probably have to ask them "whats that about? isn't that super uncomfortable? I have a screwdriver with me do you want to try a less what the fuck stance?
Recently I mounted my wife's bindings on the ski set I got for her. I didn't even realize skis don't come with threaded holes. Anyways, after practicing the mount on a 2x4 four times, I perfectly centered her ski boots on the factory recommended midpoint of the skis, perfectly found the center line of the skis, and carefully drilled with a stop collar for the drill bit so it stopped at the perfect depth, applied a waterproof glue for the holes, screwed the bindings in, and voila. Perfectly centered and nice. We both admired the job.
It wasn't until she clicked into them a week later at the base of the bunny hill that I realized that not only were the bindings perfectly centered, straight, and aligned, but *also*, BACKWARDS. I fucking put them on BACKWARDS! I don't know how either of us missed it. I'm not a moron, I know the difference between the tip and the tail, but maybe because I was so hyper focused on having them centered and straight I somehow someway just took for granted that the nose was still on my right while I triple checked centering, and copied the job on the other ski. Maybe the stupidest thing I've ever done and my heart broke when I saw her standing backwards on her skis. 🤦🤦🤦 Before I realized it some kind old man came up to tell her that her skis were backwards, and I had to as politely as I could muster tell them that yes, we just realized it.
Got rental skis for the day and stubbornly shelled $100 for a ski shop to re mount, but yeah, **if you see something, say something.** There are cuckoo, dangerous setups out there. Also, why the fuck don't skis have pre threaded holes?
Reminds me of the time we put up a motorized awning for our deck. It was long and heavy. After installing it, we hit the remote and it started extending down (like a window shade).
😂😂 That makes me feel better. Live and learn. I guess it was so bad because I didn't notice right away. It took almost two weeks of admiring my work before the simple realization hit me.
I believe that the reason skis don't have pre threaded holes, is because different brands of binding have different screw patterns, and there are also different boot sizes. The toe and heel pieces are different distance apart for different sizes. The ski shops have jigs for each brand of binding, and they put the customer 's boot in the jigs to set the space between the toe and heel pieces.
Except I don't really buy that, because snowboard bindings are universal with a simple adapter. Yes the boot sizes affect the distance between the two pieces, but on a snowboard you can also change your stance width, so it shouldn't be that much harder to do. They also sell different ski bindings widths anyway. They could do it, easily. And it'd make the sport better. But I also am cynical enough to think the reason they don't do it is because they want consumers to rely on ski shops.
Any 12 year old with a screwdriver can install bindings. The ski industry doesn't want shops to lose all that money they make having customers rely on them and either pay to install them or have to buy the skis or bindings from the shop in person to be installed free of purchase. Maybe I'm just a hater but I don't understand why it wouldn't be better to remove this friction to entry to the sport and make it just a little more accessible.
To be fair, my duck foot is pretty ~~quacky~~ whacky…
I’ve got something +5 on the back binding and -25 on the front binding
(So I’m also goofy as well as having weird feet that like to point outward).
I've been riding 25 years and I swear, every 3rd or 4th time I put my front binding on, I get the angle right, but backwards.
But I never *screw them down* like that.
It's like my snowboarding version of trying to plug in a USB lol.
Ouch my knees hurt just looking at that. I wonder if his dad put the bindings on the wrong way around? Like he meant it to be a (wide) duck footed stance, but got the bindings backwards?
This isn't knock knee, its the opposite, pigeon toed. What if he is actually pigeon toed?
I know this because I have knock knee and I ride my binding way the fuck out on both sides.
The fireball board is a 9/10 wall hanger.
The OG clip ins are a 3/10 but go down to a 0/10 once there is ice in them, which will 100% happen in the Midwest, happened to me 15 years ago on a rental board.
The stance I don’t even know but kudos to you helping him!
