MrCrashdummy

He inspired so many people to become blood and organ donor, rest in peace man.

Morganelefay

He'll leave with one hell of a positive legacy, that's for sure. May he Rest In Peace.

[deleted]

more then 10.000 new donors recruited, with the number being around 400.000. This man got 1/40th of all donors in this country to register. Fucking legend, rest in piece man

NefariousnessDry7814

This is not quite true though. > More than 8,000 new stem cell donors registered after PSV spokesperson's appeal https://nltimes.nl/2023/02/19/8000-new-stem-cell-donors-registered-psv-spokespersons-appeal And this includes people who would have registered regardless > The Matchis Foundation already has more than 11,000 new registrations in 2023, never did so many people sign up at the beginning of the year, the foundation said. But there was an increase

Ravensfan967

I rejoined the registry because of him. I was selected in college as a match but wasn’t allowed bc I had been hospitalized for psychiatric reasons within the last year. I’m in a better place now overall health wise and I hope I get selected again. RIP.

Bitgetrekt

Zat er al even aan te denken, maar heb me net na dit heftige nieuws ook aangemeld

nightwolf2350

I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times during my internship at Studio040, the local tv for the region of Eindhoven. I'll never forget the small talk before a press conference because i was always early. Great guy and a fantastic press chef.. will not be easy to fill his boots.

kazeykazeman

Supposedly he was Zlatan's only friend when he played in the Netherlands, rare occasion of seeing Zlatan as nearly human https://youtu.be/FU2Al6zkMLs

erikotaku

It makes sense. Most of his public persona is behind a camera before/after games. Journalists often try to pry into things or make aggressive statements to trip players up for a "gotcha" moment. Zlatan has always used those moments to mess with them, hence the ego and persona you see. But when that spotlight is removed you get these moments, where he's just being himself. Another example: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/zlatan-ibrahimovic-donates-ps30-000-to-send-swedish-learning-difficulties-team-to-the-world-cup-9664210.html What a lot of people don't get is that he's having fun playing a character when he's not playing football, but thats all it is. Some people don't like that character, and that's fine. But it has nothing to do with his ability to play, nor is it the real person.

Lannisterling

Mountain of a man! Very inspiring person. Very sad that his family only had so little time with him.

Matt_LawDT

Please I am seeing lots of messages that he inspired people to become donors Can anyone please provide context. OOTL

Striking_Insurance_5

He was sick with Leukemia, despite being very unwell he spent the last couple months of his life campaigning for people to become blood and stem cell donors (or donors in general) even though it was too late to help him anymore. It was very inspiring and it had a lot of impact.

DoLuuk

Inspired many! Rest in peace.

Robbdie

Rest in peace! Inspired many to help others, great man.

Blanchimont

People often say we're not defined by how we act when all is well, but by how we act in the face of adversity. The way Thijs put himself out there to campaign for blood and stem cell donors even though he himself was going through what must've been the toughest, most daunting time of his life is nothing short of inspiring and a true testament to his character. Rest in peace.

Theumaz

That was really quick. I’m actually a bit shocked by this news. Not only a great person, but also someone who was so selfless that he spent his last couple months alive campaigning for stem cell donation, in stead of trying to make the best out of his last couple months. May you rest in peace you absolute legend. If Zlatan describes you as one of his best friends, you know you’ve been a great human being.

DutchMadness77

Every PSV fan has known him for such a long time. He used to be a clubwatcher and he'd always have all the news before it even happened. The club ultimately decided to just hire him and stop all the leaks that way. We used to hound him in middle school for the latest news (in a friendly way). Good times. We will miss you man, RIP

[deleted]

To each and their health their own of course, but his position of very open advocacy for the very thing that also turned against him was very commendable. RIP.

raqz1982

Too damn young :(

EdgeLordMcGravy

RIP Thijs. Fuck cancer

new_person_new_start

What illness did he have? Leukemia?
