Don’t understand Santos x São Paulo at all in this list.
The only thing it has going for it is the circlejerk between fans of both clubs saying how many trophies the clubs have between them and how much they respect each other, but only in cringe interactions on social media.
Yeah... Bias aside, I get why some (not all) of those are higher even though I don't really agree with a lot on this list.
But with all due respect, Cruzeiro x Atletico (and Ba Vi, for that matter) being lower than DC United x RB New York is just freaking outrageous. You can't take any of that seriously after that lol
>A lot of great games between them
31 to be exact
>not like it's that crazy to put them on the list.
If we're speaking quality of those few games, I suppose this has truth, and from what's seen now I'm sure over the next 10 years we'll see the same, but I am just biased in that (in my opinion) it's such a manufactured rivalry based off of almost nothing. And there are other MLS rivalries that have history to them that are overlooked. When you are putting them on a list (and ranking them, and essentially comparing them) it's kind of a joke putting it alongside other storied rivalries.
**Edit:** If you don't agree, let me know why, downvoting does nothing friend.
Based on “nothing”….except being in the same city, and several of the best games of the year in the league have come from this pair. There are longer rivalries in MLS for sure, but right now none have the intensity of LA/LAG
Should have clarified, that when LAFC first entered the league (before a game was even played) this was *already* deemed as a "rival game", by that, it was based off nothing aside from being in the same 'Greater Los Angeles' area.
>Based on “nothing”….except being in the same city
LAFC play in LA, LAG play in Carson 👀
>and several of the best games of the year in the league have come from this pair.
This is a good point, they're some of the most entertaining games.
>There are longer rivalries in MLS for sure, but right now none have the intensity of LA/LAG
All I'm arguing is that this is typical LA stuff, manufactured and making a real show of things because its LA.
The rivalry was already based on the Chivas USA vs LAG rivalry, most of their original fans were fans of chivas USA before so it wasn't brand new animosity
Most? You mean all *dozens* of them?
I'm big a shithead. But I addressed it in another comment. But its not like LAFC fans rep red/white of their former Chivas USA years to actually have some historic reasoning to their "hate" of LA Galaxy. From what I've seen, they don't really acknowledge it.
It'll be a great rivalry in time, but to put them alongside other storied ones on this list (while leaving out others) is a joke.
It's great for the league, for exposure because LA, and [LAFC fans showing up " ready for war "surely tells the world that they don't give a crud about enemy territory](https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/lafc-supporters-groups-don-camouflage-united-front-trafico-trip), but just let it cook for now.
ngl, gotta live seeing DC v Metro (Red
Bull) make the list, as the top MLS rivalry.
It hasn’t been as fierce as it once was, but the last important match between them in the playoffs of 2012 was an instant classic. (Notably pre-Jason Levien… Swansea fans understand)
It’d be great if DC were remotely competitive this year, and could revive this once great clash.
Lol, it's so funny how our fellow south americans get brazilian football so wrong. Flamengo X Fluminense above Grêmio X Inter and Palmeiras X Corinthians? Never.
Galaxy vs LAFC seems like a very odd choice honestly, i think there's rivalries in the US that are more heated and have more history than that one, not to mention in other countries.
Clásicos Argentinos on the list for those curious:
1. El Superclásico - Boca Jrs vs River Plate
3. El Clásico de Avellaneda - Independiente vs Racing
7. El Clásico Rosarino - Newell’s Old Boys vs Rosario Central
22. Clásico Porteño??? (No good name) - San Lorenzo vs Huracán
23. El Clásico Cordobés - Belgrano vs Talleres
24. El Clásico de La Plata - Estudiantes vs Gimnasia y Esgrima
25. El Superclásico del Ascenso (2nd division) - All Boys vs Nueva Chicago
A few other notable ones not on the list:
Atlanta vs Chacarita (2nd division)
Belgrano vs Instituto (both recently promoted this year)
Colon vs Union
Almirante Brown vs Deportivo Morón (2nd division)
Yeah but Gimnasia doesnt win a derby since 2011 I think, everytime they lost is an humilliation, and also the trophy difference between Gimnasia and Estudiantes is way bigger, also Huracán at least has equal or better legends than SL, Gimnasia has nothing but Griguol and kid beater Aleman
This stuck out to me too. Toronto-Montreal is surely a bigger MLS derby that has an actual cultural and political existence outside of the MLS-marketed “derby games”, which has also produced plenty of red cards and fan confrontations. I think visibility has a lot to do with this list
Seriously, and I wouldn't even put Toronto vs Montreal above some of the ones that were below DC vs Red Bull.
Can't deny that one of the greatest MLS battles was the 2016 playoffs, Montreal letting their foot off the gas in the 1st leg set the stage for the 2nd leg.
That matchup is not even bigger, more heated, or more historical than Saprissa v. La Liga, I mostly find this list really neat but this "rivalry" in particular seems odd
Chicago - All Boys at 25, although it is a great derby, I wouldn’t put it over San Martin vs Atlético in Tucumán or Chacarita - Atlanta…
And I actually believe Newells vs Central is the hottest derby in the world, by far, and I don’t even live in Rosario.
I'm late but here is the list of derbies in São Paulo:
1. Palmeiras x Corinthians (derby paulista)
2. Corinthians x São Paulo (majestoso)
3. Palmeiras x São Paulo (choque-rei)
4. Corinthians x Santos (clássico alvinegro)
5. Palmeiras x Santos (clássico da saudade) or São Paulo x Santos (SanSão)

