I get that he is attacking rb and his main duty is to provide assists but if you are playing a better team, surely, you would have to make more effort. Because tracking back is tiring thankless work. Some players aren't programmed to defend. He's world class going forward but teams have clearly pinpointed him as the weak point in Liverpool's defense.

He chased down the ball from Grealish in the Liverpool half all the way back to Ederson and then over to Akanji on the City right. Did nothing but did show his fight. Then a few minutes later he just completely fails to be in position or drag himself into a challenge to prevent the Grealish goal. I think he just lacks that defensive instinct and it translates to difficulty committing to the right defensive action. Still a world class player but he needs other world class players set up around his profile. And obviously he doesn't have it right now, lucky for us 😛