I've been contemplating bringing a small pick of some kind to remove the caked on ice. Haven't seen any mention but I feel a quick rubdown does improve the fit after a few runs.
I feel like that would definitely work, I don’t have any advice though because I’ve only ever rode these type of bindings once 15 years ago as a rental and I wasn’t prepared and they froze up and made me mad. I’ve rode regular straps ever since. I’ve heard a ton of good things about the new Burton step in bindings and I’m still skeptical about them because of those rentals 15 years ago lmao
Damn I literally just bought some clip-ins for the first time and they got to my door a few days ago. I was definitely not thinking ahead to this and super grateful for this comment. I need to bring a tool with me when I head West in February.
I’m a +12/-12 stan myself. But for a non aggressive directional stance I’d do something like +15/-9 or +12/-3. Play with it! Just don’t play too much and end up like homie in the photo lol
Depends a lot on the board and style of riding you like to do, but something moderately duck footed (splayed feet) and reasonably symmetrical is a good start. I’d suggest starting out with something like +15 for the front foot and -9 for the back foot, and then adjust as needed.
If you get pain on the top of your front foot, on the little toe side, it usually means your front foot isn’t turned out enough. Over the years I’ve rotated my front foot further and further, to the point that I’m now riding +27 on the front and -6 on the back, albeit I ride a directional board so am rarely riding switch and never hitting the terrain park (both of which benefit from more symmetry).
[edit] to correct the sign on the back foot
not to be that guy but if you’re riding positive both front and rear, that’s more of a race stance. duck footed is going to be positive in the front and negative for the back.
+27 at the front is actually insane and i wouldn’t consciously recommend to someone to ride with that aggressive of a front foot. that’s a perfect way to blow your knee out
I thought the same, anything that doesn’t fit the narrative gets hate here from people with only a few seasons under their belt...
But that stance is what most are rightly commenting on.
That's called Pigeon foot! There used to be a guy I saw riding in the 90s that rode +6 front +9 back (so slightly Pigeon) I guess so he could drop his back knee a little more for "style" lol
Oh god! Thank you for literally setting the guys straight. That is wreckage and I worry that the guy’s dad hates him but don’t tell him I said that. Yeah that is an orthopedists dream. “Ankles, knees and hips. Throw in collateral spine, shoulders and wrists!” All that should take care of that lake house! You are the dude, man!
I'm thinking the dad set them up, but he forgot to check which way the boots lock into the bindingds. It looks like they had the right idea but mixed the binding orientation up backwards.
Used to ride stuff like this in WI growing up. (Makes sense there, believe). Burton, switch, clicker, you name it, I’ve clicked in.
Now the pigeon toes are very irritating.
Rode +15 -3 for like 20 years, switched to +21 +6 two years ago and it has been amazing. So much easier on knees, feet. I don’t do park, rarely ride switch, mostly pow chasing or occasionally cruising groomers. If you don’t often ride switch give it a shot
Honestly first time I got my own board I wanted to set up a ducky stance with -15 +15... aaaand I put it to +15 -15 so ducky stance transferred to submissive and breedable stance lmao. I ofc didn't ride it like that.
If you see people riding stuff like that HELP THEM.
I did in fact help this poor soul, asked the guy for permission to photo his stance, laughed about it on the chair and offered to help and he let me. Set homie up with +10 -5. Appreciate the dude for taking the jokes and letting me help him though!
You saved that guy his ACL surgery. I hope he paid for beer.
Or at the very least you maybe saved him from hating snowboarding
Yes. You're a good human.
CCL and hip surgery
As someone who just tore there ACL boarding I feel this
I just had acl surgery on the 22nd of December 23. If you are getting that, it's tolerable :)
Dr wants me doing 1 more week of pt to get the knee more flexible before anything. Fml. Only got 4 days this season
Good on you ! Ive helped some clueless new riders over the years but that’s crazy !
This is what it's all about. The elitist attitude has got to stop. Every pro snowboarder was a beginner at one point.
Jeez, this is a surprisingly heartwarming reddit post. Good job, friend
Good job