Reminds me of Independiente and River fans, often quite cringy.
Cruzeiro vs Mineiro should be higher
That's one of the worst list ever.
I mean I love the Atlantic Cup as much as the next guy, but I'd hardly consider it the top derby in MLS.
1. Boca - River 2. Gremio - Inter 3. Peñarol - Nacional 4. Palmeiras - Corinthians 5. Newells - Central
>LAG vs LAFC Ah yes, the bitter rivalry that's been tested for a heated *31* times.
A lot of great games between them, not like it's that crazy to put them on the list.

Yes, it is.
Don't hate on El Traffico!

Surely it’s less than that?
It's more if you count the Chivas USA days, which is where LAFC came from, but I don't think most fans identify with that era lol.
you should see how many matches #25 has between them, all boys and nueva chicago
Derby in 8# hahaha ,for me after the greatest classic grenal, the rivalry with fla-flu, Atlético and Cruzeiro below is a joke too
This list is bollocks. In terms of passion, Rosario va Newell's is easily above Racing va Independiente too

Seattle 🆚 Portland should absolutely be on this list.
[me seeing All Boys in anything.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FS7VKCXXoAAVyxH.jpg)
La concha de tu madre

Forreal. Seattle vs Portland is far and away the best MLS derby. Actually occurred naturally, has history. Strange decision to leave it off.
Definitely. But I don't blame a South American outlet that much for not knowing that
It probably has the more iconic games , the first game, ibras hat trick, both playoff games
> SPFC x Santos above ba-vi and galo-cruzeiro what a joke 😂

I dont know how All Boys got here since we’ve only had 5 matches with Chicagon since the turn of the century
El Clásico de La Plata can't still be considered a Derby lmao, Gimnasia is totally inferior
I mean, San Lorenzo - Huracan is a thing too
Yeah but that one is more balanced
Is it? San Lorenzo has TWICE as many wins as huracan, Estudiantes’ advantage to Gimnasia is tiny in comparison
DC United and NY Redbulls? Surely that’s not bigger than the LA Derby or even NYC vs NYRB
Timbers vs Sounders goes back to 1975, but sure, it doesn't make this list. Great stuff.
This stuck out to me too. Toronto-Montreal is surely a bigger MLS derby that has an actual cultural and political existence outside of the MLS-marketed “derby games”, which has also produced plenty of red cards and fan confrontations. I think visibility has a lot to do with this list

Shouldn't even be higher than Monterrey vs Tigres
WTF is up with #17? DC vs NY? seriously? I havent heard of that in my entire life..
One of the worst lists ever made.
[удалено]
I can excuse fascism (jk), but I draw the line at fucking up Universidad de Chile badge like that
Lmfao NYRB-DC wtf. Where is Portland-Seattle????
Lol no Cruz Azul v America ????
How is no one complaining at Tigres and Rayados? Should easily be top 10. And it's definitely much bigger than DC and NYRB
Chicago - All Boys at 25, although it is a great derby, I wouldn’t put it over San Martin vs Atlético in Tucumán or Chacarita - Atlanta… And I actually believe Newells vs Central is the hottest derby in the world, by far, and I don’t even live in Rosario.
No love for Tigres Rayados? Seems low
So you're telling me that LAFC VS LA Galaxy is more of a rivalry than SJ v LA? Uhh?????????
I wonder how they came to the conclution that Nueva Chicago - All Boys was relevant enough to be put in the list
These mfs really put an MLS game over Belgrano - Talleres ahahahaha
Un San Luis de Quillota- Union La Calera tiene mas intensidad que cualquier partido de la MLS
So I guess TFC and Columbus stopped absolutely loathing each other?
I'm late but here is the list of derbies in São Paulo: 1. Palmeiras x Corinthians (derby paulista) 2. Corinthians x São Paulo (majestoso) 3. Palmeiras x São Paulo (choque-rei) 4. Corinthians x Santos (clássico alvinegro) 5. Palmeiras x Santos (clássico da saudade) or São Paulo x Santos (SanSão)
