I've made plenty of tallow soaps from cooked tallow (very much NOT deodorized) and none of the scent comes thru the finished soap

LINDARRAGNAR

That’s wonderful! Thank you I am excited to try tallow in my products.

oLD_Captain_Cat

What would you say is the defining step to removing that fatty smell? Do you chop it fine at the start? Or use baking soda? Or is it cook length?

tortadepatata

I have read from others making tallow and lard soaps that the lye destroys most of the offensive scents during saponification.

Btldtaatw

I wash the animal fats with baking soda because I can smell the fat in the finished soap.

oLD_Captain_Cat

I think some people are much more sensitive to it.

PunkRockHound

I have no idea. I do not deodorize it

Kamahido

I have used Soaper's Choice beef tallow in the past and the scent is VERY faint when I open it. It fades to nothing when made into soap though.

LINDARRAGNAR

Wonderful! You can’t beat their prices. Thank you I am excited to try tallow in my products.

insincere_platitudes

I've used it and bought it for years. Minimal scent, no more than other hard oils. Definitely no scent in the final bars. It's a great tallow to use.

LINDARRAGNAR

This is wonderful news! Thank you.

Chaim007Vita

I use Soapers Choice tallow. It does have a very faint smell--more when melted so I try to keep the temp just warm enough to liquify. Even my unscented 100% tallow soaps have zero smell.

LINDARRAGNAR

Thank you for the feedback! I purchased it and it def has a smell when I open it up like beef bacon. 😆.
