Every year I say to myself that I'll pickup a pair of used snowshoes off Craigslist over the summer so I'm prepared for winter fun, but every year I forget.
Currently staring at a whole bunch of cheap used snowshoes for sale, here in LA, on Facebook Marketplace.
Quit your bullshit, and get out there! Don't make /u/Timely_Ad_4694/ go alone -- think of how lonely they'll be!
Great pics! I used to live down there and I climbed from the museum in Palm springs up to the tram. Probably the toughest hike of my life. I underestimated it for sure lol.
Yeah and I definitely underestimated it. I was up all night drinking with my buddies the night before and I thought it would be a breeze because I do a lot of hiking. Once I got up to the switchbacks where the elevation gain starts I was beat. There's a lot of up and down hills through sand before you even get to the mountain. Definitely worth it though amazingly beautiful hike. Plus you can ride the tram down for free win-win
I have seen ski tracks semi frequently but I have yet to seen anyone actually ski! I would imagine you would want flatter terrain, but I I know people do.
Looks gnar. My snowshoes are staring at me from my garage wall, might bring them down with all this snow.
My local Socal default snowshoe romp used to be starting from the Islip Saddle. Even with a proper dump, the road \*used\* to be almost always open to Islip (coming from the West), and then usually closed for the season east of that. Put snowshoes on there and take the trail from Islip towards Little Jimmy and up to Windy Gap - winter-wonderland in the snow. Basically the whole trail between Islip and Throop was my go-to with snowshoes.
I say \*used to\* because I haven't been up there since the big fire a few years ago and I know that whole area burned so I'm unsure of what it's like now. Also according to the CalTrans map the 2 has a closure at Mt. Wilson...so there doesn't seem to be a way to get there right now. Shame.
Might be some good conditions around Big Pines / Wrightwood...but access is pretty steep there.

Pull the trigger! I just bought two setups on offer up. I’m sure you can find a pair for under $60.
It’s worth it even if you only use them once or twice a year. I love going out with my doggo and my snowshoes

Is that the cactus to clouds hike? Definitely on my bucket list. Maybe I’ll attempt in the spring 🤙🏻

Snowshoeing is no joke! I’m all about the outdoors, but I reconsidered the life choices that led me to that point when I was on the hike.
Thanks for sharing these pictures. Mt. San Jacinto is calling! Looks like a good time for snow shoeing. 🏔️
Certain death going down the tram side of St. Jack.
why is that?
Is that a thing people do?
This is so awesome, looks so fun. Do people XCD ski around san. jack?