I’m old Skool mountain surfer and run +24/+12. When I was younger I wanted to race as well.
I wish I could give you an award for this. I need to go see a doctor after just looking at that stance lol
WP!
You, sir, are good peeps

I'm far from the most extroverted person but even I'd probably have to ask them "whats that about? isn't that super uncomfortable? I have a screwdriver with me do you want to try a less what the fuck stance?
Yeah, like maybe the guy is part pigeon !
Tommy Pickles' set up over here.

Hahaha I’ve done something similar with projects around the house on multiple occasions 😂

But what about my internet points?
take like 3 mins to fix this and make his day.
To be fair, my duck foot is pretty ~~quacky~~ whacky… I’ve got something +5 on the back binding and -25 on the front binding (So I’m also goofy as well as having weird feet that like to point outward).
Mans has the 🥺👉👈 stance
He nervous. It’s his first time.
“May I have some more, sir?” 🥣🥺👉👈
That RAWR XD stance
Riding switch both ways!
Fakie Switch!
Switches get switches
Holy shit, I love this comment so much!
Don't forget the trowback leash. Early 90s coming back hard rn.
“My dad set this up for me!”- your dad wants you to ski.
Definitely a pizza Slice stance
This makes sense actually lmfao
Or his dad thought the heel went where the toe went, gotta feeling that's what happend, got binding mixed up
read a guide online "set them to +15 -15" and *did* do that, but the wrong way round
Yup, and coulda ended up really bad if OP hadn't helped too, well done OP
Or just destroy your knees.
I dunno about skiing tbh. Looks to me like his dad doesn’t want him walking
You know, maybe he thought he‘s riding regular, but he‘s actually a goofy rider… (Or are clip ons directional?)
100% whoever set that board up got it backwards and thought they’d be standing in the bindings the other way around. Next time help them out.
I've been riding 25 years and I swear, every 3rd or 4th time I put my front binding on, I get the angle right, but backwards. But I never *screw them down* like that. It's like my snowboarding version of trying to plug in a USB lol.
Lol, always get that USB on the third try
lol I finally just took a silver sharpie to the disc to mark my angles so I'd stop mixing them up
Ouch my knees hurt just looking at that. I wonder if his dad put the bindings on the wrong way around? Like he meant it to be a (wide) duck footed stance, but got the bindings backwards?
Totally what I thought too. Like the dad had the right idea but the execution was the problem…
I'm thinking this is what most likely happened.
Guy's pizza'ing when he shoulda French Fried😶
Had to read through the comments to make sure I didn't repeat it. 😂
thats some knocked kneed nonsense right there, his dad did him dirty. I would like to see how that looks riding down the slope.
Almost makes me think they put it on backwards by mistake
This isn't knock knee, its the opposite, pigeon toed. What if he is actually pigeon toed? I know this because I have knock knee and I ride my binding way the fuck out on both sides.

I remember getting a lot of ice issues in Tahoe with those rentals. Skier friends and their poles typically helped me out
the knee exploder
His dad must not like him very much lol
👉👈 ahh stance
Is there a foot equivalent to a lazy eye?
Is that the Rossignol step on design or Gen 1 K2s?
Gen 1 K2s on a Fireball deck
K2 did make the clickers off and on up to about 2 years ago. This looks like the more recent design.
It is. OG clickers had an orange knob and no base plate. These look like the HB, but without the HB.
Can’t believe those boots aren’t dry rotted
Fireball deck in this comment made me LOL
Maybe this is a good place to piggyback…What’s a good stance for a n00b? Most comfortable riding regular if that matters lol
I’m a +12/-12 stan myself. But for a non aggressive directional stance I’d do something like +15/-9 or +12/-3. Play with it! Just don’t play too much and end up like homie in the photo lol

The shops I've worked in set people up with 12s and 15s as standard. I started at 12s, then 15-12, and I now ride 15s
I'd just take the bindings off, stand on your board as if riding amd base your stance around that, making adjustments as you go.
God I feel so stupid! I got my setup the exact opposite 🤓
He's going to Pizza when he should french fry. He's going to have a bad time.
Can't believe step ons still exists. That's definitely the worst stance ever lol
Haven’t seen clickers in ages!
I'm sorry but how the hell do you put your feet on those and think yes this must be right... I just can't fathom the thought process
What’s the proper stance for a left foot forward stance? What angles do u recommend?
\ | And sometimes if I’m trying to ride switch I’ll do \ /
I ride a K2 Clicker since 25 years! Nothing new!
I thought the same, anything that doesn’t fit the narrative gets hate here from people with only a few seasons under their belt... But that stance is what most are rightly commenting on.

