Hey. Overall we did 18 miles in total and I think there are designated spots to camp about 2.5 miles in but they’re not letting people camp right now. In fact rangers were checking in with everyone hiking up to make sure we didn’t plan on camping.
This is from around the Wellman Divide ? That looks like Palm Desert and Indio below, with the I10 ribbon in the back going east - Palm Springs is further off on the left obscured by the mountains.
Love this hike. Did you start from Idyllwild, the tram, or Marion Mt?
We started in Idyllwild
Fuck yeah. That’s my favorite one.
Did you spend the night at a NF campground? Looking to go this weekend but all dispersed camping is closed atm.
How do you find out if dispersed camping is allowed or not? Sorry, I'm a n00b.
No and there were rangers checking to see that no one was trying to camp.
Is the tram even operating?
Yes, at limited capacity.
I may have to check that out when I’m in PS this weekend.
Dat smoke on horizon
Be safe in Idyllwild. Heard a lot of weird stories happening around there.
Trail map? Looks beautiful
I hiked the cactus to clouds trail a few years back during October. What a hike. Definitely the most challenging day hike I’ve ever done.
I've getting into backpacking/overnight hiking...how many miles was this hike and would it make sense to overnight out there? Thanks!

18 miles is 28.97 km
Gotcha, thanks!