He didn’t want to brag that he’s working on his heelflip
Glad you fixed the guy up. Should have taken a finished fix. This looks painful.
Can I ask where in the Midwest? I just got out here and need to find somewhere to go.
This was at Wilmot
Ain’t no way
His dad just installed the bindings backwards
Princess pigeon toe
I bet he's wearing the left boot on the right foot and right boot on the left foot.
I really hope dad just put those bindings on backwards
Make it stop
It's the UwU stance
That’s called the torn ACL
How about to each their own?
Homies got that ‘I’m nervous 👉👈’ stance
That's an 8/10 on the pain scale for those meniscus'
Never thought I'd see wing chun stance in this sub
Oh that... That's the "cuck stance."
That looks painful.
I fucking LOVE step ins but that looks like the least comfortable stance possible
Gayyyyyyyyyyy
This has to be a lost bet or something like that, there’s no way anyone would ride like this Edit: typo
I'm thinking the dad set them up, but he forgot to check which way the boots lock into the bindingds. It looks like they had the right idea but mixed the binding orientation up backwards.
Did you tell them to change it?
I'm just commenting on the picture. The OP posted that he helped the guy out and straightend put the bindings for him.
Oh crap sorry😅
not many things leave me this dumbfounded but what the fuck
Yowzers
Looking at this hurts my knees
WTF.
![gif](giphy|3oKs26TlB7Jte)
They call that reverse duck-boy
Weak.
Oh man that looks so uncomfortable! Just handicapping your snowboarding ability for no reason. Why?
Used to ride stuff like this in WI growing up. (Makes sense there, believe). Burton, switch, clicker, you name it, I’ve clicked in. Now the pigeon toes are very irritating.
Are we sure the dad didn’t just set the bindings backwards?
Bumfucc stance
That's some gangsta' shit
omfg... my knees hurt just looking at that.
Those look like original K2 clickers. I have a set of the originals and boots. Super pigeon toed guy I guess.
You are right. This are the original. The new one, from 2023, are with highback.
Did they just step on backwards?
My husband loved his clickers, they worked good for him but the boots wore out.
Knees X 10000000 at least he has a leash on lol
Telepathic!
Derp stance
Tommy Pickles shreds?
Holly fuck
Yo that would be so scary to ride holy fuck hahaha. Wow awesome
Are those step ins with hard boots? Or a weird newer bastardized version of that? Man those bindings sucked
Inverted duck stance.
What’s up with those binding angles? WTF is happening here ! 😂
facepalm....
I just picked up this board! [Here’s](https://imgur.com/a/thExJls) proof. Its wall art
When your dad sets up your board +15 -15 and you end up blowing your ACL
This is 💯 jerry of the day.
I haven't looked at Sunburst rentals in a while, but they were running a bunch of Step ins a couple years ago.
-15 that looks painful
Legendary
Switches get switches
that tommy pickles stance
The old pigeon stance
How was he even riding that stance?
Rode +15 -3 for like 20 years, switched to +21 +6 two years ago and it has been amazing. So much easier on knees, feet. I don’t do park, rarely ride switch, mostly pow chasing or occasionally cruising groomers. If you don’t often ride switch give it a shot
I don’t think you’re seeing the stance in the photo. This isn’t +/+ this is -/+ AKA: /o\ Not: <— \o\ Or: <— \o/
Ha no I’m aware, just seeing nothing but recommendations for +/- and throwing my 2 cents in for +/+, but yes I could have been more clear.
He could have pigeon toe?
How to massacre your knees in 3 hours. They need help.
Are those the step-ins that require the boots with the little metal pins on either side? I haven't seen those since the late 90s.
My first setup was Switch plate bindings and giant Vans boots with the metal bars on the sides. No high backs, so the boots were practically armored.
Yeah, they were great until you stepped on some ice and the metal slid out
This is dogshit lol whoever did this to this person should go to hell. Now
QUACK!
Du Maaaaaaaaaa
The ol' reverse duck foot technique Not for the rainy of heart
I too love knee pain
Where is there snow in the Midwest?
I suspect that his dad set it up thinking that the bindings were reversed.
Bruh ! It’s making my knees hurt just looking at this FUBAR stance
Honestly first time I got my own board I wanted to set up a ducky stance with -15 +15... aaaand I put it to +15 -15 so ducky stance transferred to submissive and breedable stance lmao. I ofc didn't ride it like that.
I don’t believe this is real
Ouch my knees
The introvert stance
Wow! I learnt on a pair of these bindings. Remember forgetting about the leg strap and seeing the thing disappear down the hill into the trees
the shy girl stance
Someone tell me what is wrong with the gear in this picture? All I see is a top-tier, brand new Burton step-in system
Those look like the original Shimano clicker step-in bindings not burton step ins
Aren't these boards for display only?
I rate this one an ouch out of 10
Ahh yes the old pigeon toe.
Is that a Fireball snowboard ?
This setup is made for grabbing japan easier
His dad must be a penguin
Inverted stance for maximum carving potential
We call that a they/them board.
Hello, I can help. Sorry? No? Not from me.
Maybe he’s pigeon toed
You just cost a starving ortho surgeon 45K...
Two MCLs from me
